Flash plugin with firefox 3, no sound [SOLVED]

Good morning.
I would like to report a problem that I have with the flashplugin in firefox. I installed it using the nspluginwrapper-flash 9.0.124.0-1 in AUR. It works, but I get no sound at all. I nstalled the suggested lib32-alsa-lib package, but nothing changed. When I launch firefox I get the following errors:
[valerio@angel4 ~]$ firefox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS5eax8dvB8

It tries to load the 32 bit flash plugin because it is in /usr/lib/mozilla, but I have the wrapped version in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins. The relevant error seems to be the no soundwrapper.
You might notice that I am running KDE4 svn but I don't think this has to do with the problem.
Did anyone have a similar problem?

The errors may not be diagnostic.  That video plays perfectly here despite all this lot:

I would check the installation of nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash because lib32-alsa-lib is listed as a dependency in the nspluginwrapper-flash PKGBUILD and so should not have to be installed manually.  Also, did you run "nspluginwrapper -v -a -i" as your user and not as root after installation?

  • Flash Plugin with Firefox 5 causes odd audio playing!

When I start Firefox 5, about a minute or so later, an audio clip/file starts playing on its own!   I think it's an audio file I created and have stored on this computer (of a band I once played in). This is a repeatable problem - it happens every time. The file is about 1.5 mins long and only plays once per Firefox session. If I go to the Addons Manager in Firefox and disable the Shockwave Flash plugin (the lastest version 10.3.181.34), the audio file immediately stops playing. If I reactivate this plugin subsequently, about a minute later the audio file starts its mysterious playing, again (one instance). I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Flash and the related plugin, cleared temp files, etc. all to no avail. I have tried to adjust the Flash Player's settings (using both local and so-called online), again, without success. I have very few other Firefox plugins and extensions running (I doubt that these are the issue, anyway). I don't encounter this with other browsers (Chrome and IE).
The computer is a Toshiba tablet pc running Windows XP SP3, all as updated as possible. There are NO other issues presently on this otherwise extremely smooth running computer. The problem happens whether I've got just Firefox running, or other programs up and running.
So, has anyone else encountered this issue? Any suggestions to remedy?

Thanks. Later today I'll be able to try that software utility.
I wonder if there is information known on the forum (any readers of this post) about what triggers Flash Player to play an audio file automatically (as opposed to clicking on a file to, in a sense, manually start a media file).
Are there any other audio settings available to users other than yes/no to web cam or microphone?

  • Flash plugin for Firefox: 2, 3 speed audio?

    Hi all,
I am having problem with audio using the flash plugin for Firefox.  The video
is OK but the audio seems to be played at double or triple speed, which sounds
    funy.
    Here is the address:
    http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6052333.ht … &subj=news
Anybody else had this problem before?

its playing in the background right now and sounds fine.  Motion is a little jerky but acceptable.
using the 2.6.16 kernel from testing firefox from current over a DSL line.
Is the rtc module loaded?  Otherwise at a loss (as usual)
BTW, that VW system is the last thing I need in my truck.  Would rather have a cup holder that works and a first gear that does not lose sync.

  • I can't install the Flash plugin for Firefox

I can't install the Flash plugin for Firefox (Firefox version 1.5.0). I've tried to install the latest version 9.0.16.0 from the Adobe Download Centre. There are no error messages or warnings during the installation.
The Flash plugin for IE is working fine.
I've tried everything, uninstall the pre-installed version (7), re-install FireFox, uninstall all plugins, download and install everything over and over..... still the same problem.

    Hi Stephan,
Thans for your reaction and suggestion.
I've cleaned up the register, deleted all the macromedia and flash keys.
Restarted, installed Flash plugin again, IE is working fine (again) but Firefox (and Opera!) only showing the message "Flash plugin needed" when I try to display a site with Flash content.
I have the same combination working on several desktops, does it have anything to do with te pre-installed software from Toshiba?
I have two Toshiba Sattelite's P100 with both exactly the same problems! Flash on IE working, Opera an Firefox NOT.

  • No sound with Firefox. PC sound is OK. DVD's play sound fine. Firefox stopped.

There is no sound with Firefox 5.0.1 or prior version (updated Firefox in attempt to fix). PC sound work fine. Play Solitaire, sound OK. Play DVD, sound is OK. Not in Firefox. Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash (twice) to no avail. Firefox says all plug ins are up to date.

    Hi there,
    UPDATE2:
Apparently using another Firefox profile the plugin-container.exe process is no longer take too much memory. However I'm currently seeing a little increase in using resources like threads and memory allocated.
It seems to me that the plugin-container.exe process and plugins installed don't work very well together. Sometimes the firefox.exe process still exists even when I had exited from the main menu (Exit).
Hoever I'm not going to continue this "test" since it is going to take too much time for me.
This thread could be intended as closed for me.
    Thanks Chris.

