Flash with frames
I read a Flash with Frames tutorial and got what i wanted to
do, but soon realized there was a problem. The code used only works
with Actionscript 1.0. The code is: getURL("page.html","kirupa");
where kirupa is the frame name. In actionscript 2.0, this page
opens in a new window. I'm guessing there is a new way to do this
in 2.0, any ideas???
can you be more specific on what you are doing or using the
code for?

Using Flash with Frames?
Is there a trick to using frames with flash? The frames page
looks like:
<html>
<head>
<title>Home Site</title>
</head>
<frameset rows="78,280,*" FRAMEBORDER=0 BORDER=0
FRAMESPACING=0>
<frame src="header.html" name="header" scrolling="no"
noresize>
<frame src="flash.html" name="flash" scrolling="no"
noresize target="mainFrame">
<frame src="frameindex.html" name="mainFrame">
<noframes>
<body>
<p>This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't
support them.</p>
</body>
</noframes>
</frameset>
</html>
header.html does not have any flash. Just has the home and
contact buttons for the top.
flash.html is just an html page that holds the flash
navigation.
mainFrame is where the new pages should display with index of
course being the first page.
In flash, the button has the following:
onClipEvent (load) {
num = 1;
on (rollOver) {
if (_root.link<>num) {
this.gotoAndPlay("s1");
on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
if (_root.link<>num) {
this.gotoAndPlay("s2");
on (release) {
if (_root.link<>num) {
_parent["but"+_root.link].gotoAndPlay("s2");
_root.link = num;
getURL("details.html", "mainFrame");
When I press the button, it opens details.html in a new page
without the frames. I would like it to open details.html in the
mainFrame frame. Is there a trick that I do not know? Thank you so
much!The standard reply is -
1. Why are you using frames since there are many compelling
reasons not to?
2. Why are you using Flash navigation since there are many
compelling
reasons not to?
Most people here don't work with (assiduously avoid) both of
those critters,
so, you may have trouble getting a more explicit response!

Stop and Play All Child MovieClips in Flash with Actionscript 3.0
I am stuck with the ActionScript here. I have a very complex animated flash movie for eLearning. These contain around 10 to 15 frames. In each frame I am having multiple movie clip symbols. The animation has been created using a blend of scripting and also normal flash animation.
Now I want to create pause and play functionality for the entire movie. I was able to create the pause function but when i try to play the movie it behaves very strange.
I was able to develop the pause functionality by refering to the below mentioned links:
http://www.unfocus.com/2009/12/07/stop-all-child-movieclips-in-flash-with-actionscript-3-0 /
http://www.curiousfind.com/blog/174
Any help in this regard is highly appreciated as i am approaching a deadline.
I am pasting the code below:
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.DisplayObjectContainer;
import flash.utils.Timer;
import flash.events.TimerEvent;
import fl.transitions.*;
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
stop();
// function to stop all movieclips
function stopAll(content:DisplayObjectContainer):void
if (content is MovieClip)
(content as MovieClip).stop();
if (content.numChildren)
var child:DisplayObjectContainer;
for (var i:int, n:int = content.numChildren; i < n; ++i)
if (content.getChildAt(i) is DisplayObjectContainer)
child = content.getChildAt(i) as DisplayObjectContainer;
if (child.numChildren)
stopAll(child);
else if (child is MovieClip)
(child as MovieClip).stop();
// function to play all movieclips
function playAll(content:DisplayObjectContainer):void
if (content is MovieClip)
var movieClip:MovieClip = content as MovieClip;
if (movieClip.currentFrame < movieClip.totalFrames) // if the main timeline has reached the end, don't play it
movieClip.gotoAndPlay(currentFrame);
if (content.numChildren)
var child:DisplayObjectContainer;
var n:int = content.numChildren;
for (var i:int = 0; i < n; i++)
if (content.getChildAt(i) is DisplayObjectContainer)

if (child.numChildren)
playAll(child);
else if (child is MovieClip)
var childMovieClip:MovieClip = child as MovieClip;
if (childMovieClip.currentFrame < childMovieClip.totalFrames)
//childMovieClip.play();
childMovieClip.play();
function resetMovieClip(movieClip:MovieClip):MovieClip
var sourceClass:Class = movieClip.constructor;
var resetMovieClip:MovieClip = new sourceClass();
return resetMovieClip;
pauseBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickStop_1);

myTimer.stop();
playBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickPlay_1);
function onClickPlay_1(evt:MouseEvent):void

I mean to say that though it stops at certain keyframes in the timeline it stops for only a certain time and then moves on to the next animation sequence.
Its not an application where the user can interact.
On clicking the play button i want the movie to play normally as it was playing before. If the user has not clicked on the pause button it would anyhow play from start to finish.
Is there anyway where i could send in the fla file? -

Hi
I've got a client who has a HTML site on a laptop for a

The thing is it he wants it to link to specific area of the

Any help would be much appreciated bearing in mind my

--B_3299492325_1333456--What do you mean about opening a flash file? Do you want the
.fla file
to open in flash? Or is it a swf that you imported into
Director? Or
is it an exe that was published from flash? Or a website that
was
created with Flash?
If you are opening a .exe and you know the path to it, then
you can use
Director's built-in open command
open the moviePath&"flashFile.exe"
for most other things, I would use BuddyAPI. To open an exe,
baRunProgram(). To open a fla or swf, baOpenFile.
To make Director open a swf on the stage, import it and
simply tell the
button to go to that frame. -
Text on some sites flash with yellow background
Since upgrading to 3.1.1 I've noticed that some pages have text areas that flash with a yellow background when loading or when an ad on that page changes. Huffingtonpost.com is the most common offender, but it has happened on other sites as well.
The yellow background "flash" seems to be contained within a box or frame in which the text sits. It's brief and then the background reverts to white.
Just to be clear, I'm not referring to any graphic that is Flash-based. I mean an area on the page that flashes a different color before reverting to its normal white.
What's going on?No solution

SWF Frames and Flash Player Frames
Hi,
Could I have the definition about these concepts?
What is the relationship between them?
In particular, I would know if they are paired each other or not during execution.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.I'll try to explain what i need to understand.
Could you underscore when the Flash Player Frames (understood as the time period between two consecutive enterFrame events) take place?
Suppose an application with two frames (FR1 and FR2) and a specific frame rate
The Flash Player streams in the SWF:
1 Flash Player starts to load FR1
2 FR1 is completely loaded
3 FR1 calls stop() method
4 Flash Player is waiting to load FR2
5 FR2 is completely loaded
6 FR2 calls stop() method
To summarize: Can Flash Player Frames can be took place many times per SWF Frame?
Thank you again

Why does flash drop frames ??
I have been conducting some tests and am totally lost as to why flash based broadcasting drops frames.
The genral formula for calculating bitrate is :
bitrate = Width x Height x FPS
Now if this value is lower than Camera.bandwidth then why should flash still drop frames ?? Any assistance/ideas is greatly appreciated.
I have checked with FMS performance tab: bytes in is well bellow Camera.bandwidth as well , but still flash drops frames... why??oh! you dont have to be an engeer to answer that. I reported you because i saw you had 306 points. Which means you had to be a serious guy giving a serious answer. If you had read my question (you may want to read it again just in case).. here is the answer to it that i could find on my own. There is no need to get things complicated, god created things simple eniough
Refer to http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/Camera.html
You will see that when we apply setMode funtion to request a width, height and fps, flash will request the device for closest native settings of the camera. I am pasting it here so everyone can read:
By default, Flash Player drops frames as needed to maintain image size. To minimize the number of dropped frames, even if this means reducing the size of the image, pass false for the favorArea parameter.
When choosing a native mode, Flash Player tries to maintain the requested aspect ratio whenever possible. For example, if you issue the commandmyCam.setMode(400, 400, 30), and the maximum width and height values available on the camera are 320 and 288, Flash Player sets both the width and height at 288; by setting these properties to the same value, Flash Player maintains the 1:1 aspect ratio you requested.
So as you see its a simple thing, nothing so complicated as NETWORKING, ALOHA , TCP/IP etc etc . If you wil notice all the situations i have stated, it clearly implies frame drop happens regardless of any bandwidth settings as soon as i go over a certain resolution.
Haver a nice day! Cheers -
Flash with linked flv: Waiting while playing
Hello
for an automatic running projector I want to use flash with
linked flvs. While the flash is running the movie shell wait, after
finishing playing the movie jumps to next marker.
I used following script:
on exitFrame
if sprite (5).playing then
go to the frame
end if
end
The script don't function. Has anyone an idea how to let the
movie waiting for the end of embedded flash?
Thanks and regards
PeterIf the .flv is loaded in to a movieClip in your .swf, you
would want to
test the clip's playing property, not the .swf. Another
method is to
build a telltale in to the .swf to mark the end of the .flv
play. You
could set a boolean variable in the .swf and then look at the
value from
the Director movie. A better method is to call a Director
function from
the .swf, when the .flv finishes.

Using Flash's frame anchors problem
I have problem using flash's frame anchors with firefox
2.0.0.7
I have following "
http://probertson.com/articles/2006/12/14/deep-linking-flash-application-states/"
those instructions and i can't get this thing work. Those flash's
frame anchors does work in IE 6.0. Any solutions? I have Flash CS3.
LINK: http://www.students.tut.fi/~sillan25/t.htmlI don't know how you'd do this using a Flash object, but
Director's
built-in NetLingo xtra can handle SOAP requests as of version
10.1 and
this, in conjunction with the proxyServer() command, should
be all you
need - assuming you have access to proxy details.

