Flash as a background

i have seen a numer of sites which use flash as a background
here is just one example but i know of many others
http://sulake.com/blog/entries/2010-06-02-Virtual_thieves_caught_in_Habbo_Hotel_Finland.ht ml
in the past i have seen comments on this forum that say that it is a complex thing to do and noththing else.
can people give me links to in depth tutorials about how to set flash as a background
and i dont mean using absolute positioning to place things on top of flash.

Hi Murray
See - http://www.pziecina.com/test_ideas/swfbg_test.html.
You will have to resize your browser slightly to see the effect, (1px will do).
I have not included the javascript to resize the flash background, nor the actionscript for the maintaining of the aspect ration, (did this in a personal trial project so it does work, see para below).
If you look at the html code you will no doubt recognize the div hack for such things, but now we have animated svg's that can be used as backgrounds and resizeable static background images I decided to abandon the idea, was never really an option in my honest opinion though, for the reasons previously stated.
PZ
Forgot to add Murray - the original swf was 320pxx350px, and I did not up-size this so please ignore the quality.

  • Flash game scrolling background

    I am creating a flash game where the character stays in the
    centre of the screen and the background image scrolls past as keys
    are pressed. The scrolling works fine, and the background image
    won't scroll of the screen to the left or the right. It is with the
    up and down where I am having a problem. The image will scroll
    upwards off the screen and won't scroll downwards as it should...
    here's my code:

    it would indirectly solve your problem because knowing that
    is key to knowing the code required to prevent your background from
    scrolling off-stage.
    if you double click your background you should be taken that
    the background's timeline. in the viewing area the stage center
    (marked by a plus) is where? the upper left of your bg graphic? the
    center of your bg graphic? elsewhere?

  • Loading Flash Menu in Background?

    I've inherited a website with a huge (2.5MB) flash menu system and would like to know if there is an elegant way to load it in the background from maybe an intro page that redirects to the home page after a certain amount of time - or possible when the menu is done loading.  Thanks in advance.

    var mcl:MovieClipLoader=new MovieClipLoader();
    var lo:Object={};
    lo.onLoadInit=function(target){
    // loading is complete.  remove intro display
    target.play();
    mcl.addListener(lo);
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("targetMC",this.getNextHighestDepth());
    mcl.loadClip("yourmainswf.swf",targetMC);  // put an empty keyframe at frame 1 of yourmainswf.swf and add a stop();

  • Text on some sites flash with yellow background

    Since upgrading to 3.1.1 I've noticed that some pages have text areas that flash with a yellow background when loading or when an ad on that page changes. Huffingtonpost.com is the most common offender, but it has happened on other sites as well.
    The yellow background "flash" seems to be contained within a box or frame in which the text sits. It's brief and then the background reverts to white.
    Just to be clear, I'm not referring to any graphic that is Flash-based. I mean an area on the page that flashes a different color before reverting to its normal white.
    What's going on?

  • Transparent Flash has black background

    I have a video flash file created in Premiere Pro CS4 which I keyed out the background, exported as a FLV/F4V with an encoded alpha channel. I place the flash on a JPG in Dreamweaver CS4 and want the movie to run transparent, but I always get a black box surrounding my movie. I use the "wmode" as "transparent" in the flash dialog box, but this does not eliminate the black background around the movie. Any suggestions?

    Transparency with *.flv's works for me when I place the background on the bottom layer in the Flash program project (*.fla) and place the video on the layer above, in the Flash program project. Publish this "Flash Movie" from Flash and cut and paste the Flash code from the "Published" HTML page into either the table cell or div on your final Dreamweaver page depending upon whether you are building an "old school" table based page or a CSS based page.
    If you are creating one of those "floating" over the top, Web page movies, someone in the Flash or Dreamweaver forum should be able to help you with that.
    Also, in Premiere, you should be working in a "Desktop mode" sequence with "Square pixels" selected.
    Here are the settings to get the flv to encode with an alpha channel:

  • Slow moving of a Flash application from background to foreground [cross-post]

    I have created a "big" Flash application, ~150 MB RAM. When I
    move this application from foreground to background and (after some
    time) viceversa, I notice a considerable slowdown, i.e. for about
    thirty seconds the application becomes unusable.
    This behavior occurs using:
    - Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Mozilla Firefox 3 on
    Microsoft Windows XP
    - Mozilla Firefox 3 on Linux, and
    - Air on Linux and on Windows.
    Do you have any suggestions?

