Float with Div throwing out background

Hi
This is driving me round the twist. http://www.moodymoo.net the background appears to have been pushed down the page I am sure this has something to do with the float elements within the div can anyone tell me how to sort this please.

You have an error in your code and I am wondering if it could be causing the issue. Your header div is never actually closed ("</div>") before the maincontent div begins.
Also with your CSS, your first declaration to reset the list of elements, font-style: none is not a valid attribute, normal is the standard attribute ( http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_font_font-style.asp ). And for the body tag, font-color does not exist. Just replace that with "color" and you will be fine.

Help with floating a Div tag?

I am having difficulty properly floating a div tag in my site. The page is http://www.planetwhistler.com/bandbs.html The Div on the bottom of the second column with 'content for right_bandb_div' goes here will not properly float to the right of the Div to the left of it. I have floated the 'right_bandb_' div to the left with enough of a margin to clear the div tag in the first column, I have also put the code for 'right_bandb' before the code for the div to the left of it but for some reason it won't properly place itself. Thanks for any help provided.

Can I replace my table with divs, in this context?

Hi,
I'm trying to accomplish something without the use of tables. Maybe someone can tell me how.
- The skeleton is basically made up of 3 newspaper-style columns.
- Their widths aren't very likely to change -- their widths will be fixed -- so this eliminates one problem right off the bat, right?
- The first column (left) is a sidebar menu, and it has its own distinct background image pattern.
- The other two columns (mid and right) share a flat background. Right now, I'm just calling the same 1k JPG twice (once in each of those two columns/cells). I find this simpler than creating an unnecessary container just for the common background.
- All 3 columns begin at the same line (0).
So far so good, the fixed widths and the fact that they all begin at y=0 makes this easier than it otherwise could have been.
Now here's the tricky part :
- The amount of content is different from page to page (some pages are longer than others), and the amount of content per column will also vary individually (so the sidebar might be the longest column in one file, the mid column could be the longest element in the next, and so on...)
- The layout is horizontally centered.
- All 3 columns need to end at the same spot, which will be dynamic from page to page (in other words, the backgrounds of these columns need to stretch/repeat until the end of the column with the most content, whichever of the 3 columns that may be on any given page).
- There is a page-end image to display that is as wide as the combined 3 column widths.
As you can imagine, using a table with 3 columns makes this easy as pie. But I was told to avoid tables whenever possible, so if there's an easy way to justapose 3 divs and have them behave like 3 cells of the same table -- without too much markup -- I'd give it a try, and potentially leave tables behind for good.
It would be easy enough to create a large container div, horizontally center it, and left-float 3 divs inside it... but this doesn't address the problem of having to have those backgrounds repeat all the way to the end of the site. The way I just described, the backgrounds would vertically end wherever the content of that individual column ends.
And since we know divs don't like height=100%, well...
Any help would be appreciated.

Site with div newbee question - content is not showing rights

I have set up a template with div codes and it looks right.
However as soon as I am putting content into my editable div (content) - the design goes funny. I am sure there is something stupid that I made wrong.

However looking at your css you should never set a height on a <div> unless you actually know what height it is going to be and you will only ever know that on 2 ocassions:
1) If only an image/s is in the <div>
2) When you specifically set the height of a <div> for a scrolling area.
I would remove any height from the <divs> where they not needed. Setting height for <divs> will generally pose you a nightmare as you can never keep track of them. Building for the web is ALL to do with mathematics and calculations. If you are out by the slightest, only has to be a pixel, then you could find yourself in all sorts of problems.

All emails in Mail print with a light gray background.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion all the emails I print from Mail shows with a light gray background.
How can I change that?
The printouts just look dirty.

I'm on 10.8.5 which is the latest update.
I have an HP Laserjet which is about 8 years old. I tried printing out this page and it showed gray. Also went to webmail and the same thing happened. But it didn't happen in InDesign.
Do you have any idea what's causing this?

Web template layout with divs

Hello Dreamweavers.
Id like know if I am thinking correctly, I'm coming from Indesign into Dreamweaver, and trying to understand the philosophy of DW.
ive have done a rough website layout just for educational purposes. So am I thinking correctly, that we divide our website into DIVS sections
and then drag and drop our content within the divs?we have initially planned our website how it will look and then we go and structure it in DW.
so in this case I have made 9 Div tags and named them,is this a correct approach to it? I have also nested some divs within some divs just to confuse my mind
on how to go on about the design process. So any feed back and advise is always welcome.