Since last upgrade (tablet under Android), websites with frames don't work.
All apps are up to date. Since last Firefox upgrade, web sites with frames no longer work properly : frames are outside of screen at bottom. Chrome and other browsers work fine... but I prefer Firefox.
I view this page from home web page ([http://www.ville-fondettes.fr/ http://www.ville-fondettes.fr/] ), staying in Firefox app.
This web site isn't very well designed but was working well with previous version of Firefox.
I found other web sites but a private account is needed. I try to find other examples with the same issue. -
Help:How to publish a Flash with full screen HTML
Please, guys, be kind enough to teach me how to publish a
Flash with full screen size in HTML. I have tried to search the
board, but so far no luck.
Originally, I want my .SWF to keep changing its background.
The solution I got was placing colored stage-sized rectangles on
the bottom layer. Then I don't want the viewers to see the HTML
area where I cannot seem to control smooth color changes.
So, after I construct a Flash file with backdrop-color
changing by the method I mentioned above, how do I publish it with
full screen mode in HTML, as you can see
here? Help!
Thanks in advance, guys.Here's an AS2 and a AS3 version I got from David Stiller
2 small details you have to add 1 in publish settings set Dimensions to percent 100 100
and in the html set <style>body {margin: 0; padding: 0}</style>
// AS2
import flash.display.BitmapData;
Stage.align = "TL";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
var tile:BitmapData = BitmapData.loadBitmap("tile");
function fillBG():Void {
beginBitmapFill(tile);
moveTo(0, 0);
lineTo(Stage.width, 0);
lineTo(Stage.width, Stage.height);
lineTo(0, Stage.height);
lineTo(0, 0);
endFill();
fillBG();
var listener:Object = new Object();
listener.onResize = fillBG;
Stage.addListener(listener);
// AS3
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
var bmp:Tile = new Tile(50, 50);
var tile:BitmapData = new BitmapData(50, 50);
tile.draw(bmp);
function fillBG(evt:Event = null):void {
graphics.beginBitmapFill(tile);
graphics.moveTo(0, 0);
graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, 0);
graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
graphics.lineTo(0, stage.stageHeight);
graphics.lineTo(0, 0);
graphics.endFill();
fillBG();
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, fillBG);

Making a simple gallery - issues with frames
Hi there,
Please help!
I'm at the end of my tether with this one.
I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and maybe I'm running before I can walk, but I thought what I am trying to make would be fairly simple. Haha!
I want to make a basic gallery, ie. you click the arrows or the thumbnail buttons and the next image appears within the page but DOESN'T reload to a whole separate page.
I managed to do this using a frameset and thumbnails - the images loaded in the main frame fine - BUT there are 2 issues with this:
1. The link to the homepage I added in the corner loads WITHIN the frameset, and so the homepage is cut off and the thumbnails are still there. I want the link to take the user OUT of the frameset and straight to the homepage (a totally different format, with no frames used) I can't find a way to put this homepage link anywhere outside of the frameset.
2. I cant centre the frameset, or have much control over the layout like I do with tables.
Could this problem be solved using tables? Or any way to solve this simply?
Thanks.
PS. I don't have fireworks, and I don't want to use a downloadable gallery as I want control over how it works/looks, also I dont think it would solve issues 1 and 2 anyway.kcoulton30 wrote:

I don't understand this comment at all. If you use a downloadable gallery you just edit the skin as you would any other HTML document and make it look like the rest of your site. And usually support communities for those products are fairly helpful for skinning. Learning to code something like this with frames for a first project is a little ambitious but it is heading in a direction that I know you are not looking to go. I have a feeling you like the interactive galleries that pop up and switch from image to image while staying on the same page.
To answer your questions:
1. You need to define the target frame with frames. By default links open within the window they are currently in. See this example: http://webdesign.about.com/od/frames/f/bl_faq4-2.htm
2. Framesets cannot be centered on a page. They are part of the overall page layout and cannot be positioned. If you need to position a frame on a particular part of a page you will need to use iframes: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_iframe.asp -
Flash with wmode="transparent" doesn't work with non-US keyboard (like FF)
Safari has the same issue as FireFox (which they are finally fixing) :
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347185
If you use Flash with wmode="transparent" then it treats all keyboards as if they are US keyboards.
For example try G.ho.st http://G.ho.st/vc.html with a non-US keyboardI too am having issues. I am using Shockwave Flash 11.4.402.287 on Firefox 16.0.1. I am running on Windows 7 Enterprise. Disabling the plugin allows me to load pages quickly, but I am not able to view videos or play games. Firefox freezes upon loading a page that uses Flash. It remains frozen for an unacceptable length of time, then it will unfreeze on its own accord. The freeze affects the entire computer. I cannot interact with the desktop or the Windows start bar, and can only close Firefox by forcibly ending the "firefox.exe" process via Task Manager.
This is not the first version of Firefox that has displayed this problem to me. Firefox 15 also froze upon using Flash.
I had hoped that the latest Firefox update would solve this problem, but apparently not. Until then, I am forced to use Chrome, which is quite inconvenient for me as I am not at all familiar with that browser and am constantly clicking the settings button when I want to to go to my home page.
These freezes are incredibly frustrating and annoying. If Mozilla wishes to build a better Internet, they should try to make their browser a program that doesn't tempt me towards rage-quitting YouTube. -
