Flash as Webcam Community?
Since I can't seem to find the answer anywhere (or maybe I'm asking it incorrectly?) I'll try it here, and thanks in advance for your input. =)
I run a small webcam community, in which people download my proprietary software (WebcamX or SpyCast Webcam Studio) to create their own webcam site on my server. The software sends still images to the server in xx second intervals. Anyway, both programs, written in Visual Basic, are sluggish and buggish, despite my best efforts. Since I discovered Flash can be used to capture video straight from the browser and send it to (any?) server, I started wondering if I could use that to send stills to the website, instead of downloaded/installed software.
Does this sound possible? To make Flash take a snapshot every x seconds and send it to the server, by using the http post method (my current method) or perhaps install something server-side, to accept the image? It sounds like a longshot, and it's likely to be complicated, but if it is, all I'm out is 5 minutes of my time typing this post. =)

Hi Murray
See - http://www.pziecina.com/test_ideas/swfbg_test.html.
You will have to resize your browser slightly to see the effect, (1px will do).
I have not included the javascript to resize the flash background, nor the actionscript for the maintaining of the aspect ration, (did this in a personal trial project so it does work, see para below).
If you look at the html code you will no doubt recognize the div hack for such things, but now we have animated svg's that can be used as backgrounds and resizeable static background images I decided to abandon the idea, was never really an option in my honest opinion though, for the reasons previously stated.
PZ
Forgot to add Murray - the original swf was 320pxx350px, and I did not up-size this so please ignore the quality.

Can't load flash based webcam since 10.6.5 update
since updating today, my webcam is no longer detected on any flash based webcam site (i.e. tinychat, meebo, etc). I have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of the Adobe Flash plug-in, I have adjusted and checked all the proper settings in the Global Settings window for Flash. I've called Apple, they said call Adobe. I called Adobe, they said call Apple. You get the picture. Any ideas?
Several users are currently finding problems with Flash based video web sites, perhaps due to timing differences in the various update cycles of the developers.
Therefore, check all third-party items like Flip4Mac, Safari "Extensions", web-based chat items, social web site "toolbars", etc., to be sure you are using the latest versions compatible with your system. Uninstall any with known issues pending their next update.
If you are still having problems, here are some things you can try. Depending on system configuration and installed third-party items, various users have reported different methods of restoring Flash video website functionality. Which might work for you seems to be a matter of what you have added to your system, so keep trying any relevant to your system until you find the one that might work for you.
(1) For those who have installed Google plugins, user OysterOyster reports that uninstalling them restores proper iSight function with Flash and Mac OS X 10.6.5.
If Google is your problem, the GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app should be in your hard drive's Library/Application Support/Google/ folder. (not your *Home > Library* folder)
Several users confirm that using the Google uninstaller works to restore Flash video functions.
Some other users, including those who do not use the Google plugins, have found other remedies.
(2) User joew13 reports that installing the 64-bit Flash plug-in beta for Mac OS X (DMG, 8.7 MB) fixed Flash sites for him.
This link allows download of the 64-bit plugin beta from an official Adobe page:
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
or, to download the beta directly, click this link--> http://tinyurl.com/2frejs4
Several other users have confirmed success after the beta update.
(3) User imagerle downgraded Flash to version 10,0,45,2 to restore Flash video.
If this older version is not available on a backup or an old install disk, it can be downloaded from Adobe's Archived Flash Players page:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html
(4) User sirjoe82 and others have reported that uninstalling Flip4Mac restored their Flash video website functions.

Mein aktuelles System:
Windows 7 Home 64bit
Internet Explorer 9 in 32bit
Firefox 10
Google Chrome 16
kaspersky 2012
Logitech HD webcam c910
Many Cam Software ...die neuste version
Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.55
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
VDSL 50.000 von der Telekom
8 gb arbeitsspeicher
Was ich bereits versuchte:
- Zugriffs Berechtigungen in der windows Registrierung überprüft..alles ok dort ..also wieder ohne Erfolg

