FMS 3.5 says 'Bad network data': error in handling RTMP extended timestamps / chunkSize?

Hello all,
For a client, I am working on a project where a live RTMP stream is published to an Adobe FMS 3.5.6 server from a java application, using Red5 0.9.1 RTMPClient code.
This works fine, until the timestamp becomes higher than 0xFFFFFF after 4.6 hours, and the RTMP extended timestamp field starts being used. I have already found: when the extended timestamp was written after the header, the last 4 bytes of the data were being cut off. I have fixed this locally, and now the data being sent seems to me to be conformant to the spec. However, FMS still throws an error message in the core log and then kills the connection from the Red5 client. Here is the error message:
This is the error message:

The message for which the hex dump is displayed, is a video message of size 4925 bytes. Below is the basic logging in my application:

I have captured the entire frame containing this message with wireshark, and annotated it a bit. You can find it here:
http://pastebin.com/iVtphPgU
The video message of 4925 bytes (hex 00 13 3D) is cut up into chunks of 1024 bytes (chunkSize 1024 set by Red5 client and sent to FMS). Indeed, after the 12-byte header and the 4-byte extended timestamp, there are 1024 bytes before the 1-byte header for the next chunk (hex C5). The chunks after that also contain 1024 bytes after the chunk header. This appears correct to me (though please correct me if I'm wrong).
When we look at the error message in the core log, the hex dump displayed also contains 1024 bytes, but it starts from the beginning of the message header. The last 16 bytes of the message chunk itself are not shown.
My question is this: is the hex dump in the error message always capped to 1024 bytes, or did FMS really read too little data?
Something that may be of help, is the reported 'too long' message length 11893407. This corresponds to hex B5 7A 9F, which can also be found in the packet, namely at row 0c60 (I've annotated it as [b5 7a 9f]. This location is exactly 16 bytes after the start of the 4th chunk data, not really a place to look for timestamps.
My assumptions during this bug hunting session were the following (would be nice if someone could validate these for me):
- message length, as specified in the RTMP 12 and 8-bit headers, defines the total number of data bytes for the message, NOT including the header of the first message chunk, its extended timestamp field, or the 1-byte headers for subsequent chunks. The behaviour is the same whether or not the message has an extended timestamp.
- chunk size, as set by the chunkSize message, defines the total number of data bytes for the chunk, not incuding the header or extended timestamp field. The behaviour is the same whether or not the message has an extended timestamp.
I believe I've chased this problem as far as I can without having access to the FMS 3.5 code, or at least being able to crank up the debug logging to the per-message level. I realize it's a pretty detailed issue and a long shot, but being able to publish a stream continuously 24/7 is critical for the project.
I would be very grateful if someone could have a look at this hex dump to see if the message itself is correct, and if so, to have a look at how FMS3.5.6 handles this.
Don't hesitate to ask me for more info if it can help.
Thanks in advance

Solidity

Hello,
It took a bit longer than expected, but I have managed to create a minimal test application that will reproduce the error condition on all machines I've tested on. The application will simply read an H264 file and publish it to an FMS as a live stream. To hit the error condition faster, without having to wait 4.6 hours, the application will add a fixed offset to all timestamps before sending it to the FMS.
I have created two files:
http://www.solidity.be/publishtest.jar : Runnable java archive with all libraries built in
http://www.solidity.be/publishtest.zip : Zip file containing sources and libraries
You can run the jar as follows:
java -jar publishtest.jar <inputFile> <server> <port> <application> <stream> <timestampOffset>
- inputFile: path to an H264 input video file
- server: hostname or IP of FMS server to publish to
- port: port number to publish to (1935)
- application: application to publish to (live)
- stream: stream to publish to (output)
- timestampOffset: nr of milliseconds to add to the timestamp of each event, in hexadecimal format. Putting FFFFFF here will cause the server to reject the connection immediately, while FFFF00 or FFF000 will allow the publishing to run for awhile before the FMS kills it
Example of a complete command line:
java -jar publishtest.jar /home/myuser/Desktop/movie.mp4 localhost 1935 live output FFF000
Good luck with the bug hunting. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
Kind regards,
Davy Herben

  • Bad Image Data Error!

    Hi,
    I'm doing a project for a my class doing a simple sunrise/sunset program. I've noticed that if I either create simple images in fireworks and import them, or even images form the web, I get an error message saying "Bad Image Data Error!" and all the images turn to red squares.
    Any ideas of how to fix this? I don't want to have create images in flash.
    Thanks,
    Avi

    Oh and I forgot to add....I've experience this problem on both CS3 & CS4. Tried it on my desktop and laptop, both are Windows 7 64bit.

  • How to configure Spring Data JPA to handle sdo_geometry and Timestamp(0)?

