FMW rpm dependency

The Oracle® Fusion Middleware System Requirements and Specifications for Oracle Identity and Access Management 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.1) documentation lists a set of Linux packages, included at the end of this post, as dependencies in installing Fusion Middleware products on RHEL 6.4.
On a 64-bit operating system, do I require the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the package where the platform is not explicitly specified (e.g. libaio)?
Thanks a bunch!

The rpm utility does not resolve any software dependencies and is not the recommended tool to install software since RHEL 5. You can use the yum utility instead, which automatically resolves software dependencies.
If you do not specify the platform architecture, yum will select the appropriate package for the current platform. Since software libraries are usually backward compatible, you should not specify a particular version, unless it is absolutely necessary.
In your case:
yum install binutils compat-libcap1
yum install compat-libstdc++-33 compat-libstdc++-33.i686
yum install gcc gcc-c++ glibc glibc.i686
yum install libio libaio-devel libstdc++ libstdc++.i686
etc.
For example:
[root@vm21 ~]# yum install glibc.i686

    There is no 'kernel-devel' package on redhat, if you need the kernel source then you need to pull down a srpm.Of course there's a kernel-devel package. I use it all the time.
    However, the Red Hat (and associated downstream compilations like CentOS and Oracle Linux) don't use DKMS. What you want is to install kernel-devel so it builds the full kernel modules, not the DKMS module. We provide the kernel-devel package for Oracle Linux on the install media, on ULN and via our public yum repository at http://public-yum.oracle.com

  • Using a 9205 to measure RPM

    I have not used labview in over 10 years but now have an application that requires but I am more then rusty. I am trying to measure RPM using a 9205 module and I am sure there is a way to do it. I have a pulsed voltage output from my measurement circuit and so far I am capturing the voltage. Can someone suggest a way to convert these voltage pulses to an RPM value. I am sure some type of leading edge counter would work.
    Thanks

    Not the cheapest route but there is a SCXI card that measures frquency.
    http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/1661
    There may be some other frequency cards this is one I have used in the past.  With this card you can create a virtual channel and ask it what frequency the analog signal is going into it.  From here there is a conversion from frequency to RPM depending on the type of resolver or hall signal you are using to generate that signal.
    This method is the easiest but the cheapest would be to get a cheap AI DAQ device that can measure several times faster than the generated signal (nyquist theorem) then analyze the series of AI reads to determine the frequency.  Then convert frequency to RPM.  Depending on the signal a USB DAQ device might work, if not a PCI or PXI + MXI card would still probably be cheaper than the SCXI route.

  • CPU Fan is always at 5000+ RPM!!!

    So I did an upgrade today. I now have a P4 3.0E (prescott) processor, an MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS (Platinum Edition), 1GB of DDR400 RAM, and a new pci-firewire card
    The minute I hooked this sucker up everything worked, but the cpu fan is always at 5000+ RPM (as reported in the bios pc health monitor). I thought the motherboard lowered the cpu rpm depending on the temperature, but apparently it's CoreCenter. I use linux and obviously cannot install CoreCenter. Is there any other way I can get my fan to lower it's speed? maybe an equivalent linux software that does the job?

    I Agree With Mr. Moleman, as with all of the Heat related Issues that have been Plaguing the Prescott, I would NOT Be Supprised if it is Written into the Latest Precott Microcode in the BIOS, to Run the Stock INTEL Thermal Solution at 100% Speed.................Sean REILLY875

