Flickering in Canvas

Just hooked my Mac Pro to a new 30" Samsung 305T monitor. Final Cut Pro displays fine, with one problem: images in the Canvas flicker while playing a sequence. The Viewer is OK: clips play perfectly. But the Canvas seems to vascillate erratically between different frames. (The timeline plays properly on the external NTSC monitor.)
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re-booting the system seems to have fixed the problem. Go figure.

  • Java 3D on Win2K with JDK1.4

    Hi!
    I am using Java 3D to create a few scenes.I understand that
    J3D v1.2.1_0x is not compatible with JDK1.4 and so have recently
    installed J3D v1.3 beta2.
    However with this upgraded version I am getting a flickering white canvas
    making the scene highly unstable.
    This however I observed only on the Win2K and there was no problem
    when I tested on WinNT.
    Anyone of you come across this situation,could you please help !
    Thanks,
    Renji.

    Thanks for your reply.
    Well actually my 3D application works fine too,however its this
    white patch that is annoying.I was infact curious because I observed
    the same when I ran the demo programs too,and this only when I was using
    Win2K with Java 1.4.
    I also noticed that this happens mostly during the following actions :
    1.When we minimise and then maximise the Window running the 3D application.
    2.If we try switching between 2 or more applications and return to our main Application.
    3.If an application is opened and placed above our main application the moment we minimize or
    close the application it leaves behind the white patch on our main application.
    Thanks again,
    Renji.

  • Canvas flickering black in FCPX

    Everything was fine until last night. Suddenly couldn't see anything in the canvas but figured out that hitting W fixed that problem.
    Now all video in the canvas is flickering black when I play the video. Looks like about 2-3 frames of video interchanging with 2-3 frames of black at all times. Haven't seen any previous posts in the community that can solve this.
    Also, when I import videos, I don't see the normal film strip in then browser, just a series of screen shots one after the other, and whichever screenshot the playhead is on gets displayed as black rather than scrolling through the video as I scrub across. I attached a screenshot. Any ideas??

    This worked very briefly. I originally had the problem while re-editing the entire project because all of the video clips somehow disappeared (also, I did the first project with GoPro footage with the fisheye effect, and I'm replacing that footage with the same clips converted to widescreen).
    I trashed the preferences using Preference Manager and then the clips played fine, no flickering. I then went back to my first project (see attached screenshot) to see if that one would play, but that whole project is still black for some reason. I tried re-linking the clips, but notice in the screen shot below, they don't show up as offline, there's just nothing there. Then I went back to my second project, where the flickering was yesterday, and the flickering is now back. I trashed the preferences again and this time it's not fixing the problem
    The screenshot below is of my older project. Notice the playhead creates a blank square in the browser and nothing shows up in the canvas. This is the same in my other project, but all playback has that flickering.
    Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

  • Flickering pixelated patterns across canvas in CS6 on Mac OS X

    I recently re-installed CS6 on my iMac and how I am having a problem in Photoshop. Random pixelated patterns in grey, black and other colours flicker all over the canvas whenever I try to do anything, such as using any tool or even zooming in/out.
    The "patterns" are made up of little rectangles and appear all over the canvas:
    Additionally, when I have anything on the canvas selected, the flickering extends over the grey background area as well:
    This only seems to happen when I make a selection, not when using tools, zooming etc. It's hard get a screenshot how annoying this is, but it is flickering very rapidly across the whole screen, somtimes large chunks as shown above, sometimes very small ones.
    I have had Photshop installed on this computer for a year with no issues.Any ideas what may have caused this or how to fix it? I have googled but all I can find is an issue relating to a flickering background in Windows 8. Any advice would be much appreciated - I am a professional web designer and this is driving me crazy! May be worth mentioning that I am not having any issues in Illustrator.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here are a few things to look at. Try each step until your Epson printer works
    Be sure you are updated to 13.0.6  Help > Updates
    Another is to uninstall/reinstall the drivers from an administrator account to be sure proper permissions are set.
    Reset prefs: Quit Photoshop, Hold down cmd-opt-shift, and start Photoshop. You will see a "delete settings" dialog. Agree and see if that fixes it.
    Others have had success by selecting another printer and then going back to the Epson.

  • Photoshop CS6 background canvas flickers during use.

    I bought Adobe creative suit 6 design standard yesterday. when using photoshop, the background canvas flickers and becomes transparent when i do things (zoom, erase, brush)
    I have followed the solution of changing the drawing mode to Basic, but it is still an issue and is making photoshop unusable.
    any help?

