Flash Player to USB Drive

What steps are necessary to copy Adobe Flash Player to a usb drive?

Flash Player is a browser add-on that resides in the system area; it cannot be copied to a USB drive.
Unless you are talking about the installer; you can download offline installers from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Or you are talking about the standalone player (Projector), which you can download from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-129 Crisis Recovery Mode Phoenix BIOS with USB drive

When flashing my BIOS back from v4.20 to a v3.90 I found on the net, everything went alright in windows, but as soon as I rebooted, the laptop showed the symptoms of a failed BIOS.
I'm now trying to repair the BIOS using the crisis recovery tool. I used the following procedure to create the USB stick and recover the BIOS
-Run the WINCRIS.Exe file in administrator and compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2)
-Select the USB drive (1GB Kingston), and format it with the tool
-Reinsert the drive and format again with the tool without restarting it to be sure that the disk is properly formatted
-Take the BL5S3D57.WPH file from the toshiba BIOS update and rename it to BIOS.WPH, and copy to the Crisdisk directory
-Copy the files BIOS.WPH (the one from toshiba I renamed), minidos.sys and winphlash16.exe to the drive in windows
    -Take the drive out
-Plug battery out, plug AC out of laptop, hold the power button for a few seconds to make sure no remaining current is in the laptop
    -Plug the USB Drive in
-Hold Fn+Esc in my case, this is the key combination where the laptop tries to read the USB drive the moment it boots up. It has something to do with enabling a boot block in the BIOS with that key combination.
-Plug AC in while still holding the F button
The F button does not nescessarily need to be held while plugging in AC, the laptop also tries to read from the drive if I hold it after plugging AC in, and before pushing the power button.
    -Press the power button
I need to push the button twice, because the first time after plugging in AC the power button doesn't do a thing. When holding the power button for around 10 seconds after right after plugging AC in, the laptop boots sometimes, didn't find a pattern yet here.
The easy thing however is to just push the button 2 or 3 times, then it boots, and the booting procedure seems exactly the same as when holding the power button
-Wait for the LED to flash on the USB Drive. Very important: it seems to only flash ONCE for me, so it means it tries to access the drive, but I think it doesn't contain the right files or isn't formatted correctly. If I keep holding the F button while the laptop is on, the LED flashes once every 10-20 seconds.
From here on out the laptop is supposed to be reading the BIOS files from the USB drive, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. So here comes my question:
What could I be doing wrong in formatting the drive or writing the files to it?
Do I have the wrong CRISDISK? Is it normal that the files arent copied by CRISDISK to the USB Drive and that I have to do it myself?
Am I using the wrong WinPhlash? Or should I use the files that are supplied in the official BIOS rar from toshiba?
I have tried different versions of CRISDISK, different USB Drives (one 4GB would not be read by the broken laptop, and another 1GB would not be read by CRISDISK when trying to format the drive)
Tried different files on the USB Drive, tried bios.wph instead of capitals, tried BIOS.FD,...
I'm kind of running out of options here to try. Is there anyone who has experience with this recovery mode flashing that could tell me what I might be doing wrong? Or that has any suggestions on which other CRISDISK or toshiba updates to use?
Thanks anyways to people who read this and try to help!

I hope that Russian service provider will be as honest as the European one and won't solder something out as a souvenir :)
They said, it will take approximately a week.
Serviceman said that L30 has no built-in crisis recovery routine.
So I wasted money by buying an USB floppy disk drive and risked to burn something in my laptop by frequent powering it on and off (and may be burnt, will see).
The lesson I learnt is never flash BIOS if everything works and if even flash then not from Windows (btw. I flashed successfully my Satellite A300 from Windows without any problems).
Phoenix makes its BIOSes since 2001 with a crisis recovery boot block, but Toshiba locks this feature in many laptops, I think, not without a reason. Service providers want money too :)

  • Booting from clone on a USB drive?

    Hi.
I was thinking of installing SL to a Corsair Flash Voyager 16GB USB drive, and to carry that around in case my MBP ever died when I'm out 'n' about.
I'll be using external drives to handle data, so the USB would be just to boot from.
    Good plan..?

