Flash Pro CC to CS6 fla issue - Bad library items and new library items with unicode names

I've noticed a strange issue when opening fla files in Flash Pro CS6 that have been edited in Flash Pro CC. If there are library items in the fla with names that include symbols such as ">" or ".", unicode named symbols are created and the original symobls are unuseable. There are many symbols that cause the issue and the symbols just have to be a part of the name.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create an fla file in Flash Pro CC.
2) Add a single movieclip to the library with a symbol name of ">".
3) Save the file.
4) Open the file in Flash Pro CS6.
Results:
Library contains 2 symbols, one named ">" and one named "&#062".
Expected:
There's one library symbol named ">".
After that double clicking the symbol named ">" will do nothing and instances of the symbol will have all their content removed.
This issue is breaking a JSFL script I wrote that loops the library items. When the script attempts to access item.layerCount the script errors out. My team is blocked from using Flash Pro CC in combination with Flash Pro CS6 because of this issue. The only good solution I can think of is to all switch to CC at the same time to avoid converting our fla files to CS6 from CC.
Any info on a fix for this issue would be appreciated.

The dialog you get when you open the FLA in CS6 is that new features may not be available in CS6 so you should save it to a new file to avoid corruption. There's no "save down" from CC to CS6 (yet). So opening the file in CS6 isn't advisable in the first place.
That said, library items are supported between them both so to your point, yes, I get the same exact behavior. A single symbol named ">" in CC produces 2 library items in CS6 named ">" and "&#062", and the original item is lost. Although I'm not sure where I'd classify this issue being you shouldn't be opening a newer version file from an older version of the application. I did also try XFL, same issue. If they decide to create a save-down to CS6 and this still exists, I'd consider it a bug.
As for a fix, I think about the only thing that comes to mind is identify the characters causing issues and run a JSFL in CC to rename the library item temporarily to something you know will work fine. Then once back in CS6, run the JSFL opposite to convert them back to what you want. e.g. "this > that" to "this XYZ that" in CC, then "this XYZ that" to "this > that" in CS6. Shouldn't be too hard to map as long as the replacement is unique.

  • Need 10.7 to sync my new iPhone 5 and new iPad 4 with my Mac Book Pro, but it's 10.5.8? What do I do?

    I need  OS 10.7 to sync my new iPhone 5 and new iPad 4 with my Mac Book Pro, but my MBPro has 10.5.8? What do I do? I want to fix my problem now, but it wants me to purchase the Snow Leopard software and wait for it to be delivered. Why can't I purchase it and then download? Any ideas?

    Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
    You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
    You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
    After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Physical Filename Issue ( got past this ) and New Invalid Guideline Issue

    I had a problem ( from before ) getting a file called --> test_oracle.edi into the system. I am using a set up of EDI X12 over Generic Exchange together with FILE 1.0 protocol.
    The file has a sender of ACME and a receiver of GLOBALCHIPS, which to be parsed correctly from the b2b.log file; however, the system had problems finding the TPA, since at this point, its FROM PARTY was set to "test".
    I renamed the file from above to --> ACME_oracle.edi, and I now got past this issue, but now have a new --> invalid guideline problem, as seen in the b2b.log file.
    Note that a filename of --> ACME.edi also fails.
    Can someone tell me if there is a restriction on filenames and secondly can someone help me out on this --> "invalid guideline" issue.
    I have emailed SANKAR my EDI file together with the b2b.log file.
    I need to get past this stage, and into SOA.
    Thanks as always.
    Arthur (203-921-5925)

