Fix mounted image permissions bug by enabling permissions (!)

I wanted to share a permissions bug workaround on a mounted image -- just because it's a counter-intuitive technique and it could have other applications.
I wanted to share a mounted encrypted disk image between two users. Whatever I did, however, only the first user to mount the image could create new documents on it. Both users could edit existing documents and both users could create folders (but not files). If the second user tried to create a document they got this error message:
The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items.
Since both users had permissions on both the image file and the mounted image/drive - this error message was clearly wrong. It should be interpreted as "OS X has a permission problem of some kind but I don't know what it is. Good luck".
The fix was to disable 'ignore permissions' on the mounted drive/image. (Default setting is to 'ignore permissons').
With permissions enabled both users can create files.

The repair disk permissions in Leopard is not hanging or frozen, it just takes longer to finish repair disk permissions than in Tiger. Here's more info on this one:

As for the merging and partitioning HD, I'm not certain if Boot Camp can create 3 partitions. So far I've only created 2. You can use the Disk Utility to create and merge multiple partitions but that will also erase the contents of the drive as well.

In IE <= 10, Safari, Chrome, and FireFox, the header section of that page stays put when scrolling. However, only in IE11, when you scroll the page the the header jumps around and jitters. Essentially IE11 will do this on any div with a fixed

Note the jitter does not happen if you grab the scrollbar with the cursor and move it up and down (which people rarely do). Some sort of bug when using mouse wheel has been introduced in IE11.

You are too late to see. He removed
background-attachment:fixed with IE11. His link originally showed the stuttering. It looked too unsatisfactory.
You can still see his handsome design with FireFox where it continues to work well. (And also good with Chrome, Opera, Safari too). See how the picture on top stays fixed when you scroll the page? Not with IE anymore. With IE
that great effect is removed, sacrificed to cure the ugly wart. The picture now just scrolls upward with the page to avoid the IE11 bug. Too bad.

Possibly somebody still hasn't yet noticed in bryanangler's example ("OP"), IE11 needs to be maximized (or large) to observe the problem. At least,
somebody has not acknowledged. Bryanangler's page is Responsive Web Design (RWD). The menu on top is present when space permits. That's when the
background-attachment:fixed applies and makes the horrid stutter.

Mounted NAS permissions

Hello,
I have a mac pro running lion server. At the moment we have a NAS drive that is mounted through the admin. I want all users on the server to be able to access the mounted NAS drive via the mounted path. At the moment however, other users cannot view the mounted directory and any attempt to access it throws a permissions error. I have tried changing the permission to read-write for all users but this does not appear to affect the mounted directory permissions at all, it still gives:
drwx------ 1 admin staff 16384
Does anyone know if there is a way to mount the drive and provide access to all users through the same path? I am using mount_smbfs by the way.

Update- I now try to mount the drive with > mount_smbfs -f 0777 -d 0777 //user:password@location/Public /Shared and while it changes 'Shared' dircetory to rwx for all, then it does not allow access from another users home directory.

Offline Servicing - Failed to Mount Image

I'm able to deploy an OS perfectly with OSD task sequences with the image I'm using. However when I attempt to inject the updates using the "Schedule Updates" method, I get the following error. Failed to mount the image on the system.
I opened SCCM console from the primary site itself just in case, I also retried with elevating permissions on the console.

returned code 0x80070005 = access denied.
If I can see it correctly you have imported the install.wim from the installation media, I haven't tried that actually.
What permission do the Primary Site server account have to the source media?
It must have at least Modify permissions, is that granted already?

Need help mounting images.

I've been trying to mount images, but I get an error that says "device is not configured". How can I fix this?

10.8 Server - share mounted image

Sharing a mounted image file like sparse bundle over AFP was not a problem in 10.6.x or 10.7.x.
On 10.8.x Server the mounted image files are not available over AFP anymore only via CIFS/SMB.
In 'File Sharing' section of Server.app the mounted image seems like being shared and I couldn't find any error in log.
But when a client machine tries to connect over AFP this share point is not available, only over CIFS/SMB.
I've found a workaround, but unfortunately it's not working:

Inability to share mounted images over AFP is an issue with 10.8 and 10.8 Server too.
Anyone with a fix?