Wow - this thread has grown!
I don't think I explained myself enough. I work with video cameras that require frequent downloading and archiving of data. This means being as lightweight as poss. Unfortunately I already have to lug around two G-Tech hard drives which the client takes away, so carrying a third (which may never even be used) isn't too attractive and the idea of a bootable USB which just carries the OS and the really important progs seemed nice.
On the other hand, you say it's slow? I hadn't expected that. And this job involves moving around multiple tens of GB of data quickly, so anything that introduces a bottleneck...
Maybe I'm better off with a 5 1/2" in a decent enclosure, like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Technology-GDM4-500-EMEA-G-Drive/dp/B002RAXML0/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&qid=1288727611&sr=8-4 . Bit of a price difference though...
    Thanks for then input.

  • Using Ipod as a Flash USB Drive

I'm planing to buy an Apple IPod Shuffle, but I would like to use it more like a portable USB Drive, to transfer any kind of files, like Word documents, small video files, pictures, etc.
I understand that the ONLY way I can listen music directly form the IPod Shuffle is by adding the songs trough Itunes. But, for example, if I fill the IPod with several songs , and after that I put it in DISK MODE to take it to school and ad other type of files, will I be able to listen songs normally? or I have to disable the Disk Mode in order to use it as a music player?
    Thanks for your time.

My personal experience is that I have been able to use the Shuffle as a flash drive, even on my work computer where there are no special drivers or any iTunes software (it runs XP, as does the computer I used to set up the Shuffle). I simply used the slider in iTunes to set aside a certain amount of space, 32 megs in my case, for file storage. I've not had a problem on any computer, although it appears that people's experiences differ. I am pretty sure that you need to have disc mode enabled and file space set aside on your Shuffle's "home computer."

  • Problems with RAID and a Flash USB Drive

I'm attempting to install on a RAID 1 array using just one usb flash drive.  Yes, just one.  I'm trying out the idea's in this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64281
    Partitioning scheme:
    sdb1 -> boot partition
    sdb2 -> swap
    sdb3 -> raid 1 array -> root
I set the partitiions to type 0xfd (linux raid autodetect) in fdisk (probably not necessary) and created the array with:
    mdadm -C /dev/md0 -n 2 -l -b internal missing -W --write-behind /dev/sdb3
I then installed like normal, specifying that I needed usb and raid hooks in mkinitcpio.conf
I added "md=0,/dev/sdb3" as a kernel option in grub's menu.lst, specifying that the md driver should assemble /dev/md0 (my root partition) out of /dev/sdb3 before trying to mount it.
This process was succesful using a partition on my hard drive.
However, using a usb drive causes a kernel panic during boot when trying to mount /dev/md0.
Looking at the messages reveals that before my usb drive was detected, md attempted to create the array, unsuccessfully, as /dev/sdb didn't exist yet.  "md: unkown device name /dev/sdb3" or something to that effect.
In mkinitcpio.conf, the usb hook comes before the raid hook, so this shouldn't be happening, should it?

I think rootdelay will not work in that special case, rootdelay makes the system to wait after all the hooks are executed, and you need to wait before executing the raid hook.
I don't know if there is an easy way for that, but one solution is to modify the raid hook to wait for /dev/sdb3 to be created :
    - edit /lib/initcpio/hooks/raid, add this before the /bin/mdassemble command :
    until [ -e /dev/sdb3 ] ;
    do
    sleep 1 ;
    done
    - rebuild your boot images with mkinitcpio (you'll need to chroot to your system)
    that should work
PS: someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I know, the usb hook does not create your /dev/sdb (if you edit the usb hook, you'll see that it only set rootdelay if it is not yet set). it is the udev daemon, which is launched in the background by the udev hook, and the udev daemon is quite long to create USB device nodes.

  • Flash Player 16.0.0.235 breaks audio driver on Windows

There is a severe bug in the latest version of Flash Player, relating to audio playback on Windows. Ever since upgrading to v16.0.0.235, Flash has been repeatedly breaking audio playback for the entire Windows system (i.e. every application that tries to play back audio, not just Flash itself). This happens regardless of the browser in which Flash is run (tested: Firefox 34.0.5 and Chrome 39.0.2171.95).
There seem to be two "levels" of crashing the audio driver. Both are triggered by simply using Flash content with audio for a while (examples in my case would be MP3 previews on Amazon.com, or YouTube videos).
In a "level 1" crash, Flash elements on pages will just suddenly stop playing back any audio. Some content, such as Amazon MP3 previews, will just skip over all the tracks as each player fails to start audio playback. YouTube videos will play for 1 second without sound, retry using a lower-quality stream, repeat until there are no more streams left and then report that there has been a playback error. No other Windows application is able to play back sound anymore either. They will either fail with some error message related to audio playback, or simply run without sound. (Examples: foobar2000, Spotify, VLC media player...).
A level 1 crash is relatively easy to fix by killing the Flash Player process. If for example the crash happened while using Firefox, I have to kill "plugin-container.exe" or the FlashPlayer executable using the task manager. Once Flash has been killed, it will restart as soon as another Flash content is being played back, and sound will be working again, in Flash and all other Windows applications. I once tried to shut down Windows while in this level 1 crash state, and the shutdown got hung up on trying to quit Windows Explorer, which reported the status message "Playing back logoff sound", which it failed to do for 5+ minutes and just kept trying endlessly. I had to cancel system shutdown, kill the FlashPlayer process first, and then I could shut down Windows.
Sometimes after a few level 1 crashes and restores, there will be a level 2 crash. Now, audio playback will not just fail for applications, but every application that tries to play back audio will freeze completely. Firefox will freeze. It thaws once I kill FlashPlayer, but will freeze again immediately if some other page content loads FlashPlayer again. A tab in Chrome that uses Flash with audio will immediately freeze. Spotify will no longer report an audio playback issue as in level 1, but will freeze when trying to play back a track. Same for any other application I tried. Unfortunately, I haven't found a fix for a level 2 crash short of rebooting the entire system. Killing all Flash-related processes wasn't enough. Not even rebooting the audio driver (by disabling and re-enabling the audio device in Windows' device manager) did the trick.
    My system specs:
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Adobe Flash Player 16.0.0.235
ASUS Xonar D2X audio interface (driver: v7.12.8.1794)
    On-board Realtek High-Definition Audio interface (driver: v6.0.1.6449)
The Realtek audio is normally not in use, but Flash will crash either audio driver, whichever is active at the moment).
After downgrading to Flash Player 15 I haven't experienced any crashes anymore.
Any help or insight is appreciated!
Edit: the issue seems to be Flash crashing the Windows audio service. I tried stopping and restarting the audiosrv and AudioEndpointBuilder services while in level 2 crash state, both of which failed because neither service reacts to stop/start commands anymore.

I have this EXACT problem as well. I'd like to add that when either 'level' of crash occurs, when I attempt to play a video or audio file through Windows Media Player, I receive the error message: "Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, and then try again" I checked on the task manager and I have plenty of RAM remaining and this error message only occurs when I am experiencing this issue so I am sure that it is caused by this.

  • Can Flash Player be installed on an external hard drive?

I have this game I am trying to install on an external hard drive that requires Flash Player and even though it is installed on my computer the game keeps popping up with Flash Player is required for this install. Would you like to install it now? Is there any way to install Flash Player on my external or get the game's installer to recognize it being on the hard drive. I don't want to install the game to my computer. Thanks for any help.

Flash Player is installed on the Windows system32 and syswo64 folders; it cannot be installed anywhere else.
What does that game require: the ActiveX control, or the plugin?  If in doubt, install both.

  • Flash Player Security Settings per your D:/ drive...

    Hi,
For anyone who read my post earlier in the day, I apologize for the redundancy; this is a new issue for me.
I've been working on an e-learning product using Flash Builder; it was developed to be web-based, but the client has changed the requirement and now they have requested a stand-alone dvd drive-based deliverable.
The project consists of a Main.html(launched per autorun.inf), Main.swf(which loads into Main.html no problem from the disk), and multiple .flv files - so Main.swf loads into Main.html from D:\ , but none of the .flv's will load. However, once I trust D:\ per going to the [Flash Player Settings Manager>Trusted Location Settings>add my D:\ drive to the Trusted File or Folder Location], everything runs well.
    My questions are:
    Why is that an issue?
Is there a way around it?
    What am I doing wrong?
Since everything is fully contained and running locally from the  D:\ drive, why does the Flash Player need me to trust that device in order to run the content? I t seems completely counter-intuitive which leaves me boggled.
When I build a release, everything works perfectly locally(without trusting the C:\ drive(obviously)), once I burn the files to disk the external content won't load until trusting D, and what's even MORE, when I copy the content "burned to disk" locally, it won't play either until I trust the C:\ drive!!
Little help, please? I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't find anything online.
    Thanks in advance,
    ~Chipleh

    Hi mocca,
Thanks again for your reply. You are giving me things to re-think about, I thought about all these options yesterday, but now that you mention them as the solutions, I will re-think with more gusto. A few things I'm still dwelling on:
    Why is that an issue?
Because the users system settings should always override anything that comes from a disk... Same with any programm on my computer, if somwhere from a network/external drive wants to open my browser without my consent, why should it?
Agreed. It should not. However, per the paradigm of my project on disk, the user launches the browser, the browser loads the swf, but the loading of all the other content is restricted. That seems counter-intuitive - since the user has already launched the main app, they obviously trust the app to run on their box, but they now have to go through an extra 'security layer' step in order to load the accompanying content.
As per publishing to Air, I tried yesterday and Flash Builder kicked all sorts of errors. I'll try publishing to air more today...
In the mindset of the great John Peterman: "Ah, the 'client changing requirements', where the client's expectations are high, the knowledge of the "level of effort" is low, and the process is terribly frustrating."
    Thx again,
    Chipleh

  • Quicktime Player not playing from USB drives

Throwing this at the Gurus out here,
Got an interesting issue going on with my USB drives. I have media that won't open with Quicktime on two 3TB USB drives, but if I move the media to Macintosh HD it runs. I checked permissions on the drives and am able to run the media (photos, audio or video) with Quicktime Player 7, but not with the normal Quicktime Player.
    Any hints? Thanks.

Never mind. After I had uninstalled, reinstalled, updated everything...
it still needed one more reboot. Then it worked again.

  • Flash Player Drive on Desktop?

    Hi,
After the most recent round of updates for Safari (which forces you to update Adobe Flash Player) I have had to download flash again. After download, a hard drive type icon with "Adobe Flash Player" appears on my desktop and, in "Finder" it shows itself as a completely seperate device. Is this normal?
I know these icons can be hidden using system preferences - is this the best thing to do if I don't want it on my desktop, or can i equally move it onto another area of my computer?
    Cheers

It's a disk image icon. Drag to the Trash to eject it.

  • Flash Player tries to install to Opera on a Network drive

I had to update Flash Player, and I ran the uninstaller, and
when I went reinstall it the installer reports "Copy to:
Z:/Opera..." Z is a network drive and I've NEVER used Opera on this
computer, the folder only exists on the other computer.
My problem is Flash acts like it's installed but even after
disconneting the Z: drive it still tries to install flash to a
browser I never use on a drive that no longer exists. I have no
idea why it decided to use Opera install of Firefox without
notifying or asking me, and I have no idea how to get it to install
to Firefox on the C: drive.
Any help? this is really bugging me.

Ok, I decided to try re-installing one more time and I'm not
sure why but this time it worked.
That "copy to" message threw me off, but I think the line
that just registered the components on my computer should have
worked, but for some reason it didn't at first so I thought Flash
was only going to the network drive.
Having those lines in the installer is really confusing
especially without an error "can't write to disk" or similar.
It's installed now, I believe if the installer came with
options it'd make it a lot easier/less confusing.

There is something wrong with the download that Adobe is pointing too. You can get the working download here:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_10.exe
    That solved my problem immediately.
I got this info from this post on the Adobe forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3947097#3947097
    Flash Download Problems
    WindowsXP SP3
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20110902 SeaMonkey/2.3.3
(Note well: Internally, SeaMonkey 2.3.3 is the same as Firefox 6.0.2. They both use the same Gecko 6.0.2 for rendering Web pages, interfacing with the Internet, downloading, etc.) They differ only in the user interface (menus, buttons, etc).
I see two problems when trying to download a new version of Flash Player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. .
    1. Your Web server is sniffing for my browser. I select the "Download now" button, and I get the same page all over again. The navigation is looping. If I spoof Firefox 6.0.2, however, I do get a download. This means you are sniffing for "Firefox" when you should be sniffing for "Gecko".
    2. While spoofing Firefox, the download gives me install_flashplayer10_chrd_aih.exe, which is not the installer for Flash Player 10.3.183.10. Instead, it is some kind of helper. To get the correct installer file, I had to search my archives to find the URI http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win /install_flash_player_10.exe.
Both of these problems were previously cited in this forum at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3885371. Neither problem has been fixed.