    Arthur,
    Some findings that I can share with you on this-
    When using Generic Protocols like File and FTP you may want to set the following property in tip.properties file
    oracle.tip.adapter.b2b.allTPInOneDirectory - If set to true, it identifies trading partner based on File Name, if false, then identifies trading partners based on FolderName.
    The logic behind it explained well by Ramesh in an old post, probably you could dig-it up on the Forum.
    But its surprising that you are getting an invalid guideline error, ideally it should throw
    "trading partner agreement not found" error. You might also want to look at the this thread - Re: EDI over FTP
    To confirm the issue - please rename your sample file with this naming convention <TPNAME>_<DOCTYPE>_<DOCREVISION>.dat, ideally if this error is because of file naming issue, it should get resolved by using this file naming convention.
    and a technote from Oracle ( B2B_TN_010_Transport_File_FTP_Internal.pdf) is available on OTN, which details out the File naming conventions.
    hope this helps,
    Shailesh

  • I made a cd on a macbook pro in itunes. it plays fine in my car and also shows the song's name, singer and the name of the album. however, when i play it on another apple computer, the songs only are listed as trak 1,2,3, etc.! that is strange, any idea?

    A music CD made on a MacBook Pro (in iTunes) that shows the song title, singer and all other data shows up as track 1, 2, 3, etc. when played in other current model Mac computers. Any idea why?  Thank you guys in advance.

    On the computer where you made it, with the correct track information displayed and the CD still in the drive, use the command Submit CD Track Names, as pictured below.
    This sends the information to Gracenote/CDDB. Once Gracenotes digests the info into its database, that CD, or any identical copies, can be identified by any computer that is running iTunes.

  • Flash Pro CC vs CS6, Import to Stage

    Seemingly simple question:
    In CS6, you can, through the menu, Import to Stage a .swf file into a Movie Clip symbol.
    In CC, you cannot.  Attempting to Import to Stage a .swf file into a Movie Clip throws an error.
    Why was this functionality removed in CC?

    I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one.  I'm genuinely curious, though.  It seems like they kept that functionality for all previously supported file types except .swf.  They allow it to work in CS6, and loading a project into CC that you've put through this process in CS6 works just fine - you just have to have CS6 available to Import to Stage that .swf in the first place, which is ridiculous.

  • Flash Pro + createjs toolkit (dynamic button issue)

    Hi,
    I have been using the toolkit for awhile, it seems to work well, but I noticed a issue.
    When you create a Button and place it on stage and export it it works fine.
    But if you try to do this:
    var container = new createjs.Container();
    var button;
    for(var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++){
                                  button = new lib.MyButton();
      container.addChild(bitmap);
    stage.addChild(container);
    It goes crazy looping through the button's states (up, over, down, hit), and if you put button.stop(); it loses it mouse over and mouse down. (will have to manually control)
    I want to dynamically create buttons to add to the stage.
    Any ideas?

    Looking through the generated js code, I noticed this line
    new c.ButtonHelper(button, 0, 1, 2, false, new lib.MyButton(), 3);
    This did the trick.

  • MacBook Pro 13 2010 running Mountain Lion: will not boot and shows a folder with a flashing question mark. Will not start in 'safe mode' i.e holding shift on start up - nor can I call up any utilities with the OSX shortcuts. Any thoughts?

    Following an automatic update, the machine wouldn't boot. Screen came on (shows white) - then either showed a 'No-Entry' Sign and a spinning cog, or a folder with a qusetion mark. I  tried to start the machine in different modes ( eg. holding shift after the tone ) but nothing worked. after leaving the machine alone for 1 hour. It worked perfectly again. I did a 'verify disk' check which found no problems. 2 hours later it then froze ( In - Photoshop). Could not force quit, so shut down, and have not been able to boot again since (white lit screen - flashing folder with question mark) . I have also taken the hard drive out and checked the connections which seem fine. Any suggestions? - Is the Hard Drive dead. : other info : It was also running parallels 8, with Windows 7. at the time of the update....

