Fluid grid vs jquery mobile graphic

Same graphic, a .png file I have set the width and height to zero (after trying a few 100% etc)
No the fluid grid it scales beautifully but not on the Jquery Mobile site I am using to learn on. both are in Dreamweaver 6. It was hoped the  graphic would resize without having to resort to media queries or? The jquery stuff resizes like a damn but the header graphic - not so much.
Thanks in advance
Greg

Thank you Nancy O.
     I already had the img src as you suggested and had specified the sizes in css as percentages. As I changed the css to your suggestions, I was elated to find that on screen, the header image resized to fit the screen size. That elation was somewhat short lived however as I tried "Live View" and Bango, it went back to it's nasty ways. I have not specified anything else  at this point in the css, preferring to get some experience with Jquery Mobile, before any external styling. It seems to take an old guy a bit longer . . . . .
my early experiments are found here

  • Trouble styling across device views ( Mobile, Tablet, Desktop) in fluid grid layout.

    Hi pros,
    I’m having a problem in Dreamweaver CC laying out and styling my website using the fluid grid layout. For the record, I have not touched the boilerplate.css or JS file and have been using my own.css file to place all my .css in. I’ve managed to get some of the content in little by little but it looks nothing like my mock up. Since I’m new to Dreamweaver and coding in general, I’ve been starting my design in the desktop view. However, when I switch to tablet or mobile view and move something around, it completely moves it when I got back to the desktop view. Also, when I put in on live view or view it in a browser, I get two different looks all together.  I try to make sure that my .css file is selected and under media I tried selecting the predefined media sizes and then under selector, there is usually 3 of each tag (one for each view I’m guessing), I select the tag associated with that view and change the properties from there. That hasn’t worked because when I go to live view or view in the browser, it looks completely off or it will screw with the other views. L
    So here are my specific questions:
    How do I style my elements specifically in each view WITHOUT messing up the desktop, or the other views? Simply clicking on a view using the icons on  the bottom and styling has not worked.
    Why is my live view so different from my browser view? I’m using the presets given in Dreamweaver for the desktop. When I view, say the logo and navigation in live view, everything is aligned but when I switch to my browser (chrome) it’s all crooked.
    Should I be using % throughout all my properties (width, height, margin, padding, positioning)? Currently I have most of my div sized using % but some margins and other properties using px. Will that affect anything?
    Can someone recommend a good tutorial? Everything that I seen either covers the basics that I already know,( adding/moving divs, switch views) but when it comes to the .css styling, they are adding a style sheet from somewhere without showing you how to do it from scratch.
    Should I design the page in a non- fixed layout and then import the .css style sheet from there? If so, how do I do that without messing with the boilerplate.css file.
    I’m taking a course in graphic and web design and we went over this very quickly and was given a lot of the material, however our final project (a full website with 5 pages) must be responsive and built in Dreamweaver. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Making an external style sheet.
    Go to File > New > Blank page > CSS.
    Hit create button.
    Add some style rules to your new style sheet and save it.
    Link your HTML pages to your new style sheet using the directions below.

  • Dreamweaver CC fluid grid site, how do I give user the option to view desktop version on mobile?

    Hi all,  I've just built my first fluid grid site with Dreamweaver CC, just wondering what is the easiest way to give an option to the user to view the desktop version on a mobile device (so they can zoom-in and pinch around and get to see what would be shown on a desktop).  My mobile version of the site is a lot different to the desktop. I've kept all the original code structure, css, media quries and use of boilerplate etc intact from the original dreamweaver cc template.  If someone could please show the best way to do this would be great

    Hi Ben, yes I know but I come across people who insist on using the desktop version of sites because they are more familiar with the layout of the buttons and dont want to relearn etc, I come across this many times on sites I visit myself actually where I don't have time to relearn the navigation of the site because I know the desktop version so well, if in a rush etc.
    Hi Mary Blight its definatley possible, I mean I could create a new css file with desktop version only css and use jquery to change the mobile css to this new css file when a user clicks "view desktop button", its just that I must have over 2000 lines of css and about 200 classes thats properties are spread over the 3 different media queries (with different inhertence), and I really don't want to have to manually go through each if I have to.
    Was hoping I might be able to use some view port meta tags like how apple does on their devices
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> something like this to fool the device into thinking its a desktop site, or something along those lines etc.