Need info on Flash to Hardware Communication via TCP/IP
Need someone to throw light on how to talk to hardware
devices from flash. For instance a message needs to be sent to
mobile on click of a button, looks complex but this just an
example. would like to just the method that one needs to follow to
achive the requrement.Go Straight for RMI. Load file contents into a buffer. Serialize it as an object and pass it from client to servant. You don't have to deal with TCP-IP or sockets plus you can operate at a much higher level.
Look at an RMI tutorial. -
Hi everyone.
Project
I’m helping develop in Flash CS3 an online soft skills
training that involves students viewing a short video than
answering a multiple choice question. After viewing several videos
and answering the related questions the student is given on
overview of how they did in a test summary page.
Delivery
Plan is to have each video and questions in a single Flash
file embedded in an html file. The end test summary page will be
delivered in html.
Question
What I’d like to know is how can I get the flash
video/question pages to communicate the test results to the end
summary page.
I’m not much good at actionscripting, therefore any
help would be much appreciated.
Also, is there anyway of converting a swf file back to a
flash file, (fla)?
Thanks.
Michaelyou'll need to create a dynamic html page if you're
presenting a page that will use data from flash in its display.
flash can't do that.
flash can communicate with server-side programs that can
create your html page.
converting swfs to flas can be done by de-compiling the swfs.
there are several commercial decompilers. i don't know if any of
them can handle as3, though. -
Flash and Javascript communication
Dear All
I am creating a CD version course where passing data from
Flash to html. Because of Flash player 8 security reason, a popup
is flashing. To avoid that I have tried to write a .CFG file in
system32, but that is not possible on user's machine.
Is there any other solution to aviod that Flash 8 security
popup?
Thanks and Regards
ShaileshIf you use player 9 you can set the value. Here's more

Flash to Captivate Communication
Is it possible to pass a Show command back to Captivate from Flash? I have tried only to get a syntax error in Flash. What I am trying to do is only allow a Next button to become visible after an activity has been completed in an embedded Flash file. I have passed a variable back to Captivate indicating completion.
Hi there,
I've tried using the revised code with no luck,
If I could briefyl explain what I'm trying to achieve and the porblems that are occuring.
I've been asked to create some Question slides, that have additional buttons. I know this isn't possible in Captivate as Question Sldies are "unique". My first thought was to create an SWF with these buttons, the buttons are to hide/show small animations and pictures relating to the question. However it appears that an animation inserted onto a question slidee will always appear below the Question Objects (question text, answers text, submit buttons, feedback etc)? Is this the case or is there a way round this?
So I decided to create a button in flash that redirectes the user to another screen where they can view the images/animations. The code on the button is as follows
import flash.events.*;
import flash.display.*;
var myRoot:MovieClip=MovieClip(root);
var mainmov:MovieClip=MovieClip(myRoot.parent.root);
ff_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseReleaseSlide1Btn);
function mouseReleaseSlide1Btn(event:Event):void {
mainmov.rdcmndGotoSlide = 4;
return;
adding the revised line for CP5 as you suggested seems to brig this error in Flash:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::Stage@10e57b51 to flash.display.MovieClip.
at faultfinding_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
I'm using CP5 and Flash CS4 any help would be much appreciated! -
I have a AS 3.0 nav that i have embedded into
flex...ROLL_OVER on flash nav i want to execute one of the flex
functions while passing a variable to it....they are already
connected so there's no need for a localconnection....I've tried
strict typing one of the functions in flash as :MovieClip and