    An additional note:
    I initially assumed that was caused the swap mechanism of my
    browser. Later I
    discovered that, by default, Mozilla Firefox prevent Windows
    from swapping out memory when the program is minimized (see option
    config.trim_on_minimize).
    So I disable the paging system of Windows, but nothing has
    changed.
    So I came to the conclusion that can not be due to the
    swapping of the operating system or of the browser.
    Do you know if the flash player has an internal swap
    mechanism?

  • Flash content causing background re-draw in IE & FF3+

    Whenever I include flash content on a page it causes IE & FF3+ to redraw the background.  This does not happen in Google Chrome, Safari, or FF2.
    On every page of my site there is a small flash animation that is in a hidden div.  That flash content become visible and plays on a mouse-over event.  That all works fine.  However, in the above mentioned browsers, that flash content causes the site's background to be redrawn on every page-load, causing a flicker.  Is there any way to prevent this?  A google search revealed other people having the same issue, but no resolution.
    You can view the problem here:
    http://jugtones.com
    (Run your mouse over the animation in the lower-right corner to trigger the flash animation)
    Removing the flash content fixes the issue, but I of course would like to keep it.  Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,
    -Scott

    It looks like this person has done some serious documentation about this issue.  Can we get this addressed?

  • Itune music videos display no images but flashing vivid coloured background

    Having upgraded to itunes 7.1 sometime ago I cannot see me existing music videos or even new ones that I purchase. The screen only shows a vivid coloured background, sometimes flashing effect, but not a single image, despite hearing the chosen song ok. Whats the problem, dvd's I play are OK

    (Sorry about barging in, Timmy.)
    +The screen only shows a vivid coloured background, sometimes flashing effect, but not a single image, despite hearing the chosen song ok.+
    With those symptoms, especially if the colors are pink, purple or green, the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section from the following document is worth a try:
    Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows XP and 2000 video playback performance issues
    But by all means, if there are newer video drivers available for your video card or display adaptor then it's worth upgrading them (as Timmy suggests) to see if you can still get good video with the Direct3D acceleration enabled.

  • Flash autoplay in background tab

    hello,
    sometimes I like to listen to some music playlists from youtube while I'm browsing the internet but I can't get this work on Safari.
    so.. I have an open tab with youtube playing my playlist.
    when I move to other tab playlist won't play next song cause autoplay only works when tab with flash is active. that's why everytime I want next song to play I have to go back to my youtube tab...
    is there any possibility to turn on flash autoplay in the background tab?

    HI,
    You could use another browser such as Firefox and have it active while using Safari.

  • Flash CS5: Stage background changes to white upon export no matter what color I set it to?

    Hello,
    As the title speaks for itself, I've been running into this problem since yesterday and couldn't figure out what is wrong with flash. Normally, I like to work with black background, so my stage background is always set to black, However, when I exported to view my project, the background changes to white. I've tried to check the preferences, setups and nothing I found suspicious is causing this.
    I've tried to create a new AS 3.0 document, and still, it gives me a white background when I export to view regardless if I set the stage background to red or blue.
    I've tried restarting my computer, and yet nothing is fixing it.
    If anyone can help me figure out this problem, I'll gladly appreciate it! Thanks..

    Thanks for the wonderful quick fix simPod_, I've deleted my mm.cfg file, but somehow this isn't permanent. It should do for now except the hassle of deleting the file and restarting flash. If anyone else have a permanent solution to this, I'll gladly appreciate any responses. Thanks!

  • Using Flash as HTML background image?

    Can I use a SWF as a HTML background image?

    No, you can't use SWF in html background.
    The background does not allow any active content.

    The blue is coming from your use of bgcolor="#003366" in your first row cell which appears while waiting to load all those graphics. Once the graphics are cached, I don't see the blue anymore.
    Change this:
    <td colspan="7" bgcolor="#003366">
    to this:

  • Flashing grey screen and background pic when log in, can't access anything!

