Flash Intros on an iWeb site

I purchased a flash intro template off of templatemonster.com. I edited the flash intro in a trial version of Adobe Flash CS3. After I edited the template so that it had the wording I wanted I then did not know what to do to actually make it my flash intro. After I had edited it, it gave me .html, .swf and .fla files for the intro. The .html file and the .swf file actually play the intro, the .fla file does not.
After playing around for some time, I realized that the flash intro would not play because my index.html file directs the front page to be the "Welcome" page. After playing around for a bit, I changed the name of my flash intro .html file to "Welcome_.html"...the same file name as the front page. I uploaded the flash "Welcome_.html" file to the the server and BOOOOM! My flash intro plays however it is in the wrong position and does not link to the site. I believe the correct file is supposed to be the .swf version because it is centered correctly and includes buttons like "sound" and replay.
Anyways, I know I am far off with my jerry-rigging of the .html files, but does anybody out there know how to put a flash intro onto an iWeb site or how that would look on the server?

Drag the SWF file onto your welcome page in iWeb. If you don't want the control bar, uncheck it in the QuickTime inspector. Check autoplay and loop if your flash file is not set to autoplay and loop.
When you upload to the server the SWF file is in the Media folder.

  • Trying to add Flash Intro to my HTML site

    Hi everybody.
I have an HTML site that I would like to add a Flash Intro
to. I would like the Flash intro page to play (about 30 seconds)
then change to the first page of my HTML site. I have searched
through several books, Lynda.com, and google, but can't come up
    with a good solution.
Would someone be kind enough to help?
    Thanks in advance.

Before reading all this, make sure you download my example
    files at
    http://www.shan-dysigns.com/flash/flashIntro.zip
That link is further down in my reply, but you may miss it.
Since you want people to see your flash intro before your
html page, you will have to rename your existing html page to
something like homepage.html. When people go to your domain name,
file names such as index, default (I think there might be a few
others) will be automatically loaded first. Because of this, your
flash intro (once placed into an html page) will have to be named
    index.html.
After creating your flash intro, export it to a swf file. Go
into DW and create a new html page (you need a container for your
flash intro). On the menu bar of DW, click Insert, then Media, then
Flash. You may want to create a table or a div tag before hand in
order to center the flash file (then you would just insert the
flash file into that table or div tag).
if you download my example stuff
    here,
you will see a flash document, swf file, the index.html page which
holds the flash intro swf file, a hopepage.html file, and a folder
DW automatically creates when you insert Flash content. Download
the zip file and save it in a temp folder somewhere. Go to Windows
Explorer (assuming you are on a PC), and double click the
index.html page (I don't know if your browser will ask if it's ok
to run scripts, but it's just the script from DW allowing the
flash). You should see the 10 seconds of the flash intro, then you
will be redirected to the homepage.html file when the intro is
finished. If you look at the flash document, on the last layer
where I have the script, there is an absolute path (currently
commented out), and a relative path. Using the relative path will
allow you to test this without having to upload to a server. In
order to test all this on a server, you will need to upload all the
files and the folder to a server (you may want to create a test
folder on the server to place these files in). Make sure you change
the flash document's code to the absolute path and comment out the
relative one, and make sure to change the domain name to yours,
export the flash file and upload the new swf along with the other
files and folder. Then go to yourDomainName.com/test, and you
should see everything. I don't know how else to explain any of
    this...

  • Putting a Flash Intro on iweb

I brought a flash intro in .fla format and I was using FTP for mac to upload the flash intro to my iweb. What is the FTP server for site of iweb.

Where are you hosting the site? If you have a MobileMe account and are using iWeb you don't need an ftp application (MobileMe doesn't support ftp, only WebDAV). Just use the File->Publish to MobileMe menu option.

