Flaky Bluetooth - freezes MPB by 10s bursts

Dear all,
This is it. I've nailed it! I've noticed my MBP to get the hiccup when sometimes I connect a device via Bluetooth. It happened mostly when I hooked up my cellphone through my favorite cellphone synch tool (PhoneDirector). I initially blamed instability of the shareware with Leopard.
But today, I got it clear: I hooked up my Apple Wireless Keyboard. Bang ! My MBP froze to a standstill every 10" or so. I could monitor this hiccup through "MenuMeters" running on my menubar: A nice "comb" pattern of CPU highs.
Between hiccups I managed to start a 'top -o cpu' and ticked kernel going to 160% CPU. I then managed to type a 'sudo shutdown -r +0' and got the Mac to cleanly reboot, before I totally looses control on it.
Investigating on the (post mortem) system logs, I clearly saw these repeated lines: (below)
So, well, that's it. Googling on the issue, it looks like I'm not the only one reporting a bumpy ride here.
Can anyone help me/u with an update on this issue. It's all over Google and I don't find a definitive comment on this.
Thanks,
Thierry

Same problem here, but I have it on wake. My MBP running 10.5.2 doesn't immediately start when I lift the lid to wake it from sleep. The fans start, the screen stays black, and it takes almost a full minute to come to life. Checking the console gives me the error you are getting--at least similar.
Here is what my console output looks like:

  • Flaky bluetooth connection on iPhone 4.

My iPhone 4 seems to have a flaky bluetooth connection stability.  I'm using it with a Bose headset, but had the same problem with a previous headset of the same type.
The phone pairs fine with the headset, and usually works ok. But every few days, when I power on the headset, it will not connect to the phone.  Power cycling the headset a few times does not seem to help.  Only when I turn off bluetooth on the phone, and then turn it back on again before powering on the headset will I be able to establish a connection.  Then things will be ok for a several days (with 2 uses of the headset per day - back and forth commute), until the problem recurs.  I am running iOS 4.3.5 but have not made the jump to iOS5.
Anyone else experience this problem?  And find a solution?

I used to be able to connect my iPhone 4 with my 3 yr old MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. I used my iPhone's personal hotspot more then once to access the Internet on my laptop when there was no wireless. I don't get why it wouldn't work with my new MacBook Air. That just seems silly. My laptop found my iPhone and was able to add the device, but then my iPhone wouldn't connect. Is there really no way around this??

  • Bluetooth Freezing up on Lenovo T Series Computers

    Lenovo T Series Community
I own three Lenovo Laptops (T400-Win 7 x86, T430-WIn 7 x64 and T520-Win7 x64) and I have problems with the Bluetooth locking or Freezing up. Its more prevalent on my T430 system than the other two although it happens with them occasionally too.  Typical I have issue when booting up my T430.  The booth tooth never seems to load.  I simply select the Fn +F5 key and re-boot the Bluetooth and I'm off.  With the T520 and T400 the problem usual occurs while using the computer.  Happen 2 - 3 times a week. Again, all I have to do is select the Fn+F5 key and re-boot the Bluetooth radio and typically have no further issues.  Any suggestions about what maybe going on.

  • Bluetooth freezing up when trying to pair with a bluetooth headset

I recently got a Plantronics Voyager 520 and whenever I try to connect it with my MBP it like freezes, not the whole computer though. Whenever I move the mouse into the top right corner (where the time and stuff is) it does the spinning thingy to show that its working. Also, system preferences stops working as well.
I have a brand new macbook pro model that I purchased in June. I was hoping to be able to use my headset with it but I have no idea why it isn't working.
Oh, and I paired the headset with computer fine. But whenever I try to connect them after that it doesn't work.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

If the error persists consider capturing a user mode dump of the crash to see if perhaps another, possibly third party, module may actually be causing the crash.
You can configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first.
If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it any name such as explorerdump.reg) then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time
explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,43,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,44,00,75,\
    00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, can you then make the .dmp file available (provide link) via a public folder on Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site.
Here's a couple of links on using OneDrive (SkyDrive):

  • 3G/GPRS Networking (bluetooth) freeze on connecting!

