Fixed Asset usefull life problem

Dear Experts
I have import fixed asset master, then when I created acquisition, I see the planned depreciation calculation quite strange,
SBO recognize usefull life as month, not as total depreciation month
for example :
acquisition date : 31 July 2011
acquisition value : 9.000
usefull life : 9
depreciation type : LINP
planned depreciation :
Jul 2011, depre value: 3.000
Aug 2011, depre value: 3.000
Sep 2011, depre value: 3.000
system made the depreciation from Jul to Sep, because the usefull life is 9 (September)
suppose to be the usefull life is total depreciation month, so in above example, suppose to be the depreciation is:
Jul 2011 - Mar 2012 (9 months), depre value = 1.000 for each month
Please kindly advice, how I can make usefull life as total depreciation month ?
I really appreciate your help
Thank you
Best Regards
JeiMing

Dear JeiMing,
B1 always use the first calender day in the year to calculate depreciation.
In your case, the depreciation start from 01/01/2011. That is why the useful life has become 3 months only.

  • Fixed Asset import - Life Parameter

    Hi All.
I'm attempting to import legacy fixed assets. In the log file I am getting a Life Parameter error.
Can you please check my logic and / or correct me.
End of Financial Year is 30/06/09 (2009-06-01) . Useful life = 48 months. Depreciation start date = 2009-07-01
I am attempting to upload a remaining life of 47 months
    Capitalisation date = 2009-06-01
    Depreciation Start Date = 2009-07-01
    Remaining Life = 47
Have I got this right? Anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue?
    Thanks
    Peter

    Hi,
The import functionality is mainly designed to import legacy data , meaning that user wants to have start of fiscal year values of a fixed assets with capitalisation-start depreciation date in a year earlier than fiscal year of the import
In your scenario, the Fiscal year of start depreciation is 2009 and you want to import values at start fiscal year of 2009, logically this
means that start depreciation date is not earlier than first day of fiscal year 2009, so the reamining useful life must be equal to total useful life.
For acquisitions in current fiscal year I would recommend to use the module 'adquisition' rather than import
I stronlgly recommend to visit in SAP Channel portal, Business One, SELF-HELP & LIBRARY, Financial Add-ons: There, under root cause , there is one item dedicated to Fixed assets problems and in particular to import processes.

  • Changing Fixed Assets useful life according IAS rules

    Hi all,
According to the new IAS rules (International Accounting Standards) when an asset's useful life (currently with straight line depreciation) is changed we have to distribute the "net book value" (remaining depreciation to be posted) between all the remaining months in the same proportion.
Currently, SAP standard calculates the depreciation as the difference between the posted depreciation throughout the previous months and the amount that should have been depreciated with the new useful life, and it assigns this calculated amount in the current month when the useful life is changed.
We have checked that the remaining depreciation to be posted can be distributed equally over the remaining periods of the fiscal year by marking the "smoothing" flag through transaction OAYR per company code, but we need this amount to be distributed over all the remaining periods for the new useful life (not only over the current fiscal year).
Please find below an example to try to clarify my query:
A fixed asset with str.line depreciation has the following values:
    Acquisition value: 12000 eur
    Useful life: 3 years
    Depreciation per year: 4000 eur.
The asset starts to depreciate on 01.01.2008 and its useful life is
changed to 2 years on 01.07.2008. On that moment the net book value is
    10000 eur.
SAP adjusts the difference between the amount that should have been
depreciated with the new useful life (3.000 eur) and the real amount
posted (2.000 eur) = 1.000 eur depending on the "smoothing" flag:
    1. If the flag is not marked: SAP assigns 1.500 eur (500 eur (6.000/12)
+ 1.000 eur from the difference) on 01.07.2008
    2. If the flag is marked: SAP distributes the difference between the
remaining periods of the current year (from July to December) and it
    assigns 666,66 eur per month (500 eur + 166,66, obtained from 1.000
    eur/6 months).
But we need the same depreciation amount distributed over the remaining
    months: 10.000 eur/18 months = 555,55 eur/month.
Has anyone come through the same problem before?
The only solution I can think of is transferring the asset values to a new one. Or maybe a user exit.
Any feedback will be much appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance. Best regards