Fix to 3 unrelated bugs.
- Auto-fading logic was clobbering the state-specified value of alpha in some situations (and the logic was way complex and fragile, so a refactoring was needed).
- Animation now handles sorting of Resize animations to be processed first in each frame, to improve some of the Resize/transform-effect interaction.
- Post-layout translation animations were being automatically created in some situations, ignoring any startDelays set on the real translation animations. The fix was to pick up the real translation animation info to pre-populate the post-layout animations.

Fixed mount points for USB disks via HAL

I've been trying to figure this out on my own but I've been able to achieve my goal.
I want to setup my system so that it auto-mounts a specific hard drive and makes its contents available at a specific file system location.
I'd love to do that by identifying my hard drives by UUID or ID and assigning each one a different mount point.
I've tried the approach described in the ArchWiki:

I restart HAL each time I change the configuration of the 20-$device_name.fdi or preferences.fdi (the second code example). Nothing at all can be found in /var/log/messages. It just silently refuses to mount the devices.
It works okay without these configurations and HAL auto-mount all these hard drives but only if I do not mess with the configs in /etc/hal/fdi/policy.
Can someone please explain what could be wrong here?

Yeah, that's the whole point - I want to have it done automatically with only one condition - fixed mount point names.

Safari image appearance bug

Hi all,
There is a image rendering bug when viewing images in this site:

Try to change the images backwards. It appear when smaller image is displayed first and then when you change to bigger one the bigger image borders are displaced. The bug disappear when you click next (or changing from bigger to smaller image) or when you move over some object (ex. notepad window) over the wrong displayed image.
I reported this bug in the safari, but there is no backlink or any number to track the issue, so I decided to write here - I want to check it regularly for solution.

Invalid checksum or cannot mount image errors with disk copy

I just upgraded my B/W G3 from OS9 to OS X.2 and only have Internet explorer 5.1 for Mac for internet browsing. I can't even access the Apple downloads page and alternate browsers download as .dmg files. When I click the download I am prompted to pick a location....(I tried to open the files directly through applications/disk copy and that option is grayed out; I can only save files to the desktop) so I saved the files to desktop and when I try to use disk copy to open them, I get either invalid checksum or cannot mount image errors. I am a brand new Mac user and understand this is not Windows and all and I understand the process of dragging the icon to the apps folder, but I can't get that far, I am getting these errors and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, the icon that appears on the desktop after the download is an image of a hard drive, but on a sheet of paper, not an image of a hard drive itself.
I think this has to do with the errors, but don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?

a few updates-corrections:
I am running OS 10.1 with the latest update being 10.1.5
I have upgraded the RAM to 896 mb with some memory chips I got from Ebay...worked like a charm!
The only browser I can get to install and run is Camino, which crashes sometimes but is way better than IE5 for Mac
The majority of downloads I find on the internet stil give me the cannot mount image error
I tried the firmware update but it wants OS9 installed....but I am pretty sure I ran that before I installed OS 10.1.....OS9 still exists on my hard drive, but is not accessable in 10.1
When I can get an image mounted, a lot of times the program loads in the dashboard, but immediately closes out
With all these issues, I am considering upgrading to OS 10.4 but am hesitant since I don't know if that is the core problem
This old Mac is really cool and a refreshing change from Windows and I don't want to give up on it, but I don't want to keep spending money on things that don't work.

ASC 3339 vector variable definition crashes asc
ASC 2932 const definitions in a for loop do not report error in strict mode
ASC 2843 [ArrayElementType] tag causing duplicate method definintions in ASDoc output
Flex checkintests, tamarin tests pass

2. I have been using Illustrator since vers 7 and am currently running CS4, CS5 and CS5.1 on the same machine with one hard drive and 8GB of Ram....and have NEVER experienced ANY of the glitches that you mention.
3.I believe you may have a conflict between your virtual memory settings in windows and your scratch disk settings for illustrator.
per Adobe... "For best performance, choose a hard drive not used for the Illustrator scratch disk." (this is in reference to setting your virtual memory on a Windows platform)

Fix mounted image permissions bug by enabling permissions (!)