I'm french so sorry for my lack in english. I get a big and huge Freeze problem with my GPRS connexion. I'm using a Sony Ercison W880i.
The freeze problem, block everything, noway to get in Terminal, nothing else to do than reseting !
It happens to me about 1 out of 2 connect attempts and then the power button shutdown is the only way to kill the PPPD and get back to try another connect attempt. I have the last generation MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. Given the frequency with which this problem occurs I am forcefully rebooting a couple of times a day
Randomly, when I expect to connect with GPRS, It says "Connecting", freezing, and after that, I have few seconds to turn off photoshop and my really in need-application. Only few seconds. After that, I'm allowed to move my mouse, but that's all. I can't launch Terminal, can't restart Finder, nothing.
Could Apple do something to correct this incredible but really annoyed bug ?
    Thanks

    can someone reply !!!!!

  • Screen rotation freezes MPB

I just hooked my MBP up to a Samsung 215TW. Everything seems to work fine with the screen in ordinary landscape mode, but after rotating it to portrait mode the computer would freeze. Cursor moves (sometimes a beachball, sometimes not) but the OS is unresponsive and control-option-escape does nothing.
The freeze isn't immediate but seems to occur every time the screen saver kicks in and randomly while using Aperture.
    Any ideas?

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Bluetooth Freeze

    Hi
I have had my Ideapad U410 for about 18 months now.
Recently my bluetooth mouse has stopped working after a few minutes of use. If I switch the mouse off and then on again it works again. I assumed that it was a problem with the mouse so I purchased a new one.
    Guess what. The same problem.
Now with two blutooth mice displaying the same problem I am guessing that the trouble lies within the laptop, but what to do to identify whats going wrong.
    Anyone got any ideas please.
    John

  • MBP retina Bluetooth freezes

This problem has been happening on and off since I bought the computer as soon as it came out. The computer was replaced and the issue came back on the new machine after a few weeks of use.
    The problem is this:
I'll be using my computer with bluetooth mouse and keyboard, everything working as it should until suddenly they stop responding. I get no disconnetion messages and the menubar icon shows that the devices are still connected. In the console the following messages appear:
    3/17/13 11:00:21.000 AM kernel[0]: E:[AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport][StartInterruptPipeRead] ClearPipeStall failed with error 0xe000404f.
    3/17/13 11:00:21.000 AM kernel[0]: E:[AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport][AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTrans port::StartBulkPipeRead] ClearPipeStall failed with error 0xe00002ed.

    3/17/13 11:00:21.000 AM kernel[0]: [AppleBluetoothHCIControllerUSBTransport][ClearFeatureInterruptEndpointHalt] -- ClearPipeStall returned e00002ed
When this occurs the only solution I've found is to restart the computer completely.
I should also note that when this happens the menubar buttons becomes unresponsive as well. If I click it the options dropdown flashes after ~10 seconds then immediately disappears again.
This has been bothering me for a long time but has just recently become more frequent.
    Any ideas?

  • Mouse freezes for a short burst when mousing over links in Gmail?

As the 'question' says. Gmail in IE doesn't exhibit this issue. My add-ons are Delicious, Xmarks, IBM CCK, Java Console, Java quick starter, and MS .net framework assistant. No themes. Seems to line up with the latest Firefox release of 3.6.8.

I fixed this problem. The problem was my Ipod being plugged into the computer. Every time the ipod was plugged in, firefox stuttered and lagged as stated. I noticed when I had my ipod unplugged for a while to use another usb device, firefox was fixed, I thought it was the update that week that fixed it. Couple days later I plugged my Ipod back in, problem returned. But, ever since I started charging my ipod elsewhere, the problem has disappeared. So, anyone still having this problem, check to see if you have an ipod, iphone, or another usb storage device plugged in.