    Please bare with me, this is a long one since I'm including every little detail in hope that it helps my desperate situation. I have been receiving "startup disk is full" messages for about a month now on the MacBook Air OS X Version 10.8.5 I bought new last summer. I am currently traveling throughout Asia with limited internet access, but am working from the road, which makes having a working computer critical. I checked online and followed all the advice I understood on how to clear up space: moved all my documents and pictures to Box/Dropbox, deleted unused applications, and emptied my general trash and iPhoto trash. This only stopped the startup disk full messages for a week before they started coming up again and again. I checked my storage and it said the "Other" was taking up most of the space. I realize that this could mean any number of things.I downloaded omnidisksweeper, but didn't want to risk deleting anything when I didn't what they were for. If I remember correctly, of the things I recognized, it said that my Mail was taking up a lot of space, but that made sense since I have 3 large accounts I work from. I deleted the couple files that were in the "recovered" file. Last week one of my email accounts kept resenting me the same 30 messages for a couple days. I couldn't figure out why. A couple days ago, I went to turn on my laptop after shutting it down the night before. I was able to log into my user, but once I logged in, my background picture and this blank, grey screen started alternately flashing. My dock on the bottom does not show up. In the top right corner it shows my Dropbox box icon (which I can click on and it says it's up to date, but nothing happens when I try to open it) but none of the rest (battery, Internet icons, etc). When I click on the apple in the leftmost corner nothing happens. In the top left corner the Finder toolbar shows up, but the drop down menus only open sometimes. When I click on anything from the drop down menus nothing happens. Sometimes a window pops up that says that "the last time you opened Finder, it unexpectedly quit while reopen ing windows. Do you want to try to reopen again?" The the meantime that grey screen is still flashing in the background. I have chosen "don't reopen" and "reopen" before, but nothing happens. I tried pressing down control, command, delete as suggested but nothing happens. I end up having to hold down the power button, and choose the shut down when the usual shut down, restart, sleep message shows up. I am able to access the Guest User account without problems and created a new User. However, the disk is, of course, still full, so I'm right back where I started, except that I'm unable to access my main user account that actually has all my stuff on it. I searched online and haven't been able to find anything similar to my situation. Please give me any suggestions you might have, I'm in Indonesia at the moment and have nowhere I can take it for help, but still need to work! I'm not very tech savvy (obviously), so please try to be specific! I've run the disk utility "Verify Disk" thing but it says everything's ok. I downloaded omnidisksweeper again onto the new user I created with the limited space I have available, but don't really understand what anything on it means! It says that most of the space is taken up as follows: 9.5GB private, 4.5 GB applications, 3.7 GB system, 3.6 GB library.
    Is there anything  specific I should be looking for? Is there anything I can do to get my original user account to work?

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    If you don't remember the password, you have to reset it. As you have a new MacBook, you are using OS X Mountain Lion, so follow these steps > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101