  • IWeb sites are slow to upload. text columns turn to heavy png files

    Hi!
Yes I've noticed that iweb sites for some odd reason are slower to load on any browser. No matter what the hosting is. I use Me.com for a few years and iWeb as I don't have the time or patience to bother with Dreamweaver. I use Me.com for hosting as well as another web hosting server. If there is graphic material on the page, it takes so long to open. Apple must do something about it for sure.
The program iWeb itself doesn't open up fast enough if you have more than 3 pages on it (which any normal site would have). I'm glad Apple made good changes in iWeb09, but it needs to do something about the speed of the program, the sites it makes and how it processes simple matter on it.
Even though, I have come across some good examples of iWeb made sites that are easy and relatively faster to open or they open at a normal speed. The authors also have used flash material on their iWeb sites. I have a non-registered program (web site Maestro) that claims to ease up and streamline the graphic and other heavy content on a iWeb site to make it lighter with loading.
But the unregistered version works on 70 percent files only. And I don't really notice any difference with it either. So I'm doubtful of buying the full version.
Any thoughts? Solutions? Would really appreciate.
ANOTHER ISSUE that I have discovered while making iWeb site is that a text column put on a shape after publishing turns into a heavy PNG picture file that can weight almost upto 1 whole megabyte!!!
And you keep wondering why the darn page is so slow to open!!! Cuz a simple text could've been just about 50kb. But it turns into a 900kb picture in png!!! Is there a way to change this?? I guess, taking out the picture from the published site folder and reediting it in - say - Photoshop reducing its size may help. But its so cumbersome and arduous to go into every darn folder and open all the text now converted into pics and re-edit them!! And then their reduced quality will make the text look feeble and bad quality too.
This is a problem that APPLE iWEB experts Must work on. iWeb gives a certain flexibility as its like a free flowing canvas. But then its also a known fact that iWeb sites are exceptionally heavier to open, unless you know many other tweaks here and there to make it work right. But again, this is contrary to the purpose of iWeb, cuz its made for amateur site makers.
I wish there is a work around this thing really.
ANY SUGGESTIONS FRIENDS?? WOULD LOVE TO HEAR. PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND SOLUTIONS.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nitesh

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Shapes by their very nature are graphic elements that end up a png file whether there's text in them or not. You should try adding the text in a text box above the shape and see if there's any difference. Just be sure to use a Web Safe Font and not add any enhancements that will turn it into a image file:
You may not notice a difference with loading with WSM but those with Internet Explorer should. Have you tested your site with and without WSM on a PC?
In WSM you can set the amount of optimizing for graphics. I've set it at about 60% (moderate) and haven't tested other settings for image quality. I'm sure a lower quality level, i.e. more compression, will have a impact on file loading. I just don't have a feel for the greatest amount of compression that will still have acceptable image quality. You'll just have to experiment.
If your site is a commercial site then using a commercial hosting server is the best option. Also, it's reported that using a Text Based Navbar instead of iWeb's java based one will help dark side compatibility.
Be sure to put in feature requests for the improvements that you see necessary to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.

  • PAID WORK:  Any One Want (iWeb) Site Development Work?

I'm searching – and I'm happy to pay - for a web design person who can make two changes to my iWeb site.
If any one out there knows a good (iWeb) website developer – or if you yourself are one – I’d like to hire someone who can add pull down menus and a Flash file to my iWeb site.
Please contact me at this e mail address: [email protected]
My site needs two modifications: first – and I’m not even sure if this is possible on iWeb – add (what I believe are called) “jump pull down menus” - professional looking pull down menus used as navigation tabs. They jump to the appropriate page when you pull down and click.
The second item is a single Flash animation that I want to add to my home page.
I don’t have the time to learn the skills and code to implement the pull down menus and Flash file. (I do own Flash and so, that part won’t be a problem.)
Here's my main site: www.PeterSolon.com. (If that one is down, go to www.PSolon.com). The jump menus would replace my navigation tabs and the Flash movie would involve an animation of the starburst.
For whatever it's worth, my sites are not money makers – they’re a labor of love – online journals for people who are into A Course In Miracles - the model that I teach.
    Thank you very much.

  • Problem with button on Flash intro page.

The Flash intro movie on my site index page ends with an
"enter" button which links to the home page. When people view the
movie on the web, the cursor has to be directly over individual
font characters for the link to work. If you move the cursor ever
so slightly off a piece of the white text the cursor changes back
to a black arrow and cannot be clicked.
How do I get the entire box area of the button to be a link
and not just the text characters?

