Fix the Multiband Compressor

I posted this on the General thread, but this is definitely a "bug" fix issue.
The Multiband Compressor (powered by Izotope) has a natural dip at around 1540Hz, meaning it EQs any waveform played through it.
As I test I bypassed every single band and the limiter.  All thresholds were at 0;  the gains were at 0;  the ratios were at 1.0:1.  The Brickwall Limiter was not checked.  The Master Output volume was at unity gain.  I generated 10 seconds of pink noise, then analyzed it via the Frequency Analyzer window.  That is the green trace in the attached picture.
Then I ran it through the Multiband compressor at the settings above.  That result is the red trace.  I even turned off the green ON button in the Multiband Compressor window, then hit the Okay button and it still came up with this result.
I'm running Audition 3.0.1.
This is definitely a bug and makes the plug-in absolutely useless.  Please fix this.

I deleted Compressor from Applications, erased the Trash and reinstalled Compressor. It works now. Thanks for reading and trying to help. Happy holidays. Duncan

  • How to restore Multiband Compressor?

All of a sudden, in the middle of an editing session [Audition CC 2014/Yosemite], Multiband Compressor stopped working. When I click on it, nothing happens. It doesn't crash Audition, as some have reported, but the effect just doesn't launch.
I searched this site and the web, no joy.
How do I restore this important tool?
I tried restarting, resetting PRAM/SMC...everything I can think of.
If I have to unin/reinstall, how do I make sure my Favorites, etc are saved first? I found files & folders in the /7.0 folder and copied them, but don't want to re-do everything.
    Thanks in advance.

If you have copied all the settings and files from 7.0 folder as a backup to somewhere safe you could try deleting the original 7.0 folder. If Audition doesn't find the folder when it is restarted it will re-create it with all the default settings. You can then try to see if that restores the Multiband Compressor effect.
If all is working correctly you can then re-import all your settings from the backed up folder.

  • Need help with voiceover multiband compressor setting

    Hi there,
I produce a national talk radio and TV program, and we often do voiceover for various commercials, spots, underwriting, etc. I've been running them through the "broadcast" preset in the multiband compressor, but have been told by a couple of people that it's too bassy and isn't sounding good on their end. While it sounds ok on my end, since this has been mentioned by several people, I'd like to change it.
Is there a better multiband compressor preset either already in audition or that someone could tell me how to create that would sound better for what i'm trying to do?Again, from the ones that are already in the multiband compressor, broadcast is the closest to what i want, but isn't quite it...
    Best,
    David

If the compressed sound itself is okay, then probably the easiest thing to do is to EQ the result, rather than play about with the compression. What you really need to do though is to get yourself a monitoring system that sounds the same as the one the clients are using!
Generally when people produce bass-heavy sound, it's because they are monitoring on something woefully small, with no real bass response. So you produce sound that sounds okay on your computer monitors, or whatever and inevitably the file sounds bass-heavy on a more neutral system.
None of us here could tell you what would be better settings, or what EQ to use, simply because we haven't heard any of the offending sound. If you post a sample, we could at least listen to it on a neutral system (I have 3!) and tell you what we think might improve it.

  • Audio export issue when using Multiband Compressor

I'm having an audio issue when exporting from Premiere Pro 5.5. I have a number of clips that I've used the Multiband Compressor on. Some audio clips are straight cuts with no gaps, some have a 3-frame cross fade. When playing back in Premiere everything sounds fine. When I export the sequence the audio drops out for about a frame in between each audio clip which contains the Multiband Compressor effect. This occurs no matter what codec used during export, and when only audio is exported.

I have the same problem. EXACTLY. I thought I became crazy, but not. What a pity, because Multiband Compressor is really impressive for a lot of situation, especially when there is voice.