  • How to install 9ias on Linux quick guide

    I have installed the linux version of application server a couple of times now. I have noted all the steps I took to complete the installation. Everything works except for reports. Anyway here are the steps I took to get it working. Hope it helps. Note: This is for RedHat Advanced Server 2.1, I have created a user called oracle9 to own the software. Please feel free to add comments etc.
    1. Install RedHat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 - install all the packages.
    2. Edit files in the following directory to allow connectivity, must be as ROOT user.
    /etc/xinetd.d
    3. Edit the directory permissions for /usr/local and /usr/local/src as ROOT user.
    This is we can install files and utilities in these directories. Also create an oracle directory to
    store the software. I created /usr/local/oracle/orahome1.
    chmod 777 /usr/local
    chmod 777 /usr/local/src
    chmod 777 /usr/local/oracle
    chmod 777 /usr/local/oracle/orahome1
    4. Add /usr/sbin to the PATH environment variable so that most commands are accessible.
    To do this edit the /etc/profile file.
    Add the following line
    PATH="/usr/bin:$PATH:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin"
    5. Check kernel and glibc versions by running uname. ie
    Kernel check is uname -r
    OR
    use rpm -q kernel
    rpm -q glibc
    The versions shoule be as follows
    kernel = 2.4.9-e.3
    glibc = 2.2.4-26
    6. System Wide Ulimit and Swap File Settings.
    Should be as follows.
    time unlimited
    file unlimited
    data 1048576
    stack 131072
    memory unlimited
    coredump 4194303
    nofiles 2048
    There are several files to enable these settings.
    First we edit the /etc/security/limits.conf file to set the required limits.
    File should look like this.
    # /etc/security/limits.conf
    #Each line describes a limit for a user in the form:
    #<domain> <type> <item> <value>
    #Where:
    #<domain> can be:
    # - an user name
    # - a group name, with @group syntax
    # - the wildcard *, for default entry
    #<type> can have the two values:
    # - "soft" for enforcing the soft limits
    # - "hard" for enforcing hard limits
    #<item> can be one of the following:
    # - core - limits the core file size (KB)
    # - data - max data size (KB)
    # - fsize - maximum filesize (KB)
    # - memlock - max locked-in-memory address space (KB)
    # - nofile - max number of open files
    # - rss - max resident set size (KB)
    # - stack - max stack size (KB)
    # - cpu - max CPU time (MIN)
    # - nproc - max number of processes
    # - as - address space limit
    # - maxlogins - max number of logins for this user
    # - priority - the priority to run user process with
    # - locks - max number of file locks the user can hold
    #<domain> <type> <item> <value>
    #* soft core 0
    #* hard rss 10000
    #@student hard nproc 20
    #@faculty soft nproc 20
    #@faculty hard nproc 50
    #ftp hard nproc 0
    #@student - maxlogins 4
    oracle9 - nofile 65536
    * - nofile 65536
    * - nproc 65536
    * - cpu unlimited
    * - fsize unlimited
    * - data 1048576
    * - stack 131072
    * - memlock unlimited
    * - core 4194303
    # End of file
    We now need to edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file to set the system wide ranges as ROOT user.
    File should look like this.
    # Disables packet forwarding
    net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
    # Enables source route verification
    net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1
    # Disables the magic-sysrq key
    kernel.sysrq = 0
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
    fs.file-max = 65536
    kernel.sem = 100 32000 100 100
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    Now we need to edit the /etc/profile file to enable the settings when a user logs in.
    The file contents should be modified as follows.
    # No core files by default
    ulimit -S -c 1000000 > /dev/null 2>&1
    #Set the file handels
    #echo 65536 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
    ulimit -n 65536 > /dev/null 2>&1
    #Set the socket range
    #echo 1024 65000 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range
    # Set the number of processes for per user
    ulimit -u 16384 > /dev/null 2>&1
    Kernel Parameters
    Change to following directory /proc/sys/kernel and type following
    echo 250 32000 32 128 > sem
    echo 2147483648 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
    echo 4096 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmni
    echo 2097152 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmall

At the time it was written it was used on a development box, on a production box this would not be done. Also to get this install working when Oracle first released it we were trying anything and everything to get it working, it took around 3-4 weeks of installing, reinstalling, serveral thounsand tar's and wasted weekends. I am pretty confident the instructions will work on rhas 2.1, it probably needs to be looked at again to trim away steps that aren't needed now.
    Looking forward to seeing your guide :-)

  • How can I control a dc motor speed using an optical switch?

    I am trying to use LabVIEW to create a VI that controls the speed of a DC motor. The system needs to have an user set rpm and the DC motor needs to adjust the duty cycle to obtain the correct rpm dependant on the load. A disk with holes and an optical switch is being used to measure rpm.
    The current problem is that I cannot get the rpm based on the optical switch.