    Are you on Windows 8, by any chance?  Win8 has some known problems with it's video card drivers, and we're still waiting for all the updates to be released.  We are continuing to work with Microsoft and the GPU vendors to get this fixed.
    If changing the mode to Basic doesn't work - you may want to turn the GPU off entirely in Photoshop preferences until the updates are available.

  • Canvas - Flickering

    Hi everyone!
    I'm using Canvas and i have problem with the flickering effect. I'm not sure if my problem is flickering because i'm brazilian and i don't know the exact meaning of 'flicker' but i think it's this. Well, i have read the other topics about the flickering and i think my code is right, i'm using double buffering. My porblem is this...i'm plotting a map on the canvas and this map is a set of millions of points. Beyond this points i'm plotting another points that represent a route on the map. The problem is the route points are dinamic and they are changing (there's a trhead changing them). When i plot the points on new position i repaint all the canvas and the map points are painted again even they are unchanged. I only change the map points when the user zoom the map. When a route point is moved all the points on canvas' blink'. I really don't know how solve this problem. I wonder if there's a way to treat the diferent classes of the points (route points and map points) in differente layers. I told u i'm using double buffering this makes the things better, but there's still a ugly effect.
    I count with u, Java's masters.

    hi,
    you should GameCanvas Class because GameCanvas extends the Canvas and avoid Double buffering with same effect.

  • TIFF .tif Flickers Flickering in Menu Canvas Why How to Fix Solution

    Greetings!
    I placed a flattened Photoshop .tif in DVDSP4 as my main Menu canvas.
    The entire menu is a bed of this tiff with only an overlay.tif for selections (five scenes).
    The tiff flickers on my 32-inch Sony TV when played back through my Sony DVD player.
    Is there some way to fix this flickering .tif in my DVDSP project?
    Thanks, hopefully a good reply will be useful for anyone else searching this problem here.
    It will also probably apply to JPEG .jpg psd PS .psd pulsing pulses on screen.

    Man, you guys are great!
    Steadman, you read my mind and nailed it.
    It is a video grab, the one part in the corner that is flickering had some saw teeth around it that I guessed was the problem so I smoothed them out in Photoshop.
    I should know shortly if that fixed or I will do it right in Photoshop filter.

    You saved me a lot of time on this project with your help.

  • How to diagnose flickering exported JS animations from Flash CC?

    Quick stats on my system:
    Macbook Pro Retina 2012 running OSX 10.9.3
    Flash CC 13.1.0.226
    I'm not experiencing an error so much as a lack of understanding about how to diagnose Flash CC JS export issues. Here's the backstory:
    In 2012, my company started working with an contract sprite artist. I was using the CS5.5 Creative Suite, and we were exporting normal png sequences from Flash for use in the game. After about 8 months, my cofounders and I realized that we could both reduce the load time for the game and also allow our artwork to be dynamically scalable by switching to JS exports of our art rather than the raster sprite sheets. Here's the blog post we wrote about it: http://blog.codecombat.com/hacking-our-way-to-vector-artwork-in-html5
    At the time, I didn't have Flash CC, and was reliant upon the CreateJS plugin to export the required JS files: CreateJS Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection After another month or so, our contractor upgraded their version of Flash and we started having compatibility issues reading FLA files, so I upgraded as well. After doing some reading, I concluded that the CreateJS plugin was now incorporated into Flash CC as the HTML5 doc type, which was confirmed when I checked out the publish settings and resulting files.
    This is all a rather long winded way of saying that we have legacy artwork created with an older version of Flash but are now importing all of our artwork from JS files.
    Fast forward to today and we have two big issues:
    1) We can't figure out how to reduce the filesize of JS exports. As discussed in our blog post, vector artwork has upsides and downsides. One of the downsides we've found is that complex art that uses a lot of shapes ends up being substantially larger (in terms of filesize) than the appearance might otherwise suggest. Raster exports skirt this because a pixel is a pixel, but vector exports scale with the complexity of the source FLA. I'm not a Flash expert, and when we get files that are particularly complex, Flash either runs out of memory exporting them to JS files or we get files that are far too large to reasonably use. To be clear, the "out of memory" error isn't a problem because even if Flash finished the export, the resulting files would be too large for us to use (plus, I've done some digging and found a tutorial for correcting the out of memory error). Our artist is not familiar with the intricacies of the JS Flash exporter, so when we get a file that's too big or breaks the export, neither of us can really figure out a way to correct the problem. We have three questions in particular:
         a) Where can you view shape data that Flash is going to write to the JS files?
         b) Is there any way to edit said shape data inside the Flash CC interface?
         c) Is there any way to optimize shape data in Flash? For instance, in Photoshop, you can flatten images and export a psd with 500 layers as a single JPEG, is there any way to do something similar to shape data in Flash?
    2) Exports frequently break in weird ways. Many of the sprites that we created a year ago haven't needed to be re-imported into our game engine for some time. But every once in a while, I need to go back and fix, improve, or tweak an existing sprite, and then I run smack into the issue of reconciling files that were created without thought to JS exports with our current system. Just last week I was running into this issue in a big way and I made a screencast for our artist (since we work remotely) that I hoped might give him a better idea of the problem: Flash Errors - Treasure Chest, Flippable Tile - YouTube
    The two files mentioned in that screencast are both old (treasure chest) and new (flippable land tile). We have a few questions:
         a) Why are the treasure chest frames "flickering" in the html5 preview? The problem doesn't appear inside Flash and is inconsistent between files. There are two FLA files: one in which the treasure chest is empty, and one in which it's full. The empty animation doesn't throw any errors, either when converting to the HTML5 doc type or on export, but the resulting animation flickers. The full treasure, on the other hand gives me 21 lines of these errors when I do the conversion (not when I export): "Blend Modes(Layer) is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Normal in an instance of Movieclip <Path>." The result in both cases is the same: the animations flicker, and neither our artist nor us can figure out why, or for that matter, even begin to troubleshoot it. This SO issue seems to describe the problem, but was never resolved, and I can't find anything else that seems to address it: CreateJS Publish of Flash Project Flickers - Stack Overflow
    I've uploaded the files involved to a public dropbox folder which I think you'll be able to access (Dropbox seems to be having some problems at the moment): Dropbox - flash_debugging
    Since my questions are fairly involved, and my goal is to gain a better understanding of the UI, not simply resolve an error, I'd be happy to pay for someone's expertise/time in getting me up to speed. You can get in touch with me at george [at] codecombat.com