  • Help for effects such as iZotope Multiband Compressor

I always fail to find what I'm looking for in the Adobe Help  - never seems to be what I'm looking for or it's very difficult to find - but that's another topic!
Anyone know where I can find help on the various audio effects - particularly the third party plugins such as the iZotope multiband compressor etc?
Specifically, I'd like info on the interface, what buttons do, general usage and then going deeper into how to use the effects for various jobs.
Surely Adobe has something on this?
    Cheers,
    Paul.

It's an Adobe supplied plug in - a standard part of Premiere, programmed by a 3rd party but integrated and supplied by Adobe. I would have expected Adobe to provide either their own documentation on it or a link to the 3rd parts docs if there are any.
I did have a look for the multiband compressor plugin on the iZotope web site but couldn't see anything relevant - maybe I missed it?

  • Can't get the C3 multiband compressor to work

I've got Garageband 3, a ChannelStrip demo version and Inspector plug-ins and I've just downloaded the C3 compressor and put it in hd/library/audio/plugins/components and it doesn't come up as an AU in Garageband. What am I doing wrong??? Help.

    Thank you Christoph.
About understanding the concept of compression, I am finding little info. Many online resources suggest starting with Apple's four presets, but when i look for info on what those presets mean, I find zero so far.
    YOU NOTED
And as for the presets of the compressor: They are just that - presets that are offered to you, but of course you can change every slider to your taste. Before you try your luck with the MultiBand, try to understand what a single compressor does (the AUDynamics processor or a third-party).
OK....but for me starting with those 4 presets might be easier than the more technical ones in the beginning since I will have a general idea if what they are supposed to do and can do. I also have a tough time with technical explanatins I have seem. I tend to be a bit "learnig disabled" with left brain things like math (failed it consistently in high school 35 year ago). But knowing why they called them "Fast and Smooth" "subcontrol" "analog" and "gentle" can help me understand if they apply to a certain desired music type, track versus mix, instrument, music genre. Once I userstand why Apple stuck them there and what the recordist is thinking when he or she choose them, it may be easier to get into it deep enough to be meaningful. I am an acoustic musician so am not sure how much some of the more esoteric settimgs might apply to me.
    CHRISTOPH'S COMMENTS
    Very clear!!!!
There's 3 ways your voice can go "into the red":
    - Clipping on recording. YES. "Manual compression!!!" That is what I do. The question proabbly arose because I submitted a song to someone who does mastering as a practice. I know genearlly why he had trouble. I recorded it on Garageband knowing even less than I do now. So I had reverb too high on the voice, and I mixed reverbed voice back into another track to add "texture". He, understandably, could not help as he could not separate the tracks. That is likely where the clipping or peaks created problems as I understand in my layman's terms. Now I know I need to get the basic tracks down better and to avoid overdoing it....
I attach his message to me with my comments at the bottom as it might help understand what is behind my confusion about compressors.
    - Clipping on the track's meter. You can turn down the volume of the track, but then you might sound too soft in other passages. That's when you want to use compression on that track only. Try the built-in compression slider, but the effect might be too subtle. Use the AUDynamics control, the MultiBand is better suited for mastering the final mix.
---> So I understand I have to learn compression if I want to make judicious use of it, but still I am not sure what the terms mean---even the one with the four pre-sets. The mastering guy says he does not know APPLE's terms. His are below in the pasted part.....
    ---As for your other questions:
I never heard that adding reverb or delay will help bring out a voice.
Sorry, what I meant is what the mastering guy mentions below about the balance between the instruments and the voice. But then I guess my problem was the sound in the first place on each track being messed up with two much reverb. Nothing could fix that.
If interested, the song (in its original unmastered messed up form) is available in an MP3 format which might reveal the problems:
GO DOWN YOU BROKEN OLD SHELL OF A MAN
    http://www.soundclick.com/pro/view/01/default.cfm?bandID=538684&content=music
    (second song from top)
----What a compressor does is not primarily affecting the level of a track, but lowering the level of the peaks. It then has an overall volume slider which you can use to bring the level of the track up or down.
    I see....
This what the matering guy said--->
"First, the beginning and end of the song had significant noise issues with the guitar. In addition, the noise wasn't "constant". This causes problems when doing noise reduction from a specific noise sample, because you have to
use different settings for the noise reduction for different parts of the song. You also can't get noise samples from the middle of the song, so the noise reduction isn't as accurate. I ended up editing the song into different sections and using different types of noise reduction on each section. If I tried to "remove" the noise you lost too much ambience and
    the song sounded "dull".
----> THIS WAS MOST LIKELY THE RESULT OF JUST ADDING REVERB TO A COPY OF THE VOICE AND MUSIC TRACKS...PROBABLY I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON ABOUT OVERDOING IT.
    MOST IMPRTANT PART WAS HERE--->
"The relative levels of the music and vocal were off. The vocal was in general too loud, and needed/needs compression during mixing to control it. This will allow you to properly set the levels relative to each other.....
"I used a lot of different compressors and compression techniques in your song. I needed to control the vocal peaks without smothering them, and I wanted to avoid compressing the guitar parts so they wouldn't loose any volume. I also wanted to bring the guitar parts up in level (make them
louder). Unfortunately, all these compression techniques raise the noise floor, making the noise issues a lot worse.
I would suggest that you re-mix the song and:
    1. Compress the vocal so you can mix in with the other instruments better.
I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS.. IT WILL HELP THE OTHER INSTRUMENTS STAND OUT.
I will post the next part of his message in a new note so I can focus attention on the things he says.
    Thanks!