  • Is Apple Working working on a fix for Bluetooth glitch in iOS6?

I held off from the iOS upgrade so as to not loose google maps, and so now i can see that there is no quick fix for the obvious flaky Bluetooth!
Dose anyone know are they working on a soft fix?

    Hi Barry,
Sorry if i wasn't clear. In relation to intermittent Bluetooth discusion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19819527#19819527
I am getting the same Bluetooth audio cutouts every 20 seconds or so. It just seems like there is no stability in the signal anymore. My audio Bluetooth headphones had been working brilliantly on iOS5 and have been using them daily for 3 years. I have tried all of the resets with no change and figured it was a code change. Have been a Mac use exclusivley since 98, but i'm no system expert, and was wondering if anyone new of a fix in the works? Cheers.

  • Mouse/Bluetooth not working properly

I've recently started to have problems with my mouse, which is a wireless bluetooth. I switched to a new bluetooth mouse and still had the same problems. Unfortunately, I don't have a wired mouse on hand. Occasionally, the mouse will not double click or allow me to pull down a menu or select text. There are numerous other problems, like text typed in the Safari search bar will disappear as I type and every few minutes the computer starts firing off the alert sound in rapid succession until I hit a key on my keyboard. Also -- coincidentally or not -- I am not able to zap my PRAM. Keyboard shortcuts all seem to work, though. I have Time Machine and was considering a system restore, but thought I'd try this first.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If your bluetooth is out of whack, the PRAM reset via a bluetooth keyboard isn't likely to work.  Try it with a USB keyboard, if you aren't using one already (preferably Apple brand, and preferably plugged directly into the Mac.)
A G4 is a pretty old model, so anothe possibility is that the onboard PRAM battery is dead or dying.  You could try replacing it.
Finally, I had a glitchy wireless mouse, and tracked the problem to a flaky Bluetooth circuit or board in my Mini.  The solution for me was a Bluetooth USB dongle.

  • Intermittent freezing : computer unusable

    Hi,
My Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz intel) has developed recently (I've had it since september but this has only started in the last week or so) a terrible problem.
After being on for a while (more than 24 hours with many suspend/resume cycles) it becomes completely unusable with intermittent freezing.
It freezes for about 10s every 5s. It goes away when I reboot (sneaking it in during the 5s of interactivity). When I say freezes I mean the entire display stops, no cursor movement, window redrawing or anything, although things I do with the mouse/keyboard are 'saved up' and appear during the 5s window of normal behaviour.
I tried activity monitor, but can't see anything in that because it doesn't redraw during the problem.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed with troubleshooting this, if anyones heard of a similar problem, or whether I should approach Apple (I have HE contract uplift for applecare but in my experience to date it seems pretty worthless; I had thought it would be proper support but evidently it just adds phone... but I'm making another post about Apple support).
    Thanks,

One thing that comes to mind is that it could be the hard drive. So the first thing to do is to back up your data and keep it backed up until the hard drive is eliminated as a possibility.
Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder in your Application folder). Click on the hard drive by brand name and then on the First Aid Tab. Check at the bottom to see that S.M.A.R.T. status is verified. Also click on the "Verify Disk" to be sure the disk doesn't need repair. Once the Disk is verified, go ahead and repair permissions using the "Repair Disk Permissions" on the lower left. Repair until there is nothing left to repair.
If all this goes well, click on the "Macintosh HD". At the bottom right, check on the "Capacity", "Available", and "Used". You want to check that your drive is not getting too full. If you have 15%-20% of the total capacity available as free space, then lack of free space is not the problem.
The other thing to do is to run the Apple Hardware Test. You do that by booting from Install Disc #1 while holding down "D". Instructions are on the disc and will be on the screen when you boot up. Run the extended version. If you get any error codes, write them down and call Apple. An error code indicates a hardware problem, which will be covered by your warranty. Same thing if S.M.A.R.T. status is not verified.
Since the freeze seems to happen when the machine warms up, I am suspicious that it may be a logic board problem. I had a very similar problem with my iBook which turned out to be the logic board. Don't know if it's the same with your MBP, but since it seems to be heat related, it could well be something similar.
Because corrupted software could also cause freezing, Apple will likely want you to reinstall the OS to see if that's the problem. That's what they had me do on the iBook. As it happened, the freezing was so bad that it was not possible to reinstall the OS--it froze during the process, which had to be aborted, giving me a message that my hard drive would be done in, which it ultimately was.
Try some of these steps, and post back if you have any questions or need any clarification on anything.
    Good luck!

