Flash Chart Labels Overlap

Hello,
I have created the 3D Pie Flash Chart in APEX 3.2. The labels overlap each other where the pie slice is small. Is there a way for me to fix this issue?
Regards,
Kelly

Hi Anil,
I have seen similar behaviors in 2D Column Charts. What I have found is that most often, for me, the issue has been that the chart is not wide enough. This is not specifically an APEX issue but rather a Flash issue. When the chart exceeds the dimensions that you specify for the chart, the charting engine must squish some part of the chart. Most often, the labels are what get removed, in my experience.
There are options to investigate this. You can make the chart wider in APEX and see if the problem goes away. You could rotate your X-Axis text by 45 degrees or so to see if they all appear. I have also seen the labels appear when you use your browser to zoom feature. This is a Flash behavior as well. If you zoom your browser to 200%, you may see more of your labels.
Finally, it would appear from your sample data set, that you may not be getting stacked column. Is that the case? If you are getting a single column for each record in your data set, then you probably have 36 columns on your chart which is a lot. You will need to make the chart very wide in APEX and possibly rotate the labels.
If you need help with anything else, just ask.

  • APEX Flash Chart labels not displaying

    Hi there
    I am trying to create a 2D Stacked Column Flash chart, it is month based and for each month I have 3 Columns
    So the query for the series returns a result set like so..
    'Jan-11_Col1',10
    'Jan-11_Col2',20
    'Jan-11_Col3',30
    'Feb-11_Col1',10
    'Feb-11_Col2',20
    'Feb-11_Col3',45
    'Dec-11_Col1',20
    'Dec-11_Col2',80
    'Dec-11_Col3',100
    I want to display a chart where the first column of the result set is my x-axis and the second column is my y-axis. I have have created the chart but I find I don't get a label for every columm on my x-axis, I only get one for every third column, and I can't see a way of doing it, can anybody tell me how?
    thanks... Anil

  • APEX 3.0 - flash chart using 'Omit label interval'- missing lines in legen

    Hi,
    we are using APEX 3.0 on XE as development database.
    Using the option "omit label interval" in the flash chart configuration, the legend will show the entries the same way as the x-axis.
    For example:
    setting omit label interval to 23 to get only one entry per day on the x-axis (we have one value for every hour of the day and want to display the chart on monthly base). My chart containing 2 series will show only the legend entry for the first serie.
    How can I display the second one ?
    Greetings
    Marco

    Marco,
    Unfortunately, that's a bug in APEX 3.0. The 3.0.1 patch set will include a fix for it.

  • Setting "Omit Label Interval" on 2D Line Flash Chart

    Hi,
    i have a 2D Line Flash Chart showing a few values or many values. (depending on the selected interval, eg. minutes, hours, days, week, months ..)
    Unfortionatly if the flash chart has to show many values, the labels cannot be read (because they are too many)
    In Section "Display Settings" i can set "Omit Label Interval", but i need to set this property dynamically - how can i do this?
    kind regards
    Günther

    Hi Günther,
    I used a similar example a while ago unfortunately for you I started the refresh when I clicked on a button:
    Page header:
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    function fnc_UpdateChart ()
      var v_region_id = $v('P1_REGION_ID').substr(1);
      apex_RefreshChart ($v('pFlowStepId'),v_region_id , navigator.language );
    </script>Region footer (from your chart region):
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    $s("P1_REGION_ID", "#REGION_ID#" );
    </script>I had some trouble with the IE where the update didn't worked? I don't know if you will experience the same.
    You would now need to integrate a timer. I made an example with an IRR: [http://apex-at-work.blogspot.com/2009/08/automatic-refresh-of-interactive.html|http://apex-at-work.blogspot.com/2009/08/automatic-refresh-of-interactive.html]
    It's a beginning. Hope it helps.