  • Audition CC crashes with Multiband Compressor

The company I work for just upgraded from CS6 to CC. I'm working on a 30 minute TV show, and my normal workflow for dialog editing includes using multiband compressor on almost every track. It works fine for the first track I apply it too, but Audition keeps crashing when I apply a multiband compressor to a second track. Here are the steps that specifically crash it.
Apply 30 Band EQ to both tracks (general high/low roll off).
Apply Multiband Compressor to track 1, choose Broadcast preset, adjust to voice.
Apply Multiband Compressor to track 2, choose Broadcast preset, hit space to play to adjust, then Audition crashes.
I've tried not using a preset and audition still crashes when I hit play. In writing this and testing some other things, I've noticed that it crashes with any instance of a compressor (singleband, tube modeled, etc.).
Here are the specs of the system I'm using.
    Mac Pro (the new one)
    OSX 10.9.3
    3 Ghz 8 Core Xeon E5
    32GB Ram
Editing off of a Raid-0 Thunderbolt Drive
I'm running the latest version of Audition CC
Does anyone know how to fix this or has run into the same issues?

We did receive reports from a few OS X users that saw a crash when opening some of the 3rd party effects we license for Audition.  The issue should be resolved in the latest 7.1 update release.  Are you running the latest version?  If so and you are still experiencing this issue, please send the crash report file to us using the following steps:
    After Audition crashes, launch Applications/Utilities/Console.app
Click "User Diagnostic Reports" and locate the most recent item for Audition
Drag this to an e-mail as a file attachment and send to [email protected]
While we certainly appreciate submitting the crash reports from the crash dialog, it is not a simple task to identify a specific report item, and we generally rely upon this to identify trends in crashing or to link to a specific user.  It's much quicker and more reliable to send us the file via the email address above.
    Thanks.

Compressor 4 crashes on opening keep getting this warning: The application “Compressor” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows.  Do you want to try to restore its windows again? Tried Restoring windows. It crashes again.  Tried not = Same result.  This is the first time I've actually used the app although I purchased it back in April (I think).  I had my first longform project completed in FCPX and tried sending it to Compressor 4 and got this result over and over again.

