Flash Sitting on top of .html

Hello - I have seen on the front page of Yahoo - on their
advertising section on the right of the page flash movies that when
you mouse over them they spread over to take up a large section
sitting over .html of the page. How is this done? I did a search
for "flash on top of html" - but nothing came up, so I hope I am
not asking a redundent question - if I am I apologize.
Thanks - Eric

The effect you describe it done with Layers which are quite
easy if you familiar with Dreamweaver.
Let me elaborate.
You can not get beyond flash to animate beyond the canvas
boundaries (the movie size defined in your
object embed tags). These are movies that are actually with
transparent background, using WMODE parameter
to achieve that, it makes them appear like they fly all over
the HTML document while they actually just
large movies with no background. Another way to do it, is to
use Wmode and animate the layer itself
rather then making a huge movie canvas to cover the space
WMODE however is known to cause problems, from crashing
browsers to disabling actions ,screwing up buttons
etc... So be aware of it, if suddenly some of the features
stop working, you know what's the reason behind
it. That's why it's commonly use for ads only, minimum user
interaction.

• How to align an all Flash site to top of page

Yep I'm a newbie and I'm assuming this is pretty easy. How do
I eliminate the top border to the following site?
http://totalscript.com/newsite/ts.html
I’m using an HTML with an embedded SWF.
Thank you,
Alex

That top border is in your swf. If you right click in there
you get the flash right click menu.
Since it looks like you are publishing for player 7, I can
assume it is AS2. Try going into your code and adding:
Stage.align = "TC";
This will auto-align the content to the top center of the
player region.

• Link INTO Flash Site?

My photographer wife just posted her brand new Flash site.
And it's great.
But, we just noticed that other specialist sites linked to
the relevant page of her old site. Is there a way to create links
into Flash sites without creating separate HTML pages? The idea
would be to go to a specific navigation point.
Thanks,
Gary

You can use a javascript code within the .html file pointing
to your exact section on the flash movie. I just forget what's the
term of that. I'll look at it and get back to you

• HTML content sits on top of Flex application

I'm trying to load a PDF document in my AIR application using the MX:HTML component. When a popup opens, the HTML component's default behaviour is to hide the content when a popup opens and reappear when the popup disappears. This is what I would expect.
However if the HTML content is reloaded while the popup is open, the HTML content is reappearing automatically and sitting on top of the popup.
I can replicate this behaviour using Flex SDK 4.6, 4.11, 4.12 and 4.12.1.
Is this a normal behaviour? Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Here is some working sample code:

<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
creationComplete="maximize()">
<s:layout>
<s:VerticalLayout/>
</s:layout>
<fx:Script>

import flash.utils.setTimeout;
import mx.managers.PopUpManager;
import spark.components.TitleWindow;
private function openPopUp():void
var popup:TitleWindow = new TitleWindow();
PopUpManager.addPopUp(popup, this, true);
PopUpManager.centerPopUp(popup);
setTimeout(function():void{html.reload()}, 1000);

</fx:Script>
<s:Button click="openPopUp()" label="CLICK"/>
<mx:HTML id="html" location="http://www.energy.umich.edu/sites/default/files/pdf-sample.pdf" width="100%" height="100%"/>
</s:WindowedApplication>

Hi,
What about if you create a separate title window as: pdf.mxml

<s:TitleWindow xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
width="800" height="600">
<mx:HTML id="html" location="http://www.energy.umich.edu/sites/default/files/pdf-sample.pdf" width="100%" height="100%"/>
</s:TitleWindow>
And call the title window as:
private var pdfWin:PDF = new PDF();
private function openPopUp():void
PopUpManager.addPopUp(pdfWin, this, true);
PopUpManager.centerPopUp(pdfWin);
popup should be gone when you reload.
I hope this help.

• FLash site will redirect to 3 subdomains(html,blog,forum)How SEO Friendly is going to be MyWebsite?