  • Flash Charts - How to manipulate the #data# replacement string in XML

    I have a problem with the XML file for a flash chart. I am trying to display a 2dColumn chart of an SQL query with the general form:
    select null link, x as name, sum(y) as value from z group by (x);
    this generates multiple rows, which are displayed as a bar in the chart. So far so good. The problem is, that each row is defined as a block in the chart, but only one name entry is created "value", which is displayed in the legend of the chart.
    I can display the block names on the x-axis of the chart, however, I can't rotate them, so that they don't overlap in the display, which I would be able to do with names. I assume, that the blocks are defined in the #data# replacement string of the XML file. I would like to change the generated XML replacement string from the SQL to make each row selected a different name, and only have one block ("value").
    What would be the easiest way to achieve this?

    user587996,
    There's no way to manipulate the #data# replacement directly, but you could generate your own XML (see Re: Apex changing nulls to zeroes when creating Flash Charts for one way to do it).
    When you say "I can't rotate them, so that they don't overlap in the display" -- have you tried the Labels Rotation chart attribute, or is that not working?

  • Flash Chart Legend

    I have built a 2D Line Flash chart with 6 series. My problem is that the legend shows the word "Value". Does anyone know how to make the legend display the series name instead.
    Jeff

    Varad,
    Thank you for your reply but your answer does not appear to be the solution I need. This SQL statement below used in a SVG Chart yields a legend using the series name. The same SQL statemnet used in a Flash Chart yields "Value" as the series name. Why?
    <pre>
    SELECT NULL link,
    to_char (minipay_detail_vw.event_dt, 'YYYY, MM') AS label,
    sum (minipay_detail_vw.contract_pay_amt) AS value
    FROM [email protected]
    WHERE minipay_detail_vw.object_class_cd = '018'
    AND to_char (minipay_detail_vw.event_dt, 'YYYYMM') <
    to_char (sysdate, 'YYYYMM')
    AND financial_organization_cd IN
    ('1650', '1655', '1660', '1665', '1670')
    AND (:p337_fy = '%null%' OR minipay_detail_vw.fiscal_year = :p337_fy)
    GROUP BY to_char (minipay_detail_vw.event_dt, 'YYYY, MM')
    ORDER BY to_char (minipay_detail_vw.event_dt, 'YYYY, MM')

  • Flash Chart Legend Not In Capitals

    I have created a flash chart based upon a function returning sql. The chart displays fine but the legend column names for some reason are converted to initial capitals from all originally being in capitals, eg "SERIES" now equals "Series". I really need the legend to display all capitals as it is in the sql.
    For example:
    The function returns a string similar to this .......
    select NULL as "LINK",
    WEEK as "LABEL",
    VALUE1 as "VALUE1,
    VALUE2 as "VALUE2"
    from MY_TABLE
    order by WEEK
    When the flash chart is rendered on the page the legend displays the two series values as "Value1" and "Value2". Somehow the chart ignores the capital case of the column names and applies initial capitals only over riding the original case.
    There appears to be no over ride for the legend case so where is it coming from ? It shouldn't make any difference but the chart type is a "3D column" style. Not sure if this is a XML question or maybe a Flash Player issue.
    Regards,
    Jack.

    I had the same problem.
    To fix it:
    1. Find a font that is strictly caps. I used Felix Titling.
    2. Edit the flash chart & under the chart attributes set USe Custom XML to yes.
    3. Scroll down almost to the bottom and find the legend tag.
    4. In the font tag for the legend substitute the font you chose.
    This will capitalize ALL the letters in the legend.
    I don't know how to selectively capitalize letters.

