Hi,
I need to use SNMP/SLP protocols in my application.
So i have plan to develop the Applcation using Flex and Ruby or Flex and Java(HttpServices). In future the applicaiton may need enhanced.
please any one of you help me , which one is the bset way to develop the applcation.

I would go with whatever backend is more familiar to the developers and to the ones who will have to updates the application.

So, could you please give me an example of ActionScript code to call a RemoteObject in BlazeDs? The url? and call string? I also use Spring behind. Problem in creating client side PDF with image using flex and AlivePD

I need a favor I am creating client side PDF with image using flex and AlivePDF for a web based application. Images have been generated on that pdf but it is creating problem for large size images as half of the image disappeared from that pdf.I am taking the image inside a canvas . How do i control my images so that they come fit on that pdf file for any image size that i take.

I am having a similar and more serious problem. It takes a
long time to execute, but even attaching a small image balloons the
pdf to 6MB plus. After a few images it gets up to 20MB. These are
100k jpeg files being attached. The resulting PDF is too large to
email or process effectively. Does anyone know how to reduce
size/processing?

Flex Error #1001: Digest mismatch with RSL error

I apologize if this is not the correct location for this question but it was the closest I could find.
I am working in salesforce trying to add a new content pack. This screen uses a tool written in flash. The screen that comes up is an error with the following:

I have been working with SalesForce support but they don't have a clue and want to punt to Adobe.
The support staff at SalesForce has no trouble accessing the page with the flash control from thier pc. I have tried several computers in my office and from several browsers (IE 9 and Chrome). I have reinstalled Flash Player 11 and cleared browser caches. Nothing seems to work.
It has to be something common to computers in my office or my network. All of the information I can find on the Internet talks about rebuilding the application and redeploying it. I can't do that since this is part of SalesForce and not something I own. Also, it works for them on their computers.
I am running windows 7 64 bit. I have McAfee running (and have checked that Flash is not blocked).
The flash player itself works when I go to the Adobe site and try other content.
The only other odd thing I have is that my hard drive is encrypted.
Any ideas?

I have cleared the browsser and flash cache data then restarted browswers and windows. Still no luck. I reverted the flash player back to 10.3 after following the instructions in the link you provided for a clean install but still get the error. SalesForce did not state what version of FlashPlayer they are using but I will check with them later today.
All of the machines that I have tested on have been at the office and all have encrypted hard drives with PGP desktop. I am going to try my laptop on my home network tonight to see if we are blocking something during the download.
This is driving me nuts. I know is it something specific to the machines in the office or the office network but I can't find it.

We are using both Remoting and HttpService calls for our business application.
We were able to communicate with the LCDS server till this point with whatever default settings provided for AMFChannel configuration in services-config.xml through a flex client. Also we have a clustered environment for this servers which works out fine till now.
Now for performance enhancement improvements, we started using Caching Mechanism for our HttpService urls (through some third party service), which will now be cached on the network instead of accessing every time from our clustered servers. But all our AMF calls through Remoting services are still the same.
So after migrating to this Caching environment, we started encountering intermittent issues where some of our AMF calls were failing with falling exception trace :

It might be a bit late but replying for anyone who lands on this page facing this same problem.
The solution for "No destination with id '<my dest id>' is registered with any service" problem is that you have to make sure your destination definition is added in your:
C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\messaging-config.xml
Secondly, If you are deploying it on a ColdFusion Server, then you have to make sure exact same definition is added in Server messaging-config.xml file as well.
This should solve this problem.
While we are at it, wanted to point another possible gotcha.
if your Server is using SSL protocol i.e. it has https:// rather than http://, Then within your <destination> definition block in messaging-config.xml, you have to add appropriate secure channels in <channels> section. You can find all available channel definitions in
C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\services-config.xml

Can Flex 4.6 connect directly with a MS WCF without having to use a 3rd party tool like WebOrb. I have several basic httpprotocal wcf services that I want to move to a mobile app with Flex. Any feed back or insight will be appriceated.

The correct answer to this question appears to be that Apple's terms of service *do not* prohibit the loading of swf's on IOS from remote servers dynamically at runtime. They prohibit the loading of swf's that *contain executable ActionScript code*.
I loaded a PPT into Adobe Connect and then retrieved the resultant slide swf's from the Connect server. I took these swf's and loaded them into my iPad app, dynamically at runtime, from a remote server. The swf's loaded and animations played. I made no changes to my code. I'm just using a plain old SWFLoader object.
Loading swf's dynamically at runtime from remote servers into IOS works - if you make the swf's right. How to do that I'm not sure.

Using flex 2.0 charting components with flex 3

I purchased and installed a flex 2 charting components
library so i could use it in my AIR application development. It
installed alongside the 3.0 beta visualization components so that I
now have two copies of each component in my charts folder. I can't
see how to ensure that the right library is used so that the charts
actually appear when i run my app. I'd hate to think i just threw
away $300 so any help would be greatly appreciated - .

