Flash Blurred layers

I am searching for someone who can give me direction or ideas
on how the flash effect was created on the home page of this web
site.
http://www.savvycd.com/
I would like to create the same blurred overlayed effect but,
haven't been able to figure out how the semi-transparent blurs were
created to slide over the background.
E-mail me direct

hi.
create a background movieclip(in say layer1),and drag the
same moviclip onto stage in different layer(layer2).
go to Filters and blur the second layer to desired level.Mask
this layer so that you can display a part of the second layer.

  • New to Flash - Imported layers contain contents of lower layers?

    Hello.
I have just started using flash, and know next to nothing about some of its functions, so I apologise if I appear to ask questions with obvious answers.
Anyway, I am attempting to add animation to a previously created layered image, which I am importing from a .psd. The image is structured so that different layers contain translucent masks for objects below - e.g., an upper layer might contain a purple tint gradient which is overlayed on the layers below. I can open up this image in photoshop and it behaves as you might expect, but I'm having difficulties importing the image into flash. When I do, for some reason, the layer contents are modified so that some layers contain not only the contents previously in the layer, but the contents of everything below it, as if that layer and all layers below have been merged down into that one layer. The lower layers are still present, but any modifications made to them are not visible as they are blocked by lower layers. This does not seem to be true for all layers -  only those that previously contained elements with an alpha value anywhere between 0 and 255 - i.e., the mask layers. This makes it impossible to achieve my goal, as I am attempting to animate the objects beneath the masks.
I'm not sure entirely why this is happening - it seems to be flash converting my layers in a very unintuitive manner. If anybody can help me figure out how to get around this, I would be very grateful. Possibly I could import each layer one at a time and re-arrange them in flash, but this would be very time consuming, especially considering that I may want to add animation to multiple similar files in the future. As such, if there is a way to get the layers to import correctly as arranged in the .psd, then this would be extremely useful.
    Thanks!
[moved from AS3 forum - not AS related]

What are you using to generate the PSD?
Flash's mask support is a bit tricky. In most versions of flash it works as an on/off switch. If a layer is marked as a mask layer, if there is ANY data (transparent or not, white or black or any color), it considers that you want to show that portion of the layers it masks. If there is no bitmap data of any kind in the area, it will NOT show that.
Pictures are much easier to explain. This behavior would be much different in Photoshop.
In Flash, say you start with a giant ugly stock rainbow square as the graphic you wish to mask:
Note in the timeline above I have a layer above named 'mask' and it's set to actually be a mask layer. In that layer I have this radial black/white gradient:
If I pasted that into the alpha channel of a layer in Photoshop it would gradient the pictures transparency based on the black/gray/white. In flash, it doesn't care about that. All it cares about is there "is" or "is not" data. Since there's data in a larger region than the image it is masking, it will show the whole rainbow square below it, unlike Photoshop:
    There's the output, mask applied.
Now if I actually cut a square of "bitmap data" out of the middle of the mask, Flash will dutifully clip that area so you can't see it. No data = can't see. So my new mask:
Now due to there being "missing data" in that rectangular area it will cut out that portion of the rainbow box:
Does this clarify a bit about the simplicity of masks?
To get masks to work a bit more like Photoshop there's a bit of a code workaround we've all used for quite a long time. You can read it in many links of you search for AS3 gradient mask. Take a look at the code samples to see how.

  • Flash Video / Layers

    Hey good people,
I'm running into a strange problem. I have a site built in
layers - there are rollovers buttones which show different bits of
work, the usual hide & show layer trick - nothing new there.
However I have added a Flash video file to a layer (which in the
layer panel is below the image ones) - However when checking the
site on Browsers Safari & IE the video layer file for some
reason jumps to the front and plays - rather than seeing the first
image layer. The video layer in DW is on the 5th hide & show
layer button - so shouldn't be the 1st thing you see when looking
at it in the browswer. The site works in Mozilla, Firefox and
Camino though. Any ideas anyone - this is a real head spinner..!!
For tech info I'm running DW2004 on OSX. I've check this on a
PC and the same thing happens.. any ideas??
Any help would be welcome as I hope to launch the site very
    soon.
    many thanks
    T

Don't confuse using layers to add interactivity (what you
    call using
Hide/Show), with using layers to layout the page. It's the
    latter approach
    that is not best practice.
If you need for something to appear when requested by the
    user, then
revealing a previously hidden layer is one perfectly
    acceptible way of doing
this. But by virtue of the use of layers at all, one is
    buying into the
unique qualities that layers have, some of which can wreck a
    carefully
crafted layout (even when only used in a Hide/Show mode). The
    point here is
that as with anything else, the magnificent convenience of
    layers extracts a
heavy price, one that you may not be prepared or willing to
    accept. If you
don't know about what that price is, then you will be in for
    some unpleasant
    surprises.
By the way, magazine tutorials are not necessarily the most
    authoritative
sources for 'best practice' tips. To be honest, most of those
    I have
learned, have been learned right here on the DW forum.....