    Hi Markus,
Sorry to come back to you regarding this question. Unfortunately we are not still on 6.0 so we can't take advantage of the new functionality.
I am now trying to make an asset transfer through transaction ABUMN but the new asset is taking into account the capitalisation value of the original asset rather than the net book value that we would need the system to consider to calculate the new depreciation values.
Do you know if there is a way to solve this?
    Thanks a lot. Best regards

  • FIXED ASSETS - USEFUL LIFE

    Hi,
I´m modifying the useful life of some fixed assets and don´t have problems since it makes the amortization assessed since they are and it me re-calculates those who even remain.
The problem is that they request that, in first foreseen, amortization does not load the difference that exists between the aortas  and that correspondent with the new useful life. There is way of doing that it first amortization goes out without the adjustment?
    Thanks in advance.-

    Hi,
If the problem relates to life parameter, it could be possibly caused by your fixed asset remaining life calculation is not correct.
    See this formula:
    Remaining life (months) =
Useful life (months) - (1st date of the import year - deprt. start date).
    Example:
    Useful life asset 100 months
asset is imported on : 2007-12-31
1st date of the import year : 2007-01-01
    Depr. start date : 2006-01-01
    Remaining life = 100 - (2007-01-01 - 2006-01-01)
                    = 100 - (12)
                   = 88 months
let me know if you need more detail and still fail to import

  • Fixed asset import problem because of validation

    Hi all,
I have a problem caused by the validation of the import tool for fixed asset.
Because the customer is using a depreciation method starting on the first day of the next period I cannot import the remaining life in months properly.
Here are the facts for my example:
    - Fiscal year from January to December
    - 36 months linear depreciation
    - Import done on Jan 1 2009
    - Asset bought in March 2008
    - Start depreciation in April 2008
As per the validation in the import tool I need to put 26 months remaining but the reality is 27 months remaining.
What can I do to solve this issue?

  • Fixed Assets: Changing Category, Depreciation, life

    hi
i have an requirement where we need to change asset category, depreciation method, no depreciation and life(1 month). And want to make total depreciation to zero.
    Ex:
    Asset#A1 already depreciated some amount.
Original category X and degault rules are set to Depreciable.
Defined to new category Y and associate default rules to all CORP and TAX books to not depreciate.
Changed from category X to Y
Now after reclassification, it is depreciating entire amount of the asset and posting to current open period. As the reclassification does not default the new category depreciation flag, it is depreciating entire fixed asset cost immediately. I didn't run depreciation.
Now how do i change YTD depreciation to zero?
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.....
    Need it immediately.....

Hmm, did you not test this out in a test environment first before doing this in production? Can you be specific on the choices that you made when you changed this asset? Maybe you chose to expense the adjustment in the current period rather than to amortize? Because you originally had it in a depreciable status, then changing it to new financial information, looks like it is choosing to expense the remaining asset cost immediately (which is why you are getting depreciation without having run depreciation). You may need to contact Oracle support at this point to find out how to best recover from this. Though if just one asset, you can just do a journal entry to reverse the depreciation. Then you would want to contact support to find out what is the best way in the future to make this kind of change. The documentation unfortunately does not address the kind of change you were making here. Doe show that it is important to get the depreciation setup correct before activating an asset.

  • How to change the Asset Life in Fixed Assets

    Hi
We need to change the Use full life of the Asset.
Suppose Asset was initailly Created on 1-JAN-2005 with Usefull life of 5 Years
Now already 4 years are gone but Finance department want to change it life span to 6 Years.
    How we can do it???
    Plz Guide
    Thanks
    Malik Asif Joyia

When you make this kind of changes,
there are two ways you can deal it
either amortize the adjustments arising out of this change or let the adjustment be spread throughout the remaining useful life of the asset.
The amortize adjustment and the amortization date is useful in this regard
if you check the amortize adjustment than the whole resulting depreciation arising out of this change will be charged as an expense in the period in which teh change will take place
if you do not check that, the whole resulting depreciation will be spread over the remianing useful life of the asset
Under the depreciation tab you can view the additional depreciation,
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with Mass Changes of  fixed assets (Transaction AR31)

    Hello all,
I have the next problem: I am trying to make a massive update of fixed assets , by means of the transaction ar31, but the system goes directly  to the transaction so01 .
That I must do for being able to execute the transaction of normal way?
    Thanks.

