Flash.desktop.FilePromiseManager (and ..Wrapper) classes
Where can I find documentation for these classes?
flash.desktop.FilePromiseManager
flash.desktop.FilePromiseWrapper
Those are internal classes not meant for application use. (Thus, there is no documentation available.)

Opinions on javadoc and wrapper classes
I have several wrapper classes (in this case, wrappers for InputStream) that override all of the methods, but only a few of the methods overridden have important changes. The rest of the methods behave as described in the original contract (in this case, the various InputStream.read() methods).
I would like to hear some opinions regarding documenting these methods. Any javadoc I write for them would be nearly identical or even copy/pasted from the original javadoc. The javadoc comment for the whole class clearly says that the class follows the contract for the wrapped class, and as such the overrideen methods will work as such.
Is it reasonable to ask that someone reading the javadoc for this class should refer back to the wrapped class' API documentation, or should I copy (or paraphrase) the description from the original API documentation?I like the idea of @see, but since I'm just javadoc'ing my classes, @see doesn't link, which in this case, eliminates some of the usefulness. Here's a concrete example:
/* ************ Normal ************ */
available
public int available()
throws java.io.IOException
Overrides:
available in class java.io.InputStream
Throws:
java.io.IOException
/* ************ @see ************ */
available
public int available()
throws java.io.IOException
Overrides:
available in class java.io.InputStream
Throws:
java.io.IOException
See Also:
InputStream.available()
/* ************ JDK in sourcepath ************ */
available
public int available()
throws java.io.IOException
Description copied from class: java.io.InputStream
Returns an estimate of the number of bytes that can be read (or skipped over) from this input stream without blocking by the next invocation of a method for this input stream. The next invocation might be the same thread or another thread. A single read or skip of this many bytes will not block, but may read or skip fewer bytes.
Note that while some implementations of InputStream will return the total number of bytes in the stream, many will not. It is never correct to use the return value of this method to allocate a buffer intended to hold all data in this stream.
A subclass' implementation of this method may choose to throw an IOException if this input stream has been closed by invoking the InputStream.close() method.
The available method for class InputStream always returns 0.
This method should be overridden by subclasses.
Overrides:
available in class java.io.InputStream
Returns:
an estimate of the number of bytes that can be read (or skipped over) from this input stream without blocking or 0 when it reaches the end of the input stream.
Throws:
IOException - if an I/O error occurs.
/* ********************* end javadoc stuff *************** */
Because of the Overrides bit, the @see tag isn't really adding anything new. The inherited comment is clearly labeled as such, which is a big plus to me (give credit where credit is due). -
I need to create a desktop app for windows. Im using Flash cs5.5 and I wanted to know of an easy to way to create a simple contact form that would work once installed on a desktop/
Thanks guys for any input!If you want a contact form you can either use StageWebView or HTMLLoader to show an HTML page in your web server with a contact form.
Or you can create the form with Flash textfields and then send the whole thing with a POST request to a PHP script in the server, for example. -
I just tried installing the new AIR 2.0 beta SDK according to the Release Notes. When i tried to create a simple application using the NativeProcess class, i got the following error:
Error #1014: Class flash.desktop::NativeProcess could not be found.
Any ideas?Figured it out... Make sure your descriptor file has the following namespace definition!!

What are Wrapper classes and what are they used for ?
What are Wrappter classes and what are they used for ?..Also, any examples would be great to understand this concept
Wrapper classes are used to enclose primitive data
types so that they can be used in instances where an
object is required. For example, if you want to add an
integer to an ArrayList, you can't use this:java.util.List al = new ArrayList();
int i=123;
al.add(i);because the ArrayList expects data of type object. In
order to all the integer to the ArrayList, you must wrap
it in the Integer wrapper class. This works:java.util.List al = new ArrayList();
int i=123;
al.add(new Integer(i));Hope that helps.

Advantages,Dis-advantages,when and where -use java.lang.Void Wrapper class
Hi All,
I like to know when and where to use the wrapper class java.lang.Void and when it is particulary needed.if anyone could give me some examples it will be better.
Thanks in advance,
KathirI like to know when and where to use the wrapper class java.lang.VoidWhy? If you don't need it, you don't have to use it.
and when it is particulary needed.It is needed when you want to represent the concept of a void return value.
if anyone could give me some examples it will be better.
Method wait = Object.class.getMethod("wait",null);
if (wait.getReturnType() == Void.TYPE) {
System.out.println("Object.wait() returns null");

What is the proper way to code a "wrapper" class?
Basically I want to replace an existing Action with a custom Action, but I want the custom Action to be able to invoke the existing Action.
The following code works fine. I can create a custom Action using the existing action and the text on the button "paste-from-clipboard" is taken from the existing Action. So everything works great as long as the existing Action extends from AbstractAction.
However the Action interface does not support the getKeys() method which I used to copy the key/value information from the existing action to the wrapped action. So if you try to create a button from some class that strictly implements the Action interface the key/value data in the wrapped Action will be empy and no text will appear on the button.
So as the solution I thought I would need to override all the methods in the wrapped Action class to invoke the methods from the originalAction object. That is why all the commented code in the class is there. But then the protected methods cause a problem as the class won't compile.
Do I just not worry about overriding those two methods? Is this a general rule when creating wrapper classes, you ignore the protected methods?

