Flash catalyst issues ??preloader??

hi guys i'm making a banner and what i have done is i have made two flash banners that can be changed by pressing two different buttons in flash catalyst but i get an error saying it cannot export because of an error in the code. i found the code error and it's saying "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method sWFController_clickHandler." i'm thinking i need a pre-loader but i don't know how to add one to my banner in flash catalyst. any one able to help?

Flash movies stream down and finish "loading" when the first frame and content that loads on the first frame is available, though frame 1001 might not be downloaded yet. You would think you'd be kinda safe with frame 2 on a T1, but I think the issue is things aren't updating in the right order  rather than things not really being downloaded. Heck, it could even just be the T1 simulation that's causing problems.
Debug Movie probably isn't showing issues because it slows the timing enough to make everything ok. You could try trace statements too to see how far the code gets.
Also, you might try a full scale AS3 loader like this one http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorials/flash/as3loader/
I've found the Event.COMPLETE listener for the loader like this:
my_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, finishLoading);
to be pretty accurate so far in regards to content truly being loaded where as previous methods gave false positives for loading.

I use extended font in photoshop. When I imported the .psd file into flash catalyst.

  • Flash Catalyst, Flash Builder and Adobe Air....Issues...

    My problem is simple.
I have a flash catalyst project I importedc it into flash builder - whats the issue? its a web app. I need it as a air app. I don't know how to change it from a web app to an air app.
    Also:
If I publish the "demo" version in Flash cat as a air app and install it, I have to resize the window? even when I set the bounds to be 800x600 it shows up on the desktop as either half that or sligtly larger. even running the swf - publishing for both web and air for testing - i have to resize the swf (unless its embeded on a page). why is this happening?
Tha main purpose here is to change the imported flas cat proj into a air app in flash builder so i can change the default chrome.
    Thanks.

I finally find what the problem was. It has nothing to do with either the server, neither Flash Player or Adobe Air.
The problem came from mstc window (remote desktop software). By default it was set to display 16bit colors. I might have changed it sometime to 15bit.
By setting it to 16bit, it solved the problem.

  • Unable to run project: illegal character in path - Flash Catalyst CS5.5

Environment is a new install of Windows 7 x64 on a new Dell workstation in an Active Directory environment. Until fall of last year, we used redirected folders for the Application Data folders until issues with Adobe Reader 9.x forced us to abandon that and we reconfigured our network not to use redirected folders. We have not experienced any issues and all programs are using the Application Data folder on the local machines.
Just installed Adobe Master Collection on a new workstation and all Adobe applications are using the C:\Users\cballew\AppData\Roaming\Adobe folder including Flash Catalyst. However, when I try to Run Project in Catalyst, it created a folder named Application Data using the network path to where we used to store the Application Data folder and is saving its workspace there. No other programs (including Adobe products) are doing this. Any ideads of how to fix it?

  • Problem Extracting Photoshop elements/gradient in Flash Catalyst to create skin

    Hi,
Is there is any way to get all the psd elements( i.e background gradient), in Flash catalyst. The photoshop files can be opened with different layers but all the
gradient/color portion are getting converted into images.
Excluding catalyst, Do we have any mechanism to create skin file(mxml)from psd files, except the Flex skin extensions.
Please let me know how can we open photoshop file into Catalyst so that its color/gradients won't get convert into image.

I took a look at the tutorial PSD file and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
When you save your project file, the only file that it should save is the ecotours_ui.fxp file. The ecotours_site.fxp file was one that was bundled in the tutorial files .zip package.
It shouldn't be a problem that you have the CS3 versions of Photoshop and Flash. As you have said, you are not running them. The lack of RAM could possibly be an issue. Another possibility might be some permissions getting in your way. Have you checked to see if the files or folders that got unzipped will allow you to write to them?