  • Apex 3.1 and Custom Flash Charts

    I am having difficulty getting to the point where my custom flash charts can be displayed. I have Oracle 10.2, over OHS to Apex 3.1. I cannot post any of the config files or code here because it is a different network, so I realize it will be hard to troubleshoot; and I apologize in advance.
    I would use the canned Flash charts, but my application displays data much like MS Outlook's multi-user calendar does. The chart has to be color coded, similar to Outlook's Busy vs Tentative etc. It has to show multiple events at various times, including overlapping times. And it has to handle schedules for multiple people. Lastly, there are of course gaps in the schedule, because no day is comprised entirely of meetings. That is why I felt I had to do it manually.
    I wrote XML/SVG code to do this previously, with HTML DB 1.5, and it worked fine. But Flash is the way we are going now, and I can't use SVG anymore. (Besides, Adobe says SVG will no longer be supported next year.)
    I followed the thread of April 07 in which MAdelfio posted suggestions, but I can't get it right. I did everything listed except I never included the <data>...</data> code, because I am not sure where it goes. I have a custom written stored proc, exactly like in the thread, and I pass it all the args that apex_util.flash wants. I get a malformed XML message when I try to display the chart. That seems like it should be a very straight forward error, but I can't figure out where to look. I have been using 1.5 for about a year, and last month upgraded to 3.1.
    Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Or, failing that, any simple examples that display Flash charts in which the code was generated by a stored procedure?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    I'm sorry about not being able to provide all the info you need. Since it is on a totally separate network, with no access to the outside world, the only way I can do it is to print and retype everything. So I was hoping that someone could just provide suggestions as to where to look rather than providing answers. I understand that it is impossible for you to solve my problems, especially when you have been given no real information. And I don't want to keep you guessing -- I'd love to be able to just show everything and ask for help; I just can't.
    Anyway, I am trying to use only those facilities provided with Apex. I do not have any 3rd party tools except for Perl. I am using the standard shockwave flash plugin for Mozilla. The way I did it with SVG was to create a stored procedure that generated an XML file. I put a button on the page that ran the stored proc and then redisplayed the page, with an HTML region. That region included an iframe, where the source was a perl script that merely regurgitated the SVG script (for some reason I could not get the iframe to accept XML as a source, so I created send_svg.pl, which merely outputted the named SVG file).
    The format I followed was in this thread: Re: Custom Flash Charts
    I even created a replacement proc for APEX_UTIL.FLASH with the exact output as the thread, knowing that even if it worked I'd still have a ton of work making it produce my chart. But once I can get the infrastructure right, I feel I can write the flash XML.
    Maybe the easiest thing is to scan that thread I referenced and tell me if it is still accurate? That is, could anything have changed in 3.0.1, or should it still work? It is possible, maybe even likely, that I made a mistake retyping all that stuff, so maybe just verifying that it SHOULD work is a good start.
    Thanks again, and sorry again.
    Michael

  • Flash chart - Error - No chart data available

    Hi
    I have a Flash chart that shows the message "Error - No chart data available" (not the no data found message).
    If I run its query in sql*plus (using the same parameters) I get 4 rows (with url, label and value columns). I am clueless about how to start investigating this as the chart does not show any other information... Any advice?
    What does that message mean? Obviously is something different from no data found?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi Marco
    Thanks for the reply. I did what you said and found out the problem:
    chart Flash Chart error: ORA-20001: get_data error: ORA-20001: Fetch error: ORA-01843: not a valid monthThis was caused because I used the following construction:
    where date_from = :p5_date_fromIf this was a report, this would run fine as I set the date format mask using a application level process. However, as Flash charts use separate database connections, they ignore that setting (btw I posted a message about this problem).
    I fixed it hardcoding a format mask in my SQL. Not nice but it works!
    Thanks

  • Scatter plot using time series function - Flash charting

    Apex 3 + XE + XP
    I am trying to build a time series scatter plot chart using flash chart component.
    Situation :
    On each scout date counts are taken within each crop. I want to order them by scout dates and display them in a time series chart. Each series represents different crop.
    I am posting the two series queries I used
    Queries:
    Series 1
    select     null LINK, "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTDATE" LABEL, INSECTDISEASESCOUT.AVERAGECOUNT as "AVERAGE COUNT" from     "COUNTY" "COUNTY",
         "FIELD" "FIELD",
         "VARIETYLIST" "VARIETYLIST",
         "INSECTDISEASESCOUT" "INSECTDISEASESCOUT",
         "SCOUTDATES" "SCOUTDATES",
         "CROP" "CROP"
    where "SCOUTDATES"."CROPID"="CROP"."CROPID"
    and     "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTID"="INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."SCOUTID"
    and     "CROP"."VARIETYID"="VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYLISTID"
    and     "CROP"."FIELDID"="FIELD"."FIELDID"
    and     "FIELD"."COUNTYID"="COUNTY"."COUNTYID"
    and      "INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."PESTNAME" ='APHIDS'
    and     "VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYNAME" ='SUGARSNAX'
    and     "COUNTY"."COUNTNAME" ='Kings' AND CROP.CROPID=1
    order by SCOUTDATES.SCOUTDATE' ASC
    Series 2:
    select     null LINK, "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTDATE" LABEL, INSECTDISEASESCOUT.AVERAGECOUNT as "AVERAGE COUNT" from     "COUNTY" "COUNTY",
         "FIELD" "FIELD",
         "VARIETYLIST" "VARIETYLIST",
         "INSECTDISEASESCOUT" "INSECTDISEASESCOUT",
         "SCOUTDATES" "SCOUTDATES",
         "CROP" "CROP"
    where "SCOUTDATES"."CROPID"="CROP"."CROPID"
    and     "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTID"="INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."SCOUTID"
    and     "CROP"."VARIETYID"="VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYLISTID"
    and     "CROP"."FIELDID"="FIELD"."FIELDID"
    and     "FIELD"."COUNTYID"="COUNTY"."COUNTYID"
    and      "INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."PESTNAME" ='APHIDS'
    and     "VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYNAME" ='SUGARSNAX'
    and     "COUNTY"."COUNTNAME" ='Kings' AND CROP.CROPID=4
    order by SCOUTDATES.SCOUTDATE' ASC
    Problem
    As you can see the observations are ordered by scout date. However when the chart appears, the dates dont appear in order. The chart displays the data from crop 1 and then followed by crop 4 data, which is not exactly a time series chart. Does flash chart support time series or they have no clue that the data type is date and it should be progressive in charting ? I tried to use to_char(date,'j') to converting them and apply the same principle however it did not help either.
    Any suggestions ?