    Steve,
Sorry to say I've not had any success in getting Compressor 4 to work.  I've tried every suggestion mentioned earlier on this topic to no avail.  Compressor 4 is dead in the water.  On the last two projects I had to go back to Compressor 3.x.xx to complete the projects.  The only hint that I have of wha may have happened concerns something I did early on.  When I bought this computer I decided to replace the hard drive with a larger one.  Since I already had my software up and working on the drive that came with the computer I decided to clone everything to the new larger drive.  As I recall, Compressor 4 worked on the original drive but it doesn't work on this cloned version.  So maybe there is a relationship there.  I haven't had a chance yet to reinstall my old drive and see if C 4 works on it.  If it does work then I know the source of the problem but not how to fix it on the new drive.  Did you do anything like cloning your drive recently too?  It's just a thought and may not lead anywhere but later this week when I catch a break I'll give the old drive a try and will post my results.
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • "The Application Compressor quit unexpectedly"

I have recently upgraded from G5 to Mac Pro 2x2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2GB ram, OSX 10.4.9.
I tried to export my timeline from FCP 5.0.4 to Compressor and I get "The Application Compressor quit unexpectedly".
Every single time I try i will get the error. (I pretty much trasnfered the software from G5, and when I open the Final Cut Studio Pro software, I just put my serial number in)
I even tried to open Compressor without FCP open, and I also get the same error.
I looked through this forum and found someone says to delete compressor's preference file.
I looked in library and preference folder, and I just can't find compressor's p-file. I did delete FCP's p-file to see if it would work, but it didn't change anything.
Does anybody has same problem, and know the solution?
or can anyone tell me where else I should look for Compressor's p-file so that i can delete and see if it will fix my problem?
I'm not sure if it matters, but I also upgraded from Adobe CS2 to CS3 (design standard suits).

"I pretty much trasnfered the software from G5, and when I open the Final Cut Studio Pro software, I just put my serial number in"
Copying Pro apps to another machine is never a good thing.
What you will be missing are all the bit and pieces associated with these apps.
Some libraries, plugins and other obscure goodies are not going to be in place in the System folder.
Even if you knew what to copy, you would have to be logged in as "root" to add these.
Your better solution is to reinstall the full FCP suite.
    If that doesn't work?
The best solution is to bite the bullet, save any essential files to another drive, wipe your boot drive and start from scratch with a fresh install of OS X and everything else.
As for the Compressor pref file,
    com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist
    Look in your Home/Library/Preferences/

  • CrossOver on MultiBand Compressor~Logic

    Hi,
I'm now doing the experiment on Multiband Compressor(Multipressor of Logic Pro) on my Mastering Step.
My song is Pop Rock style.
    I'm wondering:
    1) How Many Band s'ld i use? 4 bands seems more tweak..
    2) What is the CrossOver? i know is up to engineer, but normally what is your setting?
    3) Is the Ratio & Threshold,Attact and Release setting/function as Dynamic Compressor?
    Thanks.

