Flash Player Detection

I am trying to implement flash player detection using the
Flash Player Detection Kit - the actionscript way ie. using
the 'flash_detection.as' and the 'flash_detection.swf', (not
forgetting the 'update_flash.html' file also! )
I put the swf onto my 'index.html' - it being the first page
that is accessed when anyone goes onto our site - and I altered the
.as file to direct users once they had installed FPlayer8 to a page
called trueindex.html ( which was a copy of index.html without the
flash_detection.swf on it )
All that happened when it had installed flash player 8 was to
keep going back to index.html over and over again!
Because of a desire to sort out flash player detection issues
previously, I had already changed the code on index.html to include
the java script stuff to check for version 8 ( you could look at
the source code on the index page )
I'm just a little clueless as what to do now - my main desire
is to let the un-initiated install the flash player ver8 without
having to restart their PC or do a lot of messing about!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The html wrapper code generated by Flex Builder does this
automatically if you have Project, Flex compiler, use Express
Install checked.

  • Active X and Flash Player Detection

I am using the newe Flash Player Detection generated from
Flash 8 to look for Flash 6 or higher. It all works well when
tested until one user decided to remove the Active X control for
Flash but leave the Flash Player installed. When he came back to
the page he was able to see the Flash content.
    1. Why can the Flash Content be viewed if the Active X is not
    available?
    2. Is the Active X just used in the installation of the Flash
    Player?
    Thanks.

What does that mean .. how can he remove the flash player
    leave it
    installed.. it makes no sense.
Unless, of course, he was using a browser other than IE (eg
    FireFox) which
uses the Flash Player control add-on (Firefox et al do not
    use ActiveX)

If you use a browser that does not use activex controls, then
    the presence
of the activex version of the player makes no difference.

I Need Help for the popup message every time I go to safari: "Warning! Old version of Adobe Flash Player detected. Please download new version."???

If you are talking about Safari on the iPad, there is no version of Adobe Flash for iOS and there never has been. Clear Safari, close the app and reset the iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you are talking about Safari on your Mac, you are in the wrong forum. But I would still clear the cache, quit Safari and restart the Mac.

  • Flash Player Detection Kit License

    Hi,
I was wondering what the license was for distributing the
Flash Player Detection Kit? And actually not the whole kit, just
the AC_OETag.js file itself. I can find information on licensing
the player itself, but nothing on the kit code.
    Thanks,
    Diana

There is no license for it. You can use the .js files as you
    see fit.
That said, I am rabidly trying to get all our detection
technotes updated to let people know the following...
Note: As of the October 15, 2008 release of Flash Player 10,
Adobe recommends that developers use SWFObject2 for Flash Player
detection. For more information see the SWFObject page at Google
    code (
    http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/)
or "Detecting Flash Player versions and embedding SWF files with
SWFObject 2" on the Adobe Developer Connection. The following
information effects the Flash Player Detection Kit, which should
continue to work correctly with Flash Player 10.

  • Flash player detection kit question

    Hi,
I'm looking into implementing the flash player detection kit onto our website. I found a good resource about this but had a question: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/fp8_detection.html
It looks like the flash player detection kit is focused on flash player 8. Are there any differences as to how to handle this situation for flash player 9 or 10, or will the kit work for all? Please note that I am not a flash developer, but am doing research to advise our IT folks as to how we should go about setting up proper flash detection on our site.
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

the flash program publishes an html with flash detection added to the html page.  it detects the needed player version.
you can also use swfobject for reliable swf embedding and player detection.

  • Flash Player Detection Kit - Help With Ad...

    HI all,
I want some advice regarding the Flash Player Detection Kit ( http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/download/detection_kit/ ). I would like to embed the detection process in just one file. Hence  how can I embed a detection code into the flash file, so once its  exported to swf, it'll have the detection code already and no additional  files are needed?
    Thanks in advanced.

Seems the reasoning is a little off. If the Flash detection is in the Flash .swf.... but the browser has no Flash plugin.. the .swf would never be read by the browser... hence no "Flash detection" scheme would be implemented.
That's why Flash detection has to take place out-side of the .swf, by the browser... exactly like .swfobject does.