  • TS3048 OSX 10.9.1 losing bluetooth connection

Just installed the 10.9.1 update this morning. In general things are running a little better but my bluetooth mouse and keyboard keep losing connection. This is happening several times a minute- very annoying.
My machine is a 2011 MacBook Pro. It is still responding the the built in keyboard and trackpad so I am assuming this is a bluetooth issue.
    Thanks for any help available.

Experience the flaky bluetooth straight away after 10.9.1 update as well:
    - was using apple wireless keyboard and trackpad
    - updated Mac OS X to 10.9.1
    - trackpad works after reboot, keyboard doesn't
    - tried to pair the keyboard several times with no luck (it would be detected a few times but then pairing would not work; took out the batteries, restarted bluetooth on Mac etc.)
So far cannot use Apple Wireless Keyboard at all.
    System specs:
    - MacBook Pro 15 (late 2013)
    Edit:
    - after numerous tries to reconnect the keyboard I got to the stage where typing numbers and pressing enter was requested during pairin
    - keyboard works again now (hope that lasts at least untill next system update)
    Steps I did:
    - took MacBook Pro away from everything together with Apple Wireless Keyboard
    - turned of Bluetooth on Mac
    - rebooted
    - turned on/off bluetooth again
    - went to System -> Keyboard -> Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard
    - switched off keyboard, switched on (long press)
    - keyboard was detected, pressed continue -> numbers to type appeared (typed them and pairing succeded)
The pairing would start many times and then stoped saying that keyboard is not detected. Eventually everything worked out. Have patience, perhaps it will work in your case too.
First time pairing Apple Wireless Keyboard on Mac OS X 10.9.0 was a breathe.

  • Playbook requires me to pay for support when it did not work from the beginning and they could not fix.

lack of email app- makes this may purchase virtually useless. because
cant bridge with my bb 9700. maybe twice after deleting from both, and rebridging, i got connections. i cant spend an hour bridging every time. since may this is unfixable. the support people cant fix it after dozens of hours. got lots.of emails from them though. asking if i was resolved. when i answered no, they asked me to do it all again. they have no fix for this.
can type documents, but cant email them to anybody. same with excel. no way to attach documents when the bridge doesnt work.
i am a ceo,and i am moving my entire organization off bb becuase of this.
have spent many many hours from the beginning in may, and now they want me to pay a 129 dollar fee to get support when it has not worked right from the beginning.
i bought an ipad today and i am absolutely blown away by how much better it is in every single way. dozens of bbs are going away now.
slow, no.email, locks up all the time, stand by button restarts tablet, no bridging without total reload on both devices. why would i go through this anymore? it is costing my business a fortune with myself and my people trying to make the playbook work.
we will get ipads and make more money.
i have tried to stay loyal to bb, but after being told i have to pay for support
when i did once get a connection through bridge, reply locked up everytime on an email. could not type.

I would like to add my support to this comment.
Strike 1) Bridging a BB 9700 with a PB is flaky at best. Even if you run the very latest software on both, it does not work properly. This is NOT a user issue but a programme/application issue. RIM software running on RIM hardware and O/S and NOT being able to connect properly = RIM fault.(see my other post: My Bridge connects, it exchanges data like passwords, number of unread emails and my playbook notifies me when someone calls my BB, but it does NOT unlock)
Strike 2) All this used to work fine during the 90d grace suport period (apart from the flaky bluetooth issue that required a hard reboot of the BB whenever the connection was broken in a bad way)
Strike 3) Now, after a PB OS upgrade (which I faithfully applied), several phone upgrades (due to another problem) and the latest Bridge application install, it all doesn't work anymore, 100 days after I bought the flipping thing. so I have a fancy ebook reader, not the productivity enhancing tool I can use on the go.
So now I am stuck with a forum that can't help, a technical database that does not contain this support information and a broken RIM application on RIM Hardware and O/S that I paid a lot of money for. And now they want more to look at this incident????? I am sorry but if this was a problem caused by usage, configuration or any other user error, I could understand it. But this is all completely in RIMs ballpark. I have done everything right. It connects. It just DOES NOT WORK!!!!!
As I said in my other post, an evaluation of the PB in my company is ongoing as a possible management tool by people I know quite well, as I work in the area, but my advice would definitely be to stay away until basic functionality like emails, attachments, calendars etcetera are all suitably solved and usable by the average manager with sausage fingers and no clue about bluetooth, hard reboots and who won't be able to hold down the power, + & - buttons at the same time as the fingers won't fit!!
So RIM, get your finger out, open up an email support channel or get some qualified support people go through this forum and help those people who have shown faith in your products and who now have real problems with your software and hardware. DONT HIDE BEHIND A STUPID SUPPORT FEE - MAN UP TO YOUR PROBLEMS!!!

  • OpenAL doesn't work... BF2 O NO O NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think my openAL software stuff doesn't work... I can't set X-fi on?Battlefield 2?and when I try to use sound on Eternal Lands, which contains openAL.dll, the game freezes. I have to set the BF2 sound settings to "high" to get the 3-d sound on, but it cause small freezes in sudden sound bursts like the repeated ticks of gunfire or the repeated zt of a helecopter blade, or a lot of people moving or a lot of grass making grass noise, etc, etc, etc. Also, when I try to use the "test" feature of CMSS-3d in gaming mode, the console freezes and the task manager shows it's using up one of my cores.
Angry consumer part>>>I contacted CRE-A-TIVE for SUPPORT AND THEY SENT ME A EMAIL FULL OF USELESS ARTICLES!!! THE RETURN ADRESS WAS INVAILD for ((SOME))) REASON!!!!<<<End of angry consumer part
. I got the new drivers, but they did the same thing. This all started when I took it in to frys electro and had my Motherboard changed for a Nforce 680i to a Asus P5K-E/Wi-fi. Maybe they damaged the card?
Conclusion>>> Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for any help.

My MAC still can't get mail out.
I did that (started to set up the MAIL Account) and it couldn't find the
outgoing mal server again. I called my ISP to make sure their server was
working. All is well there. They said it could be that some of the MAC
wireless settings had changed so we gave it the acid test of reality by
hardwiring the MAC (plugged it into) to the wireless network router.
I did that (plugged it in) and the MAC proceeded to complete the setting up of the MAIL
account. All of the inbox stuff is there but not the sentbox stuff. I now
have an "ON MY MAC item under my mail boxes that I never noticed before. If
we ever get this problem with getting mail out on the MAC will I ever be
able to get the outbox contents back?
At this point I thought all was well. I tried to reply to you on the MAC and
it still couldn't "find the server". Remember now it is still hardwired.
The ISP suggested changing the server to smtp.sentex.net. The MAC still did
    not find the out server.
It shouldn't be a "wireless" issue or a "server spec issue" because this
ACER is right beside the MAC about 15 feet away from the wireless router and
is using the same outgoing server. And SAFARI is working as further proof of signal\connection.
Also the SEND icon in creating an email mode doesn't work now either, so I now can't even test the set up by attempting to sending an email.
    Any suggestions?
WIN XP is starting to look pretty good compared to this O/S
Thanks for your patience. I wish I still had mine!
    Bill
