Windows 8.1, Surface Pro, 2 Outlook 2013 32bit - when attempting to set up new mail account with exchange 365 - "An encrypted connection to your mail server is unavailable"

It then tells me to "Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection".
I then follow the prompts but to no avail.
Please help me!? Everything works fine on my personal windows 7 laptop - but not on my new work owned Surface Pro 2!

Hi,
According to your description, your office 365 account cannot be configured on your Surface Pro while it can work on your Windows 7 client.
Maybe we can try to manually configure it. and you can also use network monitor to find the root cause.
However, since the issue is related to Exchange online(Office 365), I recommend you ask for more professional help on our Exchange online forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/msonline/en-US/home?forum=onlineservicesexchange
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

  • When opening my Outlook 2010 with new added e-mail account with Exchange Server, I have to click manually on my standard e-mail account for checking mail

When opening my Outlook 2010 with new added e-mail account with Exchange Server supplied by my employer, I have to click manually on my standard e-mail account for checking mail. Do I have to upgrade my Microsoft Office 2010 or how can I make my Outlook
2010 check all my four e-mail accounts without manually click on my accounts?
    Sincerely
    Ketil Hothorp

    Hello Ketil,
    Good Day...
Seems to be the Issue is Syncing emails, now I would recommend you to Remove and Add the Account and try and check if the emails are getting synced automatically.
Hope this is with Single User. If it is with Multiple Users then we need to check the permissions assigned.

  • Windows 8 on Surface Pro - Captivate 8 crashes when I try to add Learning Interactions, very slow

I keep trying to start a blank project and inserting a learning interaction but it keeps crashing.  I need this fixed ASAP!!!!  I had tried importing a ppt, and forget that.  It was corrupted supposedly.
I changed my firewall settings, no help there.
I downloaded elearning assets, no change.
I ran as admin, no change.
    Please advise.

I would start with this FAQ Entry first, if you have not done so yet: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0
It starts with a checklist for getting PrE set up properly, then moves into tuning up one's system and OS (you have done a lot of that already), and then goes into troubleshooting tips. Note: those tips rather work up quickly in "degree of difficulty," and DO become quite technical, but things like the "Finding Clues" link will give some tools, that might prove useful, like the use of Windows' Event Viewer to track down issues.
One of the first things to look at would be your video driver. I would go to the video card's/chip's mfgr's. Web site, and check for a later driver. Do not trust Windows, or any utility to tell you if you have the latest driver. If there is not a newer video driver, or it will not install properly on your system, be sure to check with the HP Web site, as HP, Dell, Lenovo, and some other mfgrs. will re-package video drivers to suit their specific setup.
One troubleshooting technique, that might prove useful (however, those deleted programs bother me a bit here), would be to create a System Restore Point for now (see Windows Help for doing this with your particular OS version). Then, boot to Safe Mode, and choose an older System Restore Point, from when things did work. This might take some trial-and-error, to get back far enough. Test. At the worst, you will only have lost a few minutes, as you have your new System Restore Point for now, to fall back on.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when opening Calendar search result

I have a user who uses her Outlook 2013 calendar extensively, mainly to note for herself when she has spoken to a customer, and creating appointments for when she needs to speak to them again. (This is outside of our policy to note the contact in
MS CRM.) She can have scores of such Calendar items each day.
When seraching for these appointments in her Calendar, she gets the list of results, but Oulook crashes when she tries to open any of them. Sometimes Outlook restarts on its own, sometimes she must relaunch it herself.
Related threads reference a wwlib.dll error, but she is not getting that. It is Outlook.exe itself that is crashing. There are other threads that reference other open windows, or items containing webpages or tables, but these do not apply to her, either.

