Flex Builder 2 OutOfMemory Exception

I am having a memory problem with both Flex Builder 2
standalone and Flex Builder 2 eclipse plugin.
I've developed a flex component library that is approximately
1.8MB (as far as the size of the project folder). Whenever I start
flex builder I get the following error message found in the
.metadata/.og file:
ENTRY org.eclipse.osgi 2007-07-31 09:56:53.343
!MESSAGE Application error
!STACK 1
java.lang.StackOverflowError
at java.net.URLClassLoader$2.run(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native
Method)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findResource(Unknown Source)
etc. etc. etc.
The only way I am able to work around this problem is to
remove the entire project folder from my workbench, start flex
builder 2, then copy the project folder back into eclipse. I then
have to follow a few more steps (re-adding .swc files,
re-establishing dependencies between projects) before I can begin
work.
I have tried modifying my flexbuilder.ini file and this does
not make a difference.
Current contents of flexbuilder.ini file (as suggested in
another, similar thread):
-vmargs
-Xms512M
-Xmx512M
-XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20
-XX:MaxPermSize=128m
-XX:PermSize=128m
My computer has 2GB of RAM.
Any suggestions?

  • Error in opening Flex Builder

    Hi,
I am facing a problem here in using Adobe Flex Builder 3. I was unable to build the workspace project on flex builder earlier, maybe due to some missing configurations, therefore I planned on reinstalling the flex builder.
Now, after reinstalling the flex builder, it does not works for me. It gives me an error when I try to open it.
Following error was encountered in the log file:

The only thing I can think of that could have caused this was
    this line of code:
    <mx:Button label=">" />
Would that do it? If so, shouldn't Flex Builder simply show
me a warning instead making the file completely
    inaccessible?

  • Getting started with Flex Builder, BlazeDS and Eclipse

    Hi,
I'm a java developer looking at RIA for the first time. I'm really excited about BlazeDS and object remoting, but I can't get a working dev environment together. I'm assuming I should use Flex Builder for the client code, Eclipse Europa for the java webapp code, and deploy from both IDEs into the BlazeDS-equipped turnkey-Tomcat. I haven't found a tutorial explaining how to deploy a new webapp with this setup.
The turnkey-Tomcat sample app works fine. Trouble starts when I try to create  a new project in Flex Builder. I don't understand the 'debug' deployment that Flex Builder does. Why are there 2 versions of my app, the regular and the debug versions? What is exactly the project structure that I'm supposed to have in Tomcat?
The specific error I encounter when trying to deploy a new Flex project is this:
[MessagingError message='Destination 'productService' either does not exist or the destination has no channels defined (and the application does not define any default channels.)']
I do have a default channel configured for my environment in services-config:
And I do have a valid destination configured in remoting-config (I'm mostly interested in object remoting):
                test.ProductService
    Here's the client code:
What am I doing wrong? Where can I get help on these specific topics? Also, does anyone have an Ant build file that would automate this sort of deployment?
    Thanks!

    Hi Peter,<br />I don't have problems passing JavaBeans to Flex. For collections, I used DataGrid, it displayed my collection seamlessly, except I don't get column headers, just a column index number. For receiving a single JavaBean, I had a little more trouble, until I tried to display it with a DataGrid: it displayed a single row that represented my data, with each java property name used as a column header, and object attributes were displayed as 'object'. These 2 experiences led me to these conclusions:<br />- for the collection, Flex converted each element into an ordered list of attributes<br />- for the single bean, Flex converted it into a hierarchy of Maps of attributes<br /><br />I didn't create a Flex value object. Flex is doing it automatically,very much like in JavaScript/JSON: dynamic objects.<br /><br />Here's the remote object markup:<br /><br /><!-- We target the remote Java object through BlazeDS gateway: --><br />     <mx:RemoteObject id="myRemoteObject" destination="productService" <br />                          fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString, 'Error');"><br />          <mx:method name="getProductsCount" result="setProductsCount(event)"><br />               <mx:arguments><br />                    <arg1>{productSC}</arg1><br />               </mx:arguments><br />          </mx:method><br />          <mx:method name="getProducts"><br />          <!-- search params are wrapped in a model, ProductSC (will be converted to a Map on <br />                the server side by BlazeDS): --><br />               <mx:arguments><br />                    <arg1>{productSC}</arg1><br />                    <!-- This works because we declared these to be Bindable: --><br />                    <arg2>{pager.pageSize}</arg2><br />                    <arg3>{pager.currentPage}</arg3><br />               </mx:arguments><br />          </mx:method><br />          <mx:method name="getProduct" result="goToView()"><br />          <!--<mx:method name="getProduct">--><br />               <mx:arguments><br />                    <arg1>{selectedRecordId}</arg1><br />               </mx:arguments><br />          </mx:method><br />     </mx:RemoteObject><br /><br />And here's the dataGrid that displays the bean collection:<br /><br /><mx:DataGrid id="myDataGrid" <br />                               dataProvider="{myRemoteObject.getProducts.lastResult}" <br />                               change="selectRecord();"<br />                               width="100%" height="100%" ><br />               </mx:DataGrid><br /><br />Let me know how it goes, I'd be glad to assist if I can.<br />Miguel