  • Work in Flash Catalyst beta not saving or inconsistent

I just downloaded the Flash Catalyst beta (flashcatalyst_b1_win_060109.exe) 06.03.2009.
I'm using the sample files provided with Adobe tutorial
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashcatalyst/articles/get_started_with_flash_catalyst.html
When I open the ecotours_ui.psd and try to follow tutorial, initially, the psd elements are not lined up, and so when I reposition them to correct postions, and save, then open fxp file - positions did not hold. And also - when saving 1st time,  program creates 2 fxp files:  ecotours_ui.fxp and  ecotours_site.fxp.
    I can open  ecotours_ui.fxp, but not  ecotours_site.fxp.
Not an optimal experience so far.
Is my problem wuth the sample psd file, or Flash Catalyst?
Does it matter what OS and version I have of Flash and Photoshop?
I am not opening Flash or Photoshop program so I do not see how version would matter anyhow.
I have Adobe Web Premium CS3 on a Windows XP box.
PC has 512mb ram, I need more I know, but could that be a factor?
Has anyone else encountered these problems?

I took a look at the tutorial PSD file and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5.5 Crashes when importing photoshop document

I am trying to import a photoshop file authored in Photoshop CS5.1 into Flash Catalyst CS5.5, and Flash catalyst crashes every time part way through the import. A few specifics:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Photoshop CS5.1
    Catalyst CS5.5
I have searched this forum for suggestions, and I have tried a number of them:
    * Removing layers from the source psd file to find a culprit layer (Removing all but one layer still crashes)
    * Running Photoshop in 32 bit mode, dragging the layers to a new document and saving
    * Waving chicken bones over my laptop (Nobody really suggested this, for good reason -- it doesn't work)
I have also replicated this crash on other Macintosh computers running the same Catalyst and Photoshop versions.
I have included part of the crash dump below. I've highlighted the section that mentions how many crashes I've had. I am happy to provide .psd files to demonstrate the issue, and troubleshoot any way necessary.

Hum. Have you tried a new Photoshop file with say one layer in it and just a fill or something very basic, then importing that in?
This might tell us if it is the PSD that has the issue or the import engine in Catalyst.
You said you removed the layers. So you tried importing each of the layers one by one into Catalyst with success? Then that means you have one layer that is troublesome. I would suspect that there is a filter or effect that has been applied that source of the issue.

  • Swf published from Flash Catalyst not playing in Flash Player

    Hi All,
I have 2 issues which I'm not sure may be related or not.
    - I've created a project in FC but when I publish it to .swf it does not open in Flash Player. It plays in Chrome but Flash Player 10 gives a blank screen.
    - I have FC 5.5 and I want to make the project scale according to the browser size. How can I do this? I have checked the Resize option but when it open in Chrome it just cuts out all that is outside the browser screen area.
    Thanks.
    Tej

I can not recall the minimum Flash Player that is required for Flash Catalyst. I suspect that your version of Flash Player is too low. Chrome auto-updates to the latest version, so that is why it works in Chrome.
Also, make sure you understand the differences between resizing and scaling. I wrote a blog post on this here: http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2011/06/22/understanding-resizing-and-scaling-in-flash- catalyst/

  • .swf imported in Flash Catalyst shows only the Flash Shockwave icon

I have scoured the FC forums and watched all of the Adobe TV episodes
on importing .swf files into Flash Catalyst but I am still faced with the following problem.
I have a basic animated .swf file that I created in Flash CS5.  I am trying to import that .swf file into a Flash Catalyst project but when I do I only see the blue border around the asset when I click it in the layers panel.  In the top left corner is a small round Flash Icon ( I believe it is the Flash Shockwave version - Blueish Gray). Nothing shows when I "Run" the project nor when I added the .swf file in the local folder from where Flash Catalyst runs the project.
I tried re-publishing the original Flash file in different version of Flash player, but to no avail.  Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if I have imported incorrectly or what.
Even though I cannot see the .swf file imported into Flash Catalyst, I still tried to add an interaction to play on Application Start, but nothing there either.
At a loss and looking for some direction.
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Cheers!