  • How can I add a jquery effect (parallax bacground effect) in a fluid grid layout? I

    How can I add a jquery effect (parallax bacground effect) in a fluid grid layout? I download it from the web (the effect), I use it in a blank html page and all works correctly. Using it in a  fluid grid and no images appears and no effect.. why?  In the Fluid grid layout I add the .html information inside the container.. and I add the css information in first place.
    I download it from: http://www.jqueryrain.com/2012/02/jquery-scrolldeck-parallax-plugin/

    I've never tried to combine them.  But to be honest, I don't think jQuery Parallax is going to work in FGLayouts b/c Parallax backgrounds are not built on a mobile first approach.  For best results, Parallax requires a min-width of 960px which isn't mobile friendly.

  • JQuery mobile layout grid not working after 4.2 upgrade

    Hi all,
    I'm running a mobile application on a hosted Apex environment which uses lots of jQuery mobile. The environment has been updated to 4.2 recently, and since that happened pages that I had setup to use the content grid, to show content in 3 columns no longer works, there only appears to be 1 column now. Code as below: -
    <div class="ui-grid-b">
         <div class="ui-block-a">Block A</div>
         <div class="ui-block-b">Block B</div>
         <div class="ui-block-c">Block C</div>
    </div><!-- /grid-b -->Item 1 has the following as the 'before label and item':
    <div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-a">Item 2 has the following as the 'before label and item':
    <div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-b">Item 3 has the following as the 'before label and item':
    <div data-role="fieldcontain"><div class="ui-grid-b"><div class="ui-block-c">with a closing </div> after each. This was working OK in 4.1
    Does anyone have any ideas what has changed that would affect this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi,
    I haven't completely got to the bottom of why this was happening, but I have resolved this after realising the ui-grid-b and ui-block-x elements weren't being rendered, seemed to be related to the 'Before Label and Item' label template item, if anyone else hits this.
    Cheers,
    Mike

  • In Fluid Grid layout, I have hidden 2 div for mobile layout. How do I unhide them?

    In Fluid Grid layout, I have hidden 2 <div> for mobile layout. How do I unhide them?

    Hi there,
    I visited your site using Dreamweaver CC and tested it using the default Desktop, Tablet and Mobile sizes, followed by the Smart Phone Size.
    The CSS you currently have sets the featurest <div> to 'display: none' when viewed on screen sizes lower than 480px:
    Another helpful way to find out what is going on with your CSS is to test the site with Firefox using Web Developer Tools to inspect the element (or alternatively, Adobes Inspect tool). You can right-click the image and "Inspect Element" then resize the browser window so you can see exactly which CSS rule is being applied and overrided.
    My suggestion would be to add an additional media query in Dreamweaver to handle all screen sizes below 480px and then set divs or elements you want to hide or show display property to visible.
    Hope this helps!

  • JQuery in Fluid Grids

    I am teaching my students custom jQuery in Dreamweaver CC.
    Using fluid grids, we have inserted a Lightbox2 image gallery with thumbnails to display larger images.
    When opening the larger images, the photos are skewed (they are proper height but not width).
    This is not a problem in a standard HTML5 page, only when using fluid grid.
    I have tried both jQuery 1.x and 2.x libraries with no difference.
    Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.

    Youre right - something freaky about that for sure. Some compatibility issue with lightbox.
    Something doesnt like the below css ( which fluid grids needs to make the images responsive).
    img, object, embed, video {
        max-width: 100%;
    It might also have something to do with the lightbox css crap - sass.
    I don't know for sure - best bet is to use a different lightbox like fancyBox - Fancy jQuery Lightbox Alternative
    Fancybox is used by a number of people in the forum, including myseslf. Personally I have never used it with Fluid Grids but then again I wouldn't use DW Fluid Grids because in my opinion they are not very well thought out and back to front in workflow. But people like Nancy who is an esteemed regular in the forum uses them and loves them - I'm sure she would have used a Fancybox/Fluid Grid combination so if there were any known problems she would probably know about them.

  • Dreamweaver CC fluid grid, can I change the position of DIV's based on Mobile, Tablet, Desktop view?

    Hi all,
    Currently working on my first Dreamweaver CC fluid grid / responsive site. I want to optimise the pages layout for Mobile, Tablet and Desktop.
    I can see that I can hide individual div elements by adding "display: none;" to the mobile media query code in the CSS.
    I am wondering am I able to change the position of DIV's in relation to the order of each other some how using a similar way?
    Eg I have a webpage design for desktop like.
    Title
    Nav
    Description
    Buy Button
    Photo
    On mobile I'd like to be able to bring that Photo up towards the top of the layout eg.
    Title
    Nav
    Photo
    Description
    Buy Button
    I was hoping those up and down arrows you see in the Dreamweaver CC interface was going to some how make the changes to each view Mobile, Tablet, Desktop, but all that is doing is moving the position of code in the HTML amoung each of the main DIV sections.
    Or am I at the point where I will need to create a seperate page for mobile only to make a layout change like this?
    Any help would be great