A multi-band compressor is a complicated audio tool. My recommendation is a simple one: do not use it if you don't know what you are doing with it(!). RTFM and articles on multi-band compressors that can be found with a google. Its purpose is to control dynamics in a very precise way. It is very much a tool for the engineer rather than the musician. You will never see a guitar player with one in his racks for eg. (unlike reverb, eq, "normal" compressor etc).
In simple terms a multi-band compressor is two or more compressors that operate on defined frequency bands. it allows you to compress just the treble without compressing anything else for eg.
In the "old days" you would have to build your own from various bits and pieces. You take the an audio line and split it into two identical lines, feed one into a low pass filter and one to a high pass filter. You'd now have one line that had audio from 0Hz to (say) 500Hz and another line from 500Hz to 20kHz. You would now feed these two lines to their own compressor. the outputs of these compressors would then be mixed together.
With this set-up you can apply different compression between 0-500Hz and 500-20kHz.
In practise the two filters would be usually one "box" where you would dial in what frequency you want the split to occur. Note that a similar thing is used in a loud speaker so that you only feed the bass frequencies to the woofer and treble to the tweeter. Its called a crossover box. The "crossover" is the frequency where sound crosses over from the bass to the treble. And of course you can have mid band filters too so you might have three or four crossover frequency settings between say bass to lower mid, lower mid to upper mid and upper mid to treble.
Using a "normal" compressor you can turn down the audio peaks. This means you can turn up the overall volume without the peaks distorting - it makes the end result sound louder. If you apply compression to only the bass region you can then turn this up a bit and the result is the track has a louder bass end.
mulit-band compressors can be thought of as "dynamic EQ" - or EQ that changes depending on what the sound is doing. Imagine you have your hand on the bass control of your hi-fi. When the bass player on the CD is playing quietly you turn up the bass control, but when he plays loud you turn it down a bit. This is just one job a multi-band compressor can do for you. In this case you'd just be using one band and one compressor, with the other in by-pass mode.
perhaps in the above example you'd also have your hand on the treble control too and every time the drummer hits his cymbals hard you turn down the treble a bit. You could use a dual-band compressor to do both bass and treble controlling.
    A more realistic eg...
You record a voice speaking from a script - a voice over. Normally you want all frequencies so you can hear a nice clear, rich voice, but every now and again a bus goes by the studio and you hear a horrible rumble. You could just use eq and filter out the low frequencies but this would make the voice sound thin so you only switch on the eq when the bus goes by - or you use a mutli-band compressor: you set the cross-over point to say 80Hz, by-pass the treble compressor and set the bass compressor to heavy compression so that any rumble gets turned down significantly. But in addition you decide you want to compress the voice to make it sound more radio friendly. Thats fine because you have a "spare compressor" - set the treble compressor for radio friendly speech. The two compressors are now doing quite different jobs: one is removing unwanted bass frequencies - but only when necessary, while the other is removing dynamic range to keep the voice nice, loud and full of presence.
In music mastering applications, compressors have their limitations. When a sudden loud bass note is struck for eg, a compressor would reduce the overall volume to reduce the musical peaks but you would hear (say) the hi-hats also reduce in volume and that might not be desirable. This is where the multi-band compressor comes in.
For most folk, a two or three band compressor is enough. controlling bass, mid and treble is typically enough but then there might be a time where you need four bands. Its like eq: sometimes you just want to warm up the bottom end so the other bands go unused, sometimes you find you need lots of bands to do various things.
The frequency at which sound "crosses over" from bass to mid or mid to treble is entirely dependent on what you want to do and what the sound is like.
The approach to using one can vary but the way I do it is very similar to using parametric eq. I identify the sound I need to affect by listening to the track. I then grab a band of eq, turn the gain up so I can here the region its treating and turn the frequency knob till I get to the region I am interested in. I then play with gain and Q till I get the desired result. There are bypass buttons under the meters on multipressor so start with just one band active. adjust the crossover freq's for this band till you are covering the region you want. Now play with compressor setings you feel are suitable (you really need to fully understand compressors for multi-band comps - attack/release/thresh/ratio settings should be second nature to you). The final important tweak should be adjusting the gain of the band.
Note, if you set all compressors to not have effect (ie ratio of 1:1) then you have a four band eq effect plugin to play with.
A multiband compressor has the effect of both compression and EQ but you cannot get the same effect from one compressor and an eq box. It is a useful tool for many things including getting your track to be as loud as possible while reducing the noticeable effect that comes from heavy compressing and limiting.
Do ~not~ see logic's multipressor as some sort of "make-things-sound-good" button. Its too sophisticated for that.
But I've written enough - I know I'm doing this to just avoid work that is waiting to be done

  • How do I Help Apple Care Stop Warring with Each Other and Fix the Problem with My iPhone that They Acknowledge Creating?

How Do I Help Apple US & Apple Europe Stop Warring With Each Other And Fix The Problem They Created?
    PROBLEM
Apple will not replace, as promised, the iPhone 5 (A1429 GSM model) that they gave me in London, UK, with an iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model).
    BACKGROUND
My iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model) was purchased this year in September on an existing Verizon Wireless (VZW) line using an upgrade. The purchase took place in California and the product was picked up using Apple Personal Pickup through the Cerritos Apple Retail Store. I will refer to this phone at my "original" phone.
The original phone was taken into the Apple Store Regent Street in London, England, UK on November 15, 2012. The reason for this visit was that my original phone's camera would not focus.
The Apple Store Regent Street verified there was a hardware problem but was unable to replace the part.
The Apple Store Regent Street had me call the US AppleCare. At first they denied support, but then a supervisor, name can be provided upon request, approved the replacement of my original phone with an iPhone 5 (A1429 GSM model) as a temporary solution until I got back in the US. And approved that the GSM model would be replaced with a CDMA model when I came back to the US. I will refer to the GSM model as the "replacement". They gave me the case number --------.
The Apple Store Regent Street gave me the replacement and took the original. The first replacement did not work for reasons I do not understand. They switched out the replacement several times until they got one that worked on the T-Mobile nano SIM card that I had purchased in England, UK. Please refer to the repair IDs below to track the progression of phones given to me at the Apple Store Regent Street:
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 15)
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 16)
    Repair ID ----------- (Nov 16)
The following case number was either created in the UK or France between November 15 to November 24. Case number -----------
On November 19, 2012, I went to France and purchased an Orange nano SIM card. The phone would not activate like the first two repair IDs above.
On November 24, 2012, I went to the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps. The Genius told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault. They had me call the AppleCare UK.
My issue was escalated to a tier 2 UK AppleCare agent. His contact information can be provided upon request. He gave me the case number -----------.
The UK tier 2 agent became upset when he heard that I was calling from France and that the France Apple Store or France AppleCare were not helping me. He told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault.
The UK tier 2 agent said he was working with engineers to resolve my problem and would call me back the next day on November 25, 2012.
While at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps, a Genius switched the phone given to from repair ID ----------- with a new one that worked with the French nano SIM card.
Also, while at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps, I initiated a call with AppleCare US to get assistance because it seems that AppleCare UK was more upset that France was not addressing the issue rather than helping me. I have email correspondance with the AppleCare US representative.
A Genius at the Apple Store Les Quatre Temps switched the replacement with a new GSM model that worked on the French SIM card but would not work if restored, received a software update, or had the SIM card changed. This is the same temporary solution I received from the Apple Store Regent Street in the UK.
By this point, I had spent between 12-14 hours in Apple Store or on the phone with an AppleCare representative.
Upon arriving in the US, I went to my local Apple Store Brea Mall to have the replacement switched with a CDMA model. They could not support me. He told me that my CDMA phone should not have been replaced with a GSM model in the UK and that this was clearly Apple's fault. My instructions were to call AppleCare US again.
My call with AppleCare US was escalated to a Senior Advisor, name can be provided upon request, and they gave me the case number -----------. After being on the phone with him for over an hour, his instructions were to call the Apple Store Regent Street and tell them to review my latest notes. They were to process a refund for a full retail priced iPhone 5 64BG black onto my credit card so that I could use that money to buy a new iPhone 5 64GB black at the Apple Store Brea Mall to reoslve the problem.
The Apple Store Regent Street did not process my refund. He, name can be provided upon request, told me that the AppleCare US did not do a good job reviewing my case, that they were incapable of getting to the bottom of it like they were, and instructed me to call AppleCare US and tell them to review this case number and this repair id. I asked if he read the notes from the AppleCare US Senior Advisor and he would not confirm nor deny. When I offered to give him the case number he accepted but it seemed like would do no good. Our call was disconnected. When I tried calling back the stores automated system was turned on and I could not get back through.
Now I have the full retail price of an iPhone 5 64GB black CDMA on my credit card and Apple will not process the refund as they said they would.
I've, at this point, spent between 14-16 hours at Apple Stores or on the phone with AppleCare representatives, and still do not have the problem resolved.
    SOLUTION
AppleCare US and AppleCare Europe need to resolve their internal family issues without further impacting their customers.
Apple is to process a refund to my credit card for the cost of a full retail priced iPhone 5 64GB black.
    DESIRED OUTCOMES
I have an iPhone 5 (A1429 CDMA model) that works in the US on VZW as it did before I received the replacement phone in the UK.
Apple covers the cost of the solution because I did not create the problem.
Apple resolves their internal issue without costing me more time, energy, or money.
This becomes a case study for AppleCare so that future customers are not impacted like I have been by their support system.
Does anyone have recommendations for me?
    Thank you!
    <Edited by Host>