    Erik -
It's a  pleasure to help someone!  I just got through this as you can see.  Only problem is I just hacked it with no precision, so for example I moved a lot of files to the server to make them accessable and then it played.  But near as I can tell, I'll tell you the story.
There are two things going on.  When you play it locally it's different from when you play it on the web. You are correct, you should see the first frame of the swf  in your animation.  To get it to play (assuming it is set to play)you  then have to control+enter to preview (on windows). The assests are laid out locally in the file structure displayed in the url bar.  no?
Part of it is that there may be several things going on here... All I can do is tell you all the numerous problems I had, made worse because I had 3 different work-stations...
I had problems when I had several swfs floating around in the  library and I think similar names: Eventually I just did a clean export  of the swf (the first one was from Flash... 3?  4?  and Catalyst is  cs5... )  and such to just do the work-flow in one motion.  I had too  many work-stations going on. So that part I finally did cleanly, and when that was settled, I could handle the file issues.
The swf: It does have to be in the same folder, and not in a sub-folder.  Also, all the contents from DEPLOY TO WEB - just drag it into your site folder defined by dreamweaver or whatever and put it on the server at the same level, NO russian dolls (no file folders within folders).  With Dreamweaver, when you upload a swf, you select the MAIN file and supposedly DW pulls files - it does, but not all of them, such as supporting swfs.
I would have thought that DW would do it correctly automatically : It seems to want to: but there are still kinks.
If you're like me, you recognize that catalyst is a powerful creative stage, but this stuff is just annoying and really easier just man-handled with precision once and forgotten about lol.
I heard also some grumbling on swfs that are just too huge or have aspects that don't import well, but it doesnt' sound like a problem in this case.
Do update me  - I'm around this weekend, would love to see you succeed on this.
    Cache,
Thanks for your replies. I have put the .swf file in the  same "local" directory as the main.html for the FC Project I am working  on and no luck locally. However, does the .swf file have to be in the  local directory of the FC project prior to it being imported into FC for  it to work locally?
Also, when I was watching a video  tutorial about inserting .swf files into FC, the graphics/content of the  .swf that was inserted could be seen in the design view of FC. My  imported .swf only shows a small, round flash icon in the corner and  nothing else.  This doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't one be able to  see the graphics/content of the imported .swf so that  it can be  properly placed in the design? That is how it was in the video tutorial.  If this is also due to the location of the imported .swf then Adobe has  not made that clear in anything I have read or seen.

  • How to use field validators, like an EmailValidator, in a Flash Catalyst project?

After making a contact form in Flash Catalyst, I added an EmailValidator in Flash Builder.
Unfortunately, the validation error message is not visible: only the outline of the message box and the red outline around the input field.
Does someone has some tips or suggestions how to make the error text visible?
    details:
    1. code snippets:

    2. screenshot of 'empty' error message:
(rectangle on the right in the image should display an error message)
    Thanks for any help,
    Peter van der Post

The issue is that Flash Catalyst uses the Wireframe Theme. Validators display in this fashion under that theme. What you need to do, once you are done with the project, take it back into Flash Builder, and change the Theme. This can be done under Project > Properties > Flex Theme > Spark
    Hope this helps.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5

When I try to create a FC app with Illustrator, I am frequently advised that the file has too many layers.
In some cases I can not reduce the number of layers. Complex circuitry design with lots of possibilities for each line.
Do the new versions of Flash Catalyst (CS6 for instance)  have the capability to support Illustrator files with more layers?
    Best regards

Flash Catalyst will be in any future version of the Creative Suite.
In terms of replacement... For Flex development there really is no replacement. The best you can do it use the current version and import it into Flash Builder. Round trip editting was broken with the 4.6 release of Flash Builder. For prototyping, you can review a whole host of alternatives. Some are better than others, but a lot depends on what you are prototyping.
As to your import issue, there is no merge. Import each cluster into Flash Catalyst, then you can select all the elements and create a Custom Component. This will help in managing it as to work with it.
Realize, if your illustration is that complex, you may have rendering and performance issues.

  • Exporting file for Flash Catalyst use?