  • Weird Positioning for Skinned Panel in Flex Builder 3

In the previous versions of the Flex Builder 3, even for the
Flex Builder 3 Beta Milestone 4, my custom skinned Panel component
worked fine. So I have an image skin and then I put into Flex
Builder, set the 9 slice settings, did some adjustments to the
headerHeight. And when I add a child component to the Panel
component, it will automatically be placed beneath the Panel's
title (like a VBox layout), position it inside the panel.
But now, compiling with the same files and css in the new
Flex Builder 3 final release, the Panel does not position the
children components correctly anymore. The children are still
positioned in a VBox layout but the first child started from the
point 0,0 of the Panel. So, the first child is overlapping the
Panel's title and all the children seems to go out of the Panel a
bit. This isn't what it used to be(that's to automatically position
them in the content are of the Panel component or at least within
    the 9 slice middle area).
A Panel that isn't skinned at all works fine.
Is there anything I have to change or do to solve this?
    Thanks.

Looks like what I am having is something close to that except
that my problem is related to the borderSkin and not the
borderStyle. But I have seen some of the comments talking about the
    borderSkin problem too.
What I have done now is I use the Flex 3 public release but
copied the sdk from the previous beta version and compile with that
    sdk.
It kind of resolves that panel bug problem(since I am just
using the old version) but I am sure I will be missing out any new
features that the new Flex 3 public release has.

I'd love to help because I know how frustrating it is to get

  • Air 2.0 in Flex Builder 3

I need to use the NativeProcess API available in Air 2.0 so went about doing this by including the Air2.0 SDK in Flex Builder 3 which gave me access to the APIs. I wrote my app and it worked beautifully within Flex Builder 3.
However, when I export a release build (.air file) and attempt to install it I get the following error:
    "Sorry, an error has occurred.
This application requires an update to Adobe AIR that is not available for your system.
I have installed Air 2.0 on my system (done it several times to make sure).
I have the following namespace in my .xml file:
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.0beta">
    Could this be the issue?
If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great.
Was looking forward to using the features offerred in Air2.0 but am at a stand still now.

    Hi Neha,
Again thank you for your help but unfortunately still cannot get this working, I have resorted to using the exact files (except the swf) and instructions at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/interacting_with_native_process_print.html to try and get some sort of example of NativeProcess working and after some tweeking got it to build the exe but running it gives me the same error i started with:
"This application requires an update to Adobe AIR that is not available for your system."
One of the tweeks i made was to the namespace in the xml file, it had to be:
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.0beta">
http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.0 was not recognised running the adt command (got error 102: invalid namespace).
I really want to be able to get this working so I can determine if NativeProcess is the solution to my project.
Maybe if I explain my needs you could possibly offer a better, proven solution:
I have an existing Air desktop app (originally Air 1.0) that is invoked from the browser, I would like an additional feature to this app that executes a command line call to make something happen on the users machine - specifically add a track to the users iTunes library.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bilge.

  • Flex Builder 3.1 Standard and Flex SDK 4.1 build 16076

Hi I have a problem I have downloaded Flex SDK 4.1 16076 and added to my sdk list in Flex Builder. I can compile my program fine except when I change files the flash imports are removed and the code hints don't have any knowledge of flash.display and other base classes such as Movieclip and Sprite. As soon as a manually paste the imports into my class files it compiles again but can't be doing with copying imports back in every time I change a class file.
It didn't do this on version 4.0.0 - I have added   -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=true to compiler arguments as I did have a problem with it firstly compiling about FontAsset.
Does anyone know why? Do I have to add another swc in?

You should always have separate workspaces for separate versions of Flash Builder.
Flex 3 and Flex 4 have some large differences.  You will probably want to spend some time reading about migrating by searching on Google.  Here is a good place to start: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex3and4_differences.html

  • Upgrading Flex Builder 3 Standard to Flash Builder 4 Premium

    Hi there,
Purchased Flex Builder 3 Standard back in January. Came to enjoy (and depend on) the memory profiling functions in the beta 2.
Anyhow, Flash Builder 4 has been released, and I see there is no memory profiler in the Standard edition. I see some conflicting information out there regarding upgrades -- some (third party) websites say it's possible to upgrade Flex Builder 3 Standard to Flash Builder 4 Premium. Adobe's website says it's only possible to upgrade Standard -> Standard, and Premium -> Premium.
The costs to upgrade to Premium from Standard would be prohibitive; I'd have to purchase two separate upgrades and the price would go over $US1000. Am I able to upgrade to Premium using my Flex Builder 3 Standard purchase?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't think that "downgrades" from FB3 Pro to FB4 Standard are officially supported. You might be able to negotiate with a Sales Rep to make an exception for you though, for a discounted price on a non-upgrade version of FB4 Standard.
Alternatively, if you have any interest in CS5 Web Premium (or have any Adobe products qualifying for a CS5 upgrade), FB4 Standard is included with that Suite now.