    Hi Complexity,
    I have got some further info, and if I have lead you astray I am sorry.
    I don't think you can change the order of the divs in a responsive layout in DW CC.
    However, you can arrange the divs to sit under or beside each other differently in each of the layouts, for pc, tablet or phone.
    You can also switch divs off and on in each of the layouts, having them display in one size screen and not in another.
    So what you would need to do is to create a couple of nav divs, if you want a nav at the top of one type of screen and one at the bottom. You could duplicate the content in both of them and switch one on in one layout and one off in the other.
    I hope this helps!
    I am doing my first layout for a client using DW CC responsive layouts. I have done two test/hobby sites already.
    It is a bit of a mission learning it but I am getting there.
    I do find it interesting that most people recommend using other programs to do responsive rather than Dreamweaver's fluid grid layouts. I don't think many people are using it yet.
    Regards,
    Mary

  • Can you build mobile websites in Adobe CS6 Muse similiar to fluid grid layout?

    Can you build mobile websites using Adobe CS6 Muse, similar to fluid grid layout?

    You can certainly use Muse for hosting on other hosts as well. You do lose some of the functionality of Business Catalyst such as In Browser Editing. I just saw that you did your current one in Wordpress ... so I assume there is a blog?
    If so, keep in mind that Muse alone does not have a blog feature. You can integrate a Business Catalyst Blog into it with a bit of knowledge on how BC works.

  • How can I convert my web page from a fixed width layout to a fluid grid layout?

    I'm taking a web design class (I'm using Dreamweaver CS6, btw)  wherein the professor started us out building our websites in a fixed width layout but now I want to change my site into a fluid grid layout. My "site" so far is just one long page, and I've already designed it with fluid grid adjustments in mind (most things are centered  in the layout) so it shouldn't need excessive tweaking.
    Is there a way to duplicate the site folder that holds my first page, re-open a new document in fluid, then copy the code in and tweak the width parameters for the different layouts?
    Did I just answer my own question? Help - I am new at this!!
    Thanks all,
    KC

    A bit off-topic, but Osgood: have you ever used SASS or LESS? When you are building your own grid systems it can save you a tremendous amount of time, and it's a lot of fun.
    Take the following simple example - it generates all the 23 css classes automatically for a 12 grid system. And simply changing one variable allows you to create and calculate any number of columns!
    //variables
    $desktop: 1025px;
    $large-columns: 12;
    @media only screen and (min-width: $desktop) {
         //regular grid span classes
        @for $i from 1 through $large-columns {
            .span-large-#{$i} {
                width: percentage($i/$large-columns);
         // push classes
        @for $i from 1 through (($large-columns)-1) {
            .push-large-#{$i} {
                margin-left: percentage($i/$large-columns);
    No, not explored it yet, and may never....I don't know. I don't really make much money out of web design. It's becoming more and more difficult to find the desire to learn new techniques when the opportunities aren't really there to put them into practice on as regular basis as I would like.  I've got  a very good handle on css, php, html, jQuery - I'm not sure I want to add another layer at the moment, given I'm never quite sure how long I will continue to 'bang my head against the wall' . I'm getting to the stage where I keep asking myself do I really need the problems associated with learning new stuff to the point of being comfortable with it if the financial rewards at the end don't equate to the efforts of learning it.
    I don't really enjoy web development if truth is known. I come from a Graphic Design background which I much prefer but somehow got side tracked and pushed in this direction and there's no way back now, lol. Whilst I concede Web Development is much more exciting its also 100 times more complex/difficult and the skills needed are considerably more.
    Your example looks interesting and I should think I could pick it up reasonably easily given I work with php which uses variables on a similar basis.

  • More insight on divs with fluid grids please!

    Help me come further up the CS6 fluid grid learning curve, please!
    I'm adapting an exiting site to fluid grids. After creating the template for the primary pages, I have two major issues at this point(yeah, only two, SO FAR).
    1- I have a vertically expanding menu in the first layout div. For tablets, I want to preserve the left grid column space for the menu, regardless of its length, and all other content would use just the right gid columns. But when the menu happens to be short, the "excess" content floats left under the menu grid columns. How can I force main page content to only occupy the right grid columns, regardless of the length of the menu?
    As a side point to the menu, what happens when I try to put this (or the footer) all back in an SSI, as it originally was?
    2 - I've seen the note about no support for nested layout divs. Thru trial and error, I'm still trying to figure out just what this means. Pragmatically, what is the greater implication of this?  Can format be controlled only on fluid grid layout divs? Can't I have divs inside of a grid layout div to control image palcement around the text for instance? I've had hit=n-miss experience with this so far.
    Can anybody point me to a more in-depth discussion on this topic?
    Sorry if this ol' dog seems like he's learning div layout all over again. But hey! That IS how it feels!
    Thanks for any education, or pointers to such, that you can provide.