On answers.microsoft.com, Girish M (Support Engineer who eventally directed me here), asked me to run Scanpst.exe. I would paste the results here, but this window does not seem to allow pasting. A summary description of what it found on her .ost file (no
.pst in use) is basically this:
    **Beginning NDB recovery
      **Attempting to open database
      **Attempting to validate header
      **Attempting to validate AMap
      **Attempting to validate BBT
      **Attempting to validate NBT
      **Attempting to validate BBT refcounts
??Couldint find BBT entry in the RBT (E025CC)
**Attempting to validate header NID high-water marks
    **Beginning PST/OST recovery
**Attempting to recover all top-level objects
        **Store created by biuld: 15.4517
      **Attempting to walk all folders
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 719
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6CD
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6DE
Failed to add row to the FLT, RowID = 6D8
and so on, and so on, with a few hundred more FLT RowID errors, finally ending with:
**Attempting to locate any orphaned folders/messages
      **Performing Final HMP validation
**Attempting to check top-level objects for consistency
      **Updating folder hierarchy
      **Verifying message moves
My understanding of the Scanpst.exe process is that it also disables any addons which might cause crashing, but the issue is still being experienced. Running Scanpst.exe a second time (appending the previous log, although it seemed to actually prepend the
file) only returned a few lines from the top of the result above ending with "Attempting to validate BBT."
Fixes not attempted yet that I have found performing searches include running the Office Repair tool, or checking for KB2817631 (a Word update that is apparently having adverse affects on Outlook, not attempted yet because it seems to be related to the wwlib.dll
error, which is not happening here).
    Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

    Mavis,
Thanks for the reply. Running Outlook using /cleansharing and
/cleanroamedprefs did not have any effect when used individually or in combination with each other.
Running the Search Index Rebuild option also did not seem to do anything, as the pop-up message indicated that it may take a long time to finish, and yet seemed to finish instantaneously, not giving any indication that the indexing took place. The option
window immediately said "Indexing complete" for 23,755 items.
As to the Outlook Forum, they are the ones who directed me to this forum (you can see the thread on the Answers support page under Office - Office 2013 - Microsoft Office Outlook - Office on Windows 7, under the title "Outlook 2013 restarts when
opening Calendar Search result item" first posted on Dec 11, 2013), as Girish M felt that it might be due to Exchange, and not Outlook. (I have no reports of any of our other users on the same Exchange server having the problem with their Outlook, but
they also do not use it the way this user has been.)
I can repost the issue there, or continue the same thread, if you think the issue lies with them. Was the "Answers" site the improper place to post, perhaps? Should it go in a different thread on Technet instead?
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when PDFMaker add-in is enabled

Outlook 2013 crashes when the Acrobat v.11.0.3 PDFMaker add-in is enabled. Outlook 2013 will automatically disable the add-in.
The Outlook 2013 version is 15.0.4517.1509, 32 bit. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit is the OS.
Below is the screenshot of the Outlook Account Info page.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I was having to start Outlook 2013 two times every time I turned on my computer (running Windows 8.1 64-bit). The first time, Adobe Acrobad crashed Outlook, disabled PDF Maker, and closed. The second time Outlook started, told me it disabled PDF Maker, and gave me the option to re-enable. I then click to re-enable PDF Maker.
However, I tried LoriAUC's suggestion #1, to launch Outlook 2013 as Administrator. When I did that, Outlook just started up without disabling PDF Maker and without crashing. And PDF Maker remained availble to use within Outlook. That's the way it should always work.
So, I remember that Outlook ran fine with PDF Maker until this month of February 2014. I wonder what changed, Outlook or Acrobat Standard Edition so that Outlook crashes (unless running Outlook as Administrator).
In the meantime, I wonder how to make Outlook start as Administrator automatically without my having to do any extra steps. Or is there a better fix.

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when adding an event using an emailed ics file.

I use Outlook 2013, Hotmail and an Android phone to manage my calendar, with Outlook 2013 and Android synching to the Outlook.com account.
    Scenario 1:
    1. Receive meeting requests with attached ics files from an Apple Mac user
    2. Drag ics file attachment to the Outlook calendar
    3. "Meeting" window opens
    4. Click "Accept" then "Send Response Now" OR "Do Not Send a Response"
OR "Edit the Response Before Sending" then "Send"
    5. Outlook crashes (see event log below) and restarts
    6. On restart the meeting request has been added to the Outlook calendar
    7. Meeting is not in the Outlook.com calendar
    8. Meeting organiser does not receive email response