I'm building a website which is going to have 3 subdomains to load within . One html is going to promote the services and sell it (135mb), one WordPress blog news (15mb) and one vBulettin forum. For this reason I have a typical flash template with 4 selections, with one click for each of the 4 images which will describe the content, this will redirect people to the right place ( html website,blog, and forum ) . What is the best method to SEO my website ? I need people to know/easy to find me on google, to know abaut the services I offer, blog news and forum. I cannot enter all those menus on the services subdomain because I dont want people to get scared that they have to pay for someting and get out; the blog looks more worst compare with html so I cant enter all links in there..; forum its forum..
So my only decent option is to have this flash site with 3 big options which will redirect people to their choises. But how is going to affect SEO ? am'I going to need to SEO my subdomains, like www.mywebsite.com/services , or the main flash site ?
thank you

I agree with what Ned is saying, the Home page for your site IS normally the most important and should be well packed with SEO targeted content... of which Flash by itself is not very good. In addition, iOS devices like the iPhone will not display the Flash.
So while it is possible to get great page rankings for those various sections, the HTML, Blog, or Forum, it may take longer and lacking good SEO for your Home page, in effect will dillute the overall SEO effectiveness of the site.
So my advise, don't use Flash for your Home page. If you do, then you should use swfobject and create extensive alternate content. This alt content will satisfy the SEO requirements as well as provide a display for iProducts.
For your review:
If you think that Flash is somehow bad for SEO, it's time to dispell that MYTH!
If fact, in some circumstances I'll use Flash INSTEAD of just HTML because then I'll have better SEO than with just HTML alone.
The client provided the artwork for the page... and that's what they wanted to use a .jpg image. Well yes, that could be done in HTML but it would be virtually invisible to Google. So Instead I converted the image into a Flash .swf and used swfobject to display the Flash. swfobject allows you to create alternate content inside the
which also holds the Flash .swf, then when the page is loaded it detects if the browser has the Flash pluggin. If it does, it displays just the Flash content, if not, it displays the alternate content. Since almost everyone has the Flash pluggin, for most people the Flash version of the
will display.
The alternate content for that
can be any regular HTML text, images, media player, links, etc., anything that you would use if you were not using the Flash. Now the best part is that the alternate content can be "over the top" as far as optimizing for SEO, since it will not be seen by most viewers.
Here's another example of SEO with Flash.. again, the page is just a single image provided by the client:
http://www.ksowetsuits.com/
View the source code. The alt content is paragraph after paragraph of information about the site, including lists and links. If it was just the HTML, it might be kind of a boring Home page. But for SEO I can go "over the top" in promoting the site, since most viewers will never see that part... but it's all indexed by search engines. The end result is BETTER SEO using Flash than just HTML.
On another Web site, a Flash video is displayed, the alt content is the complete text narration of the video. Now how many people would take the time to read that if they could just watch the video instead?? again, better SEO with Flash than without. In fact in one case we had first page search result from that video narration within 4 hours of posting the page.
On still another site with a Flash video, the alt content is another video, but a .mov version, which will, in effect play Flash video on the iPhone (not possible you say??). Well since the iPhone does not have Flash pluggin, it simply displays the .mov version of the video, while everyione else sees the Flash version.
So anyway, if Flash is a part of your Web development, you should look into using swfobject and alternate content.

No such thing. Flash is not html based and therefore cannot

Trying to bypass pop-up blockers on a flash site. Nothing
malicious, just going from a Flash interface to html so I can write
to a cookie. If I try to load the page in the same window, then
when you go back to the flash you are starting from the beginning
which makes it rather cumbersome. I was hoping to just load a
pop-up to avoid this.
Within the index.html page I have a javascript page loaded.
In the .js file I have
function Popupport_checkout(){
myleft=(screen.width)?(screen.width-430)/2:100;mytop=(screen.height)?(screen.height-380)/2 :100;

izable=yes,fullscreen=no'
PopupWin=window.open('cart_checkout.htm','PopupWin ',

PopupWin.focus();}
If I have a button within flash with a --
on (release) {

> I know most people probably view at 1024 x 768.
You think so? Even if they have their resolution that high
(which is
fairly standard, nowadays), do you think most people maximize
their browsers
to fill that whole area?
> Is there anyway to auto resize based up on screen
> resolution or something to detect the screen size and
> adjust the webpage accordingly.
There is, indeed. :) Check out the Stage.onResize event in
the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference. That event is dispatched
when the
browser (or whatever container) is resized -- in cases where
the SWF is
embedded with percentages. If that's your aim, you'll need to
code against
that event, which can be done like this ...
http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-movie-clips-browser-resizing
It can take a bit of thought, depending on the complexity of
your goal,
but the result is usually worth it. The site in your URL is
already built,
so this wouldn't do much of anything without opening the
hood, so to speak,
and completely rebuilding the engine. A Flash movie has to be
designed and
programmed to respond to the Stage.onResize event.

