Fix for getting track names from GraceNote.

Finally found a Windows fix for getting iTunes to get track names from GraceNote (see below). It works!!!
Fixing iTunes CDDB lookup - more details
Since Apple’s forums don’t seem to support permalinks, the hint I previously posted about fixing iTunes for Windows’ connection to CDDB isn’t complete. Here’s how to reestablish connection to CDDB if your track lookups start failing:
Quit iTunes for Windows.
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools | Internet Options, click on the Connections tab, and click on the LAN Settings button.
In the dialog that follows, uncheck the checkbox about using a proxy. Hit OK, then OK again.
Open RegEdit and look for the following key: HKEYLOCALUSER\Software\CDDB\Control\2.0. Delete this key.
Open iTunes and insert the CD. iTunes should now be able to connect to CDDB again—at least, until it forgets again later...
If necessary, reenable your proxy settings.

I followed this exactly and it didn't work!
When I put in a CD and click on Get CD Track Names the "Accessing Gracenote CDDB" box flashes up and then disappears and nothing happens!
Any suggestions???

  • HELP!! Trying to get track names from bought CDs

When I click on Advanced, Get Track Names it gives the the error: CDDB error. HTTP Processing error. It does this with all of my CDs. Can anyone please help?

Are you definitly connected to the internet whilst you try to obtain track names?

  • Replace track names from gracenote

Is there a way to query Gracenote Database if the first set of Track names are incorrect?
Looks like Gracenote no longer offers its web lookup service.
Anybody know of another site that provides track information?
    Thanks!

If more than one entry is found for the CD (which can occur if more than one person submitted information for the same CD to the Gracenote service), select one of the entries. If it isn’t correct, choose Advanced > Get CD Track Names again and choose the other entry.

  • Getting track names for already transferred CDs

Had 1 to 1 session, technician explained how to get track names from Cds already transferred to MacBook pro. Can't recall procedure, is there a "walk thru" demo out there?

Yes, it did help, appreciate the hint re: right click! When I was at Apple Store, had my macally compact mouse which has right click capability. The mouse I use at home, or should say used to use, was not a right click device. I have purchased a wireles right click mouse, problem solved!  So long as we're on the subject, I understand there is a way to have right click function with trackpad on MacBook pro, and chance you can explain that to me??  Thanks Much!

  • Bogus audio track names from audiobook

I just downloaded and installed version 7.4.3.1. I recently purchased an audiobook and attempted to load itonto the Ipod ( which I have had no previous problems doing ). When Itunes recognizes the CD it appears in my devices screen with bogus information for the CD name, the author and I always now see 99 tracks with names of songs in my library. Is this a new bug??

As far as I know, you can only generate track names on CD's from Gracenote if the order, the amount of tracks and the time per track on your CD is correct (= original).
So, if you have complete albums, and you are able to 'reconstruct' them as described above (same tracks in same order as on the original CD), than burn a CD from this. Mount this CD in iTunes, and let it search in Gracenote; if you did a good job, you will receive your track names. You can now re-import your tracks to iTunes.
But, when the albums that are incomplete or when you don't want to spoil all this empty CD's, I think you'll have to retype all your track names. Maybe you can look for the track names on Gracenote or amazon and copy-paste this.
One good thing : if you have converted your AAC's to AIFF's (that's how I understand it), you did get rid of the protection and you will be able to burn as many CD's from this songs as you want

  • I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

I'm getting this error message: "User not registered for online use" when i'm trying to download music/ track names from a CD into ITunes on my Windows 8 PC.  I'm registered and my itunes account/ appleID are all correct and working.

The ""not recognized for on-line use". error is associated with the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to look up and retrieve metadata for CDs.  Some users have reported that this error occurs when trying to import from CD, subsequent to upgrading to version 12.  A number of slightly different solutions have been reported (though all of a similar nature).
Try walking through the following steps - before starting you may have to enable hidden files and folders to be viewed - in Windows 7 / Windows Explorer select Organize > Folder and search options, then on the View tab make sure that Show hidden files, folders and drives is selected.  Without this you won't see the AppData folder in C:\Users\username\
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
    If this doesn't work:
In iTunes, select Edit > Preferences and make a note (or take a screenshot) of your preferences settings in all relevant tabs
    Exit iTunes
In Windows Explorer, go to the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Delete the following file:iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If this second procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1.
    If this one didn't work:
    Exit iTunes
    Check the following folders:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete any copies of the following files:
    CD Info.cidb
    com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist
    iTunesPrefs.xml
    Restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
Again, if this procedure does work, you'll need to restore other iTunes preferences settings to those that you noted in step 1 of the second procedure. If you're still not able to retrieve CD info:
    Exit iTunes
In Windows, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.  Find the entry for iTunes, right-click and select Repair.
When this process has finished, restart iTunes
Insert a CD and see if details are now correctly retrieved from Gracenote
If none of these have worked (and almost everything I've seen suggests you should be OK by this point), you may have an issue with the installation and configuration of iTunes itself.  If you have got this far, see turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for advice on how to remove and replace of all components of iTunes.

  • ITunes import no track names from CD import, how do I get iTunes to recongnise that iTunes was used originally for the import?

The following message keeps appearing "iTunes cannot get  CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes.  To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes."  I did originally use iTunes to do the original import.  I do not have the original CDs anymore as I have shifted house.  How do I get iTunes to recognise that the import was done using iTunes?  Please help.