Is this a button symbol? If so, the hit frame of a button is
    never seen

    active area of
    the button. -Tom Unger

  • Flash intro's

    Hi,
I'm new to flash, I program in CSS with dreamweaver, however I downloaded a Flash Intro Template for my site, I have no trouble editing the text and pictures though I can't figure out how to connect it to my index page. It seems like the code is hidden. I want it to end and then fade into my index page created in css, I figure there is a place I can plug in the URL to do this?
In my library there is a folder labeled buttons, in there there is a button labed replay and hidden, is there an html code within this hidden button that I can edit?
Please any help is much needed.
I attached a screen shot of my flash page

You're not likely to find much of any html code inside the file, especially not inside a button symbol.  If you can show an image of your main timeline, the stage, and maybe any code that might live in the first and last frames, then someone might be able to help figure things out.  To see code, look for little "a"'s in the timeline.... select the frame and open the Actions window (Window -> Actions).

  • Putting a flash (swf) animation into iWeb

A similar question was asked previously -- how to put a Flash file into an iWeb site.
The answer --- which apparently works starts like this --- 1) Open your iDisk and open the "Web" folder. Inside of that, open the "Sites" folder. >>>
My problem is, I don't have an "iDisk." I actually have 7 different "Web" folders on my system. And he only time "iDisk" appears on a search related to "classic application."
Can someone tell me where to find the right folder?

I have found that IDisk is for .mac members -- I am one.
How do I access my iDisk?

  • Putting Flash Intros on my site?

I have Dreamweaver CS4 and I want to put a Flash intro on my

    >>The splash screen becomes the index
    Yup!
And just for the record, when a prospective client demands a
    splash page or
autoplay music I refuse to build the site. Not saying you or
    anyone else
    should do that.
There's an old joke about a man asking a woman if she would
    sleep with him
for $1M. She says, "Absolutely; Yes!" He then asks, "Will you
    sleep with me
for $10?". She replies vehemently, "Hell No! What do you
    think I am?" To
which he replies, "We have already established that. Now we
    are merely
    negotiating the price."
To me, if I tell a client or prospect that auto play music or
    a splash page
will be significantly counterproductive and they should not
    even consider
either and then I go ahead and add either to the site, I'm
    nothing more than
    what that woman was.
    You see I don't think my primary goal is to please my client;
    that's my
secondary goal. My primary goal is to please my client's
    prospective
clients/customers. Not surprisingly, when I am unencumbered
    in pursuing my
primary goal I routinely accomplish that secondary goal.
That's just me. Not saying you should take that rigid
    position, but you
might want to at least think about it. ;-)

  • Flash files in iWeb site hosted by Godaddy?

Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
I'm trying to see how to use a few .swf files (flash) in my site which I built and maintain with iWeb.
I had set them up back in the .mac days and they were able to work. When .mac ended, I switched the hosting to Dropbox which worked fine (though a little slow) but I guess I hadn't checked those .swf animations. When I was preparing to move the site to GoDaddy recently, the animations weren't working.
My site is now up and running on GoDaddy and I'd like to get those animations working. I've googled/searched for information, but all the info seems to be about using idisk or .mac. Since those no longer exist, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do it.
Anybody know how to use .swf files in an iWeb site hosted on Godaddy?
    Thanks!

Upload the files in a folder to the root folder on the server using an FTP app. This page is about audio files but it's the same method for flash...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/AudioFiles/Upload.html
Then reference each file in an iframe code. See this page for more info...

  • Need Help Adding Flash Intro To Existing Site

OK I'm helping a buddy of mine out and he's already got his sie built for him by someone else, the index file is .php. Now I've got this little Flash animation that we want to run first, then when it's done go to his website. When I try to add it to the top of the index page all that happens is the site loads like in normally did but with the Flash movie at the top instead of being another page. What do we need to do to have it load on it's own first?

yes.  the index.html should embed your flash intro swf and at the end to your swf (and in a skip intro button code) you should open the current main page (using getURL or navigateToURL).