    Hi George,
    I have taken a look at the files full_treasure_chest.fla and flippable_land.fla that you have shared via drop box and found that they both uses blank keyframe(s) followed by Keyframe(s). This was an issue and has been addressed in the latest release Flash CC 2014 (released on 18 June, 2014). Can you please install the latest build 14.0.0.110 and try this out?
    Thanks!

  • Flickering Screen issue after Mavericks update released on Feb 26, 2014

    I own a Macbook Retina display bought in early 2014. After installing the recent Maverick update released around Feb 26, 2014 the display developed flickering problem while scrolling and now the scrolling is not smooth any more. The originally shipped machine did not have this problem. I tested other software including Photoshop and the display still flickers while panning the canvas. I also tried resetting the SMC - System Management Controller but it didn't work along with other attempts of resetting the disk permissions, running a systems cleaner, changing the wifi-router etc.
    How to fix this flickering screen issue?

    The problem came back lately and I tried this solution and it worked. Go to system settings > power saver > and switch off the Automatic Graphic switching. Not sure if this is a good solution, but it seem to have worked for the time being.

  • Adding scrollbars to canvas!!

    hi everybody,
    a have a simple ??
    i'm working on a chat application. my message displaying area is a canvas.i have added scroll-bars to it using scroll-pane
    "sp = new ScrollPane(ScrollPane.SCROLLBARS_ALWAYS);"
    now what i want is the scrollbars should adjust automatically to
    display the last message and also i should be able to adjust them
    manually so that i can view the previous messages.
    i have tried setScrollposition() it works well also but then i'm not
    able to adjust scrollbars manually.
    this interface is in AWT.
    please tell me a solution.its a bit urgent.
    thankx and regards
    asheet

    Because your canvas is growing.(I think)
    The new size of the canvas causes it to be layd out again. And laying out a component usually causes flickering (depending on the plattform). I guess the workaround would be to use a canvas just as big as the shown part of it. Add a scrollbar by its side (not a scrollpane) and use the scrollposition to choose what part of the text that should be painted. That way you can use doublebuffering, and avoid the problem completly. (No resizing of components means nothing is layd out again)

  • Mouse flickers after encoding. Shifts. Lags. Viewer and timeline.