First time login to Share. After inputting my Adobe id and

  • Flex Ajax bridge - flash player detection

Does anyone know of a Flex HTML wrapper template which
handles the express install (with history) user experiences in a
manner which is compatible with the lifecycle of the Flex/Ajax
bridge? Assuming JavaScript is enabled, the express install process
creates the embed DOM node for the SWF dynamically; however, the
FABridge scripts assume that the embed node(s) exist within the
DOM; the the initialisation of the FABridge queries the DOM for
‘bridge’ instances (i.e. embed tags with the relevant
flash vars). If the embed node is not present, the
FABridge.instances object is not initialised correctly. This causes
two problems: firstly, attempting to register an initialisation
callback in the FABridge will fail, since the bridge instance is
not known. Secondly, the ExternalInterface call from the Flash
component to signify that it has successfully initialised does not
have an endpoint to communicate with, meaning that the client side
    lifecycle cannot be instantiated.
If anyone has come across a useful strategy to approach this
problem, I'd be hugely grateful for any pointers.
    Thanks, Greg

  • Flash player not detected since latest update?

This morning when I logged onto my machine, I was notified
that there was an update to the Adobe Flash Player. I went ahead
and let it install. Afterward, I went to a website to do some work,
but found when I got there that the site's flash player detection
code was failing, and I was provided with a link to download the
latest version. So, I went to Adobe's site and ran the install
again, and it went to the screen where the little flash movie pops
up to show that the install was successful. However, upon returning
to the website I originally came from, it was still not detecting
    the Flash Player!
I went directly to Adobe's website, and even their front page
isn't detecting the flash player, as it put me at an static version
of the site. I tried going into the control panel page for the
Flash Player, due to reading a forum post here saying there was som
cab file thing I might need to mess with to fix this problem, but
the control panel page just notifies me that I need to download the
    player.
When even the creator's home page doesn't recognize that I've
installed its product, that seems like a serious problem to me.
I've gone to a number of other sites with heavy flash content, and
95% of them told me to download the latest version of the Flash
Player. I think something about the player's detection process is
broken. I even completely uninstalled the player and reinstalled it
from scratch, and it's still not working.
    Any ideas?
ADDENDUM: This appears to be an IE 7 issue, as Firefox is
having no trouble getting the player detected.

After JUST posting the above message i found another thread
on this site that is focusing on the same problem. I found a
solution in that thread that worked with a few mods for XP. Again I
am running XP SP2 and IE6.
Here's the solution as posted, I think for a Vista user that
was experiencing the same behavior from Flash:
    1. Go to WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash and find uninstaller
    2. After you run uninstaller the "Flash" folder should
disappear itself...if not, you manually delete it
    3. Install the flash player again with the file you download
    from adobe
    http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi
I followed step 1, but the only uninstaller i could find in
the Flash folder was an unistaller for the Flash9.ocx, so i ran it.
It however did NOT delete the Flash folder itself, so i did what
step 2 recommended and deleted the Flash folder altogether. Then I
    went to Adobe's site at
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
and downloaded the Flash9 installer, ran it, and bingo! Flash works
    again.

  • No prompt to update when Flash Player Settings Manager is set to check for updates automatically

My understading of http://forums.adobe.com/message/3562892#3562892 (March 2011) is that when an outdated version of the Player is used on Windows, the prompt to update should occur after the next restart of the operating system.
So, when http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ in Safari for Windows shows an outdated version 10.x of the Player:
    I restart Windows
    I log on
    I wait a few minutes.
    Problem
Usually, no matter how long I wait, there is no prompt to update; Flash Player Settings Manager continues to show an outdated plug-in alongside a greater version of the ActiveX item.
I see this problem with multiple computers running Windows XP and Windows 7.
    Any suggestions?

Flash Player checks for updates every 7 days. The NCP doesn’t change this.  Where the user in that post is getting confused is that only after Flash Player detected an update (on average 3.5 days after a new version is released), the dialog will appear after a restart.