Are you using Flex Builder 3? Flex 3.0 beta Data
visualization components are available as part of FB 3 only. You
can select either 2.0.1 hotfix 3 charts (consists of only
charts.swc) or 3.0.0 data visualization (consists of
datavisualization.swc). through multiple sdks feature of FB3. For
flex 3 beta, flex 2 charting key will work. so if you want to try
out new features in charts and new components like Advanced data
grid you can switch to 3.0.0 sdk and use same flex 2 charting key
to remove watermark from charts.

Adobe announced it is halting development of Flash Player for mobile in the browser, but it will continue support for AIR on mobile devices.
Will Flex survive long term? I have my doubts.
I'll still develop my skills in Flex and see what happens with Flex 5, but I'll also start studying Ruby on Rails, which I actually dislike because it seems so obscure, but there are more jobs in RoR and I hear the pay rates are better.

Today has been tough on all of us, first Heavy D dies, then Joepa retires from my alma mater, now this.
I understand your angst, I'm a little worried too. But I do have this to say, Adobe has shown a sense of urgency in adapting to the changing sands. For instance, they released Adobe Edge for free which I feel was a feeler for HTML 5. They have stepped up the release cycle going from Flex sdk 4.0->4.5->4.5.1, each step along the way incorporating more items making mobile development easier. They realize that the landscape is changing, and theat the tech world doesn't have alot of time for people who insist on doing things the old way.
Does Flash have some "issues", yeah, it does and quite a few even disregarding security issues. I dodge some websites (I'm looking at you CNN) like the cops because I know that my browser will lock up like a big block chevy at 6000 rpm with no oil.
Now lets look at Adobe as a company, what advantages does it have. The first is that is has a headlock on the creative side of things. It doesn't matter whether the software is pirated, borrowed, or stolen, if you want to do design work, you are going to get a CS family piece of software. This gives them a very firm launching point for other technologies and a market place presence. So even if Flex/Flash does become a technological ghost, there will still be other technologies and frameworks to avenge it.
My last point is, who on earth is doing well in this new world software or hardware ? Can we all bow our heads while we do a casualty count:
JavaFX: Didn't even make it to the battlefield. They couldn't transition from the Swing/AWT wars of the late 90's. Such a bad taste was left in developers mouths, they swore to never work with any frontend tech from Sun where the designers were replaced with engineers.
Silverlight: Managed to coerce, beat, threaten , extort Netflix into using their tech. They weren't really able to expand past that and are expected to be put down like Old Yeller.
Blackberry Playbook: They didn't stock their first tablet offering with email and calendar. For their insolence, they were rewarded with 3.3% market share. It doesn't help that as of late, their products have been met with the same excitement one would find at a wake.
HP Touchpad: No one really knows what is going on with HP, not even the Board of Directors. I got a Touchpad, threw Cyanogenmod on it and went to work, was a great deal for the price. An also ran in the big scheme of things, especially since they are playing musical chairs with their CEO position and business plans.
So when we compare the techs that left the gate, it appears that getting to today and still having a pulse puts you in elite company.

Nls support with oracle xml parser in java

I'm using The JAXP interface to manipulate xml with xsl. the implementation that I use is Oracle xml parser.
My xml contains a lot of hebrew chars, and in the result stream each char translated into 5-6 chars, which makes the result to be 5-6 times bigger than it suppose to be, and harder for me to debug my application.
The client's browser shows the results well.
How can I make the transformator to transform the hebrew chars to hebrew char istead of longer and not readable string ?

Having trouble with creation of a cloud service with multiple virtual machines using java sdk.

I am creating a cloud service on azure with 2 virtual machines using java sdk API. Service created successfully.
My input endpoint details are as follows.
INPUT ENDPOINTS
Head : 191.238.144.47:2400
Head : 191.238.144.47:22
Node0 : 191.238.144.47:43211
For Head instance port 2400 is for HTTPS and port 22 is for SSH and for Node0 instance port 43211 is for SSH.
But I am having problem with doing a ssh on Head instance. Sometimes it works sometimes doesn't. Same problem with HTTPS also.
I have some application running over there but when i try to access it thru browser sometimes it works but most of the time doesn't. When I restart the instances from azure portal, its works after
that(not always but most of the time).
Now I am confused what is going on there. I am creating cloud service and virtual machines using java sdk and setting input endpoints also. After creation of all instances i restart every instance programmatically .
I am not sure whether restart is required or not. It must be something to do with input endpoints only but not able to get the right thing i guess. When i do the same thing thru azure portal(creation of cloud service with virtual machines and setting up input
end points) everything works fine but not achieving the result when implementing it by java sdk API. Please help me.