    Not sure I completely understand what you want. But in this example, I have set nav and LayoutDivs 5, 6, 7 to display:none  in smaller devices.
    http://alt-web.com/FluidGrid/Fluid2.html
    I did this inside a media query within my Content.css file:
    /* Special Rules for Mobiles. */
    @media only screen and (max-width: 480px) {
         /**hide some divs**/
         nav, #LayoutDiv5, #LayoutDiv6, #LayoutDiv7 { display: none }
         /**show jQuery buttons**/
         #togglenav { display: block }
         #showDivs { display: block }
    Then I used a simple jQuery toggle to show/hide divs.

  • Using fluid grid layout in Dreamweaver CC - how do I create a dropdown menu within my main navigation?

    I am new to using the responsive fluid grid layouts in Dreamweaver CC - and I am unable to find any information on creating a dropdown menu within my main navigation.
    Any ideas?

    You'll need to find a menu system that is responsive and mobile friendly for touch screen devices.
    If you have a budget to work with, Project Seven's Pop-Menu Magic3 is a commercial extension for DW that works great out of the box.
    http://projectseven.com/products/menusystems/pmm3/index.htm
    If you don't have a budget, you'll need to create a desktop menu and add a jQuery plugin for mobile devices.
    Basic CSS Drop Menu

    jQuery MeanMenu for mobile/tablet devices

  • Using Auto Adjustable Fluid Grid Layout Divs to balance two columns

    I have a header band, two columns and then a footer band in the layout that I'm working on.I have Div on each side that is set to "Auto" for height so that the two column lengths appear to be the same size when they get to the footer band. That is how I envisioned it, in practice, "Auto" only seems to adjust to the text inside the respective divs.
    Something that"hould" be soesy has gotten me banging my head for four days. I thught I had a solution, using "nesting tags" but saw that was not supported.
    Any ideas?

  • Help centering background video in fluid grid layout inside div

    Hopefully this all makes sense. I am trying to center the background video (the animation on the website towards the bottom)... I have tried all sorts of things to try and center this. If it can't be done, it can't be done. The banner on top works as should. If all else fails I will just not use a fluid grid page and that will be that. I self taught myself  Adobe After Effects to make that animation (took me a month and 1/2) and I have self taught myself Dreamweaver.. coming from Frontpage and Expression Web.
    Here is the website (thank you in advance for your input):
    http://a1customcomputers.com/Web%20Development/A1CC/Main.html
    I just tested it and it's not playing how it should.. I'll figure that out later but where it says "Enter", that is what I need centered. Thanks

    Not trying to argue with you and I know you are only trying to help and I know that you know ALOT more about this than I do.. you do... I don't know if background was the correct "place" to call it.. but nevertheless.. what I beleive it is, is in the background.. and maybe that is part of the problem. It is supposed to be called from a JQuery plugin, and where I have it now is in a "div [div2]" in the "gridcontainer". It was working and my latest attempts it was working great.. but wasn't centered. But I've changed a bunch of code around lately and so that is why it is not working right now... The "Enter" that you see on the link I provided is the "poster". When I get a chance I will work on it and get the animation working again.. or back to normal.. just not centered. At first I was thinking "centered vertically".. and so for like a week, maybe longer.. everthing that I was searching for and trying was for "vertically center a div".. then it hit me.. you jacka$$.. you want to horizontally center it... Haha! Again, thank you for your input.

  • Can you add video to a fluid grid project in CS6

    Hi Again;
    I'm thinking about the upgrade to CS6  to help with my video problem in CS 5.5 and was wondering if you can add video to a fluid grid web project.  From what I watched on the web, it looks like everything is a one page web site with links to an area on the index page.  I need to get video into my website as examples of what I do and the fluid grid looks great.  I'm also guessing that I could put a link to a video site like Vimeo.
    Thanks for your help.
    Tom

    was wondering if you can add video to a fluid grid web project.
    Sure.  You can drop in your own HTML5 videos or embed  Vimeo, YouTube, etc...
    From what I watched on the web, it looks like everything is a one page web site with links to an area on the index page.
    Not true.  jQuery Mobile and Fluid Grid Layouts differ quite a bit, don't get them confused.
    JQuery Mobile is essentially a one page web site for mobile devices.
    With Fluid Grid Layouts however, you can make a responsive web site layout in a few minutes and then SaveAs Template.  Use File > New page from Template to create the rest of your site pages. Or, you can use jQuery Tabbed Panels inside your Fluid Grid Layouts.  It's entirely up to you.