    1. Receive meeting requests with attached ics files from an Apple Mac user
    2. Double click on the ics file
    3. Error message "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found"
    Observations:
Re-creating the Hotmail account OST file makes no difference.
    The workaround described here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/cannot-open-ics-meeting-invite/99ce57cc-5ffe-42f7-ba0a-87d6d928cb85
requires approximately 15 clicks, instead of two or three, so isn't workable for large numbers of meeting requests.
Meeting requests can be added to the local pst file calendar successfully.  This calendar is not used because it doesn't allow synching with other devices.
    System configuration:
Windows 8.1 - Most recent Windows Update check: "No updates are available"
Outlook 2013 (15.0.4675.1003), standalone installation (no Exchange Server) - Most recent Office Updates check: "The latest version of Office is installed on your computer"
Email containing ics attachments (and all other email) is sent to an email alias which is then forwarded to my ISP-provided email address
ISP email address is connected using IMAP/SMTP
Outlook.com / hotmail account is connected using EAS

Sorry for the delay. I was supposed to get alerts on this, but I never did. N2K has been built and rebuilt, and still the error comes up. For one Exchange user that's in the N2K file, I can look at it now, and it matches up with others on the same server.
But 2-3 days from now, it will somehow be changed to“/o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=user” and that starts Outlook crashing again. The error happened for several months, and during this time the user was moved to a new
Exchange server. A new profile was created after the move, but the problem followed him.
I removed the offending user again today. The entry in n2K is getting changed to “/o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=user”. I found that is is a legacyExchange issue, but I don't know from where it's being changed -
on the user who's Outlook is crashing, on the user sending the email, or on the AD server. I am not an Exchange expert, so reading a few websites that point out what this is didn't really help me figure out how to remove the legacyExchange problem. The customer
is using hosted Exchange, so I can't get onto the server to dig into it. Is it in the Global Address Book, or a user's individual contact?
I ran OffCAT and it pointed out two addins that had Resiliancy set. They were both Outlook Addins, DPOfcX.ComposeRibbon and OutlookChangeNotifier.Connect. So I hope they aren't the issue.

Well I am feeling a bit silly now because that was all I had to do. In the past Workgroup Manager had always opened right up to the list of my users, I never even thought to click on that but apparently that was all that was needed.
I still am not sure how the iChat Server preferences changed themselves on me, but it is not the first time I have had weird "settings" issues with our Snow Leopard Server.
    Thanks!

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • Arch doesn't boot up after Windows Update on Surface Pro 3

    Hi all,
I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro 3. I have a persistent installation of Arch on a USB drive. It works very well on the Surface. The only problem I am facing is, whenever I run Windows Update, I am not able to boot from the USB Arch installation after that. It just guides me to the BitLocker recovery page. The only way to boot from the USB drive is to install GRUB on the EFI partition again. It'll work until the next Windows Update, but then again the same thing repeats itself. I am stumped as to how to resolve this.
Disabling BitLocker doesn't work too, as the system then boots straight into Windows instead of going to the BitLocker recovery page.

You can check the boot order by using:
    efibootmgr
You can set the boot order using:
    # efibootmgr -o xxxx,yyyy,zzzz
Replace the letters with the bootnumbers given by the first command.
You can probably use this method to reset Arch at the top of the list rather than re-installing GRUB.

  • Bootcamp - Windows 8.1 - Mac Pro (Late 2013) -- ATI Driver Crash

    Hi All,
I have a open case with Apple as well on this but i can not seem to locate any information on this issue on the web at all.
    Case: 601052633
Basically, we received a new Late 2013 Mac Pro, and out of the box proceeded to install bootcamp and windows 8.1.
After the install and the bootcamp drivers are installed the screen starts to display lines and the ATi drivers eventually crash.
If we uninstall the ATI drivers the screen is returned to normal and windows uses the generic drivers, however the graphics performance is degraded.
If we install the latest ATI drivers (downloaded directly from the ATI webpage) the display issues reoccur.
If left to run its path the screen becomes unreadble and eventually the system bluescreens.
To recap all the things I have done:
Straight out of the box we started the boot camp install. We use the latest Windows 8.1 Media.
Once the process is completed the PC reboots as normal and we install windows on the “BOOTCAMP” partition.
Windows installs without issue and when the bootcamp drivers window pop’s up it starts its install. At the “Chipset” drivers install the window starts to flicker, this appears to be normal but afterwards the screen shows “lines” on it. (these lines can be seen on image below)
Once windows is booted the lines remain and progressively gets worse. Image below shows the ATI Criver crash and the blue screen. This takes 2-5 seconds. And depends on how much you move on the screen.
Screen capture (shown Below) shows the issues, even with screen capture the issue is recorded.
If we uninstall the ATI display drivers the issue disappears.
    Process of tests:
Install Bootcamp windows 8.1 on Mac pro 2013 out of the box – Issue recorded
Remove Bootcamp and update firmware on Mac.
Install Bootcamp windows 8.1 on Mac Pro 2013 – Same issue.
Updated ATI Drivers using ATI drivers off ATI website – Same issue
Uninstalled ATI Drivers – 2 Generic Microsoft video cards detected – issue removed but video performance degraded.
Updated Bootcamp Drivers – ATI drivers reinstalled – Issue returned
Removed bootcamp, restored system to factory settings via web install.
Installed Bootcamp windows 8 on Mac Pro 2013 – Same issues
Removed bootcamp restored System to default
Tried installing windows 7 – not supported
Installed Windows 8.1 and ran screen captures and diagnostics.
We have also tried using different display ports, Different display adaptors, Different monitors.
    Mac OS is not affected.
Note Mac is “out of the box”, Windows is a next next next install. No changes or software is installed.
    Any support would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Steffen.
    It Manager.