  • Flex Builder 2 corrupting Eclipse 3.2.1

Flex Builder 2 has some issues with Eclipse 3.2.1. I was
working with the trial version, so maybe the full version does not
exhibit these same problems, but if that is the case, then it is
disappointing that adobe is trying to support two separate products
instead of trying to resolve issues.
The largest issue with the Flex Builder 2 plugin for eclipse
is that if you have a flex project in the same workspace as other
projects (like dynamic Java projects) the flex builder 2 will try
to incorporate those projects in to the flex project when you do a
build or a clean only on that specific flex project. As a result,
eclipse consumes enormous amounts of memory that even with 2 gigs
allocated to the heap, it runs in to out of memory exceptions
frequently and the stability of eclipse has degraded significantly
since I installed this product! The flex projects that I had loaded
were some of the examples dealing with SpringGraph so I would not
consider them as being large or complex. When there is a build
occuring on just a Flex Project, it SHOULD HAVE NO BUSINESS even
scanning other non-related projects regardless as to if they are in
    the same workspace!!!
I am not too impressed with flex's interface with eclipse on
the memory, the instability it introduced to eclipse, or how
SpringGraph handles large graphs, so I did not pursue getting a
license for future development. I also felt that the asking price
for the Flex Builder 2 is steep for what you get and its maturity
level. As such, when the license expired, Adobe had the nerve to
disable core functionality within Eclipse!!! For example, it would
not allow a CSS document to be opened in the CSS Editor! It
    Hijacked the basic Eclipse functionality!!!
I am very disappointed in how the Flex Builder 2 plugin for
    Eclipse does not play friendly!
But at least it does allow itself to be disabled. I am
grateful for at least that level of accepted behavior.

    Cluebcke, thanks for the reply!
I am using a compaq nx7010 laptop with 2 gigs ram, 60 gig hd,
eclipse is set to utilize a minimum of 512 megs and a maximum of
1540 megs for the heap space. Virtual memory is set to a max of
4092 megs. Fairly generous I would assume. I doubt it was a
configuration issue, but hey, I’m open to learning and the
best lessons are through mistakes! ;-)
Sorry, I was being a bit sarcastic when I mentioned that
perhaps the issues were related to the free trial version knowingly
perfectly well that in fact there is no difference between the two
products. But I guess I was also conceding a possible out for Flex
    too. Hmm...
To clarify my comment about aggressively compiling against
    other projects:
    1) I had about 4 demos loaded in to a workspace (269 files,
82 folders, and 7.2 megs including my 1 test project as mentioned
    in item 4)
    2) I had about 7 large Java projects loaded in to the same
    workspace
    3) Total workspace size was about 22,000+ files and 1600+
megs, give or take a fair number either way.
    4) I was making changes to a simple flex project based upon
    a SpringGraph demo
    5) I choose to manually build only the small flex project I
was working on so as to replace all the generated files. NOTE:
Might have been a clean, but only on that one flex project and NOT
the whole work space. It takes too long to rebuild all of my other
Java projects so that option has been unchecked for quite a while.
    6) What I saw in the Eclipse progress window was a list of
files within my flex project getting reconstructed, and then it
started to scan through the other projects too. All of their names
and resources were flashed within that window.
    7) When finished with the build of the ONE flex project, the
Java heap was basically gone. Starting a TomCat server would cause
an out of memory exception. Recall I have allocated 1.5 gigs for
    the heap.
    8) Checking the other Java projects and Flex projects, the
timestamps on the objects did not reflect that they were just
rebuilt. They were untouched. Proof that I did not perform a build
or a clean over the whole workspace.
I agree with you whole heartedly that unless I explicitly
select “build all” or “clean all” it should
not touch other projects in anyway. But it did.
As far as the issue with the CSS editor, I understand and
accept your point. Perhaps as a friendly suggestion, when the trial
expires, the plugin should uninstall itself. This may be very
doable, and still have the functionality of a reminder and
reactivation upon registration if Flex Builder actually had a
second plugin called something like "FlexBuilder Registration"
which would "intercept" attempts to edit and utilize the
FlexBuilder only functionality so an informative message could be
displayed. The benefit would be that normal functionality for
non-flex resources such as CSS would return to normal.
Anyway, as I stated before, I was not too impressed with
performance of large graphs. What I consider to be large would be
on the magnitude of 20,000 to 100,000+. It would need to display
just about all nodes, or at lease an abstract relationship of those
nodes rolled up to a higher level. I realize that SpringGraph is
not ideal for those situations to begin with, but I was exploring
the idea of writing other plugins to deal with other graphing
    formats.
I guess to be fair to Flex in general, I should probably ask
a general question of how well does Flex deal with large data sets
that need to be resident and the manipulations of those data sets?
    Thanks for your time,
    Scott Tabar