  • Effects blurring layers

OK, so I didn't want to jack the "Blurs" thread started by Darrell Toland, but I have a similar problem...
I have two examples... Motion Problem 1 and Motion Problem 2. Just download the QT file and take a look...I don't have a website to post on, and FTPs change it to .flv and look like crap. Sorry.
Anyway, it's a map that zooms in to an area (Atlantic Ocean). Atlantic Ocean text has Volumetrix effect on it (glow). Problem is, the effect makes the text blurry and it doesn't move correctly with the rest of the zoom. You can see that in Motion Problem 1. With Motion Problem 2, I split the text at the point where the glow starts (making it two layers) and put the effect on the second layer. So it goes from looking good to jumping and getting blurry right when it gets to the layer with the effect.
I keep thinking back to specialcase's render pipeline comments about applying effects to top (parent) layers that have been nested rather than individual layers, but that wouldn't work here.
Any suggestions how to keep the text from blurring when an effect is applied? Thanks.

Thanks, Peter. I don't know why I didn't just post this on your forum...since you developed the effect! I've got it bookmarked and all. I'll mess with the fixed layer stuff. But what about the effect making the text blurry, or "soft." You can see that in Problem 2...where it goes from crisp (no effect) to blurry (just as the effect starts) or in Problem 1, where the "Atlantic Ocean" text is softer than the rest since it has the effect applied.

  • Flash Blur Filter Crash

    Hiya,
I keep having the problem of Flash crashing in a very bad way
(leaving the Flash.exe process running in memory, with one option
left - close it from the task manager) when i apply a blur filter
with whatever settings to an object and test the movie repeatedly
or scroll through the timeline back and forth a couple times.
Happens on various machines, different configurations and OSes
spanning from XP SP2 to VISTA ULTIMATE 64 bit. Please, help me out,
i had to skip on blur filter all the way to avoid these odd
    crashes.

Im gonna desperately try to bump it, since the problem is persistent on different machines/setups and no solution is available...

  • Weird lines showing up on Flash Blur

a bunch of lines (sometimes just a few) will move over my
animation where i have a blur effect
    View sample
    JPG snapshot

I have not had this issue so far but the next time it happens try documenting it by taking a picture of it (or doing a screen shot of it if you both aren't together when it happens so the unaffected iPhone can take the picture)...just in case you can't easily replicate the issue on demand. Then I would contact Apple (if you can go to an Apple store that would be even better) and let them check it out. It could be software issue or a hardware issue....but if they can see it then they may have some answers...and would know if you really need the devices replaced or if it's something an update will have to address.

  • Blur layering problem

    Hello,
I've been doing some work on a project very similar to andrew kramer from videocopilot(54. Advanced Camera Tips) from his site. The problem shows up after I render the project. I put use the camera's depth of field to make some nice looks for the trapcode particular particles, and use some 3d simple text to be animated. After I render instead of showing only the particles blured out, the text and video or everything I put there shows up blury, I know it's because of the camera but why? Shouldn't the text be unaffected by the depth of field, or videos? Please help! This is what happen's.

The text should definitely be affected by the blur. It's a 3d layer. If you follow the tutorial, I think he shows you how to keep the text from being blurred. I don't like it though. It's one of a few times when I disagree with Andrew Kramer. I think that having everything reacting to the camera's depth of field helps to sell the effect that what you're looking at is 3d. Just animate the focal distance of the camera to bring the text into focus. If the background isn't blurred enough when you do that, work with the camera settings to get a shallower depth of field.