Thanks, but I've been on the phone with AppleCare US (where I am and live) and AppleCare UK. They continue bouncing me back and forth without helping resolve the problem.
Perhaps someones knows how to further escalate the issue at Apple?

  • Is it possible to uninstall the latest kitkat update ("improvement")?  If not, how can I fix the problems it has created?

The latest kit kat "improvements" have made using my phone much more frustrating.  How can one roll back this operating system update to the previous version?  If it is not possible to roll it back, how do I fix the following issues?
    1) The battery timing has been greatly diminished.
    2) Gmail isn't syncing properly.   At least 7 times since the update, upon opening gmail, I see lists of messages that are sometimes over a year old, and not my current ones.
    3)  The sound slider bar on the open screen has disappeared.  It now takes 4 steps in order to get into settings, and temporarily turn off the sound.  That is ridiculous when entering a meeting.  Not to mention that you have to repeat those steps upon the meeting's end.
    4)  Searching for a particular contact in people has become more complicated--much easier to select "m" when looking for Mary's info than to have to scroll through the very JITTERY and  way too touch sensitive sidebar all the way to the "M's" to even begin to search through the M's.  This is way too unwieldy.

  • I am fed up with Spring and Apple passing me off to one another and neither will fix the problem. I am unable to receive a connection on my phone.

I am fed up with Spring and Apple passing me off to one another and neither will fix the problem. I am unable to receive a connection on my phone.
The internet goes out and I have to reset network setting each and every time. This is only a temporary solution which by the time I release the line with Spring or leave the apple store the issue is back. Sprint indicates that it is a know issue with the Iphone 5 and apple says it is a network issue as Sprint's network is not up to par with the Iphone and can not meet the expectations on the Iphone 5.
I have attached a few picture, as you can see it clearly says I have 5 bars and 3g available but I have no connections what so ever.
This issue affects all data and so I can not send or receive picture messages, use apps, or access the internet. The data goes in and out intermittently and it seems the phone chooses what I can and can't do.
For example I can watch Youtube or Vevo videos but I can not access Facebook or Instagram.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I will soon loose my patience....
I have reset my phone three time and have reset network and other setting mutltiple times.

  • FIX the long backups, not disable them. Solution is here!