What are the uses of Void wrapper class?
Hi,
Similar to other Wrappers, Void is a wrapper class for the primitive ' void ' . We all know that Void is a final class , we can't instantiate it.
My Question is what are the uses of Void?

hi all
It would be appreciated if any one let me know how to edit
bitmap which is imported in flash using xml and save the edited
bitmap back to xml in flash.
Is it posible to save the bitmap data in flash?
thanks in advanceYes you can... but like I said before you need to upload the
data from the changes you make to a server.
In terms of the solution... its unlikely that you'll find one
specifically for your needs. You will have to learn whatever you
don't know how already and maybe adapt some existing examples to
your needs.
To change the visual state of a movie clip... you just do all
the regular things that you want to do to it using flash... scale,
rotation, drawing API , textfields etc in actionscript. If you
don't know how to how to do that stuff, then you need to learn that
first. That's basic actionscript.
You can capture the visual state of a movieclip using the
BitmapData class. That includes a loaded jpeg. You can also
manipulate bimatp data using the same class. You should read up on
that if you don't know how to use it or check out the examples
below for uploading info.
For uploading to the server:
Here's an as2 solution that took 15 secs to find using
google:
http://www.quasimondo.com/archives/000645.php
If you're using as3, google search for "jpeg encoder as3" and
look through that info. There are also historical answers in the
forums here related to this type of thing that might help as
well. -
hi-
it seems that after i downloaded and installed midp4palm and j2me_cldc 1.0.2 the lcdui and midlet classes are both missing. i browsed to the cldc folder on my computer and checked in all the subfolders there. in the javax/microedition/ folder, only io is there, not lcdui and midlet also. did i miss something in downloading?
help?
thanks
brandonMidp4palm is midp ... hum... for Palm !
If you want the midp's API, you need to download a
reference implementation for your desktop at :
http://java.sun.com/products/midp/
otherwise, you can download the J2ME wireless toolkit
wich come with a midpapi zip file.Ok. I'm starting to catch on, what I've been looking for and can't seem to find is the documentation for ALL of the classes that are included / available in the MIDP. It seems to me that Sun is making this more confusing than it should be. I understand their desire to modularize (is that a word?) such that you pick the parts that are appropriate for you particular mobile device, but they need to do a better job of packaging. IMHO. -
Failed to Generate Wrapper Class Error With Postgresql
Hello,
Sorry if this comes across twice, I posted it first through the Google Groups interface, but I haven't seen it show up on the dev2dev forum interface. So here it is again.
I've read the following threads that seem to be related to this
question:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/weblogic.developer.interest.jdbc/browse_thread/thread/dc8f0a9ee03e9b9f/f0a70a673db3bb52
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/weblogic.developer.interest.jdbc/browse_thread/thread/4f3b71c77dca30c4/4ed2e1c7b76a0c7b
I also followed the links in the second post ( I also found them via
Google as well ). I've been very sure the Postgresql JDBC driver is
definitely in the class path. I'm able to load it with Class.forName()
from a JSP page and then use DriverManager to get a connection that
works. So that definitely means the driver is found.
What else can cause this?
The only really odd thing I am doing is running Weblogic on OS X,
10.3.7 with all the updates. I know that this Weblogic setup works
since I work on Oracle all day (using the provided Weblogic driver in
8.1SP3). Just when I try to create a Postgresql connection for testing
our app against Postgresql.
I've tried it on Windows with Weblogic 8.1SP3 and it works, so I know
Weblogic is capable of using this driver.

1. Could you try to test the postgress connection pool using

2. Could you compare config.xml for broken and working installations

Pls tell me what is the advantage of using Wrapper
Classes over the primitive data types ?
means Integer instead of int, etc....I am not sure why use Integer over int; but Wrapper classes are used to remove coupling between classes and create one hand doesn't know what the other hand does effect.
for example:
when you have a SFTP java package but doesn't do everything that your application needs to do in one step and you need to do sftp stuff at many places in your application, it would be wise not to use SFTP java package directly from all the classes that need to do sftp stuff. Because if you were to change the SFTP package later due to say some bug fix or newer version or ... you would have to go and modify all the classes that had sftp stuff to update.
Instead you could write a custom sftp wrapper that handles all the sftp stuff for your application needs and that wrapper deals with the SFTP java package. So all the classes don't need to know which SFTP java package is being used only the custom-wrapper needs to know.
