Flex pitch vocal tuning

flex pitch is not good enough when tuning vocals
introduces distortions and destroys the original sound what is the reason?
competitive tuning programs do not have such a problem.
Do something with this please

Now I know why no one has responded to my query.
I found this article that we could start with to answer this question, since I saw that there were a fair number of views for this question.
It basically says, there is no set industry standard for pitch deviation.  Timbre makes a difference.  What is generating the the tone makes a difference.  According to this article there is much more generosity when it comes to pitch deviation with vocals than with instruments and especially soft instruments.  And that a lot depends on the the context; what notes and sounds are around any note in question can make the note sound more or less in tune.  Also emotional singing makes us (even seasoned musicians) tolerant.
It seems that they are saying, as with one of the generally accepted tuning systems, vocals are forgiven +10 cents (sharp) through -15 cents (flat), in general, including vibrato.

Here is the discussion where I found it.

I'll keep this question open in case anyone else has anything to add.  Please let me know if you interpret this article differently.

  • Flex Pitch destroys vocal just by turning it on

Flex Pitch destroys dry vocal just by turning it on. Turning off flex pitch does not help, it only sounds another way wrong. The only help is too choose flex time instead of flex pitch. The file is quite dry (only UAD tube preamp, a Struder A800 Tape Machine and a bit of Harrison EQ are slightly engadget during recording) the Project runs in 96khz and 24bit.
Please Help - if someone need a audio or video example I can also provide them.
    Thx

Ok, i found out that it has nothing to do with gental plugin engagement nor high audio definition. The problem lies somewhere inside the project file and constellation.
I tried to do new recoding inside the project with different setting, with and without plugins and the problem was always the same.
Than i opened a new fresh project and did the same an voila it works.
So i now gonna need to do the recordings in a separate project, but however this is a working workaround

  • Is there a way to get my flex pitch data back?

I finished flex pitching all my vocals so I went on the flex timing (mono). When I finished I went back to flex pitch and all my flex pitch data was gone.

Look in your undo history. alt-cmd-Z.
You cannot apply different flex modes on the same audio file.
    But...
Flex Pitch can also be use to time flex, so there's no need to switch to monophonic.

  • I'm having issues/glitches with Flex Pitch

When I analyze any vocal track with flex pitch, It messes up quite a few of my notes and tunes with weird buggy sounds, skips & stutters.
sometimes with gargly noises as well. When I decide I just won't flex pitch that area and delete the flex pitch, it's already messed up my track and won't go back to sounding normal. I want to know how to get rid of it! or at least how to fix that problem. even if there's an easier way to just actually delete it. I've even tried to make a seperate track for just the vocal parts that are haing issues, but it's still there when i move it. I feel like it's corrupt my vocal track and i'd like to use to one i already have instead of rerecording all the time .
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Here is a small sample of my problem in the vdeo link below and one of the smaller glitches. it's very noticable when the whole track is playing too.

Same issue for me. Has happened on different projects and different kinds of tracks (vocals and guitars)

  • Flex pitch (Time) needs midi track import function

Flex pitch (Time) needs midi track import function

HI it's me again ( under my studio name).. I don't use Garage Band. I use Logic x. so don't know why you'd suggest doing away with another program when I have no use for Garage Band.
I think it ended up working only because it was a glitch.... when I exited the program and came back to it, it started working. The only thing that didn't appear was the pitch correction on the left hand side of the sound editor.. the slider button where you can go up to 100%...
but at least it worked. This Apple operating system always has bugs .. but gllitching on my projects doesn't make me a happy camper.
They don't even offer support for it. unless you pay through the roof.
Anyway.. it showed up... not sure how it did, but rebooted my computer and miraculously it was there.

  • Flex pitch feature is not working on all the regions why is that?

Flex pitch feature is not working on all the regions why is that?

Sorry that my guess about what you are using was wrong. How about telling us exactly what you installed to provide that '''auto translate''' feature in Firefox?
If you don't know, give us a list of the extensions that you ''do'' have installed so that we don't have to wildly guess or so we can do an '''''educated guess''''' as to which one isn't working.
Help > Troubleshooting Information = use the '''Copy all to clipboard''' button, then paste into a text editor program. Then delete all but the list of '''Extensions''' and copy'n'paste that to the Reply box here.

  • Using flex pitch is there a way to fine tune the start point .i'm using it as a audio to  midi function

using flex pitch is there a way to fine tune the start point .i'm using it as a audio to  midi function

Thank you for your reply Karsten but unfortunately this didn't help me so far. Or maybe I'm missing something?
First the link is a tutorial for iMovie on a Mac. I'm using iMovie on iPad so the steps are inapplicable.
Second it is only possible for me to manipulate the end part of the sound clip to whichever duration I want. But I can't do the same with the 'beginning' of the sound clip.
I simply want to place some photos in the beginning of my video with no sound in the background then after like 2 secs I want to start the music clip. For some reason that is not possible! Cause every time I drop the music clip unto my project timeline it automatically place it self along with the first frame in the project! And consequently the photos and music are forced to start together.
    Hope I'm making sense...

i try to use flex pitch with a previous logic 9 session and and soon as i switch to flex pitch it just crashes no matter what session i bring up in 192k, i dont have any 96k files to test but is flex pitch non-caompatible with 192k sessions

Two ideas, have your friend check and make sure the mid file plays on his/her system.
    and/or
If the mid file checks out good on his/her system have them compress (ZIP) the file and resend as it could have become corrupted during transfer. It can happen.
Your description of the file (zero length) sounds like it missed the last few bytes.