  • Problem using flash plugin with major browsers

Flash plugin (current release 11.05.31) is not working properly on major browsers. Some movie clips (created with flash) with jpeg images are not  loaded correctly.  The images are not visible and  you see a blank screen. With new "beta" release 11.5.502.131 everything works well.
Will the new release  solve this problem?
    Thanks for helping.

The next official release, due out in the next week or so, should address this problem.

  • Why Do I Have Multiple Versions of Adobe Flash Plugins in FireFox

    Hello,
I usually have 2 versions of Adobe Flash plugins installed in Firefox at the same time: the most recent version and the prior version which remains behind after an update. I usually disable the older version but sometimes this also affect the updated version leaving me without Flash capability in FireFox.
This week I updated FireFox's Adobe Flash plugin to 12.0.0.43 but was surprised to discover the 2 prior Flash versions also remained. Now Firefox had 3 versions of Adobe Flash plugins. I discovered the Adobe Flash uninstaller and uninstalled all Flash from my computer. Surprisingly when I reinstalled Flash player in FireFox, again 2 versions were installed: 12 and 11. I attempted to use the uninstaller on FireFox alone but it did not recognize the older Flash plugin, only the updated version 12.
The recent Adobe Flash update, version 12, is a 'Critical Security' update. Therefore, I am a bit anxious to resolve this issue. I hope you can assist me with this issue.
    Thank you.
    Windows 7
    Home Premium (64 bit)
    FireFox 26'''bold text'''

I might have thought the uninstaller would have found and deleted the old FlashPlayer. Maybe it was a custom install and in an odd location. (I suppose another possibility is that registry entries are wrong).
Try totally uninstalling FlashPlayer using the Windows Control panel, before re-installing. Then check with the FlashPlayer uninstaller before reinstalling again.
Note whilst doing this that Windows Internet Explorer has its own FlashPlayer plugin that is separate. You will need to reinstall both the Fx fox & IE plugins afterwards. Also note that for 32bit Firefox you will need the 32 bit FlashPlayer.

  • Latest Flash plugin causes firefox to crash when printing

Firefox will crash anytime I attempt to print a webpage. It doesn't happen in safemode. Disabling the Adobe Flash Plugin removes the problem. The Flash Plugin is the current version from adobe.

    Tylerdowner,
Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. No change. The only thing that seems to consistently resolve the problem is disabling the Flash plugin.
I tried creating a new profile, but when I transfer the data suggested in this:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
I get an error window when opening firefox with the new profile ...something about security settings not working correctly...but I can print every time even though the Flash plugin appears to be installed and enabled. So I assume there is some kind of problem with my current profile. Any suggestions on how to find and correct it or a way to get most of my data into a new profile...that works...would be appreciated.

  • Flash plugin for Firefox: it has trouble after 6-9 hours!

    Hi,
Vista32 sp2, 4GB Ram, ALL Adobe Flash plugin for FF versions, now 11.1.102.55.
    perhaps dxdiag.txt needed?
    Issue:
when Firefox 3.6 (in the past) or 8.0 (now) remains open, after 6-9 hours I become issues with Flash plugin for FF.
ALL YT videos (240p up to 1080p) playback with jumpiness!! with or without acceleration.
ActiveX for IE9 works fine on the same machine. No problem with Silverlight in FF.
Solution: kill the flash plugin process in task manager >refresh the YT video's page > playback again ok.
why the flash plugin is fatigued after 6 or 9 hours?
is it able to handle good the memory usage?
May you want to suggest me a workaround to get the video's palyback smoothly even if Firefox is running a lot of time (without killing the process in task manager)?
or could I to wait for an update of flash plugin in the future that adresses this issue?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    best regards.

    Hi,
Thank you both for your reply!
    @Campbell:
the same effects with or without having the flash acceleration enabled.
I dont know if I am enough able to file a bug request.
I have done (hopefully it is right?
I warmly hope that the Adobe Engineers will read and reproduce my issue and they may want to send me an email if the issue will be resolved.
    this were wonderfull.
my OS/hardware seems not too old
no problem in watching/editing full HD content.
if you mean that my bug report looks correct and exhaustive, please forward him to the developers.
(I hope that the report will not be closed, even if it becomes poor votes). thanks.
    @ ɹəuəllıʍ :
Yes the same problem in Firefox 8.0 too
(in my old FF 3.6: no issues regarding the jumpiness in Silverlight, therefore I think that this was/is perhaps an issue in "Flash player for FF" only: jumpiness after 6-9 hours usage).
But the new FF 8.0 offers the same behaviour after 6-9 hours.
    @both Campbell and ɹəuəllıʍ:

  • I updated my flash plugin and Firefox no longer has it.

I updated my Flash plugin to the latest version. Since then, Firefox has, instead of saying that I should update it, said that I should install it. The flash plugin does not appear in the add-ons manager, and flash content works fine in other browsers.

You may have a problem with the file pluginreg.dat that stores the plugin registry.
Delete the file pluginreg.dat and let Firefox rebuild a new version.