  • Missing content exporting from InDesign CC 2014 to Flash Pro CC 2014

    Dear all,
to produce a larger number of similar animated swf's, I wanted to create all necessary text and graphic layers in InDesign CC 2014, then export as *.fla to Flash Pro CC 2014 for "bulk" animation.
Finally it should then just be a case of selecting the correct layers and publishing.
The problem: When exporting from InDesign to Flash, all layers are recognized but initially apart from the text layers they were shown as empty items without the content.
Rescaling the placed images in InDesign to be no larger than the final document helped to now also have the images when opening the exported *.fla in Flash.
I am still missing all other InDesign objects though, e.g. even a simple colored rectangular will not show in Flash.
Any help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Searching for it only brought up a couple of tutorials that do not seem to have this issue.
    Best regards
    Christopher

I think that it's just a bug in InDesign. It happens with CS6 as well.

  • Is this possible? with flash+xhtml

Hello, I have a really super-noob question, thanks in advance
for helping! If I have a web site set up in xhtml/css, can I
superinpose a flying flash object that travels throughout the page
or would I have to rebuild the site in Flash? If it's possible,
what terminology would I use to look up more specific info on how
    to go about doing this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Noelbaland,
    Thanks for answering
I read the article but I'm not sure if inserting the
flash object with transparency allows me to span across columns or
if it's confined to the space where it's embedded. In this case is
the flash movie layered over the html page?
    Thanks

  • Premiere seems to "unflatten" certain layers after importing from Photoshop

    Hi all
I have a layered PSD that I've imported in to Premiere so I can add video transitions to each layer. In Photoshop, I used the smudge and the motion blur filter on a few of the layers and then flattened those specific layers. I then brought the full PSD (with the flattened smudge/blur layers) in to Premiere and laid everything out on the timeline. It looks nice on the program monitor after I render, however, when I export the video as an MP4 (I haven't tried other formats), it appears that the smudge/blur layers became "unflattened" and it seems that the masks from Photoshop reappeared and the hidden pixels for the blur/smudge that were supposed to be "deleted" were back ! I wish I could provide a sample here, but it's a client project and I can't post it for public view.
Any thoughts? Anyone see this issue before?

I figured out my problem. I had to uncheck the "Maximum quality output" setting or something like that in the export dialogue box.

  • Using variable across layers

    Hi
I am trying to use a file name which is in a variable in one
    layer into another layer.
How can i do this . When I use the variable name as it is in
layer 1 i get this error
    **Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=content, frame=1:Line 4: ')'
    or ','

can you post your code? Variables as far as i know are not
effected by layers. You should be having no problem, so i think
there is another problem besides it beeing on a seperate layer...
EDIT: Unless are you talking about flash movie layers? or
layers you load movies into :P..lol i just realized that i think i
    misunderstood your question. lol

  • Export InDesign to flash, Hyperlinks issue

I am exporting an InDesign document with hyperlinks to a flash document to palce on the internet. With flash document on the internet if you click on a hyperlink a new tab opens up. Can I amke the hyperlink work so that clicking on the link does not open up a new tab or window, but changes teh page within the current tab/window?

Update: Reinstalled flash. Layers with content are now visable but  animations do not indicate path of item plus the code that enabled the swf file to function properly does not appear to have made the trip during export to the .fla file. That doesn't seem right. What would be the sense of enabling InDesign to export flash files if they are crippled in the process? There does not seem to be any time savings using InDesign if most of the work has to be redone in flash. Are we missing something? Any input is welcomed.

  • Non destructive blur

Is there a functionality to apply a kind of  adjustment layer style type which can blur layers.
    any suggestions?
    thanks
    jeff

Yes, it's called using the Blur of your choice as a Smart Filter.  There can be some performance issues with stacking Smart Filters, but they will do what you want.
Start by choosing Filter - Convert for Smart Filters.
Look up Smart Filter in the Photoshop Help facility.

  • Why does Bridge CS6 destroy my SWF files after inputting Meta Data?

I save a swf file to my hard drive.  Then I open Bridge, select the swf file, and type some Meta Data into the panel on the right.  As soon as the data saves and the preview window refreshes, the preview renders completely white (Bridge can no longer preview it).  If I open the file in Flash, some layers and text are now missing.
It seems that the act of writing meta-data to the swf file actually destroys portions of the file, and I have to go back to the original and re-export.
We have reproduced this problem on both Mac & PC, on swf files of varying compression & XMP settings.  It is fairly consistent.
Has anyone run into this and if so does anyone have any suggestions?

Not a expert on swf files, but this article says you can not use Bridge to add metadata to SWF files.  So maybe that is why you are running into problems.  http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/190/862442