    Hi,
    According to your description, your office 365 account cannot be configured on your Surface Pro while it can work on your Windows 7 client.
    Maybe we can try to manually configure it. and you can also use network monitor to find the root cause.
    However, since the issue is related to Exchange online(Office 365), I recommend you ask for more professional help on our Exchange online forum:

  • Syncing issues, iPhoto won't build new library

    I have two macs - an eMac and an iBook G$. Both are running iPhoto 5.0.4. but I wanted to sync the photo libraries. I made a folder on the desktop of the eMac called "iPhoto Library - New" and dragged the contents of the iBook library over to it. Once it was complete, I dragged this folder into the pictures album next to the original iPhoto Library. Since I couldn't remember the short cut for choosing a new library, I renamed the old one knowing that iPhoto would prompt me to select a library when I opened it. I launched iPhoto and went to select the new library but it won't select it. I read through the old posts and wanted to rebuild the library but it won't allow me to do that - it asks me to select one first. Since it won't let me select neither the new library nor the old library, I thought I would build a new library then import the photos into it as on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=550004&tstart=0
    but now it won't let me build a new library either. When I click build new library, the window disappears like it is going to do something but nothing happens, the program stalls with most of the menu selections grayed out.
    What I really want to do is get my laptop pics into the desktop comp. I don't care about the keywords but I do want to keep the dates and both the original and edited versions of the photos intact (so I can still revert to original if necessary). Any suggestions on what I need to do from this point? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    I knew there was no reason why it shouldn't have worked the first time! I restarted my mac, opened iPhoto, and was able to select the imported Library as my default. Thanks anyhow!

  • Adobe Flash Pro CS6 Doesn't make smooth curves

    He guysI've recently upgraded from Flash Pro CS5 to Cs6 but I've got to a weird problem.
    I can not use pen tool to make smooth curves.
    This is a recording from the problem:
    any ideas?
    Thank in advance

    Adjust your drawing preferences as well. If it recognizes shapes/lines/etc it will try to optimize it.
    Here's a CS5.5 panel but CS6 shouldn't be too far off:
    If it's told to recognize any straight lines or shapes, you start to get those angled/straight lines.

  • Unexpected File Format in Flash Pro 8

    if that file was saved for a newer version, there's nothing you can do other than ask your prof or someone else to save it down for you or download a newer flash pro version that can open your fla.
    p.s. flash pro 8 is very old.  we're on flash pro 14  now.

  • How to test and configure custom extensions in Flash Pro CC?

    Hi,
    How do you install custom CS extensions in Flash Pro CC for testing and debugging before they have been signed and packaged?
    We have a custom extension for Flash Pro developed in-house using the CS SDK that we've been using with flash pro CS5 and CS6 but we're having trouble getting it to work in CC and I'd like to run it locally in test/debug mode.
    With flash pro CS6 and CS5 it was possible to test extensions by copying the output folder from flash builder into the CS Service Manager root folder (e.g. /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS6ServiceManager) and setting PlayerDebugMode to 1 in the CSXS preferences.
    I've added the PlayerDebugMode=1 flag to com.adobe.CSXS.4.plist however, I can't find the equivalent service manager folder for Flash Pro CC to copy the extension into.
    Is there a different folder to use for CC or is the process for testing extensions completely different? (are extensions written in the CS SDK even compatible with CC?)
    I'm running Mac OS Lion.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Thanks, that explains a lot.
    I'm afraid I'm a bit confused about what the preferred way of developing extensions is going ahead. There seems to be a lot of conflicting documentation on the adobe site, e.g. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite.html  seems like the top page for extension documentation but it only talks about CS SDK 2.0 which uses CSXS and doesn't seem to be compatible with creative cloud apps.
    Then there's CS Extension Builder 2.1 which looks like it supports Flash Pro CC but isn't mentioned in the pages you linked too and it doesn't mention JSFL, but talks about the CSAW library.
    Do you know if:
    * The CS SDK has been dropped completely?
    * CS Extenstion Builder is deprecated? (I can't see it as an option in the list of Creative Cloud apps)
    * Is then any documentation/utilities to help migrate existing CSXS extensions to work with creative cloud apps?
    Thanks,
    Stephen