  • Install Flash Player 9 on a secured Intranet

We need to update all flash players in the company to version
9 to get Flex build apps available.
We tried the Flash Player Detection Kit and Flash Player
    auto-update without succes!
Problem is we have a few 1.000 employees without Interent
access and without install rights on their desktop/notebook. So we
need to do a 'quiet' installation/update from within our company
    Intranet. Is this possible?
Ps.: MSM is not an option (for the moment).
    Is this possible?

Seems like this is not possible though.
Maybe Adobe should prior take care of an easy way to
distribute their latest Flash player over an Intranet.
Without that Flex is useless for Intranet developers.

  • Can I bundle flash player with a free downlodable gaming service that requires flash? Or can I download it for the user without making users to step out  from my product to a completely different flow?

We have a free downloadable gaming service that requires flash player in order to operate properly.
I am trying to figure our how can I make users who don't have flash to download it, but I don't want these users to leave my service and start a different download flow in a different website (adobe's) .
I thought about several different options but don't know what would be considered legal or legit:
    1. download flash along with my product- this means I will have to add another offer screen to my installation? if so, it will damage my conversion.
    2. downloading flash for the user without consent- probably will result with AV alerts
    3. open an iframe for users who don't have flash where I'll ask users to download flash--> that still will redirect users to adobe website to complete the process, which will damage my usage...
any comments on the above or additional ideas?
    Thanks
    Tom

Unfortunately, I don't think that our license currently grants the rights that you're looking for.  We do allow for the inclusion of original installers on physical media to address the situation of installation where an Internet connection is not guaranteed to be available; however, the Adobe download center serves an important role in the cost-recovery efforts for the continued development, maintenance and distribution of Flash Player, which is a tremendously expensive undertaking. I think it's unlikely that we would agree to allow the inclusion of Flash Player installers in scenarios where the host installer requires an internet connection.
Here is a brief summary of the rights granted by this license:
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple clients in a closed intranet environment.
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple end-users by including the Player installers on CDs, DVDs or other physical media.
Usage of Adobe Web Players is only permitted for supported platforms; usage rights on non-PC devices or embedded systems are not granted by this license.
Licensee must use the installers as-is without modification.
Licensees, at their discretion, are entitled to display the Flash Enabled and/or Shockwave logos on products or intranet sites according to the Style Guide.
On the plus side, you don't have to worry about serving your users outdated or vulnerable Flash Player versions, and keeping those embedded copies constantly updated would be a lot of overhead.
Chrome and Internet Explorer on Win8+ always have Flash Player built-in, so those users are generally going to be in good shape (and you shouldn't redirect them to the download anyway, because we'll just give them a message about it already being installed).  IE11 eliminates JavaScript support for conditional comments and various other methods for fingerprinting and targeting IE with IE-specific logic, so you'll want to pay attention to that experience, particularly on Win8+ (i.e. your detection logic might need to be tweaked on this config, if it's depending on isMSIE to do the correct thing... there is a lot of busted Flash detection in the world on this target at the moment...)
For NPAPI browsers (Safari, Firefox), users are going to have to close the browser to complete the install process, so I don't think that offering the download in an iframe is going to buy you much, and would probably make it more difficult to complete the installation steps, ultimately doing more harm than good.
In the case of Safari, the installer re-launches Safari at the end of the installation process, and it does so without reopening all of the previously opened tabs.  I'm hoping that we won't have to live with that issue much longer, but I want to be transparent about the impact to your user experience.  Safari users are going to lose the tab with your site in it during the installation process no matter what.
There's also an install mechanism called Express Install, which you can invoke automatically when you detect that Flash Player is not installed, or is below the version that you require.  Off the top of my head, I don't know exactly what happens in every possible install scenario (patch update vs. feature update, by OS and browser).  I think some configs require you to restart and others like IE on Windows don't.  It's all dictated by browser limitations, which are constantly moving targets.
In short, we recommend that everyone use SWFObject2 for detecting Flash from JavaScript, and they make it pretty easy to invoke upgrades via ExpressInstall.