Hey everyone.  I've made a video in Flash Pro, and I want to be able to play it in Flash Catalyst.  I'm using 5.5 of both versions, btw.  I export the Flash Pro video to a .mov file and then use Media Encoder to make that a .flv file.  I bring that file into FC and publish to web.  However, when I put those 'deploy to web' files on my website, the video doesn't play.  Everything else works except for the video.  So I put a generic, short .flv file that I downloaded from the internet into my FC file.  I published it to my website again, and everything worked fine.  The video played.  So obviously the problem with my video must be in the encoding process.
How should I do this?  I read one article online that said when I export a .mov file for FC, I should make sure that I don't have 'Fast - Compressed Header' selected in the Streaming options.  Well, I checked and I don't.  It's just under regular 'Fast'.  So what am I doing wrong here?  I've even tried converting my .mov file to a f4v file, and that doesn't work.  Help here would be so greatly appreciated.

Ah.  I think they just tested the .html file.  Though, they were trying nearly everything yesterday, so they might have tried the swf file, too.  I'll ask him this afternoon.  There's a webpage included in both deploy-to-web and run-local folders.  Both are entitled main.html.  I'm looking at both codes in Dreamweaver to see what would be different, how the code is calling to the flv video, and I can't see any change!  I switch from one code view to the other, and nothing is different.  The only difference is that in the video size area, the html file from the run-local folder is bigger.  So obviously something more was put into the run-local html file, but what I don't know.  I can't figure that out from the code.  Here's the code from the run-local file, though it looks the same in the deploy-to-web html file, too.

But I don't see anything where it calls to my bathinline.flv file.  Yet this one plays just fine.  I've played both .html files, and only the run-local html file plays fine on my computer (not viewing from website this time).  So I agree with you that I think it's a pathing issue on the deploy to web thing, but I have no idea what.  The code isn't showing any difference.
Any more ideas.  You've been really, really helpful so far!

  • Rollover menu in Flash Catalyst

Hi, I want to make a rollover menu in Flash Catalyst. That means, that I have a "select language" PSD and a "German and Enlish" PSD. When I transform the "Select language" PSD into a Button and put the second graphic into the state "over", then the menu opens like it should do. But now i can't transform the "German" and "English" text into a button cause I can't make a button inside an other button. I hope you can understand...(:
Hope you know a way to make this rollover! (-: Sorry for my English!

  • Flash catalyst 5 file opened in flash builder gives "Error #2032"

    Hi there,
As the title suggests I created a file in Flash catalyst 5 and to give it resizeability I edited it in flash builder to add preinitialize="systemManager.stage.scaleMode='showAll'" in main.xhtml as I found suggested in the forums.
The problem is when I try to load this in my web browser I get the #2032 error and nothing happens.
Does anybody more knowledgeable than me have any ideas as to why I might be getting this error?
    Best regards,
    Gareth

I'll give you the short answer, Flash Catalyst is built on top of the Flex Framework and it's libraries. When you launch or load a FC swf, it will contact the Adobe servers to check the status of various libraries. Since you are loading this into a standard Flash Professional created swf, you are by passing some of the fallbacks that exist.
If the movieClip that you are creating is just a filler image, and you are just centering the FC swf, then I also recommend using CSS to display the filler and some HTML/CSS to center the content.
    Hope this helps a little.
If you did the loading of the FC swf from a Flash Builder based project, you should not have the issue, since it is a Flex based SWF, the framework checks are already handled for you.

  • What Viewer Will Work In Flash Catalyst

I got simpleviewer to work until I closed the project and the folders I loaded into the workspace folder were not saved.  I tried the demo of Slideshow Pro, but it gives me no idea of if it will work in Flash Catalyst or how I would install it.  Is there any kind of viewer that I can use to create a picture gallery in Flash Catalyst or do I need to build one in Flash Catalyst with a data list?

I took a look at the tutorial PSD file and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
When you save your project file, the only file that it should save is the ecotours_ui.fxp file. The ecotours_site.fxp file was one that was bundled in the tutorial files .zip package.
It shouldn't be a problem that you have the CS3 versions of Photoshop and Flash. As you have said, you are not running them. The lack of RAM could possibly be an issue. Another possibility might be some permissions getting in your way. Have you checked to see if the files or folders that got unzipped will allow you to write to them?