    After encoding, noticed that the mouse cursor flickers while watching the encoding in FCP 7 viewer. Parts of the encoding had jerky motions. A previous time, this led to color shifts and other anomolies in the canvas, which disappeared after a cold boot.
    Used uncompressed 8-bit PAL codec (yes, we're in SD), but I think that another time it occurred after encoding an M2V file.
    Today once the FCP viewer with the encoding was closed, the mouse stopped flickering.
    This is the second or third time I have had this with or after encodings over the past several months.
    Sorry for the lack of detail. I have not troubleshot this carefully. I don't know exactly where or even if the encoding is actually damaged. The previous time, it became worse the longer the machine stayed on. That time, even the timeline in FCP had the same problem, and it seemed like the sequence had been seriously damaged, but later after a cold restart, there was no damage to the timeline.
    All latest updates on FCP 7 and OSX on Macpro with early 2009 2.26 quadcore. 8gb ram. Minimum of additional software. Minimum internet use on that machine. Running five LaCies on FW800, four are daisy chained.

  • Canvas repainting in web migration

    HI,
    We are attempting to migrate our forms to the web. In several cases, we experience intermittent screen re-paints. I have made sure that we have Visible=NO and Raise on entry = yes specified for all but the first canvas. (All of these forms have multiple canvases - some as many as 20 canvases per form!)
    In one particular case, I press a button to launch a LOV, then press a button to close the LOV. Sometimes the repaints happen before the LOV is displayed, other times, the repaints occur after closing.
    This is a frustrating issue - if it was consistent, it would be much easier to fix!
    Any ideas?
    tia,
    r.b.

    A number of flicker issues have been addressed in forms patchsets. Worth noting that some JVMs exhibit flickering problems more than others. These problems can often be
    difficult to reproduce so it would be helpful to know what version of forms and the JVM you are using. If you find that it works in one patchset but not another that would also be useful to know. Ultimately you need to log a testcase with support so that the problem can be investigated.
    I know that we are already investigating some (at least on the surface) issues which sound similar.

  • FCP 7 - I can hear audio but not see the footage in the viewer or canvas

    Ive had a few problems with my final cut. Im working off my laptop with a monitor. My immediate issue is that I have been editing fine this morning and then all of a sudden I could hear the audio for my clips but I can't see the footage in the viewer or the canvas. I can double clip on each clip individually and see what the footage is however. I've shut my computer down a few times and its not fixing itself. Also a lot lately when I sit down to do some editing the footage flickers on one clip and wont proceed to the next clips footage but I can still hear the sound. I would LOVE some help with this if anyone knows whats going on? Sascha

    Make sure the canvas or viewer are selected then go to VIEW>CHANNELS and set it to RGB.   It might be set to ALPHA.
    OR...
    Click on the drop down menu above the Viewer or Canvas and make sure that you are on IMAGE or IMAGE + WIREFRAME.

  • Image is Flickering----Please help

    I have one hand image. I am drawing polygon above each finger.
    Whenever the user clicks on particular finger, we are changing the color of that polygon.
    We are changing the colors of the fingers(polygons) based on the database value when some functionalty is invoked. We are updating this color in PaintComponent of JPanel. The colors are flickering some time.
    Please help.
    Thanks in Advance.

    For drawing your component the best of all would be using Canvas component and double buffering.
    JPanel and othen Swing components using its own methods for paint and not necessarily draw components how would you like.
    Example:
    <code>
    class MyPainter extends Canvas {
    Image hand = ...;
    public void update(Graphics g) {
    this.paint(g);
    public void paint(Graphics g) {
    Dimension size = this.getSize();
    Image painter = createImage(size.width, size.height);
    Graphics g2 = painter.getGraphics();
    g2.drawImage(hand, 0, 0, this);
    g2.drawPoligon(...);
    g.drawImage(g2, 0, 0, this);
    </code>
    If you make applet you must cleat graphics g2 and image painter.

  • Flickering screens in FCP7

    Hi, we have a problem with our new Mac Pro 8 core with FCP 7. When we play video in our timeline also after rendering and saving, (even complete perfect projects from earlier versions) are flickering in the canvas viewer as well as when we view them on an external video monitor. The video monitor was also checked by using it on another editing set and nothing was wrong.
    So my question is does anyone know what maybe wrong?
    Maybe I forgot to turn something on or off in a properties menu in FCP? But I cannot find anything weird.
    The other thing is when I'm working with H264 files and want to add a text layer it wants to render immediately and says I'm out of memory and quits the action.
    Maybe this is something caused by the same thing?
    I hope someone knows what to do, or can give me tips to search in a certain direction. (we also have a blackmagic card decklink HD extreme 3d)
    Thanks!!

    Finally we found it!
    It was in FCP 7 under the system settings someone (unfortunately I wasn't the only user that week) had put the frame rate under playback control on HALF!!!!!
    While the video rate was on dynamic so after adjusting the frame rate the flickering was gone
    Thank you all for your help