• Flash always on top in Safari 5.0.5

Hi,
I have some problems with flash in Safari 5.0.5 with Flash Player 10.2. My flash banners is always on top and covers menus and popups. wmode and z-index seems to be correct. It works as expected in the latest nightly build of webkit and Google Chrome, but not Safari.
Here is the webpage, scroll down and you will see the flash covering the top menu: http://www.booli.se/bostad/villa/hisingen/plockerotegatan+16/786830
I found this question on the same topic (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2458855?start=0&tstart=0) where the problem was said to be solved with Safari 5.0.1. A test site was set up in that thread by user suastegui which can be found here: http://www.guru.ag/fl2/iframeTest/index.html. On this page the flash is still covering the other elements for me.
Any ideas?

BBC iPlayer relies on Adobe Air. AIR 1.5.3 is the last version of AIR that supports Mac PowerPC and Windows 2000. AIR applications that require AIR 2 or later cannot be installed or used on a Macintosh PowerPC or a computer running the Windows 2000 operating system.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85304.html
I am in the same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine.
For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.
You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:
http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

• Layout page with flash movie on top

I want to have the index page for my site open with a flash
movie on top of the rest of the content of the page at a set pixel
distance from the top of the page and centered horizontally in
relation to the browser. I have been able to make this work with an
absolute location using CSS elements in Dreamweaver and the
equivalent of what used to be layers. It all works as long as the
position of the layer is absolute, and your monitor settings are
pretty standard. Otherwise the flash plays on the left:
http://www.iconoclastic.net/metaphordogs/index.html
When I try to make it a relative location, it moves to the
top of the browser. When I try to make it relative to a table, it
displaces the table content rather than playing over it.
Any assistance would be appreciated
Alec

The standard solution is to set wmode="transparent" and in your embed/object html, but that only helps to fix the problem in win/IE. The problem has been there on Adobe's own home page for years. If you're unlucky enough to use a Mac there's no effective solution for this problem.

• How do I get the Flash site to work on the server

Hi,
I'm a beginner working with Studio 8. I have the Flash site
working as desired from my desktop, but I have issues once loaded
to the server. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right
direction.
Firstly, I would like the site to work within a non-sizeable
browser window. I am not sure how to do this.
Secondly, when I try to visit the uploaded site, it appears
not to load properly. I see an isolated movie clip loaded on the
screen, but my pre-loader never displays, and there is no animation
at all.
I am not sure where to start looking, but if you do, please
share - grateful, I will be.
-Brian

ok - here is an update.
For reasons unknow to me, the Flash site works on my pc now
that I re-published the html. Unfortunately, everyone else that I
ask to visit have to refresh their browser before they see it
animate and work.
*sigh*

• Could work an animated flash bitmap image exported in html 5, in DPS ?

I'm new in DPS, just started for a couple of weeks and I need to use a image in an animation.
I created the animation in inDesign exported in .fla, used de toolkit js, load it in a container with web content overlay, and when I preview it with Adobe Content Viewer it doesn't work, it apears a blank screen. Neighter of animation from that stage won't work.
To be very precise any animation works fine, when I test the html in a browser, the problem appears only in the content viewer.
The animation is very simple: smal logo entering in the stage from the right, not very complex.
I tried in flash with other images in a test file and loaded in inDesign, and still don't work. Other vector animation works well, no problem. I saw that if I have an image in library in flash and export a simple animation with a vector ball, won't work in indesign preview, with content viewer.
My question is, Could work an animated flash bitmap image exported in html 5, in DPS ? If so, what should I need to do ?
Thank you in advance.

Two possible solutions I was considering:
1) In my index/first page, have all the swfs present (scaled to 1x1, behind something, or invisible) and have a preloader code on that first page... so all the content gets loaded before continuing onto the rest of the site. That would certainly work in making the site run quick... but would mean a relatively lengthy wait at the start. Luckily, unlike my current site, all the actual site content (aside from the header/nav interface) is HTML... so the bulk of the site's content is in the HTML pages, not as part of the Flash header... so it probably wouldn't be too horrific a wait. However, it would be loading EIGHT of these swfs, since there are eight pages... so then maybe it would be....
2) Have an swf that consists of just the 'draw up' of the interface, and it's idle state... then when each button is pressed, load a new swf to replace the main one, which has the specific page's animated title sequence, and ends with the code to load the html page. So, each separate HTML page would have embedded into it only the main swf, and the title animation swf would be swapped in when a nav button is pressed. Main issue here is each button press would envoke a preloader sequence (kind of tedious)... and unfortunately all the 'main interface' elements loaded in with the main swf would have to be loaded in again at the start of each animated title swf (although none of the draw up... just the loading of the interface and buttons). For highspeed users, it should be okay, I guess....
Thoughts or better ideas?