Floating a div

Floating a <div>
I have two content areas below my logo and navigation bar, I entered this HTML,

I then floated the left div to the left and the right div to the right, I never specified a height for the left div as I wanted it to auto expand with the content as it dose, the right div I did specify a height of 300 pixels, now I thought once the left div came down by the 300 pixles mark and cleared the right div I thought it would then take up the space on the below the right div.
I thought of another idea but don't know if it's possible, to make only one area bellow my navigation bar that auto expands with the content, and place a box (div) on top is this possible, (like floating a div on top of another) I just want an area of 200x300 like a notice area to sit on top of the main content area, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A floated <div> will never surround (or go under in the way you're saying) a non-floated <div>
This is correct.
floated divs basically seem to have less priority than those that are not.
This is fantasy.
In that case you would want the right <div> to have the rule {float: right;} so the content in the left one would essentially surround it.
That's incorrect. If you have this -
<div id="left"></div>
<div id="right" style="float:right;"></div>
then the right div will be BELOW the left div, not to its right. To make it appear to the right, you would have to float the left div to the left, and the right div to the left as well.
If you decide you still want the left one floated, what you can do to make that floated <div> extend beyond the content <div> is add the rule {overflow: auto;} to it and that may work, or you may have to have to set that on the #bodyArea div if that doesn't work.
Sorry, this makes no sense at all.

XSOMParser throwing out of memory error

Currently we are using XSOM parser with DomAnnotationParserFactory to parse XSD file. For small files it is working fine. However is was throwing out of memory error while parsing 9MB file. We could understood reason behind this. Is there any way to resolve this issue?

Photoshop sliced layout output are table base, do it can control the position by CSS with div?

I have make some image in Photoshop, and sliced it to html
page, but open it in dreamweaver it show me the table layout that
Photoshop Sliced maked ..
I am wonder, now many web site are integration with CSS, and
I had saw some total using CSS with div maked Web Site, how to
control the sliced image after that Photoshop sliced it?
Any simple example for newbie reference?

It seems you have exported the html from photoshop into
Dreamweaver.
This is not the best way to build a page. You should slice up
your images
and then export the images only into a folder. You then build
the page
using these exported images in your table or css layout. You
can place the
images directly into table cells or divs or use them as
background images
via css.

Firefox freezes when i visit websites with videos on the background or i watch videos.I have windows 7 and the laatest version of mozilla.

I have windows 7 and the latest version of firefox.When i watch videos on youtube or visit websites with videos on the background mozilla freezes. I tried to disable all the extensions and plugins but it had no result.I didn't had this problem with versions of mozilla previous to 4.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

Help with Div Tags

I've got 2 flash files in separate div tags. Div 1 is sized 100% x 100% to match the movie, and the other div tag is set at 900px x 700px (again to match the movie). The 1st tag sort of acts as a background to the top layer. This all works great and really happy with the result.
My only problem is when the browser window gets smaller than the top layer a scroll bar appears (this is no problem, i actually don't want the top layer to resize due to text legibility etc.) but what i notice is that when you scroll to view the rest of the top layer, the bottom layer no longer fills the screen, the remainder of the screen is now white, it actually cuts off some of the image from where the window was in it's last position.

Any suggestions to why this is happening?

Floating 3 div tags side by side

Hello Dreamweavers.
Im trying ot float 3 div tags side by side. I dont have a problem floating 2. But when I add a 3dr DIV the 2nd DIVS margin is making me confused
how to get them floatin next to each other. Here is what I have so far.

Server.app can't load alerts and throws out error getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out

Hi everybody,
I did a working migration of my Lion Server stating all services has been migrated successfully!
All my used services are running fine (dns, mail, iCal, dhcp, web, VPN, adressbook, profilemanger, sharing, opendirectory) but using server.app causes an error while server.app seems to load the alerts section without success throwing out some message windows and those messages in my log console
servermgrd[36677] [36677] error in getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out
servermgrd[24195] [24195] process will force-quit to avoid deadlock
com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.servermgrd[24195]) Exited with exit code: 1
Servermgrd process goes up to 100% and you have to quit server.app to calm it down.
Anyone got a similar error or knows any workaround to abandon this error?

RB jp's solution (move the /var/log/eventmonitor folder) solved my problem completely.
Not only did Server.app suddenly become response again, the spinner trying to access alerts stopped spinning.
Best of all, the servermgrd daemon stopped crashing every two minutes! There were messages in system.log that read:
error in getAndLockContext: flock(servermgr_info) FATAL time out
server servermgrd[38070]: [38070] process will force-quit to avoid deadlock
Those are now gone. Server is happy again.

Transitions are throwing out my timings....

Ok...I am a newbie to Mac but am having some crazy problems with iMovie and timing of stills, titles and transitions. Each time I add a transition it throws out all my times for my titles and my stills. For example I want all my titles to be 3s long and all my stills to be 4s long...however they change as soon as I add transitions...is this just a part of iMovie or is there a way to control this! Thanks a lot for your help! Liz

A transition will "borow" frames from the preceding clip and the next clip. Some transitions, like Fade through Black, will keep the length of your movie the same. Other more complex transitions may make your movie slightly longer.
For example, (Note: it is helpful to convert from seconds to frames)

If you care more about the 3 second length of your stills than the run time of your movie, try setting the parameter in File/Project Properties/Timing to set stills to be 3 seconds and apply to all still in project. This should over-ride the changes made by the transitions.
Note that if you were doing video, it would be very important for the overall length to remain the same. For one thing, if it kept three seconds of video, then added extra frames to do the transition, your transitions would consist of "out-takes" - things you had edited out.