  • Installation of forms 11g release 2 on windows 7 64 bit client

    Hi,
    I am trying to install forms and reports 11g release 2 on my windows 7 64 bit client.
    When I tried to install it, I got a message Weblogic should be installed first.
    In the Oracle site there are many versions of Weblogic. Which should I install?
    Thanks
    Rani

    Rani,
    Oracle has rebranded the Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) as Fusion Middleware (FMw). Part of the evolution of the suite has been the replacement of the OC4J Container used by ODS to use WebLogic Server. Unfortunately, in order to install the FMw Forms and Reports builders you must also install the WebLogic Server (WLS) on your development workstation. Each version of FMw is dependent on a specific version of the WLS. Here is the basic break down:
    WLS 10.3.2 with FMw R1 (11.1.1.2)
    WLS 10.3.3 with FMw R1 (11.1.1.3)
    WLS 10.3.4 with FMw F1 (11.1.1.4)
    WLS 10.3.5 with FMw R2 (11.1.2)
    As you can see, you will need to download and install the WLS 10.3.5 before you can install FMw R2. Make sure you do not run the WLS configuration step at the end of the instllation. When you install FMw r2, it will perform the necessary configuration the WLS and Forms and Reports Services.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • My macbook pro is hot?

    I just bought a macbook pro 13'' non retina display. (I am using it now) so far it has been very good. It is smooth and quick but I am worried about the heat. I have it in a very airated area and it is sitting on a desk. I downloaded istat as a widget and found these things. The exhaust fan is travelling at 2000rpm, it says it is 32 degrees celcius, the ambient is 33 degrees celcius, everything else is about 30 degrees and my mem module A1 is 40 degrees. Anyway I am worried because it is very airated, I am not doing much on it, and not much is in activity log yet it is very hot at the bottoM. Were the tempratures I stated quite normal, and if they are not do I have a deffective laptop?

    The data that you initially reported shows that your MBP is operating normally and as expected.  The fan speed will range from a low of 2000 rpm to about 6200 rpm dependent upon the heat being generated in the MBP.
    Heat within the MBP will range from the high 30's° c to about 105° c when thermal shutdown will occur.  When performing lightweight activity such as word processing and Internet browsing, one may expect temperatures in the 40* - 50* c range.  If one is engaged in games, using Skype or other heavy weight applications, temperatures in the 90* c range are common.  Fan speeds naturally will increase in those conditions.
    This is an image of my MBP iStat pro as I write this response:
    Ciao.

  • Late 2008, Macbook Fan issues?

    Hello,
    I am curious to know if anyone has experienced problems with their fan?
    I had a power failure at my house, before the failure, the Macbook was running fine as usual, after restarting, Fan continues to run?
    Through iStat I can see that the temp is 35 degrees and the dual cpu usage is at little to none? Is this normal, will the fan return to its quiet mode?
    Thank you

    I'm not sure I understand. The fan always runs continuously. It should idle around 2000 RPM and will increase to 6000 RPM depending upon CPU and GPU activity.
    If your fan is running at high speed continuously, then open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes drop down menu. Click twice on the CPU column to display in descending order. Look for a process consuming a large amount of CPU time. If you find one then select it and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar, then click on the Force Quit button. See if that fixes the problem. Otherwise you may have some file corruption that may have been caused by the power outage. You should try the following in this case:
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • What is a safe temperature for the CPU?

    My new MBP's CPU is running at around 55-65 degrees idle, and upper 70's to low/mid 80's when doing anything intensive. (According to iStat widget)
    I was wondering if this is normal or safe, as according to
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/366/2
    The max temperature should be 60.1 degrees Celsius

    My pleasure. Thanks for the star!
    By the way, the temps you report are normal. Above ~65 C the fans speed to to provide more cooling (they idle at ~1000 rpm or ~2000 rpm depending on model, and have a max speed of 6000 rpm.

  • Freeze-up after RAM and Leopard Install

    Machine: iMac G4 1.25GHz 20-inch Flat Panel
    Problem: Computer “freezes” after going through a normal startup. I believe that this is related to overheating. I have installed a new fan, the fan runs, but it does not appear to be running at a high enough speed to cool the CPU. The air output is very low when using the “feel” test (placing my hand over the vents). All the fan wires appear to be connected correctly. I have applied thermal paste and tightened the bottom housing bolts down securely. I have also reset the PMU and the PRAM. Any other suggestions? Should I toss it from a second story window?