    StepForward wrote:
No they were labelled Track 1, Track 2 etc.. when I originally did the import.  But I put that down to the fact that I was staying at a friends house who had no internet so it didn't go off and get the titles automatically as per usual.  I just figured I would be able to correct it later when I had a bit more time and had set up my internet.  Moving house is rather disruptive so there has been a time hiatus of a couple of weeks inbetween original import and now me trying to correct it.
    StepForward,
Yes, that is normally the function of the Advanced > Get Track Names function.  It can get track names even without the CD present, by querying CDDB based on its "memory" of the CD.  (I just tried this, so I have to disagree with my friend Fiend.)
It is possible that your CDInfo.CIDB file is messed up.  It is also possible that CDDB does not recognize the CD, so even with Internet all you get is Track 01, etc.
Unless you are talking about mucho CDs where this happened, you may just want to manually edit the track names.

  • ITunes 11.4.0.18 will not get track names for imported mp3 albums.

I'm new to Apple (Windows 7 i7 Sandy Bridge processor 16GB ram) and recently got an iPod touch 5g 64GB and I am trying to figure out iTunes.  I have GB's of albums that I have collected over the years in mp3 format.  When I imported them to iTunes via...File>Add Folder to Library...It imported all of my albums, but, almost NONE of the tracks are in order and they are "scattered" for lack of a better word.  Some are with the albums they are supposed to be with, but MOST made their own names and albums.  Getting the tracks with the albums I fixed by doing it manually.  Getting the tracks in order in the albums...HELP.  I tried to "Get Track Names", but iTunes comes back with "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes.  To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes."????  I'm assuming that iTunes will only get the track names if they are imported from CD only and not mp3?  If I have to manually enter all of the information in myself....God help me...just leave it unorganized???

When iTunes imports a CD it records the information used to look up the album in the Gracenotes database. When you add your tracks into a different library that data is no longer available. See Grouping tracks into albums for some tips on organizing iTunes content.

  • I keep getting ' user not register for online ' when trying to get track names for my CD imports for Windows 7

I keep getting ' user not register for online ' when trying to get track names for my CD imports for Windows 7 and I'm unable to find a solution.

I can't be certain exactly which steps are going to be needed in each case, but if you work through this in sequence hopefully one of the steps will prove effective.
    First try this:
    With iTunes closed.
    Press the WinLogoKey+R
Type in %appdata% and press return
    Double click on Apple Computer
    Double click on iTunes
    Delete the file CD Info.cidb
    Start iTunes and try again.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and try deleting com.apple.iTunes.Gracenote.plist in the same folder.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and try deleting iTunesPrefs.xml. This will reset your some of your preferences in iTunes so be sure to check them and reset as required.
If that still hasn't resolved things close iTunes and try deleting the entire %appdata%\Apple Computer folder or look for parallel files/folders in the C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local or C:\Users\<User>\AppData\LocalLow in case a corrupt file is persisting there.
Note that any iOS device backups are stored in the MobileSync folder within Apple Computer. Once things are working you should backup your devices again as soon as possible.
Or it might not be the preference files after all...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Unable to get track names for new album itunes 11.1.5

    Hi All,
I have 2 computers running Mavericks
Both have the same version iTunes 11.1.5
On some imported albums I have not got the track names.
On one computer I can right click on the track and 'Get Track Names'+'Get album artworks' and it works, but on the other I do this and it does not.
Any thoughts on why one computer can do this and the other does not?
Both are connected to the internet and can connect to the itunes store.
    Cheers
    Simon

It may simply be that the CD you are trying to import is not in the CD track name database.

  • After downloading the latest version of iTunes, I cannot get track names to appear when burning a cd from my playlists.  Any ideas, please??????

What gives?  I cannot get track names to appear on recently burned cd's. Just downloaded latest version of iTunes.  I'm at a total loss.  Have Googled- tried several things to no avail.

Go to the iTunes folder (it is in Music folder) and do this:
    1. Back up your music
    2. Delete "iTunes Library.itl". Then, open iTunes again and it should work

  • "Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet" not working

I'm about to begin re-ripping all my CDs (400+) which I haven't done since at least 14yrs ago in order to take advantage on newer/better formats. I was excited to see that iTunes can automate a lot of this process with the following two options:
    - When you insert a CD: (Import CD and Eject)
    - [ ] Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet
Found in the "Playback" settings of iTunes 10.1.1
However after inserting my first CD, I noticed it started to import without downloading the track names first. Obtaining track names manually is working for me because if I choose "Advanced -> Get track names" it accesses Gracenote DB and works fine.
It's just the automatic operation after inserting a CD that is not working. This causes me to have to:
    1) Insert CD
    2) Choose "Advanced -> Get track names"
    3) Click "Import CD"
    4) Eject
as opposed to the one supposedly promised step of "Insert CD" and have the other 3 things happen automatically.
I've tried deleting my iTunes plists in my ~/Library/Preferences/ folder but it still works the same.
    Any suggestions?

You can seach the Gracenote site directly. I don't know if that would help you decide which option you needed to use.

  • Itunes doesnt grab the track names from Cd's

It used to, but iTunes no longer gets the track names from a CD when I attemp to import. It recognizes the CD name, but not the individual songs. They show as "Track 01", "Track 02", etc... I then try to get "get track names for CD's" through iTunes and it says, "unable to connect to the CDDB server".
    any help?

iTunes actually does not get the track names from the CDs themselves. iTunes instead connects through the Internet to the Gracenote CDDB server and gets the album and track information from there. So when you import a CD, your system needs to be connected to the Internet. If it's not, that's your problem.
If it is connected to the Internet, check your firewall(s) to make sure that that the CDDB site (gracenote.com, at least) is allowed in the firewall settings.
For more information, look for "gracenote" or "CDDB" in the iTunes Help.
    Hope this helps.