    Arumugam,
    All labels are treated as strings, so APEX will not compare them as dates.
    There are two workarounds to get all your data in the right order:
    1) Combine the SQL statements into single-query multi-series format, something like this:
    select null LINK,
    "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTDATE" LABEL,
    decode(CROP.CROPID,1,INSECTDISEASESCOUT.AVERAGECOUNT) as "Crop 1",
    decode(CROP.CROPID,4,INSECTDISEASESCOUT.AVERAGECOUNT) as "Crop 4"
    from "COUNTY" "COUNTY",
    "FIELD" "FIELD",
    "VARIETYLIST" "VARIETYLIST",
    "INSECTDISEASESCOUT" "INSECTDISEASESCOUT",
    "SCOUTDATES" "SCOUTDATES",
    "CROP" "CROP"
    where "SCOUTDATES"."CROPID"="CROP"."CROPID"
    and "SCOUTDATES"."SCOUTID"="INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."SCOUTID"
    and "CROP"."VARIETYID"="VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYLISTID"
    and "CROP"."FIELDID"="FIELD"."FIELDID"
    and "FIELD"."COUNTYID"="COUNTY"."COUNTYID"
    and "INSECTDISEASESCOUT"."PESTNAME" ='APHIDS'
    and "VARIETYLIST"."VARIETYNAME" ='SUGARSNAX'
    and "COUNTY"."COUNTNAME" ='Kings'
    AND CROP.CROPID in (1,4)
    order by SCOUTDATES.SCOUTDATE ASC2) Union the full domain of labels into your first query. Then the sorting will be applied to the full list, and the values of the second series will be associated with the matching labels from the first.

  • Flash Chart Printing Help

    Hi Everyone,
    I have a question regarding printing of a flash chart region. I created flash charts using several chart series of pl/sql code that are functions returning SQL queries (generates my dynamic SQL query).
    We have our printing configured to use BI Publisher and works with report regions, but how do I have this functionality for flash charts?
    I attempted going down the route of creating report layouts using report queries, but when specifying the source query, it only allows SQL and no option for functions returning SQL queries (does not let me use PL/SQL code). Is there a solution for this?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Luis

    Link to a page that will branch to different pages based on a page item that is sent via the chart link.
    For example:
    Create Page 220 with an hidden item P220_TABLE.
    On Page 220 create a branch to the page for your 'COMPANIES' table with a condition of Value of Item / Column in Expression 1 = Expression 2, Expression 1: P220_TABLE, Expression 2: COMPANIES
    Create additional branches for each table page.
    Go back and edit your chart series and edit the Action Link fields.
    Action Link: Link to Custom Target
    Target: Page in this Application
    Page: +220+
    Request: BRANCH_TO_PAGE_ACCEPT
    Name--
    Item 1: P53_TABLE Value: +#LABEL#+