  • Logic pro x Crashes while using flex pitch

    Hi all,
I have been using Logic for quite a while and recently upgraded to Logic pro X. Everything was working fine until now. I am working on a session where i am using flex pitch and for some odd reason the session crashes the moment i move any note on the flex pitch.
I found another thread on the same forum where one person commented that it got fixed with the 10.0.1 update for him, However i am on the 10.0.3 and the problem still persists.
Any assistance will be very helpful

At last i found out how !! http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=97125 go to that forum, before bouncing uncheck the Flex Pitch from the multitrack and go to the track details, and in there set it on !!
    It worked like a charm.
After 8 hours of searching, feels great

  • How to make cut/pitched vocals for certain genres

I want to make cut up vocals for a certain song. A song that is cut up and pitched. An example being:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSeNSzJ2-Jw&feature=relmfu Skrillex - Scrary monsters and nice sprites
The vocal part in song sounds awesome. But I have no idea how to even begin making vocals like that.
    Can someone help me out?
    Thanks

I think Skrillex uses Melodyne, but in Logic you could use Pitch Correction (fast retune) and set up a stutter sidechaining with Noisegate. And run it through Autofilter. My 2 cents

  • Vocal tuning in GarageBand on Ipad

Hey guys, new to this so bear with me. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to tune vocals in GarageBand for Ipad. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Do you have headphones with the mic/controls on it? If you have a set for the iPhone, plug them into your iPad to see if you can record that audio. If you can, then we can look into why it can't record the other way.
If you don't have those, I'll try loading GarageBand on my first iPad and see what happens.

  • Vocal tuning

I have a microphone going into my computer and I am recording my voice.  I see the reverb, echo and various options for changing the sound of my voice.  Is there an option to auto tune my voice so that it absolutely not flat.  I realize that it would help if I was a better singer but I'm just curious.
    Thanks for any help!

open the Track Editor (Scissor icon) and use the Automatic Tuning slider

  • Flex Time vs. Melodyne - which one first in your vocals workflow?

    Hi all,
I am curious about what workflow you guys have with vocals.
The first steps after recording (and perhaps multicomping) the different layers/tracks, are to me pitch-correction in Melodyne and time-correction with Flex-Time (built into Logic pro).
Which one do you guys do first?
I haven't yet got enough experience to judge  with much certainty which way serves the recorded audio best.
Myself, I currently go melodyne on one vocal track at the time, snap-to-pitch off and adjust pitch by ear with the music tracks as guide.
Sometimes I push formants around, in particular if there's a high note with lots of pitch drifting (those high notes can be difficult to hit ;-).
After that, I layer vocal tracks that belong together, and work with flextime until they are reasonably well-timed with particular focus on consonants and note ends.
I tend to keep one recording centered, and two (or more) panned to the sides; a configuration that is very transparent to time differences.
I *think* I do this because I have this idea that if I do flextime first, I will already have spectral content that is more damaged, that will be more difficult to pitch-correct with minimal artifacts. While as time-stretching or -compressing melodyne artifacts, will not do much to change the harmonic content of the material.
    Whether this is "correct" or not, I don't know for sure :-}
So, I'd like to hear your experiences and opinion on this!
    Cheers;
    ::E::

    Hi!
I assume you are on Logic 9. I think your workflow makes sense. With LX it´s a bit different.
I have noticed that I really don't use Melodyne that much anymore, because of Flexpitch.
Flexpitch is so much easier to work with, especially if you change computer. Downside of FP,
however, is that you can't create fades, so first of all I would 'clean up' my vocal tracks, create fades,
and then apply Flex Pitch and Time, in that order, I guess.

  • Cant I use fade in and fade out in the region when I'm in pitch flex. Very disqusting

Fades and Cross fades could't be used when Flex pitch is in on

Is totally bad, hope they fix this in an update!

  • Is anyone having trouble with vocal glitching in playback?

Listening back to vocals with the full band, one vocal track sounds weirdly garbled/distorted (almost auto-tuned sounding, not over-driven). But when I listen to it "solo," it sounds normal. This only happens on certain tracks and I can't seem to fix it after it starts happening. Flex pitch is not on.
Most recently, I upped the reverb a little bit on the track and it started making the weird sound. I moved it back down to the original level and it was still giving me problems. The first time it happened, it was on a different track WHILE I was recording vocals.

TTry this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.
