Flashing cursor on SBS server 2008 after reboot

Hi everyone,
I restarted our HyperV server and two out of three servers boot normally, however SBS doesn't - it's not Hyper-V issue (no error messages in hyperV event viewer at all).
SBS shows only flashin cursor and nothing else. Prior restart was without issues and was succesful. I believe it might be something to do with the start up sequence however I can't get anywhere. I've tried to boot from another DVD and entered DISKPART and
the drive is healthy and set active.
Should I try to attempt to recover it using fixmbr or most probably newer bootsect?
I have a backup which is currently being restored however it's quite big and it'll take some time so would appreciate to fix the start up.

I was able to fix it using a SBS DVD and command 'bootsect.exe /nt60 SYS'

My boss say that i should not use this solution because window server sbs can not run with any other kinds of window server 2008 (R2, standard, enterprise...) and it will automatically shutdown the main server after a couple of days.
Someone have experience can help me. I am so confuse now

And remember, as long as you don't move the PDC to one of the new DCs, you can leave the SBS 2008 up indefinitely. But I would remove Exchange 2007 off it right away once I've migrated the mailboxes and public folders, otherwise
you will get yourself into an Exchange coexistence scenario which is much more complex to configure and support because of the CAS differences, changing the URLs on the old one to "legacy.domain.com," getting a new UC/SAN cert with the correct
names on it, and more. Believe me, you really don't want to coexist them. The only time I've coexisted Exchange versions is during large migrations, such as 500 or more. Otherwise, I just migrate the mailboxes over a weekend and get it done with.

CF10 App server running after reboot; but website unavailable until service restart

Hello, everyone.
I recently returned to a job I previously had after several months at a different job. Upon my return, I inherited someone else's dev system (my previous dev system, apparently, had been reimaged and given to someone else, after I left.)
This system originally had CF9 server on it (the ColdFusion9 folder is still here) and now has CF10. Using the built-in web server (no IIS, no Apache.)
Every time I boot/reboot the system, I can see in Computer Manage System that CF10 Application Server is, indeed, running. But if I try to open any of the pages that I am working on, I get an error message that the site can't be found.
I go into Computer Manage System, go to Services, right-click the CF10 Application Server, choose "Restart", wait for it to finish, and voila!, I can get a working page.
Does anyone know why this is happening, and/or how to remedy it so that CF will work immediately after boot/reboot without going to restart the service?

Good to hear you solved it. If you may still want to know exactly why that was causing an issue, I would propose something I didn’t yet see anyone else do: look specifically at the CF log called coldfusion-out.log. That is basically the “console log” when you run CF as a service, and it would be interesting to know what was in that log if you compared the startup messages in your working and failing examples.
The log tracks info generally for days if not weeks or months (depending on what else is logged in the file and how quickly it fills), but it may well give you insight into what was up. I’m not saying there WILL be something there. As Anit said, what you experienced was odd, but if there will be something logged anywhere about this, it may be there.
If nothing else, I leave this here for anyone else who has a similar sort of problem in the future.

IE is not showing on windows server 2008 after updates

Hi,
I have installed Window server 2008 R2.
After installing i found IE 8 on the server, but after 1day it automatically updated some softwares and now IE is not showing on my system.
i.e IE uninstalled after the updates to the windows server.
Please can some one help me to get the IE. I tried installing IE8, IE9 after downloading but it is showing "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system"

Migrate SBS Server 2008 with Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

I have looked at the documentation to co exist 2007 and 2013. However I am concerned as it talks about changing the dns name to something like legacy, as the dns name that is used for outlook to connect is the name of the server. So here
is my question. Would I have to change the name of the actual server itself? and if I choose not to, and use a new name for the 2013 server, such as mail, would the users that get migrated, would they automatically update the
name change? Also note the SBS server with exchange 2007 is also their file server at present but will be changing.

Linked Server "Could not open a connection to SQL Server [1909]" after reboot

We have two production servers, with RCP [out] enabled linked servers set up back and forth between them. When they are rebooted at the same time one of the linked servers will throw this error:
Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [1909]. 767462021 OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "server3" returned message "Login timeout expired".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "server3" returned message "A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and
if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online.".
I've been fixing it by dropping and re-creating the linked server. It's completely identical as before (in sp_linkedservers), so I'm thinking this shouldn't be necessary. My guess is it's only happening because during startup the other server was not available.
If this is true, can I force a reset of the linked server, without having to restart the server instance, or recreate the linked server?