  • Flex builder sucks

    flex builder sucks big time.
it take more than 250 mb ram even without any projects loaded
and help open. in work mode it takes more than 450 mb. which is
    riduculus.
also its auto complete doesnt work properly. it vanishes most
    of the time without reason.
it is very slow in everything specially since i have 1GB ram
and it is using it up all.
it hardly has anything except a flex ui designer (not
supporting all controls and properties) and auto complete (broken)
whoever thought everything should be made in java shud be
shot in the head six times plus one for good luck.
i just hope someone makes a better ide for flex.
in front of this vs.net2005 seems a baby at only taking 60+
mb of ram and well working far better and faster than this.

a company of this stature shudnt release incomplete stuff.
its not that i love visual studio each version has many bugs
which are never fixed only newer versions released which introduce
more bugs but one thing is that their ide is currently the best.
when you think they cant add more usefull stuff they yet add more
and lot more of it. hats off to those guys for thinking of the
unthinkable. and these features arnt those which u never use these
features are those which you use everyday to speed up development.
i am not saying think of new stuff just steal a lot of it
    from them.
can you even list more than 30 features than really aid
development in the builder more than just a generic code editor.
look at vs.php its the best ide for php and they did the
smart thing. used a great ide for their own purpose and used it
    well.
i aint saying eclipse is a bad ide i have never used it
otherwise but copuled with this it sucks. (same reason i stopped
using azureus and switched to utorrent)

  • Building from flex builder vs ant task

I have a flex application written using flex builder. When I
build it and run it using flex builder, or create an air file from
flex builder and run that, then my application works just fine.
However, I would like people without copies of flexBuilder
installed to be able to build my application, so I am using the
flex ant task (flex-mxmlc) to build my application. As far as I can
tell I have the same configuration, and the same libraries included
in the ant task. However, when I run the air file generated by the
ant task nothing happens. If you look in the task manager, you can
see that the application is running, but the main window for the
    application never appears.
I tried running the swf through a debug version of flash to
get some log output, and I am getting a bunch of exceptions, the
    first of which is:
    VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.display::NativeWindow
    could not be found.
    at flash.display::MovieClip/nextFrame()
    at mx.managers::SystemManager/deferredNextFrame()
    at
    mx.managers::SystemManager/preloader_initProgressHandler()
    at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
    at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
    at mx.preloaders::Preloader/timerHandler()
    at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch()
    at flash.utils::Timer/tick()
It seems like it might not be finding the main flex library
(flexlib.swc), is that where that class would be? In my ant task I
have an include-libraries tag that points to that file.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I experienced a similar problem (although the class that
could not be found was different for me). Googling around I found
someone who had a similar problem and claimed that using the
    flexlib.swc library was the culprit.
The root of the problem is that the Flex SDK that comes
bundled with the Flex Builder has libraries (under frameworks/libs)
that are NOT included in plain free Flex SDK that you and I are
presumably using on our build machines.
When flexlib.swc is linked in, it causes certain classes to
be required at runtime. Apparently when you compile these classes
are linked in if available, but when they are not the compilation
still succeeds. Only you get a VerifyError when you run the thing.
What worked for me was to copy all the additional .swc files
found in my Flex Builder SDK's frameworks/libs directory to the
same directory on my build machine. Also you will need to copy the
    additional files under frameworks/locale/en_US.
Rebuild and clear your browser's cache and it should then
    work.

  • Flex Builder 3 on Max OS X 10.4.11?

    Hi,
Does anyone know why it is not possible to run Flex Builder 3
on Mac OS X 10.4.11 on PPC? I tried installing the builder, and
everything seemed to go fine, except for one error near the end:
    quote:
    Execute Target File: aum.fb.module.app
    Status: ERROR
    Additional Notes: ERROR - java.lang.NullPointerException
However nothing happens when attempting to run the
application. I noticed the the system requirements that
that Flex Builder 3 requires "Mac OS X v10.4.7–10.4.10
    or v10.5."
Any idea why 10.4.11 won't work?
    Thanks,
    Keith

You must install Leopard 10.5.8 or later in order to use an iPhone. See requirements:
