Flex into APEX

Hi All!
I was able to view a flex datagrid from apex... but my problem is that this grid is static... is there any way to make it dynamic??
For example: querying a table and show the result in that datagrid.
Thanks!!!!

Alejandro,
That is more difficult. A Flex app running in a browser can't directly access the Oracle database.
However, it can pull data vis HTTP.
You can make a stored procedure to return data in XML format.
Then the Flex application can call it from a URL.
That technique was discussed here:

  • Is it possible to integrate Oracle intermedia search into apex ?(1)

    Or do something similar manually yourself in oracle xe ?(2)
    (1)I've been reading through part of the documentation of the intermedia search, and find it quite intresting. Better to use that if one can, then to have to do that it manually or yourself. But all I read is about JSP and PSP, and I guess PSP's are used by apex, but I was wondering if there was any way, to integrate intermedia search into apex, so that one can lookup say mp3, video files and images and display them in apex as well. Images may take some work but would I suppose be possible.
    However for the other two you need also player software to play both of them. As far as I know this is not integrated into Apex, but could possibly be provided by using the player integrated with a webbrowser, and by linking it to apex. So the browser is launched and plays the video or the audio file or alternatively a player is launched that allows to do that. But correct me if I'm wrong.
    (2) Alternatively I was wondering if one could do this, manually in Oracle XE, but then manually, by making tables with blobs and putting the files in there, and then finding somehow a way to get them played by a player, or to have them be put in a directory, and/or erased from that directory, and modify the player, or let it be activated and controlled by some kind of script to look for new files, and then play them off . Could this be done, by adding a parameter new_file_to_play to a message passed to the player, or the program governing the players behavior ?
    I know this sound difficult, and it probably is, but it would have its benefits. I suppose a simple answer would by, why not use oracle 10g with intermedia search ? Well because although I expect this to be the preferable choice, the license is rather expensive for me, and if I could get a rudimentary version working on XE, even having to do it myself, and writing the code as well,
    it would be ok.
    I just wonder could one not, make a table, with a nr, a blob, and then the specific fields for the specific information of that type, and then use a extraction program that extracts that information from a file, and puts it in a xml or csv file, so that say after the images were uploaded, one can load the details in as well ?
    It is more work, more complicated, and not as easy to use, but it could work I suppose.
    Any comments are welcome.
    Best Regards,
    Floris

    You should be able to add a menu option to Oracle E-Business Suite that just calls out to the URL of your ADF 11g application.

  • Oracle user password into ApEx?

    I'm not sure this is possible - but wish it was...
    Here, Oracle user's passwords are managed by an automated process and I need to get new/changed passwords (the same one) into ApEx. It would save a lot of time and effort if I can grab, massage, and then put it into wwv_flow_fnd_user's web_password, web_password_raw.
    It would be great to hear that Oracle used the same obfuscation routines for both Oracle (sql*plus) and ApEx.
    Doesn't Oracle concatonate the username with the password when creating the obfuscated password? If so, is this the case for ApEx?
    Any advice?

    Steve,
    There's an overview of some of the new features here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/whats_new_2.2.html
    However that doesn't cover a lot of the features (you'll notice that the database authentication isn't mentioned there). The Apex 2.2 release is currently running on the public Oracle server (http://apex.oracle.com), so if you already have an account on there then you will be able to see the "Database Account Credentials" method listed in the authentication types, although obviously you won't be able to use this method on the public server.
    Hope this helps

  • Importing Data into Apex 3.0.1

    I know that this question has a simple answer, but here goes. I know how to import data into oracle using sql loader and sql insert commands but can Apex import data into a blank application form with multiple rows of data to import.
    Like:
    U_Id L_Name F_Name City State zip
    15 Taylor Joe Atown Mi 42333
    16 Jones Jim NewT Ky 43211
    and 200 or 500 or more columes
    Again I know how to import into Apex to create a new form from a spreadsheet or access, but I don't know how to move raw data from a text file into Apex.
    Can this task be done.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Tim,
    When an application is first created the developer has to specify the schema that will be used to parse (compile) all the code against. All you need to do is to use your existing knowledge of importing data into Oracle and import the data you want into the Parsing Schema of the application. Use Application Definition to find the parsing schema for your application.

  • Automatically logging into apex?

    Is there a way to automatically log into ApEx?
    I have a link to my hosted ApEx site on my webpage but I'd like to avoid having to type in workspace, username, and password when I visit.
    Dave

    I was having the same problem and I adopted the procedure you described above. But there are issue using this procedure. Let me first tell you what am i doing
    In our Orgnization web we have a sign in page. We need a user ID and pasword and after authenticating the user from the database we make an active session (Language used is php, so a php session) . When the user loged in we have given a link of apex apps by making that app public (As you described above).
    Every thing is ok but the only issue is that the users are now able to alter the values in the browsers how to avoide that.
    So our target is to have the application public but user must not be able to alter values in the browsers.
    thx

  • Pasting text from Word into Apex Textarea

    Hi Folks,
    I have a client that wanted to transform their Word forms (something like customer survey) into Apex screens.. every thing went great but they noticed that when they try to copy text from the Word forms into Apex textareas some characters will show as an up-side-down question mark. Some characters are the apostrophe , consecutive dots (...) and so on. I don't know what is the best way to handle that, I am thinking about writing a function that escapes those characters for a passed text and add up decoding to it every time users encounter a news bad character..but maybe somebody has a better idea...
    Thanks,
    Sam

    We had the same problem. If you can't update the character set, which is usually a big deal, then you can always use javascript to change the textfield or text area before the user clicks save. We have onchange events on all of our items to catch when an item saves and sets a flag to do an autosave when the click somewhere else in the application. You could use a similar function to translate the characters on the browser before they hit the database.
    If you're going to be searching on this data, you probably don't want to store the special characters anyway. They will have to type in the characters to search and some of the MS characters can be misleading and cause them to not find what they're looking for.
    The array configured_values is a string array where the first index is the bad character and the second index is the value to replace it with
    function madeChange(e)
    { document.getElementById('P0_MADE_CHANGE').value='TRUE';
         if(e)
              var string = e.value;
           //If it is a text-area or a text-field
           if(isNaN(string))
           {  var aux;
              for(i=0; i<(configured_values.length)-2;i=i+2)
              aux= eval('/' + String.fromCharCode(configured_values) + '/' + 'g');
    string=string.replace(aux,configured_values[i+1]);
         e.value=string;

  • How to import 3.2 application into APEX 4.1

    Hi,
    I would like to import an APEX 3.2 application into APEX 4.0. Is this supposed to work?
    Regards,
    Tamas

    Apex is built to make this process as smooth as possible.
    In 4.x, there is a Utilities section for your application with an Upgrade Application option that provides a summary of all the components that can be "upgraded"
    Apex tries to leave your application alone as much as possible, and in this report you'll see things like Date Picker items that can be automatically upgraded to the jQuery version. You can choose which components to automatically process.
    The most trouble you'll have is if you have included any external libraries such as jQuery and there may be syntax differences, now that Apex 4.x includes jQuery components.
    Dimitri Gielis has quite a few posts on the subject

    Is it possible to import a table from a different Oracle database into Apex sitting on a different database? Can this be done from within Apex?

    Hello,
    You can run SQL scripts from inside APEX. So if you generate SQL scripts for the creation from the source DB (you can use SQL Developer for that) you can upload and run it from within APEX.

    Yes, with a few restrictions (Re: APEX versions and Oracle Database Express - which versions work? Another restriction is the Database Account authentication method, not supported in 2.0.

  • Extract data in JSON feeds into apex collection

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if there is any way to convert JSON feeds - from public web services - into apex collections?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if there is any way to convert JSON feeds - from public web services - into apex collections?http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/feed/geojson/all/day>
    AFAIK there is no built-in functionality to consume JSON in Oracle as well as APEX. For processing JSON in PL/SQL you have PL/JSON , if you want to go that route.
    My personal preference is jQuery.parseJSON . You can use this in conjunction with AJAX/ On Demand process to load the data into APEX_COLLECTION.

    While I'd still like others to chime in with anything they may know (or think), I've gleaned the following:
    1)
    "Oracle will support ALUI for the next 9 years and no customer will be forced to migrate off of ALUI. The long term direction is to migrate key features of ALUI into Web Center. "
    2)
    "Web Center will be the strategic portal offering. Customers looking to move to Web Center may get credit for their ALUI cost.
    We are currently selling Web Center and ALUI as one single suite. So customers buying the suite don’t have to choose between one or the other and get both automatically.
    If you are happy with the functionality in ALUI then it would make sense to stick with it till we have more details on migration path, etc."

    Publisher : the next release should come out (eventually). The long term direction is Oracle’s UCM (Stellent) product.
