Flash plugin use PAC (Proxy Auto Config)?

Hi,
I know the flash plugin uses the browser proxy settings.
But is this still true if the browser is set to use PAC
(proxy auto congifuration) files to do proxy settings?
Thanks,
Felix

  • Proxy Auto Config Web Test Plugin - VS 2012

    Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me with my problem. I've currently created a number of web tests which require a web test plugin in order to run. The issue that I am having is that our company proxy is via Proxy Auto Config file.
But I cannot find anything about passing this in to the WebProxy object.
Is there another option for me to pass the config file or url to the file so that my web tests will run correctly?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Pir.Rad,
This blog introduced how to set  proxy in web test plug-in:

  • Proxy auto-config (PAC) impacts ssh, scp, sftp

    Dear all,
I have this problem I am trying to find leads on how to understand and eventually solve it.
I am doing a lot of development under Unix. I'm spending most of my time at work on X11 (XQuartz) logged in on remote Unix servers using all "S" versions of standard protocols.  I'm under Snow Leopard because Lion is no good to my workflow (sorry to say this).
Since my employer has contracted an external company to filter all outgoing HTTPS traffic - and has updated the legacy proxy PAC file accordingly - I encounter huge latency problems with my ssh, scp and sftp traffic with my remote Unix servers : all "S" protocols are routed through the external company HTTPS filter.
I have created one Network Location (network sys prefs) that uses "Automatic Proxy Configuration" to point to the PAC file server (a).
I have create another Network Location that activates a distinct proxy setting for HTTP and the same for HTTPS protocols. I've set up as Web Proxy server the one defined as PROXY  in the PAC file (b).
Using (a) Network preference, all my ssh and scp traffic initiated under X11 is slow as a drag (10kb/s on a 100baseT full duplex to the server in the same building) because it gets piped through the external https traffic filter.
Using (b) Network preference, no problem at all with ssh and scp, and Safari can browse both http and https sites as per company rules.
My question is how can this setting of Network preference - combined with a PAC file - can influence a traffic that is secured through ssl but is not HTTP nor HTTPS !
I am looking for some documentation that would help me understand how Proxy auto-config is implemented in the network layer and if there are any recommendations I can do to my network team to fix their PAC file, perhaps, to restrict the proxy configuration to only http and https.
    Any lead will help.
    Thanks,
    Thierry
The PAC file (stripped of restricted info). Note: The remote servers I'm working on are in the 10/24 IP range and a segment of a Class B my company owns.
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
              var proxy = "PROXY XXX.YYY.ZZZ.1:80; PROXY XXX.YYY.ZZZ.2:80" ;
    if (
              shExpMatch(host, "10.*.*.*")  ||
              shExpMatch(host, "192.168.*.*")
              return "DIRECT";
    else

Ooops. Sorry, I meant "10/8", not "10/24" IP range.

  • Cannot set Proxy Auto Config in iPhone/iPad Configuration Profile

    Hi, All.
Our enterprise uses internal and external DNS, and we leverage Proxy Auto Config (PAC) files to determine how to resolve hostnames.
I can create a VPN Configuration Profile with the URL for the PAC file, so that when the VPN is enabled, it will start using the PAC file to resolve.
However, there is no such option in the WiFi Configuration Profile.
Any idea if there is a way to automate this, or if Apple intends to include this in a future version of iOS or iPCU?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Invoke Proxy Auto-Config functions from applet

    hello,
i heared that we can get proxy information for a URL from Proxy Auto-Config File(.pac), how can we invoke function FindProxyForURL(url, host) in the .pac file, so that i can use the returned proxy details in my java program?
or, i came to know that package org.mozilla.pluglet.mozilla contains few classes which does the same. from where i can download the package?
    thanks in advance....

i am also having this problem. i have been searching for atleast two days and have not yet succeded in finding the proxy address. i would be very thankful if someone who has done this before can help.

  • Access proxy from terminal using proxy auto-config

I know about using ntlmaps to wrapper my proxy configurations e get access from Terminal, iTerm2, &c exporting http_proxy variable and others. But I don't want go on using this approach because it simply ***** (forgive me for this word...) for a lot of issues.
I would like simply setup my proxy environment on Network Preferences/Advanced/Automatic Proxy Configuration: (host: http://myproxy/proxy.pac) and using this setup for a whole system, including my terminals. Therefore, are there any way to reach it?
Another details, my proxy is authenticated and uses ntlm type and in browser I use internet without problems.
Thanks a lot for any help!

I am not quite sure what you are looking for. Mac OS X has supported auto proxy configuration since 10.6 Snow Leopard was introduced (acutally in response to a request I made ). If you open System Preferences, click on Network, then go to the Advanced settings for your network interface, in the Proxies tab there is an option called Auto Proxy Discovery. This is different to Automatic Proxy Configuration which was also available in previous versions of OS X. Automatic Proxy Configuration uses a selected PAC file (Proxy Auto Configuration file) but Auto Proxy Discovery uses the WPAD method of finding your proxy server.
See this article for information about WPAD (Web Proxy Automatic Detection).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol
WPAD uses either an option advertised from your DHCP server giving the address of your proxy server, or WPAD can use a standard URL based on your domain name to download a dat file containing your proxy server details.
I have seen reports saying the the DNS method is problematic with Mac OS X but also seen reports that the DHCP method does work with this option successfully. So my suggestion is to define the DHCP option code 252 to advertise your proxy server.
Note: Thanks to yet another request I made in the past the Mac OS X DHCP Server can be manually configured to define additional DHCP option codes including option 252. The ability to define DHCP option codes was added in Mac OS X 10.5 Server (Leopard).

  • A lan address for proxy auto config in mozilla firefox!

i must type a lan or pac file address in network auto config proxy addres line.

It is not possible to enter internet information in the Advanced > Network > How Firefox connects to the internet> Settings... When you click on "Auto-detect proxy settings for this network" that option is greyed out. Auto detect detects the system configuration. Please make sure that the system proxy configuration is set up correctly.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • IE8 Crash with native install of IE11 and using pac proxy file.

This issue seems to be specific to a windows 7 with a native install of IE11 and using a proxy pac file for configuration.  From what I can gather from the logs, all the right files are getting loaded from the package.
This is happening on 32 and 64 bit machines.  The IE8 was captured per VMWare specs and the IEShims.dll fix has been applied.
I have tried the 'wow64=0' setting as well as the 'AltArchitectureShortcut=0' in the package.ini file.  Neither of these settings seem to help.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

Updated the original message to match the correct issue.
    Message was edited by: lcourson

So after much troubleshooting, I was able to find out that the file that was causing the issues is jsproxy.dll.  This file changed between Windows XP (which is where IE8 was captured from) and Windows 7.  There is one method missing in the XP version, InternetGetProxyInfoEx.  I only ran across this issue because we are using a pac file for our proxy assignments.  This seems to be a similar issue to the IEShims.dll fix from http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2038758.
This fix would be the same as the IEShims fix, copy the jsproxy.dll version from a windows 7 IE8 machine to the package and recompile.
Putting this out there in case anyone else runs across this issue.

  • When I tried to uninstall Flash plugin using windows, which brought up the Adobe uninstaller, with Firefox closed, it told me to close Firefox

This is the same problem with a new symptom. Following the Adobe troubleshooting process I uninstalled ver 9,0,45,0 of Flash plugin. I noticed that Flash ver 10 was listed--this is the version that failed to install correctly. I tried to uninstall it, and the Adobe uninstaller said to close Firefox, but Firefox was closed.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
The BlackBerry smartphone does not have an option to configure HTTP Proxy for Wi-Fi, this is by design. For more information please see the following article:

  • Java proxy auto-configuration and Microsoft PAC script extensions

    Hi,
Within our proxy auto-configuration PAC script, we have to use the Microsoft IPv6 PAC script extensions such as myIPAddressEx rather than the old myIPAddress. This is required in order to get the PC's internal 10.0.0.0/8 IPv4 address rather than the IPv6 or wi-fi card addresses that are often returned when using myIPAddress.
However, as soon as we change from myIPAddress to myIPAddressEx, Java seems to be unable to process the PAC script.
Here are the extensions (introduced many years ago:
IPv6-Aware Proxy Helper API Definitions (Windows)
Question - does Java support these extensions or have plans to?
    Thanks,
    Kev.

  • Firefox29, on a new win7 computer which has never had ff installed, will not install the latest flash plugin from adobe.

I promise to refrain from venting my disgust :-) but when FF 9 blew up the entire web. I had all kinds of issues so I did things like Bill Gates taught us to do. I re-installed windows 7, brand new, formatted HD and all. The very first thing I did was open IE to download FF29 from the mozilla site and it installed. I went to pages I know have fits with flash on purpose, www.nydailynews.com, for instance and got the message that no flash was installed, do I want to install it? Well, yes, I have brand new FF on a brand new computer, so to ahead. Did the usual, installed Flash, shut down, and even rebooted the computer, and golly gee, the web pages tell me I have no flash installed. Its in IE, and of course chrome, and it appears in the installed program control panel, but I can't use flash with FF 29.
I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled win 7, then installed ff 28. Went to adobe and installed their latest flash version, and still no flash in any version of firefox. I also checked the option to never update, but when I rebooted an opend FF29, it miraculously turned into FF29, and of course still does not work with the flash plugin.
I think firefox has had a world of trouble with Adobe Flash for over a year and have hoped for a solution. Basically a browser that cannot run Flash media is totally useless. I wonder why this problem was no addressed and corrected, when instead all the the resources were put into raping my computer and forcing FF29 onto it?
I am not a cry baby, who wants to complain, but will you please fix this issue so I don't have to abandon my favorite browser.. I don't enjoy Chrome, and IE is just not an option for me.
Before you make any moreoverhauls on the UI, could you fix the problems with flash. I find it a little condescending to tell a 25 year user of computers to make sure " you have the latest versions" when in fact I have a brand new install of windows and the very latest from Adobe and Mozilla and they do no wok together, even when I down grade to FF 28, which as I told you, automatically upgrades to FF 29 each time I boot up.
Please help. IF installing the latest Adobe onto a brand new hard drive and install of windows 7 fails, what do you suggest, as the usual " version issue" cannot apply here.
FWIW, I have vista on my laptop with the same problems, the same reinstalls and the same guaranteed latest versions. Since the hd is formtted, there cannot be an residual FF dlls hanging around or in the registry.
I have always seen open source as the way to the future, since the first PC arrived, but its looking like a bad idea.
If you want to build a firefox that works, I will pay for it, so long as I can get help when things break. Browsers are huge in the web, so paying for reliable performance seems like a fair thing to do.
I am sorry, but I am frustrated at the lack of progress towards a solution and really do not wish to be told to see if I am using the latest versions. I have taken every step possible and gone all the way to a brand new machine and FF does not work with flash reliably.
    Help? Please?

adobe test page says it is installed. but I said, some pages I visit say I don't have it installed.
I use prefbar ( I delete it and reinstall to make sure its not an issue) usually because it lets me turn off flash and avoid the crashing and locking up but when I check the flash block on prefbar, it says " plugin is not loaded"
I posted from the machine that does not work, but it does not work on my Vista Laptop, or my daughter's computer either. In all cases, I wiped the drives and reinstalled the OS and went directly to Firefox for 29 and to adobe for their latest.
Flash IS installed on my machine... It works in IE, and Chrome, but firefox 29 does not install the flash plugin, even tho the installer says all is well
The reason I went totally clean is to make sure there was no process blocking it or if Java was creating the issue as well. The reality is, I started with a brand new computer, three times, and Flash will not load into Firefox 29 in any case
I have started clean many times now and backed up and installed ff 28. I had no problem with the flash plugin using ff28, . I would have stayed there, but when shut down ff 28 and opened it later, it "magically downgraded to version 29" and i do mean " downgraded -( even tho I had gone into options and said do not install updates.
I am grateful for your attention. I find that web browsers are very important anymore, an a non functional one makes the web a waste. I mentioned www.nydailynews.com and would really not want to make a long list of every page that demands a flash plugin, for they are legion that I don't have, mostly because when the page wants flash, FF locks up. Its will not even let me copy the URL to try and make a list, but the browser is totally locked up and I have to kill the process I get the message I have been getting for about a year that the shockwave plugin has stopped working. There is no shockwave on my computer.
I know it looks like I have two different problems as the plugin does not load, but for instance, when I got it worrking in FF28, it loaded but constantly crashed an locked up the browser with the shockwave message, even tho I never install shockwave any time
Frustration is the word for the day, or the week :-)
    Thanks much
    Kind regards,
    John

  • Unloading a flash movie using Safari browser

I have MAC 10.4 and safari 2.0 browser.I run a flash movie(Instruction.swf) and after that the actual test for the student run.So while running The first movie i.e Instruction.swf I am not able to unload that movie using javascript in Safari 2.0 browser so that the actual test can run.It just hang up after finishing the movie. While in the other Mac and windows it is working fine.
    Please Help me.
    Thanks In Advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you mean to say, in other Mac and Windows web browsers it is working fine? If that's the case, it sounds like the version of Flash plugin used by the Safari plugin is probably older than the one used by the other web browsers.
With Safari Enhancer's enabling of the Debug menu you can force certain webpages to open in other web browsers. That would help streamline your viewing of those pages.
    http://www.lordofthecows.com/safari_enhancer.php
You can also enable the Debug menu with:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
    from the Terminal.