NOTE: This process was performed on an iPod Touch 2.0.2 with iTunes 7.7.1.11 on a PC running Windows XP. The process is the same (or similar) for the iPhone.
+*My backups used to take 4 hours. Now they take just minutes, even with 40+ apps*+ installed including large apps like Texas Hold 'em, Brain Challenge, and Vay. No, I am not exaggerating. A fresh sync generally takes no more than 5 minutes from the time I plug my iPod in to the time I disconnect.
I do not guarantee this process will work for you. I can't do that. But it has worked for a lot of other people. This fix is an adaptation from geauxracerx's solution posted here. Read what others have said. I do not take credit for the solution, but I added in a few steps and gave a little more detailed info to fill in the blanks, fix problems and answer the questions I ran into when following geauxracerx's instructions.
Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.
This is how to fix the problem. *This is not a quick fix, but it is an effective fix. And it is a FIX, not a band aid.* Depending on how many apps you have installed, this can take several hours to complete. *You will also lose all game scores and any other data stored in your apps.* You will be starting fresh. It is an inconvenience, but in the end, you will be rewarded with quick, efficient backups, the way Apple intended. And you will never have to dread the
    iTunes backup again.
    The Process:
    1. Open iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and remove all previous backups. Also click "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods"
    2. In your system file structure, locate the backup files for iTunes.
    On Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    On a Mac: Users/YOURACCOUNT/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Delete ALL files and folders inside the Backup folder.
    3. Plug in iPod. On the Applications tab, uncheck sync apps. Click sync. This will remove all apps on your iPod, it will also backup the ipod. This backup will be very fast, and will recreate the backup folders you deleted in
    step 2.
    4. If there are any apps left on your ipod, touch and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle, then touch the X to delete the app. Delete all apps left on your ipod. Then sync again.
    5. After the sync is complete, disconnect the iPod and do a hard restart by holding down the sleep/power button until the slider appears, slide to power off. Wait 5 seconds and push the power button again and wait for the ipod to boot up.
    6. Now begin adding apps back to your ipod one by one. On the Applications tab, click "Sync applications" AND "Selected applications".
    7. Click one app and sync. After the sync is complete, right click on your ipod under Devices in the left column of iTunes. Click "Back Up" and allow the backup to complete.
    8. Repeat step 7 for each app you want to install. Be sure to backup after each install. As you add more and more apps, the backup will take longer and longer as the process scans apps for changes. An initial backup can also be long for a particularly large application. However, ONLY the initial backup after you install an app will take a long time. Subsequent backups are very quick. Even these "long" backups are just minutes long, sometimes up to 15 minutes in my experience.
    9. When you are finished installing and backing up all apps, go to Edit>Preferences>Syncing and enable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods.
    10. Unplug and plug your device back in just for kicks. Let it back up and sync. Better?
    Notes:
The very first time an application is backed up, all critical data is written to your hard drive. This is why the backups are so long the first time. Afterward, only data changes are written, so backups are much shorter.
Backup times will continue to vary based on how many apps were altered since the last sync. If you've used one app since the last backup, your backup will be very short. If you've used 20 apps, the backup will be longer. But you will be rid of the dreaded hour (or more) long backup, that is a promise.
Now that your apps are installed and backing up correctly, the number one rule is to *never, ever install or update apps through the App Store on the iPod*. ONLY install and update through iTunes, and backup after every install or update. The App Store on the iPod is still unstable and can cause lock ups, crashes and freezes. And it is the culprit in these long backup times. Avoid it until the bugs are ironed out.
Also, do not be tempted to disable backups using programs or code edits available online. Your backups are crucial in the event of a restore. Backups contain all of your personal data like game scores, notes, icon arrangement, application data, etc. And it's not a matter of if you'll have to restore one day, it's when, and you'll be glad you have a backup when you do.

Thanks for your reply, the trackpad is 9 months old, but it was a christmas present so I dont have the receipt.
Also Im in Dubai, which pretty much means that your warranty lasts as long as they remember your face in the shop buying it!
I have read through over 10 pages of people with the same problem as mine here on the support site, the only variable is different solutions
work for some people, and nothing works for others.
I found turning my iPhone off fixed the problem for 2 days!!
Most people seem to only have the issue with Mavericks, and a few suffered with the Lions.
The movies are playing fine, they just keep pausing and playing continuously from phantom clicks.
Its got so bad now, I dont even have enough control to restart the machine!
I would simply chance buying a new trackpad... but after I received a phantom click about 20 seconds AFTER the pad was switched off, I dont wanna go throwing more money at this needlessly.
I wish Apple would take these sort of things seriously, if I cant get this sorted in a week, Im gonna have to either upgrade my Macbook to Mavericks (which I did before, then spent 2 days reverting back to Snow Leopard)
Or im gonna have to buy a PC and Cubase!
If any one at Apple is reading this (I do believe I just heard an echo!) Some of us rely on your equipment for work, and we do seem to pay a very big premium just for the privilege of the little white logo.
Is there any chance you could show your existing users a hint of respect or common courtesy by taking these issues seriously?
It is after all our loyalty to your brand over the years that put you were you are today.