  • How can I enable blocked flash plugin on firefox?

A couple of days ago, my computer (mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC) suddenly seemed to stop recognizing that I had flash installed and wouldn't play anything requiring flash - instead a message came telling me to install it.
I uninstalled flash and the installed the latest version for my computer from the adobe website (which is 10.1.102.64).
Computer still thinks flash isn't installed and when I checked plugins I discovered firefox has blocked it telling me the version of flash I want to use is too old (even though the version I've downloaded is the latest I can use with my computer).
How can I enable the plugin on firefox so I can use flash? The 'enable' button on the plugin has been greyed out so I can't press it.
Please help - I'm rubbish with computers so please give any advice in very simple language! ( i have firefox 3.0.4)

hello this should not have happened - mozilla recently uses the blocklist feature to notify users about the outdated flash plugin but not block it.
you'd have to trigger a manual update of the blocklist and hope that this time the correct version is retrieved.
go to tools > web-developers > error console & copy the following line into the code field & hit evaluate:
    ''Components.classes['@mozilla.org/extensions/blocklist;1'].getService(Components.interfaces.nsITimerCallback).notify(null);''
sorry for the computer gibberish. afterwards restart the browser & see if you can enable the plugin in the addons manager again.

  • Flash plugin causing Firefox/opera to freeze

    Hello all,
I've got a problem. Lately when surfing flash-sites like
youtube with firefox it starts freezing (for a few seconds) when
loading. I managed to locate the problem and it was the adobe
flash-plugin. When I uninstalled the plugin I could surf those
sites without any freezes, but on the other hand I couldn't watch
the videos of course. And when I installed the plugin again the
freezes were back. I have tried reinstall Firefox countless times
and I'm using the latest version of Firefox and the flash-plugin of
course. I have also tried installing Opera and try the plugin
there, same problem. It does work in IE though. I even tried
downloading an old flash plugin version, same problem.
My computer is an Intel Core Duo 2.00GHz and 2GB RAM, Windows
XP. It has worked fine for about a year, but then suddenly after a
Windows Live Update this problem appeared.
So now my options are to either use the plugins and have
those constant freezes whenever I surf flash-sites, or unistall the
plugin again and not being able to see flash-videos. I'm really
hoping someone can help me out on this one! as I don't like either
    of those two options...
    Thanks!
    Fredrik

My problem is similar, but with the following differences:
    OS:          Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
    Browsers: IE8 and Opera 11
This is a fresh install and everything was going pretty well as I began adding Microsoft Office 2003 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro. Then I installed Opera 11 and with it, Adove Flash Player for non-IE browser. Boom! Suddenly I start getting (not responding) messages in EVERYTHING! Opera, IE8, Windows Explorer, Office, etc. The message appears every few minutes and lasts for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or a little more.
This is the whole reason I did the new install of Windows. I dumped the Windows.old folder as soon as I finished because I thought it might be malware. Now from what I'm reading, I'm thinking it's an Opera/Adobe Flash conflict.
    Any help?

  • Shockwave Flash plugin hangs Firefox, how do I stop this?

The shockwave flash plugin consistantly hangs firefox with everything Youtube related. I can't watch any videos of that format (which seems to be most videos.) Whenever this happens, I have to end the plugin_container process from the task manager. How can I stop this from happening? Is this issue being addressed? If this continues, I will be forced to switch away from Firefox permanantly.

  • QuickTime/Flash problem with Firefox - Redux

I know people are having problems getting Flash content to play on the latest version of Firefox (7) for Macs. I know it has something to do with QuickTime interceding on behalf of Flash Player and screwing with Firefox's mind. Following instructions on this forum, I downloaded the latest version of Flash Player 9, loaded it, and everything worked fine -- as long as I didn't quit Firefox. Opening Firefox again, the problem's back. Returning to your forum, you suggest I go into QuickTime's preference menu and turn off Flash in the Advanced section. Trouble was, it wasn't on. So, now what do I do?
Also, I really don't want to turn off Flash in QuickTime. I will be making Flash movies again soon, and QuickTime is integral to that. I also like Firefox. I really don't want to stop using it. Has anyone told Mozilla they really screwed up and need to fix this problem?

You mean Firefox version 2.0.0.6. That's the latest version.
In the preferences for Quicktime-->Enable Flash-->leave unchecked. That's to play .swf (flash) that is wrapped in a Quicktime container. And Quicktime only supports .swf (flash) version 5 and below... Really not a selling point... What are they up to version 8/9 now? To me not worth making any more. Unless your using flash to make sprites to use in Qt. And at that point you knew to know actionscript for version 5 of flash.
If you come across a .swf/quicktime a popup window will ask you if you want to activate it. When you close out the browser window it will revert to being off again.
Go to the MIME Settings that is just below that Enable Flash box. Scroll down to the bottom... Miscellaneous file Formats. Uncheck Flash media. This one really needs to be off!!!
As far as I know Quicktime really doesn't play a part in Flash anymore. As a container.