  • Access the X-axis value from Flash Chart

    Hi,
    Is there a way I can access the X-axis value from Flash Chart to populate a report in another page? My X-axis is not a direct column in the table it is computed in the query.
    X-axis is MON-YEAR computed from the Begin_Date column. I want to capture the MON-YEAR clicked by the user to populate a report for that Mon-Year.
    Here is my chart SQL.
    select 'f?p=&APP_ID.:18:&SESSION.:::::::' link,
    to_char( "VIEW"."BEGIN_DATE",'MON-YYYY') label,
    sum(decode(TYPE_Id,2,Value,0)) "Value-1",
    sum(decode(TYPE_Id,1,Value,0)) "Value-2"
    from "VIEW" where to_char( "VIEW"."BEGIN_DATE",'MON-YYYY')= to_Char(sysdate-100, 'MON-YYYY')
    group by to_char( "VIEW"."BEGIN_DATE",'MON-YYYY'),

  • Using 'Function Returning SQL Query' with Flash charts

    I have created a pl/sql function that returns a SQL query as a varchar2 of this form:
    select null link
    <x value> value
    <Series1 y value> Series 1 Label
    <Series2 y value> Series 2 Label
    <Series3 y value> Series 3 Label
    from tablea a
    join tableb b
    on a.col = b.col
    order by <x value>
    If I now call the function from a Flash Chart Series SQL box with the Query Source Type set to 'Function Returning SQL Query' like this:
    return functionname(to_date('30-sep-2010', 'dd-mon-yyyy'))
    it parses correctly and the page is saved; however, when I run the page I don't get any output - nor any error messages or other indication of a problem.
    Now, if I call the function in a SQL client, capture the SQL query output using dbms_output and paste that into the Flash Chart Series SQL box - changing the Query Source Type to SQL Query - and save the page it works fine when I run it and returns a multi-series flash chart.
    Can anyone suggest either;
    1. What have I might have missed or done wrong?
    2. Any way to usefully diagnose the problem...
    I have tried using the Apex debugger - which is very nice, by the way - but it doesn't provide any info on what my problem might be. I even tried writing my own debug messages from my function using the apex_debug_message package - got nothing...
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
    Try expressing the source as this:
    begin
       return functionname(to_date('30-sep-2010', 'dd-mon-yyyy'));
    end;That works fine for me, and if I take out the begin-end and the trailing semicolon from the return statement I get the same behavior as you.
    It does mention in the help for the source (only during the wizard though) that this source type has to be expressed that way, but I agree it would be helpful if the tool would validate for this format when 'Function Returning SQL Query' is used or give some sort of indication of the trouble. Anyway, this should get you going again.
    Hope this helps,
    John

    Hey there...
    The reason it's not refreshing is because you actually have to tell the flash chart that it NEEDS to refresh. Unless you have Asynchronous Update turned on, the chart will not refresh itself when the data behind the chart has changed. And even if you DO have Asynchronous Update, on, (Which you don't want to do), you'd likely see some lag between your user's change and the data in the graph changing.
    You can do this by using an APEX JavaScript function called apex_RefreshChart().
    1) Edit the chart and go to the REGION DEFINITION tab.
    2) In the REGION SOURCE, scroll down to the bottom and ad the following code
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function myRefreshChart(){
       var chartName = '#CHART_NAME#';
       chartName = chartName.substring(1);
       apex_RefreshChart(&APP_PAGE_ID., chartName, 'en-us');
    </script>3) At the end of your JavaScript function, call the new function myRefreshChart().
    That should force the chart to refresh by re-executing the underlying query and passing back in the data to the chart.
    NOTE: This function is not part of the publicly documented API's so it's likely not supported, but it does work!
    Look for a blog post with more detail sometime tomorrow.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dates in Flash Chart Bolded

    I have a really frustrating issue with the formatting of my Flash charts. Whenever there is a date on an axis label it will bold all dates along the axis. It also seems to forget the formatting I want for the rest of the chart.
    I have all of my charts to show the axis in 10pt Arial. Things work fine if there are no dates. The minute a date goes in the date axis is bold and the other axis is back to the default font and size. Any ideas?

    Maybe this issue is a bug. I changed the rotation back to 0 and the text shows normal. Although, if this was going to happen I would have expected the same behavior with standard text.