referencing that in flex but i just can't seem to get it....any
ideas anyone? Please help!!!
Thanks,
TomI'm not completely sure I understand. You wrote a navigation
control using Flash CS3/ActionScript 3 and now want to execute a
function on the rollOver?
Doesn't <cs3:YourNavigation rollOver="someFunction(event)"
... /> work? -
Does flash support webcam FPS more than 15?
Hi All,
I have developed a peer to peer video chat application and it's working fine but when, I am going to set camera FPS, I am able to set only less than 15 FPS not more than 15 FPS .
Code:
var cam:Camera=Camera.getCamera('0');
cam.setMode(320,240,14);
//In trace
trace(cam.fps);
it returns 14FPS but when, I set more than 15FPS like "cam.setMode(320,240,24);" then it also return only
15FPS not 24FPS
So, I would like to know about camera FPS setting more than 15.
Thanks
RamIf you are using AS3 there is a limit of 32 sound channels
that can be used. I don't know what is going on, but 16 buttons
times 2 (stereo, I'm guessing) is 32 and maybe it is causing the
channels to run out.
Without knowing how the Wimpy Buttons are coded there is
probably nothing that can be done other than use 15 or less. Other
than that make some kind of button yourself that avoids
this. -
Webcam/incoming video not working with flash 11
I use a chat room which uses adobe flash for webcams to video conference. I've used adobe flash for webcam purposes for years without an issue but all of a sudden my outgoing video/audio doesn't work and incoming audio/video is very choppy. My webcam freeze frames on the first image it sees, and incoming audio/video just skips like a broken CD. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling flash, uninstalling reinstall chrome, different browers...but the problem only exists in adobe flash. My webcam works fine in non-flash programs (i.e. Skype), as well as incoming audio/video. I believe this problem occured directly after the latest flash update. What can I do?
Specs:
2005 Dell Inspiron
OS: Windows XP
32 Bit
Browser: Chrome (but tried also firefox, IE and still didnt work)
Webcam: MS Lifecam VX-3000Here are the steps required to install the previous version
1. Uninstall Flash Player using the stand alone uninstaller using these instructions
2. Download the previous version of Flash Player here: Flash Player 11.1.102.63
Note: This downloads a .zip file that contains all of the different releases of Flash Player for that version (ie. Windows, Mac, etc.)
3. Extract the contents of this zip file
4. Depending on your operating system and browser, go into either the 64 or 32 bit folders (do not use the debug folder) then double click the following filename to start the installation:
Internet Explorer for Windows 7 64-bit: flashplayer11_1r102_63_winax_64bit.exe
Other browsers for Windows 7 64-bit: flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_64bit.exe
Internet Explorer for all Windows 32-bit systems: flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_32bit.exe
Other browsers for all Windows 32-bit systems: flashplayer11_1r102_63_winax_32bit.exe
Mac OSX: flashplayer11_1r102_64_mac.dmg -
Adobe AIR - is what I need for communication between C++ and Flash?
Hello,
We currently have a C++ desktop application running on Windows and Mac. We want to support web-enabled (launching from the web browser) and moving UI into Flash. I am looking for a communication package that can use with VC++ 6.0 and CodeWarrior 8.0 (Xcode later). This communication package will handle messages between C/C++ app (process) and Flash. The communication need to execute fast (no delay).
I searched online about this and came across LocalConnection class and Adobe AIR but not getting enough info to have an answer. I am hoping posting this message will get more information.
Thanks,
-ThanhThanks Kalisto for a kind offer. We are using old compilers, CodeWarrior 8.0 compiler on the Mac and VC++ 6.0 in Windows. It is nice if I can find a package that will work with both compilers (platforms). Since we want to communicate in realtime, AIR is probably a best option to go for Windows. I am still looking for the answer on the Mac side of how to communicate from C++ to Flash. I'll ask for your help on AIR when time come.
Again, thanks.