  • I fixed the Flash Player Problem...Here's How

    Okay, this worked for me.  Whether it will work for you, I hope so.  Thanks to Duelly Noted for much of the work, and dumb luck for the rest.
    First, you need 3 user accounts for windows.  When you open the start menu, on the top is the username and the icon you use.  Click on the icon, and it will go to manage accounts.  Now, make sure your account is set to administrator. Create 2 new accounts, and make sure BOTH are set as administrators, not users!!!
    Now to make it simple, I am going to use letters to name the accounts.
    A-Your main account, with the Flash Problem
    B- A second account
    C-The account you want to use as your new one
    You need to download the Flash installer, on both A and C.  Here is the link:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
    While you are logged into A and C, you must install on both accounts.  Install to desktop.
    In account A, download and install the uninstaller.  uninstall flash player with the uninstaller above.  DO NOT UNINSTALL through WINDOWS PROGRAMS! Run whatever you use to clean your account, Disk Cleanup, etc.  Restart your computer.  Log out of the account.   Log into account B, it takes a moment to set the desktop.  Then log out.  Log into account C, and uninstall Flash Player from there.  With the uninstaller!!! Now clean that account too.  Restart again.  Log out of C.  Restarting helps clean the old files out. Log back into B, and transfer all your files from A to C.  Then log back into B.  Here's how:
    Click the start Menu, click computer, then click your C: drive. click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.  Locate the user account for A,  where C is the drive on which Windows  is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.  Highlight each  file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files:     * Ntuser.dat     * Ntuser.dat.log     * Ntuser.ini.  On the Edit menu, click Copy. # Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the user profile that you created in the "Create a New User Profile" section. # On the Edit menu, click Paste.  Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user. Note You must import your e-mail messages and addresses to the new user profile before you delete the old profile. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 313055  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313055/ ) Mail folders, address book, and e-mail messages are missing after you upgrade to Microsoft Windows .
    Now log on C.  Then make sure EVERYTHING transferred.  It worked on mine, but as far as Outlook, or Mail, your contacts should be imported, and hopefully your messages, too.  Then unless you are prompted to log in there, you will have to reset your settings.  If you don't know how, contact your service provider for your internet.
    If everything is transferred fine, then make sure A and B are logged off.  But first make sure all your files and accounts are working.  Since C is administrator, simply delete A and B.  Then you are left with C, and a destination for a working Flash.  At this point, clean and defrag your drive.
    Then install flash on C.  What I figure is the Flash Problem might be code, and if you have Flash on A and C, whatever problem transfers with your files.  Without 2 Flashes to go to, it just gets lost.
    This worked great for me, I hope it works for you too.  I pray that I didn't miss a step, but as far as physical computer problems, I am great.  With software, I am still learning.  But between what I have been suggested to do, and a little bit of conjecture, I now have Flash.
    P.S.  Adobe support is WORTHLESS on this!  I contacted them, and they told me they couldn't help me without registering my product.  But you can't since Flash is a free program and there is not serial number, which is the first step to register a program.  Then, they followed up with 3 responses asking if my problem had been solved, or to contact them.  BUT you just said you couldn't help me unless I registered.  Then they considered my problem closed and that was that.  I replied with exactly what they said to me, and reopened the case.  You know, just for the heck of it.  Then, HA HA, they sent me a survey asking how the help went for me.  Oh, I enjoyed that survey indeed.

    I apologize for that.  Here is the problem I was having:
    With two particular sites, espn.com and ign.com, though I have heard it happened on many other sites as well.  On these sites, the flash content for backgrounds, advertisements, everything else would run fine.  The issue was with the video content.  On ESPN.COM, if I wanted to watch a larger video the length of the screen, when I loaded it the screen would freeze on a still image, and the sound would play but not the video.  On the still image, a white play arrow would be static with a white circle around it.  If I called up the Flash settings menu, it would be inoperative, frozen, and you could not close it.  On smaller videos, the box would stay black with no picture, no sound.  If I called up the Flash menu, same thing would happen, frozen.  On IGN.COM, pretty much the same thing.  Other Flash content would load fine, but not videos.  On the link to a video, a Flash advertisement next to the video box would play, but not the video.  Occasionally, an ad would play in the video screen fine, but no requested video.  All black, with a frozen Flash settings menu.  That's pretty much it, sorry for leaving that out.  But on every other site I visited with video (ie. Youtube, gamespot, etc.) everything would run fine.  But the two in question are a couple of the sites I visit most, so I was on a mission to fix it.

  • How to read serial number of adobe air runtime / flash plugin

    Hi
    Question:
    Is there a way of extracting a unique serial number (or assembly number) from the air runtime and the flash player.
    Background:
    I asked this question on Experts Exchange and the consensus was that it's not possible. However, I thought I would try here before I gave up.
    I am using flash remoting and I want to pair a user's subscription with a specific flash player or adobe air runtime. The flash application would interrogate the flash player and send it back to a database using remoting. If the serial number was correct then the user would get access. If not they would be rejected. The same would happen with an Air application but the serial number would be pushed instead of pulled.
    Mplord of EE introduced me to the Capabilities class (Flash) and the NativeApplication.nativeApplication class and method (Air). However, it's not really what I was looking for. In c# and vb.NET it's possible to extract the windows serial number from the OS and I'm looking for a similar function in as3.
    If this was possible it would be a fantastic way to protect your content and it would be really easy for Adobe to build this feature in.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kind Regards

    Sorry, but you are at the wrong forum; this one is only for discussions on the forums themselves. The Air forums are here:
