Flash and a Javascript tagged URL

I was sent a link for a 360 panorama, which I am linking to
inside my flash movie. When I use the JS script tag, it get an 404
error. When I strip the URL out of what I was sent, it gets to the
server looking for the 360 Pan, but will not show it. It seems to
see the information in the JS file however.

How much information does Flash need to handle a link tagged
with JS? Below is the original tag I was sent.

I have Safari and Firefox loaded on my Mac. My Firefox browser detects Adobe Flash Player and Javascript is enabled, but my Safari browser doesn't seem to detect it although it is definitely loaded and installed on the computer. I can watch/see videos on youtube and see flash-enabled content on websites using firefox browser, but my safari browser cannot. Is there anything else I can do to fix this? I went and checked that I have javascript enabled in my preferences for the Safari Browser.
I have reinstalled the latest version of flash player on my computer several times. But, when I go to a website like youtube, all it tells me is that either my Javascript is disabled or I have an old version of Flash player. I've repeatedly installed the newest version. No it doesn't work now. I uninstalled Flash, reinstalled, unclicked the javascript buttons in safari preferences, restarted, everything, and still I can't play vids in sites like youtube.com.

I asked Thomas Stout to describe exactly what he's doing with Flex and JMol, and I'm posting his response just to be sure that there is no way (other than the portal) of duplicating what he is doing using WDA.
Here's his response:
Backend (linux):
- we have a "database" of crystal structures in flat-file directories (for example,
weekly rsync's from the PDB)
- we parse those with perl scripts into an XML table with tagged data that we
feel is relevant
Flex:
- the Flex app is constructed to load that XML file and display the data in a
table. We exported that code from Flex into an HTML table, which provided
the basic page with a Flash movie of the Flex app embedded (See the attached
screenshot from a development version of our web page: it's the horizontal
rectangle at the top of the page).
webpage:
- we then built of the Jmol functionality into the lower half of this web page. The
table entries at the top are sortable on any column and filterable via the text
box. Once a line in the table is selected, the "Load" button passes the
accompanying structure to the Jmol applet and all of the Jmol "tools" become
active in the lower half of the page. There is no communication in the reverse
direction (can't think of why you would want to!).
- BTW, the web page does not use "frames" -- I'm personally opposed to them --
but it is all constructed within a table. The Flash movie is in a table cell that
spans two columns, the Jmol app is down a row and in the left hand (wider) cell,
while the selectable links on the right are all in the right-hand cell. The page is
an amusing gmisch of HTML, javascript and JmolScript all fighting it out
together..... :)

We need to be able to have her working on the photos on her computer with her copy of LR and me on my computer with my version of LR being able to access what is already tagged and given back to me. This seems hard. We need advice on if it is at all possible to have two computers simultaneously working on LR . Sounds like your assistant isn't instructing Lightroom to write the tagging and editing to the files themselves, so wehn the files return to you, they don't have editing and tagging information. She need to select the photos in Lightroom and then Ctrl-S (Cmd-S on Mac). Or alternatively turn on the option to autmoatically write this information to the files.
If you are using RAW photos, then this information will be written to a sidecar XMP file, and your assistant must provide you with the sidecar file. If these photos are not RAW photos, then the information is written directly into the photo file itself.
Lightroom wasn't designed to be a multi-user program, and so it is truly not possible to have two people working on the same catalog at once. The way you are doing things, as modified above, is probably the way to go.
As an alternative, you can transfer (portions of) catalogs as well as photos back and forth and then all of these issues disappear, but a catalog might be rather large for a flash drive (or maybe not, it depends)

Javascript, Flash and Bookmarks

We are using Captivate 8 to create our courses. On slide 3 through 12 I have one web object per slide which brings up a web page containing a streaming video player that points at a video hosting company that we rent space on. Our website is hosting the HTML containing the steaming video player used for each slide.
On each of these slides (3 through 12) I have some JavaScript (upon page load) which is trying to set the suspend data and making sure that the current slide is being bookmarked. I have tried calling the suspend data call and even the set Bookmark call and both have the same results: Nothing happens.
I am testing it out on a PC running Flash and am using Fiddler to watch the transactions. Once the videos have started (starting on slide 3), I do not detect any activity to update the bookmark information going back to our LMS.
Once the student is past all of the slides containing the video web objects, then the bookmarking seems to start working correctly again.
It appears that Captivate is converting the slides to a Flash Movie with iframes used to display the video itself. But it appears that while the flash movie is playing the slides with the videos, no communication goes on between the course and the LMS.
The videos on each slide is only about 5 to 10 minute long.
We are having more and more students who get somewhere past the 3rd video slide and then their session times out for some reason (usually inactivity) but when they attempt to restart the course, they taken back to the first video slide again.
We are not ready to go exclusively HTML5, so I need our bookmarking to work with the Flash-version of our course.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me why this doesn't work and how to make it

I have an flv (flash 8) that's being loaded externally into a
swf called player. I have cue points that are created at run time.
The first javascript function executes but all of the other
ones seem to fail. I'm positive flash is recognizing the cue points
because i can here the browser click when it tries to execute the
other javascript functions. But nothing happens.

present in the html.

Perhaps the dreamweaver and flash versions are slightly
different.
Have you considered using SWFObject instead? I personally
prefer it and its even (apparently) used by Adobe on some of their
own sites.

While executing ObjectTag in flash.htm, a javascript error occurred

I'm attempting to place a SWF file in an editable region on a page created from a template. I get the error: While executing ObjectTag in flash.htm, a javascript error occurred. I saw on another sight that someone found the problem which was editable regions remove the head tag information. But I do not know how to enter this info. I tried just putting a </head> and a head and body tag in code view inside the name region but this did not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Description and keywords meta tags

Hello,
Could you tell me if it's possible to create HTML output of an ADF page, that has "description" and "keywords" meta tags in the head? Something like:

<meta name="description" content="This is a short description of text on a imaginary page">
I know the SEO results may not be great, but I'd still like to use it, just to make it as good as possible for search engines.

I didn't see any examples or have time to test, but you can certainly try putting the meta tags in that facet.
Update: all of the examples I can find show how to inject javascript into the metacontainer, but it should give you an idea how to do it for <meta> tags. Need help in decoding javascript tag for HTML5 output.

Hello all,
I am working on a project in Adobe captivate 7 64 bit which consists of around 500 slides with most of the slides being text and image. The problem I am facing is very unusual which I guess I am the first one to experience (as per my search on google and forums). So, after I publish my project the output works fine in html (local and online) BUT when I run index.html (i.e., HTML5 output) the course does not run and screen is blank.
After spending a week on searching online and using the trail and error strategy I was able to find out that it was the URL text "F:\usrnew\purchase" placed in the the middle of the course which caused the whole damage. However the url was removed and the project was submitted.
After spending some extra time I found out that the letter "\u" which is a javascript tag was causing the problem for the HTML5 output. I don't really know much about javascripting but found out that the tag can be decoded using some programming strategy. Now this is where my knowledge comes to a standby and needs a lift from you guys.
Any ideas, help, knowledge sharing would be very helpful for me and all those who might face this issue in future.

Voila! The issue is resolved.
Solution: Change the single slash "\" to a double slash "\\".

Adobe 'fixes' for Flash and Dreamweaver

According to what I've been reading, Adobe added fixes to
Dreamweaver 8.02 to deal with the Active Content problem created by
Microsoft when Flash animations are embedded in web pages. Since I
have an earlier version of Dreamweaver and Flash and am having
problems like everyone else with that issue, would some 8.02 user
kindly inform me if this is indeed the case, and what does one do
in the new version to ensure Flash active content runs as intended?
Is it something that one must still manually add to the code in an
.html file, is the correction added automatically, is there an icon
to press....just how is the new feature/fix used and incorporated?

Basically after you update if you add a flash file you get
this code added to the html file:

You dont really have to do anything other then remember to
upload the scripts folder to your server when you publish.

Open PDF from database in a browser and run Javascript within PDF

What we're trying to accomplish is to query a PDF in the database and open the PDF in the browse. Once opened if a user click on a link to open another PDF, it launchs a URL to Coldfusion, that queries the database and opens the PDF link. This all works but we also want to have the open PDF goto a section or bookmark within the PDF. We currently have JavaScripts within the PDF links that do that but only if the PDF is in the file system. We're using the app.openDoc to get a reference to the opened PDF. But when opening the PDF from the database we pass the control to Coldfusion using app.launchURL or app.getURL. These do not pass back a reference to the opened PDF and the JavaScripts fails.
I'm looking for different methods or ideas.
Is there another way to do this, I'm new to acrobat JavaScripting?

I tried tapping and holding the attachment icon, it just shows "Open / Bookmark/ Copy"...
Also i tried opening the attachement first and then tapping on it, it just shows "open in Safari"

I continually get a Java error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and nothing has helped. I've updated flash and Java.

How can I read the bootstrap files and extract the fragment-URLs and fragment-numbers in plain text?

How can I read the bootstrap files of any HDS Live stream and extract the fragment-URLs and fragment-numbers in plain text?
Could it be that it is some kind of compressed format in the bootstrap? Can I uncompress it wirh f4fpackager.exe? Could not find any download for f4fpackager.exe. I would prefere less code to do so. Is there something in Java of JavaScript, that can extract the fragment-numbers?

Doesn't sound too hard to me. Your class User (the convention says to capitalize class names) will have an ArrayList or Vector in it to represent the queue, and a method to store a Packet object into the List. An array or ArrayList or Vector will hold the 10 user objects. You will find the right user object from packet.user_id and call the method.
Please try to write some code yourself. You won't learn anything from having someone else write it for you. Look at sample code using ArrayList and Vector, there's plenty out there. Post in the forum again if your code turns out not to behave.

What's With Flash and IE7 ?

I have noticed a number of posting of Flash and IE7 troubles,
but they are not close enough or succinctly worded enough to suit
me to glom onto their post with my problem, and I noticed that the
ones who have a problem similar to mine are not being answered. So,
I take it that there is definitely a problem with Flash and IE7,
but no one knows the answer and Microsoft has not risen to the
problem of dealing with a problem that affects hundreds of
thousands of users. I have posted the following on a Microsoft
forum, but have received no reponses there as of yet. Hopefully the
Flash gurus here will be able to rise to the occasion more quickly
than their Microsoft IE counterparts.
If you look at the home page for

using FireFox or IE 6 (with security settings lowered), you'll
notice a scrolling flash text box at the top, and an exact
duplicate of that text box at the very bottom of the page.
If you use IE 7, the one on top does not show but the one on
the bottom of the page does. These two Flash boxes are identical in
every way.
I have toyed with my IE 7 settings to the point where IE was
screaming at me that the world was going to come to an end due to
my low security settings, and still the one on top does not show.
What ever could be the problem with this?

Nickels55, you are correct....mostly.
One of my acquaintances busted into the weather.com code and
sent me the source. After much trial and error, I found that by
removing the STYLE block completely, I no longer had a problem. I
even tried removing the styles between the STYLE block, but that
didn't work. I had to remove the STYLE tags, too. I tried linking
out to a style page to no avail , btw.

What's really weird is that this problem only affects the
Flash code ABOVE the Weather.com widget (you would think it would
affect below, but such is not the case), and only in IE 7.