Flash Media / Communication Server
We're running Adobe Connect 6 in-house. It's my understanding
that Flash Media Server and Flash Communication Server are
installed on the same server and Connect relies on them to operate.
My question is: Are these the
full versions of Flash Media Server / Communication Server?
Can we use them for other applications? Or does our licensing limit
us to only use these for Connect? (I didn't see anything one way or
the other.) I called our Platinum support line for Connect and they
weren't sure. :)It has been two years since this thread has been touched.
Does the same hold true between Flash Communication Server
1.5 to Flash Media Server 3.5?
We have a training application running happily on 1.5 but
there is some desire here to move to 3.5. Need to know if we can
upgrade without breaking the older application (or update with
minimal chages - app is pretty basic). We could run 3.5 on a
different server but IT will want to decomission FCS 1.5 is
possible.
Thanks

How Can I Learn To Develop Flash Games For Under $50.00 USD?
I am completely new to anything Flash. I have never written a
single line of Actionscript. I don't know the difference between
Flash and Flex. I don't know in what forums Flash developers hang
out. I don't even know what kind of coffee they drink, or if they
drink tea instead.
However, I have developed games and have been thinking about
developing some casual games and have heard rumors that Adobe is
"pushing" causal game development with Actionscript 3 and their
latest releases. So I went to adobe.com expecting to see a link for
something like "learn how to develop games in flash" or some such.
I poked around the developer related pages and didn't find anything
I thought useful.
What I did find were plenty of stuff for *existing* flash
developers. Links to articles and HowTos for specific topics and
information about products that cost a minimum of several hundred
dollars. I can't learn how to develop games and create a prototype
with a 30-day trial, and I am not going to buy a $1000 pro-grade
tool when I am an indie developer without a budget or a pre-funded
project that would justify such expenditures.
I have seen some open source stuff, but don't know if it can
do anything more than build some annoying shaking banner ads.
So let me introduce myself as a possible use-case for Adobe
Marketing and the Flash (Game) Developer community.
I am an educated experience software developer who has a day
job doing "enterprise" software stuff. I want to *play* in my free
time (evenings and weekends) with "Flash Stuff" and learn enough to
be able to build a simple game that I can put on my personal
website and have my friends download. I am not a student, so I
can't get student discounts. The money I have goes toward
toys^H^H^H^H tools for my other coding habits^H^H^H^H^H projects. I
am not interested in 30-day trials, as I may go 45-days or more
between the first and second weekends I get to play with this. I
know OOP so I want to start out learning how to do the "advanced"
stuff from day one and not have to start with dragging and dropping
PNGs w/o any coding and then "relearn" how to do it in code so I
can do anything beyond having the image appear and rotate.
I *am* willing to put time into this endeavor, but only after
I have a few things spoon-fed to me by "advocates" who's job is to
get me "hooked" and willing to invest my time to go beyond Hello
World. At the same time I am download and playing with GarageGames,
TGE/TGB, Game Maker, Dark Basic, Blitz Basic, etc. and many
complete development environments that are full-featured and
completely free if I limit myself to releasing only freeware games,
or cost me less than $50 for the "professional" version with all
the bells and whistles.
I have heard rumors and rumblings about some open source
tools being available and Adobe maybe open sourcing some of their
previously pay-to-play tools, but also understand that Adobe can
probably provide a better "comprehensive" package of tools,
documentation, tutorials, and support, *if I can find the right
place to ask/start.*
And, most of all, I don't know where to start my search as I
have no personal contacts to bug about stuff like this.
So, where can I find the big red button to push and get
everything I want handed to me on a silver-platter.
[please understand I have written this with some attempt at
self-mocking humor and am not some clueless n00b]
Thank you for taking the time to read my lengthy posting. I
hope to find some helpful replies and start down an interesting
learning path.
--ChaimJust saw your post. Better late than never. You may want to
consider GameBrix.com, where you can create Flash based, casual
games using your web browser. No downloads are required. You can
create a game from scratch using a library of images, sounds and
game mechanics. You can also upload your own. The online script
editor will allow you to view and edit the ActionScripts associated
with each game mechanic. In short, a great way to ramp up on game
design and build your own game without investing a lot of $
upfront.
BTW I am associated with GameBrix so any feedback is
appreciated. -
Windows 8 freezes while I try to watch online Flash content and running Audition CS6
I recently bought a online introduction course to Auditon CS6 on Vimeo.com
While I have a setup where I put the lecture on one screen and the program on the other I like to follow tutorials and learn how to use software.
However this proves to be impossible for me in Audition, because for some reason my computer gets completely unresponsive after a little while of watching the lectures with Audition running.
It never happens when Audition hasn't been launched, and I'm kind of suspecting a driver conflict, but I don't have a fancy audio card in my computer, (just built in Realtek,) and find it a bit
odd that it wouldn't be supported as it is some of the most common audio setups around. As far as I know the system runs stable with Audition running and no Flash content started as well.
This has happened for the last couple of months and I've updated Flash and drivers as they roll out. Audition CS6 is downloaded with the Creative Cloud application Manager.
Here is some general info on my computer:
OS: Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.
Motherboard: eVGA x58 Classified (Tried with stock BIOS and also updated to new BIOS)
Audio Card: Realtek (on motherboard)
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti
The system storage device is a SSD (Firmware recently updated due to BSODs apearing, and seems to be resolved.)
I do believe that this might not be a Audition issue, but rather a issue with Flash. However Audition + Flash reproduces this problem faster than anything else I can remember this happening while
using other 3rd party software while playing Flash. (Not exactly the type of software.) I have a suspicion that it is something that occurs if Flash and other programs is paging/wiring/reading the SSD...
I can't remember this happening with Photoshop or other Adobe software, and so I'm also curious to how different Audition runs "under the hood" so to speak. What is it constantly checking
that could lead to a hardware conflict.A month ago I uninstalled AVG Internet security from my computer making it a lot less potent to BSODs in general, (can't reacall having any.) So today I thought I'd try to learn some more Audition. I could Sit with it for a good while just playing around with recordings and settings and my system didn't react weirdly at all. So the next step was of course to try and load some of the Udemy lectures I had waiting.
As the video was buffering I turned away from the computer for a while, but when I came back it had completely froze up again... I don't think I've ever had a BSOD in this context either, instead of going into BSOD the computer just stops responding completely.
(I'm using the latest version of Flash, tried with both Firefox and Chrome.)
I'm thinking this is a very niche bug and I can't seem to se that it can be anything but a conflict with Flash. Weither it's a memory leek or what ever it is.
I can use Audition fine on my computer it seems, as long as I never start a browser in risk of loading a Flash application, (which would be fine if I was avid, but I need some lectures to get started.)
Nothing really seems to be overloaded (RAM/CPU) before the freeze ocurs either.
I don't really know where or how to adress this to the Flash Player forum/community, (or if there is one.)
Thanks. -