    Hi all,
    I'm new to this community, not sure if I'm posting in the right place.
    I'm an Oracle old-hand, but new to Spring Data, having done a bit on postGIS, but now trying to apply it to Oracle.
    My problem:  I have a new maven project, with Entity and Repository classes, and a JUnit test program that uses DbUnit to preload test data.
    The current config uses a beans.xml file to set up:
      <bean id="entityManagerFactory"
        class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean">...
        <property name="jpaProperties">....
      <bean id="vendorAdapter"
        class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.vendor.HibernateJpaVendorAdapter">
        <property name="databasePlatform" value="org.hibernate.dialect.Oracle10gDialect" />
        <property name="generateDdl" value="false" />
      </bean>
      <bean id="dataSource" class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource"
        destroy-method="close">
        <property name="driverClass" value="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver" />
        <property name="jdbcUrl"
         value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:2632:BLADE" />...
    <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager">
      <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory" />
    </bean>
    Test of repos.count() works ok.
    Test to call repos.findByName(String) fails, (stack below).
    Now, the current setup doesn't handle SDO_GEOMETRY, or TIMESTAMP(0), but will manage TIMESTAMP(6).
    The warnings below show that I'm  using "DefaultDataTypeFactory" and should probably be using OracleDataTypeFactory.
    I've also found the OracleDataSource class, and tried that, but still get the same data type issues.
    Ok, the big questions:
    1. Can anyone point me at an example to configure the dataSource, or vendorAdapter, to use the OracleDataTypeFactory, and retrieve these data types?
    2. What data type should I be using in Java for the geometry column?
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Network files, error messages, using compatibility

    I use a Windows 7 64 bit Dell at home and at work. Both have Photoshop CS6 (not extended). This week when I saved files at home using file compatiblity (since co-workers in my office are on CS 5.1) and FTPed them from home to the work network I ran into all sorts of issues.
    5.1 users reported getting all sorts of errors including...
    The document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable...
    and another one about missing "color books"
    I read about cross version problems with shapes with the new CS6 vector strokes applied. Sure enough, when I sent CS 5.1 co-workers small test files by email they could open all of them but the one with the shape with CS6 vector stroke. So I went back to the larger PSDs and removed the strokes from any shapes, but the office still could not open the files. The only way I could get them a working version was to rasterize every single smart object and vector layer which was painful to do and not ideal.
    I too, even though on the same CS6 product get an error "There was a problem reading the layer data. Read the composite data instead?" If I click to do so I get another error "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" which is simply not true wince both are CS6.
    So the only odd things I can think of were, these were FTPed files and over the Christmas holiday our office changes the networking.
    Thanks for your help. I can't avoid using new CS6 features or go in and flattern a ton of layers each time.

    Chris,
    Thanks for replying.
    I can confirm I did not use any PANTONE colors because I only do Web design. So I leave my Image Mode as RGB and don't pull any swatches from PANTONE. Perhaps there is some other way the file would be searching for a library that wasn't used? I'm dubious on that being the issue though because I have the exact same install at home and at work.
    What you're saying about "layer data error" (which is cryptic terminology to me) is helpful. It would be logical why one file I tranfsferred over FTP worked and another did not.
    The vector borders on new vector shapes I confirmed by saving and emailing attachments in the office. For two people they could open files with shapes but not shapes with vector borders in CS 5.1 despite compatibility being on.

  • Error in Release of Network data via BAPI_BUS2002_SET_STATUS

    Hi Experts,
    I have to release network data via a Custom Report Program, so I am using the STD BAPI , BAPI_BUS2002_SET_STATUS.
    The functionality must be similar to the release of Network as in case of transaction CN22 or can also be done via Project Builder(Transaction CJ20N).
    we r using the std BAPI as follows :
    CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_BUS2002_SET_STATUS'
        EXPORTING
          number                    = < NETWORK NUMBER >
          set_system_status = 'REL'
        IMPORTING
          return             = c_return
        TABLES
          e_result           = lt_result.
    The error  is Error in processing. Function was not executed . On further analysis, the Function Module CO_ZR_HEADER_RELEASE is causing the issue , not allowing network header data to be free.
    The same functionality works via CN22. Please advice whether there is a need to pass further parameters or anything else.
    Awaiting a response..
    Regards,
    Sonika

    Hi,
    there are some special requirements for using this BAPI. You need to call BAPI BAPI_PS_INITIALIZATION and BAPI_PS_PRECOMMIT with this BAPI. Check documentation for your BAPI. It's well documented there.
    Cheers

    How to fight against it? before such it wasn't noticed

    hi vladimir,
    I checked the source code when this error is set. this is seen when a session stage packet is received that has no valid idb (aka subscriber interface) for the session ID that was found in the packet together with the vlan tags.
    Now this is a PADI, so it is not a session packet to start with.
    Next I see that the function that sets this error is only called for on data packets when the opcode is 0x00 in your case the opcode is 0x09 which is a PADI.
    what I am thinking that is happening here is that the punt software has provided incorrect pointers to the start of the packet due to a sw bug.
    I would like to request if you can evaluate xr513 for this as I see some fixes in 512/513 relating to the punt handling sw that might be of benefit here.
    regards
    xander