I had this exact same issue and had been hunting it down since i first received my Mac Pro back in May 2014. I researched the problem all over the place but I have no idea why i did not find this post, or in fact why Apple techs did not find this post either.
Bottom line: In my case I have pretty much proved this was a problem with the AMD FirePro D300 video card/s. They basically can't cope with Windows graphics needs.
I have a new Mac with D500 cards, and now the problem is almost completely gone. I can recreate if i run certain situations and a screen saver. Upon refresh, there is a chance the card will crash, but showing a slightly different outcome.
Having read the prior posts, the D700 may also have the same issue??
Longer story and background: I am not exactly an expert, but i did try many different things and probably spent in excess of 200 hours onto tech support and installing, reinstalling, trying different monitors, trying different software. Eventually i was so frustrated and in tears with this issue.
The major problem over all this time was the constant response from Apple that this was not an Apple issue since the Mac OS was not showing any issues.
I was at the time a new Mac convert, my brother had purchased the 'awesome' machine for me as a birthday gift, with the goal that we could play a specific game together. My disappointment in Apples inability to recognize or even attempt to recognize that this was related to the hardware in the Mac itself was constant and ongoing.
My final visit to the Apple store to again visit the 'Genius' bar came up yet again with the most senior tech in the store telling me that there were no problems identified with the hardware and that this was not their issue. Totally frustrating. I was rather hoping, in the good tradition of true geeks, that this would have been a challenge to hunt down. I was pretty sure they trusted me that this was not a standard Windows issue, and thus was hoping they would switch out individual pieces of components (video cards being my first choice) to see if that the problem repeated. Nope, didn't want to do it.
My response was to threaten with legal action - not something i enjoyed doing, plus that i would NEVER buy an Apple product again. Since I was a new business client, this may have had an impact.
This wonderful Manager at the store agreed that he wanted to take the hardware out of the equation and see if I still had the issue. So he, amazingly, agreed to refund in full for the machine and I could order a new one.
As i was convinced this was hardware related, since I had the Quad core, D300's, 12 gig machine and my brother had the top of the range six processor, D500s, 16gig memory machine which did NOT have this issue, running identical software, when i reordered the Mac Pro, I bumped it up to the D500s (still Quad core) and 16gig of memory (also had the 1TB drive partitioned 40/60 in bootcamps favor).
I tentatively installed windows after a couple of days of normal Apple usage (software updates included).
I then hammered the system with the same software and installs.
Its been up and running for perhaps 2-3 weeks now, and I have not seen the issue at all, other then when i had screen saver running and 4 instances of the game running (Everquest for those of you who are interested - but the software is almost irrelevant, since i have had this issue using internet explorer or Chrome).
So..  I urge Apple to review this issue with the D300s and either remove them from the configuration options or resolve the issue. One of the powerful selling things for this wonderful machine is its ability to run Windows in native mode. I like it because I also want to get into App Development, so the dual option boot option is just what i wanted.
Responding to us poor Windows installers with 'not my problem' simply isn't good enough and should never have been something i had heard.
All good now, I am happy with the end result, but I would like Apple to recognize this IS AN ISSUE THEY NEED TO ADDRESS.
I apologize if my technical knowledge is not a strong as it might need to be in relaying this information to you guys, but hopefully it all makes sense.
    Paul