    I think the same, but I don't understand :
<i>for a simple change better use BDC to tcode AS02.
    -> you can use transaction-recorder SHDB</i>
I was investigating and I managed to deactivate wf,  now I can execute the transaction, but not successful. The system show the next message " They do not exist responsible for task " and when checking the customizing the fixed assets (OAWF) the task have a responsible.
So I do not know that to do.
I hope you can help me

  • Problems installing add-on Fixed Assets

    Hello All
The process of creation of tables of the add-on " Fixed Assets " was interrupted and now it fails providing that it tries to resume.
Since I can do that install again the process?

    Hi,
Yes, I have always had issues initialising the Fixed Assets module. Typically, it will fail 2 or 3 times when creating the tables. Each time you can stop the add-on, restart it and say Yes to continue. Eventually it will create all the necessary tables and you can use the add-on. We've found this to take anything from 1 to 2 hours to complete per company.

  • Fixed Asset: Current Year Depreciation

    Dear Experts,
Previously, fixed assets was managed manually in an excel sheet and depreciation was calculated manually in the excel sheet.
My client wants to start using the FA Addon in March. I managed to import all the fixed asset master data with its Cost, Acc. Depn and NBV. They all tally with the GL balances as at 31.12.2010 which is the last day of the accounting year.
However, I have problem with the current year accumulated depn figure. When I run depreciation for Jan-Feb, the figure does not tally with the GL balances as at 28.02.2011.
    For example:
    Fixed Asset Cost: $5,859.00
    In SAP B1
    Depreciation method: Straight-line depreciation
Calculation medthod: Percentage of Acquisition Value
    Percentage: 33.33%
Planned monthly depreciation: $162.77  <-- Not sure how B1 get this figure
Therefore, accumulated depreciation for current year as at 28.02.2011 = $325.54
    Manual via Excel
    Depreciation method: Straight-line depreciation
Calculation medthod: Percentage of Acquisition Value
    Percentage: 33.33%
    Accumulated depreciation for current year as at 28.02.2011=  ($5,859 x 33.33%) / 12 x 2 = $325.47
How do I get the current year depreciation to tie with the GL?

    Hi Joyce,
I understand the issue you are facing is that
accumulated depreciation for current year as at 28.02.2011(calculated by Fixed assets addon) = $325.54,
    but
    accumulated depreciation for current year as at 28.02.2011(calculated by excel)= ($5,859 x 33.33%) / 12 x 2 = $325.47
you want to know how system calculate the accumulated depreciation as $325.54?
in order to make it clear,
please let me know how did you define the FA master data, such as the net book value, useful life, remaing life and so on.
Please check the FA master data->general tab and calculation tab,as it is not possible to attach the screenshot to show the relevant data, please log a SAP message for the further assistance.

  • Fixed Assets - Tax Book Depreciation Reset

    Hello Fixed Assets Experts,
My company recently reorganized our parent company, and now has the following scenario:
Due to legal changes, we need to start over the useful life on our tax books (10 and 11) and restart the calculation of depreciation based on the net book value of the asset on 1/1/2008.  Book 01 needs to continue as normal.  We would like to use the current asset numbers and not transfer anything to new numbers.  These are all of our FFE assets, so there are multiple depreciation keys and useful lives (i.e. computer equipment, property, etc).  I have tried making custom depreciation keys and changing the useful lives to get the desired result, but can't seem to find a way to do it.
    Here is an example:
Asset 1 (software), was capitalized on 06/30/2006 with a useful life of 3 years and has been depreciating since.  It is scheduled for end of life in 2009.  The net book value of the asset on 1/1/08 is 1219.97.  I need to depreciate the 1219.97 over 3 years starting on 1/1/08.
Is this possible?  We have not run our December 08 depreciation, but I am running out of options.
    Thanks in advance!

Do you working on ECC 6 and activate the option EA-FIN. In that case it is possible to use time intervale in the tab Depr Areas (click 2 times on the line). This should solve your problem.

Hi Apsara, that factor could be as simple as :
    Purchased Equipment Asset : 3,500
    Date purchased : Sep 5th
Useful life of Equipment : 6 Years
    Estimated Residual Value : 500
Yearly period ends on : Dec 31st
Depreciation has to be recorded for four months :
    (3,500 - 500) / 6 * Factor
    (3,500-500)/6 *(4/12) = 167
Factor here is 4/12 (four twelfth of an year) as four months out of 12 from september to Dec.