  • Merge iweb sites from multiple user accounts on same computer

With the previous iweb version, my children created their own iweb sites on their own users, but all under my own .mac account. It worked great.
But now with the new "upgraded" iweb '08, that isn't allowed anymore.
So, I created a new user on our computer for all of us to use to maintain our multiple iweb accounts on.
How can I move multiple iweb sites from multiple users on the same computer into one user?

Each of the user's work in iWeb will be contained in a single file, Domain.sites2, which can be found in this location on the hard drive for each user account. You will need to copy all of these Domain.sites2 files to an external drive, or, at the very least, burn them to a disk to make them transferable from one user account to another. A flash drive also works great for this.
Once you have made all of these Domain files accessible from the new user account that you created, you will still have a formidable task ahead of you, i.e., publishing separate sites, from separate Domain.sites2 files, to the same .Mac account/directory. In other words, bringing all of these Domain files together for access by a single user account will not solve the problem. You may very well be able to solve the problem with things the way they are, but it will involve some shuffling of Site's files on the iDisk prior to publishing.
The method I'm going to give you has worked well for me. So far, here in the forums, I've read posts from (2) other users who were also successful. Conversely, I know of at least (3) other users who have been unsuccessful with this approach. I sure hope it works for you.
Open System Preferences and go to .Mac. Turn syncing off, if it is on, and leave it off.
Now, in Finder, navigate to the current Site files on your iDisk, following this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/NameOfSiteFolder
Drag the Site folder that is named for your site, (not the directory Site folder), back one level on the iDisk, into the Web folder. This is where some run into difficulties--you may get an error message that the folder is "in use, and cannot be moved". I have never gotten this message, and am able to move my Site's folders around with no problem on the iDisk.
If you are successful moving the folder, choose one of your other accounts on your machine, launch iWeb, and Publish all to .Mac. The existing site on the server will not be deleted. Now, go back to the iDisk and move that site folder, (the one you just published), back one level, again, to the root Web directory. Publish your next site, from your next account.
When you are finished publishing sites, just move the Site folders back to their original location on the iDisk--Web/Sites/SiteFoldersHere. All sites will be accessible from a browser using the web.mac.com/username/nameofsite url.
It is important to use the Publish all to .Mac command in iWeb. A simple Publish to .Mac command will not put the correct index.html file in place on the server.
Post back and inform us of your success.

  • How can I import my html flash intro into Muse?

I created a flash intro using Tumult Hype.
I just designed a website in Adobe Muse and I'd like to insert my flash intro to be the first screen on my website. I'd also like to link it so that when i click "enter" it takes me to the home page of my site.
How can i do this? I've read numerous articles and forums on this problem and no one seems to have the solution.
    Someone PLEASE HELP!

Use the code below... Upload your tumult file to your server as i don't think this will work locally. Insert an HTML object on your first page in Muse ( Home/Index.html ) and paste the code below in the object, change the URL in the code to point to your Tumult document. You may have to use an absolute path to other pages when you click the enter button for example http://www.yoursite.com/otherpage.html which will then take you to other pages in your muse document. Let me know if you run into issues...
Adding iframes to your site to display other site pages with embedded HTML
In addition to using embedded HTML to insert code you've pasted from a third-party website, you can also embed an entire web page within an iframe using the same method. For example, you can type a code snippet like this:
    <iframe title="A Title for this Content" src="http://yoururlhere.com" width="900" height="500" style="border: 0;"></iframe>
In the code above, replace the text in the title="" and url="" with the desired external web page's title and URL. You can also customize the width and height of the iframe window to the desired values to fit your site's design.
Optionally, you can also add an attribute that ensures the iframe will not display a scrollbar by adding this to the opening iframe tag:
    scrolling="no"
By choosing Object > Insert HTML, you can open a new HTML Code window and embed an iframe anywhere on your site and then set any URL (site address, such as www.google.com) to display a site that is live on the Internet inside it.
You can also use an iframe to embed animation, such as the HTML5 animations created in Adobe Edge. Find the name of the HTML file created by Adobe Edge and use that file name in your iframe's URL attribute:
    <iframe src="Project-Header-r1v1.html" width="100%" height="100%" scrolling="no">
    </iframe>