Hi Chuck, thanks for the reply. Both servers were already set to 20. I think this might work if in the ensuing 10 seconds the other server happened to come on line. I could also set it to 60, but then production queries would be waiting 60 seconds
for timeout. I'm really after a cause and solution. It's as though the server tries once, sees that the other server is unavailable, and henceforth refuses to try again. I'd like it to try again. Really, it should try every time.
Could it be that upon startup SQL Server looks for all its linked servers and marks ones it can't reach in that moment as forever invalid? I'm sure this doesn't happen after startup, only during.

ITunes with files on a server, but after reboot, all files have "!" by them

I have a MacBook Pro with iTunes that has "stuff" on it from my networked home server, and when I reboot it, all of the music, movies and TV shows ave the "!" next to them. Then, I have to delete all of the music, movies and TV shows, and reload them (add to library).
I have a PC laptop with iTunes on it, and to my knowledge, all of the preferences are setup the same way and this issue never happens. Any ideas why the Mac version has this problem, or what setting(s) I need to change?

The external drive has to be on and mounted before starting iTunes or iTunes will create an empty library on the MBP. See the "additional information" at the end of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Go to  -> System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items and add your server to the list.
Alternatively, always open iTunes with the option key held down and you will get a dialog box asking you to choose a library. See this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589

Server 2008 Randomly Rebooting

How long (roughly) between reboots? Minutes, Hours, Days?
What's the environment like? Possibly Overheating? Power Issues? You have it on a UPS, right?
I realize the hardware is new, but is it server hardware, or PC hardware? What about the power supply?
The lack of errors in logs seem to point to outside factors...

I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why this 2k8 server just keeps randomly restarting with no events indicating any failures. This is a relatively new server that I built a couple months ago with all new parts. I did a memtest and everything is good. Is there any diagostic tools I can run or anyone got any ideas on how to sort this problem out?

Long story short, I was the unfortunate victim of a rather nasty virus that made me have to restore from a time maching backup. In the process my webserver is acting up (not sure if this was pre or post restore).

On Windows Server 2008, local account passwords are reset when the server is rebooted. Why, and how do we fix?

We are running a commercial application on a Windows 2008 Server. After reboot, we cannot access the application because two services fail to start. The reason they fail to start is that the passwords to the local user accounts tied to those services have
either been deleted or reset to a different value. In order to restart the application, we must reset the passwords of these two local accounts, then stop and restart all the application's services. According to the application's maker, the accounts
must be local.
My colleague believes the passwords are being deleted or reset as a result of a global domain policy. Is this likely?
Assuming my colleague is correct, is there anything we can do locally to prevent these passwords from being deleted or reset when the server reboots? If not, what is the most granular change we can ask our AD adminstrators to make to the policy, so
that these local accounts are not touched at reboot.

have you configured the accounts to have the permission "Log on as a service"? I have seen that this is not given to the account and therefore the service fails to start.

Windows Server 2008 x64 SP2 SAN disks falls off

Hello!
We have a Windows Server 2008 Standart SP2 x64, which is connected via two HBAs QLogic QLA2440 to a Storage Xyratex F5402. On DS5402 are located three LUNs for the corporate file storage. These LUNs are displayed in Windows Server as local disks E F G.
As the MPIO software it is used Xyratex Storview Pathmanager 6.00.5016.14 (Microsoft MPIO Driver 6.0.6002.18005) in Failover\Failback configuration, and three disks are adjusted for work on three different ways.
It is all normally worked since 2008
But problems have begun with the beginning of this year.
In operation time any of the SAN disks falls off. With a F5402 all is normal and its logs there are no errors.
In Windows Event System Log the folowing errors and warnings:
EventID: 515, Source: xyrsp200 (Xyratex F5402E Multi-Path Device Specific Module). The path for logical drive [SN: 60050CC00020188D0000000000000007] has failed over to [0005 4:0:1:2] because of a path error.
EventID: 23, Source: mpio. Errors in all ways. \Device\MPIODisk2 it will be removed.
EvetID: 260, Source: xyrsp200 The active path on logical drive [SN: 60050CC00020188D0000000000000007] has been switched to the preferred path on [0005 5:0:0:2].
EventID: 15, Source: disk. Access to the device \Device\Harddisk5\DR5 while is impossible
and further an disk erors...
Disk reloading in Windows Disk Manager doesn't help. I am compelled to reboot the server. After reboot all works as though anything and wasn't to the following such case.
As fall off not all LUNы at once (one can fall off, others and will to work normally) a problem probably either in Windows or in Xyratex Storview Pathmanager.
After adjustment of monitoring I have found out that at the moment of failure the current queue of a falling disk was 6 and the size of operation of record on a disk has sharply increased.
May be the disk simply hasn't sustained loading (though strange - Fiber-Chaneell, and High-Perfomance Disks Storage). In Windows it can be somehow possible to optimize operations of work with disks that there were no such falls.

I've configured my SCOM service on windows server 2008 r2 sp1, and it's database is placed on 2 disks on SAN storage (HP p9000). since MPIO is configured, sometimes SCOM was stop working. I looked Disk management console and I saw DB disks were gone! This problem
solves when I restart the server. This was happening frequently and I've changed the MPIO configuration policies. that get better but it was happening in a bit longer periods.
I searched and found out I have to install Fibrechannel hotfix (fcinfo_amd64) and Windows6.1-KB2470949-v2-x64 and the mentioned patch above. I did this and for last 3 months that was ok but last night it happens again.
It is our monitoring system and send very important messages. please help me.

SQL Server 2008 compatibility with SAP PI 7.0

Scenario is like this:
XI is fetching data from SQL Server.
Previously we were using SQL Server 2005 and XI was successfully fetching data from it.
Communication channel setting:
JDBC Driver : com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
Connection : jdbc:sqlserver://10.10.100.180;user=abc;password=xyz;database=CUSTOMER
Two days back SQL team uninstalled SQL Server 2005 and installed SQL Server 2008
After doing this XI stopped fetching data from SQL and error is "Error during database connection to the database URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://10.10.100.184;user=sqluser;password=india123;database=CUST_HO' using the JDBC driver 'com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver': 'com.sap.aii.adapter.jdbc.sql.DriverManagerException: Cannot establish connection to URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://10.10.100.184;user=sqluser;password=india123;database=CUST_HO': com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The server version is not supported. The target server must be SQL Server 2000 or later."
Please help me how to solve this problem.

As far as i know if i will load JDK5 then netweaver will not work. i asked to basis person too he also told me the same thing.
We even tried to load another driver got from microsoft website - sqljdbc_2.0.1803.100_enu.exe
after updating this driver i got error - "Error during database connection to the database URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://10.10.100.184;user=sqluser;password=india123;database=CUST_HO' using the JDBC driver 'com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver': 'com.sap.aii.adapter.jdbc.sql.DriverManagerException: Cannot establish connection to URL 'jdbc:sqlserver://10.10.100.184;user=sqluser;password=india123;database=CUST_HO': UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/microsoft/sqlserver/jdbc/SQLServerDriver (Unsupported major.minor version 50.0)'"

Windows Server 2008 not booting (\windows\system32\winload.exe - Status: 0xc000000e)

i have a Hp Server with two HDDs configured RAID 1 and installed Win Server 2008, after a power failure it is not booting and showing start up error Status: 0xc000000e.
tried all the methods showing on the same error page, when i am trying with CMD from Window DVD (repair option) i am getting only X:\ drive, it is not showing my C:\ and D:\. when i use Windows 7 DVD (just for troubleshoot) and select new install option,
it is showing my C:\ and D:\ with my correct Disk Usage and Free space, (so, my Data and Windows is available)
i saw lots of way to fix the issue, but without accessing to C:\ drive, how can i fix it? please anyone can help on this?

0xC000000E, or STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE: the drive went unavailable, possibly a bad hard drive, disk array, and/or controller card.
Please also contact your hardware vendor HP to check the health of your hard disks.

Problem Occured after Planned Reboot (Windows Server 2008)

I set up test Windows Server 2008 syncd with AD, it was running fine a while ago. Due to some changes i have to reboot the Server. and after that some error is coming.
m not able to understand the error.
Error is: "