    I am not familiar with tearing down an iMac, so I have no idea what the wiring looks like. I would presume you looked for this information via Google or ifixit.com.
    As for monitoring software you have lots of choices, but i think the best of the lot would be iStatMenus or iStat Pro - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. The former can put monitors in the menubar while the latter is a Dashboard widget providing the same information but as a widget. Both fully compatible.
    Couldn't tell you what the default idle is on an iMac fan but most likely between 1000 and 2000 RPM depending upon model. Mac laptops idle at around 2000 RPM.

  • Versions of PHP and libxml2 for Linux Redhat

    I installed PHP 5.3.19. I had two choices from http://php.net/downloads.php. Version 5.4 or 5.3. The latest version of libxml2 available for RHEL 5.5 is 2.6.26 release 2.1.15. Should I go with this one or should I download a later version for Fedora, and if so which one, or should I download an earlier version of PHP to go with libxml2 2.6.26 release 2.1.15 and if so which one?

    - Oracle Linux 5 is also available from the repo I mentioned.
    - There are 8 extensions in the PHP source that require libxml2. I don't know which one(s) you want. I have built some in the past on OL. I expect many other people have built PHP and some or all of the XML-based extensions on RH or OL 5.x. You won't have difficulty testing it yourself since building command line PHP takes only a few steps; just don't pass an with-apxs2 flag to PHP's "configure" command. You can choose which extensions you want, such as with-simplexml (which is default, BTW)
    - The PHP RPMs will not install on OHS because the RPMs depend upon, and install into, the httpd RPM
    - The OHS web page you mentioned wasn't written by me (and is slightly obsolete regarding header files, though I've often requested the owner update it). The best instructions for installing on OHS are in the newly updated The Underground PHP and Oracle Manual. See page 86.
    - Again, I'd recommend using PHP 5.4.

  • Who do I blame for poor DL performance?

    FF 3.6.3 Over the last few months I (and my wife ) have had slow down and others problems with Internet connection. Most common are "server not found" or "unable to connect" messages but if I hit the Try Again button 1, 2, 3, 4 or ... times the web site appears. I can tell when I have succeeded when the message in the tab changes from "problem loading page" to the title of the web site. After that loading can be very fast but lately pretty slow. The green progress bar seems to go to 3/4 immediately and then crawls minutely. The most annoying new occurrence is that sometimes when the site loads there are no graphics! My wife uses IE (on a different computer) and has experienced similar messages and performance so I don't think FF is to blame. Download speed (speakeasy) is reported at 6-7mb. So who do I blame; modem, router, maybe excessive noise on the line, the Comcast servers or some other factor? Thanks for any input.
    == Operating system ==
    XP

    You would be better off using one of the fan control utilities, SMCFanControl or FanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - than that old method.
    You might open Activity Monitor and check for any process that's using an inordinate amount of processing time.
    Normal operating temperatures range from 45ºC-85ºC depending upon CPU load and ambient room temperature. Somewhat higher idle temperatures may occur for the faster CPUs. The fans idle at 2,000 RPM and max out at 6,000 RPM depending upon how hot the computer gets.

  • Fan controller question

    This is probably a quick and stupid question, I am running some vantec 80mm tornadoes which are a bit loud. Well actually if you can imagine a boeing 737's engines powering up you know how load these fans are. Seriously though they are about 71 Dcb. So I would like to control their rpm depending on my needs. My question is, can the K7N2-ILSR only support two fans directly off the motherboard (the nb fan and cpu). And I have to buy a fan controller right? Or is there another way I am not aware of.
    Im sure some people will tell me I shouldnt have bought these fans, but they really do push a lot of air,
    Thanks everyone

    I have a CoolerMaster Aerogate II control box.
    It looks neat, it monitors temperatures of 4 devices and you can run your fans to it and control the speeds with a dial, as longs as the fan supports speed control.
    The temps are accurate, while I'm in the bios screen I saw that the Aerogate was reporting the exact same CPU temperature as the bios was, but Aerogate was refreshing faster.  (it's a real time).  I have the Aerogate's diode run underneath the heatsink, right next to the CPU die.
    The Aerogate has a LED screen that's blue, and the devices are selected through "channel switches."
    The Aerogate cost 45 dollars (USD).
    It's my new favorite toy.
