Flash Builder uses 7Go RAM

Hi,
I'm using Flash Builder since Flash Builder Burrito, and I have Flash builder 4.7 Premium version today (with apache Flex and the last AIR SDK).
I've modified the FlashBuilder.ini, it is like this: with XMx8192m
-nl
fr_FR
-startup
eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.2.0.v20110502.jar
--launcher.library
eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.100.v20110502
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vmargs
-Xms512m
-Xmx8192m
-XX:MaxPermSize=256m
-XX:PermSize=64m
-Dorg.eclipse.equinox.p2.reconciler.dropins.directory=eclipse/dropins
-Declipse.application=com.adobe.flexbuilder.standalone.FlashBuilderApplication
We started with new mobile project, and the project has grown. Today, our team has difficulties to work with Flash Builder:
- have to divide 'big' library into multiple little libraries
- open a class can makes 30 second to open
- compile the project with all libraries opened is simply impossible,
- simply use Flash builder to work get around 8Go of RAM very quickly (need to reboot Flash builder every 30 minutes)
Adobe, how my team can works with Flash Builder ?
We are very impacted with Flash builder, we can't work normally, it's a big problem fos us today, and we don't have a new version planned ?

i only have 4 small tutorial projects.  the projects are small, one is simply a hello world project.  the projects are based on the flash builder in a week projects.  the projects are very small; only minor tutorial projects.
any thoughts on how i can tweak flashbuilder to run faster.  I dont have any other programs that run this slow.

Just installed Android 4.3 and now I can't export from Flash Builder to my Android device. Also some of my previously installed Flex apps will not run. Anyone else seeing this? Any clues or answers???

It seems as though, there might be another bug with AIR and Android 4.3

When deployed on the device (Galaxy Nexus) 160 dpi is always fired, rather than 240.
    Anyone else come across this?

  • Adobe Flash Builder - using EncryptionKeyGenerator

    Hi there!
I'm desperately trying to create a simple app that would generate Encryption key using standard adobe.air.crypto package for my SQLite database file.

Should I manually connect as3lib to my app? How?
I am a newbie to Flash Builder.
Maybe someone could compile this example app so that I could use the result?
    Thank you in advance!

The crypto libraries work ok on the desktop but don't work in Android because some classes like MD5 for example don't run on the mobile version. I had the same problem running a SWF a webview. It used the MD5 and SHA1 classes that don't work in Flash Lite or even Flash Player 11 for Android.
You could try posting what you need to encrypt to a server and use the response. I suggest you use a PHP-specific encryption library. If you really really want to use the crypto library. You could publish a SWF file that does the encoding then saves the output to a web server file then have your app read that file but it's slow.

  • How do I make Flash Builder use cuddled bracing?

    Hi
Over the weekend I signed up to Creative Cloud on a 12 month subscription. My IDE of choice for around 7 years now has been FlashDevelop but since Flash Builder is one of the available applications on Creative Cloud I decided to download it and give it a try.
Upon opening the application, much to my horror I discovered that by default it uses next line bracing - a style I just do not like. No problem, I thought, I will just change the preferences to use cuddled bracing which is something every IDE on earth lets you do.
So it turns out there's no easy option in Flash Builder to do that. No tick-box, no drop-down. What you have instead is a bunch of templates that you can manually change to look the way you want.
The problem is, I've changed every ActionScript template and every file template to use cuddled bracing and yet when I create a new ActionScript project the damn thing STILL has next line bracing in the constructor. Just what does this application want from me?
Right now this is a deal-breaker for me and until this is fixed I won't even start a project using Flash Builder. Could someone please tell me what you have to do to get cuddled bracing enabled throughout?
    Thanks

Hey man this plugin is great - thanks for the tip! I have it formatting my classes on save and it does an excellent job.
I still think Adobe should get their finger out and make it possible to control all this from inside Flash Builder though, since new classes are still formatted in a stupid manner until I make a change and hit save. If a freeware editor like FlashDevelop can do it, why can't a £500 editor?

  • What Runtime is Flash Builder using when running or debugging an AIR application?

I just updated my AIR runtime to 3.0 and noticed that my AIR application doesn't work anymore (my logfile reports an Uncaught Error #1508). So I tried to debug it with Flash Builder, but when I run it there, everything works just fine. So I uninstalled the AIR runtime completely but noticed that I can execute my AIR app within Flash Builder still just fine. So the AIR runtime used within Flash Builder seems to be a different one than the systemwide installed AIR runtime. How Do I chose within Flash Builder which runtime to use and how do I update this runtime?

When you use Flash Builder, it uses the copy of the AIR SDK that is inside the Flex SDK. This has a complete AIR runtime that is used for debugging. You can choose which AIR runtime to use by switching to a Flex SDK that has a different version of AIR. You can update any Flex SDK by copying the new AIR SDK into it, replacing any existing AIR files. (On a Mac there are some gotcha's here because copied folders are replaced not combined.)

  • What's the difference between these to Adobe Air SKD folder locations in flash Builder 4.7?

So I can drop AIR SDKs inside the Adobe Flash Builde 4.7 (64 Bit)/sdks folder (under 4.6.0) - as per instructions in the Starling adobe.tv tutorials, or, as per the Adobe labs docs, place them in eclipse/plugins/com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722/AIRSDK
Which is right? What's the difference? Should I do both to hedge my bets?
Thanks in advance for un-confusing me!

As far as I know, Flash Builder uses the Flex SDK to compile applications.
I do know that updating to certain versions of the AIR SDK (i.e. from 3.4 to 3.8), I had to copy the AIR SDK + compiler into the 'AIRSDK' folder, instead of just the AIR SDK like the download page says.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Flash Builder will not debug app with .ane on Android Device

    Hello ,
I'm having a big issue with the overall stability of Flash Builder 4.7 on my Mac (OS X 10.7.5)
I developped an extension on FB 4.6 for iOS and Android and it was  working good. In the meantime I updated to 4.7, and since then I keep on running in to lots of problems when debuggin or compiling.
Now my extension needs to be extended, and suddenly the complete project stopped, because debugger refuses working on android devices.
    The error I get is:
An internal error occurred during: "Launching MyAppWithExtension".

    What I tried so far:
    - Creating new workspace
    - Running Flash Builder with -clean parameter at startup
    - Reinistalling Flash Builder using Adobe Clean Tool
    - Stripping all metadata from the project (keeping only the source files) and make a complete new project setup.
    All to no avail.
There's a good chance, I have a problem in my .ane code, but how am I supposed to find out, if debugger isn't working?
BTW, I can make an release build of the project, but it hangs after the splash screen. I don't know, if it's a build or coding error, though.
Ironically, I convinced my my employer to update FB to 4.7 due to the advanced iOS debugging features, but now I already spent about 10 times more working hours in finding workarounds to debugging / compiling issues than these features will ever be able to save me.
Maybe anybody here has an idea on how to solve this issue ?

Ok, this is an old post but i still needed a couple of hours to find a solution, so here we go:
    - Most likely you have TWO executable build targets in your project (two mxml that you can launch). If so, go to the Project settings > Flex Applications and remove the one you don't need so you only have one.
    - My case was a bit complex though - i was using an ANE and Coldfucion server. In this case change the Output folder in the Project Properties > Flex Server > Output folder to something like "temp" instead of "C:..." generated by Flex Builder. The Android device gets confused by a "C:" reference but still can understand a local "temp" folder
I hope i have saved your day

  • Flash builder 4.7 as plugin won't display asdoc

    Hi,
on windows 7 x64, I just installed Flash Builder 4.7 x64 on my existing eclipse 4.2 x64 (using "the Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Utility") and the asdoc popup won't display anything but the current element. If I start the standalone Flash Builder, using the same workspace and same project, it works fine. Do I need to configure something else so it works as a plugin?

    My mistake...
There was a typo into the XML application descriptor, that prevented the app to install properly on the device.
Precisely, it wasn't a typo but raher a malformed <intent-filter> node. I launched adb tool from the console with adb install MyApp.apk command, and I saw this : Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_MANIFEST_MALFORMED] in the terminal. From here it was easy to find the culprit.
What would be cool is to have this feature inside the Flash Builder's Console panel.

  • Flash Builder 4.5 - Flex (source code automatically changed after existing project import)

    Hi all!
Til yesterday, i was using FB v4.0 and it was perfectly working.
But now I'm under 4.5 and i have problem when importing my existing projects.
Now let me introduce the matter:
The entire project solution is located on my Desktop.
So, to import this, i go in FB in File>Import Project
Then i select "Project Repository" option and "Browse" button, then select the project on Desktop...
So.... import complete and SEEM TO BE successful
Unfortunately, from the IDE, when i double click on each source files, the code inside is not the expected one.
In fact, it looks as an older version of my code.
    Then, i exit totally FB4.5...
... and open my source files with a simple text editor, i can see that the original code (before import) has been changed by FB4.5...
    So, why???
    for example, this original code:
    * This is a generated class and is not intended for modification.  To customize behavior

    Well well,
I got some news about this problem....
Look like Flash Builder uses a ".FML" file to reference URL of all WebServices used in the project.
When replacements occurs, the updated values seem coming from this.

  • Flash Professional as3, Flash Builder as3 or Flash Builder mxml?

So there is no doubt that Flash Builder with mxml is amazing. I Built my app in 2 months and it is amazing. The problem is that my app is way too slow and it not only freezes but freezes the whole phone and you have to take out the battery.
Now I built a test app with Flash Professional, that of course isn't yet as complicated as the Flash Builder app, which performs at the same speed as native apps. It never crashes and is just amazing.
I am wondering which direction to go. Which IDE to choose? Flash Pro or Flash Builder?
I agree Flash Builder is better in every way during the development process, but in the end... does all that matter? does it not all come down to how well the app performs for the end user?
From my website development experience I noticed that Flex websites are slow and crash web browsers. On the other hand Flash Professional apps never crash the web browser and run perfectly smooth.
I have only found two quality adobe air apps on the market and I 99% gaurantee they were both developed with Flash Professional.
Does anyone have an example of an app they know was developed with Flash Builder using mxml and which runs smooth and never crashes?

Speaking as a developer who has built and worked on a number of large-scale apps for long-term clients; you would need to shoot me and prise the Flex framework from my cold, dead hands before I would give it all up in favour of the huge limitations of a pure AS implementation.
Yes, it is possible to build bad, slow, heavy Flex AIR apps. Yes, it is possible to build faster, slicker, lighter pure AS apps.
    But...
Once an app is out there, you need to maintain it.
    And...
If you build the thing properly in the first place, performance will be comparable or better using the well-defined systems and frameworks of Flex / AIR.
    Or rather...
There are things that it is better to build your own controls for than to use Flex's ones, but those things are so few and far between, and so obvious after just a little bit of performance testing, that it is almost always going to be preferable to build using Flex default and then to replace the problem items _and_only_ the problem items with home-cooked controls that _are_integrated_ with the existing Flex framework.

I understand this is due to all the links point online HTTP urls.
But why cannot the local help content be accessed when it is already downloaded to local and the 'Display local content only' option is set to Yes?
This saves me a lot ot time otherwise using Adobe Community Help is painful even for a short period of time.
    Thanks,
    Ram Manoj Kongara.

    Hi, Ram -
To help troubleshoot your problem, can you please do the following:
In the Adobe Community Help application, go to Edit > Preferences.
    Select Local Content.
The list of Help packages downloaded locally appear. Make sure that the status of every Help packages reads “Current”. If the status of a Help package reads  "Out-of-Date”, select that Help package, and click Update to download the latest Help package. Note that to do this, you have to be connected to the Internet. Once you fully download the Help packages to your desktop, you can access Help offline.
One other thing that I would want you to check is the Adobe Community Help Client version that you are using. To check that, in the Adobe Community Help application, go to File > About Adobe Help. The build version should be 3.2.0.610.
Let me know if this helps. If the issue still persists, we can investigate further.
    Thanks,

  • How do I use Embed with an environment variable in an Actionscript AIR project Flash Builder 4.7

I am using Flash Builder 4.7 to build an Actionscript AIR project.  The project embeds a number of png files from my local directory and I have been using absolute paths which all works fine.
I have a laptop with which I want to start developing the same project - I set up a git repository that both the laptop and main pc can pull from and so I can get the source where I need it and push it back to the central repository.
My problem is that the absolute paths for the embed commands don't work on the laptop as it has a different filesystem setup (Windows 8 with one drive as opposed to Windows 7 with a SSD and a data drive).  I thought the solution would be as easy as using an environment variable to specify the path which could then point to a different physical directory on both machines, i.e:
    [Embed(source = "DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]
I did a bit of research and there was quite a lot mentioned about setting up resource directories using path variables which I worked through but I just can't get it to compile.  The Actionscript compiler just won't find the png files however I specify the path.  I tried something with a FLEX project and the compiler didn't complain but I think this is because the compiler for FLEX uses a different convention.
[Embed(source ="/Project Name/DEVELOPER_RESOURCES/graphics/are/here.png"]  works with FLEX but not Actionscript.
So does anyone have a recipe for using the Embed command referencing assets using an environment variable that works across multiple machines with different file structures?

I managed to find a solution on Windows which was to use symlinks and absolute paths.  You an basically point one directory to another so I did something like:
    mklink c:\developer_resources c:/the/local/path/to/my/resources
and then reference all resources as c:\developer_resources\...
Now as long as a developer machine has the right link (from c:\developer_resources to the place where the resources are kept) then it seems to work.
This doesn't however work for Mac and certainly isn't a solution for passing files between Mac and windows
