Kernel-devel-2.6.18-238.el5.x86_64.rpm dependency for dkms

Hi,
I am trying to install VirtualBox-4.1-4.1.8_75467_rhel5-1.x86_64.rpm on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6.
During installation it fails with following error:
=================================

Now I am not able to find rpm for kernel-devel (kernel-devel-2.6.18-238.el5.x86_64.rpm ).
Any idea?

There is no 'kernel-devel' package on redhat, if you need the kernel source then you need to pull down a srpm.Of course there's a kernel-devel package. I use it all the time.
However, the Red Hat (and associated downstream compilations like CentOS and Oracle Linux) don't use DKMS. What you want is to install kernel-devel so it builds the full kernel modules, not the DKMS module. We provide the kernel-devel package for Oracle Linux on the install media, on ULN and via our public yum repository at http://public-yum.oracle.com

    In short, I found the missing file (libc.so) and I tried to create a simbolic link to it in the path rpm was asking (/usr/lib). In my system I found 2 (32 and 64 version). I tried both, I mean to link /usr/lib/libc.so to 64 version (as you can see in the console). It did not work. Then I did rm and ln -s to the 32 version of it but same result.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

    You have probably compat-glibc installed but your are missing glibc-devel package, which contains object files for development using standard C libraries.
    I'm haven't tried it under RHEL, but it should work to setup the Oracle public yum repository, which will allow you to use e.g. yum install oracle-validated. This method will automatically fetch dependent packages. More info at: http://public-yum.oracle.com/

  • How would I create kernel devel package for OVM3.2.1 ?

    I am new to OVM SDK ..Please help me to understand how to create kernel devel package for OVM3.2.1 ?
    I tried below command "rpmbuild --rebuild kernel-uek...src.rpm" on my OEL5.9 machine. It throw few errors w.r.t KaBI checks fails.
    Is there hard rule to run above command only on OVM 3.2.1 SDK template ? I am going to try that now, but it will be good to know limitation/assumption on OVM 3.2.1.
    Is there any simplest method to get kernel devels/headers for OVM3.2.1 ?

    Thanks JB. It works like a charm. I earlier doubt the same, but real pain was to get gcc,rpm utils without ULN access. I used oel5_latest repo to get gcc and other supported utils. Everything works as expected.

  • OAM Webgate 10.1.4.2 BP7 installation on RHEL5 2.6.18-92.el5 x86_64 ?

    Hello,
    Is it possible to install OAM Webgate 10.1.4.2.0 Bundle Patch 7 on Linux RHEL5 X86_64 (2.6.12-92.el5 x86_64 ?.
    If yes what is the procedure to follow?
    The “Oracle Identity Management 10g Release 3 (10.1.4.x) Certification Matrix .xls” claims it’s certified but we are not able to complete the installation.
    During the first installation with the 10.1.4.0.1 media (Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_0_1_linux_APACHE2_Webgate) the installer said it was unable to configure the WebGate … So we continue anyway apply the Oracle_Access_Manager_10_1_4_2_0_Patch_linux_APACHE2_WebGate patch set and after the Oracle_Access_Manager_10_1_4_2_0_BP07_Patch_linux_APACHE2_WebGate bundle patch.
    After patches application we tried to launch oblix/tools/start_configureWegate but we had a “cannot open shared object file” on libnsl.so.1..
    Commenting the “export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19” allows the tools to be launched but after generating the certificate (simple mode) it stays stuck on “Preparing to connect to Access Server. Please wait”…
    Best regards,
    EDIT:
    After a long time waiting on "Preparing to connect to Access Server. Please wait" the configureWebGate finally returned: "Access Server you specified ins currently down. Pleas check your Access Server"
    Well looking at the Diagnostics in System management console shows the corresponding Access Server up ...
    So I'm afraid it is not possible to make Webgate working on RHEL5 x86_64 :(
    If someone makes it work please tell me !

    Hello,
    Thanks Pramod for your advice,
    You were right the first issue was due to a clock difference (I didn't figure out the NTP synchronisation was broken with our RHEL5 64bit test VM)
    Well after correctly configuring clock synchronization with NTP, I run the configurewebgate and successfully configure it :)
    Anyway after configuring my Apache (64bits) to handle the webgage I received the following error when starting it:
    ../oblix/apps/webgate/bin/webgatessl.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
    --> webgate.so / webgatessl.so are compiled with 32bits libs
    I tried several time the installation and I'm sure I provided the 64bits libgcc_s.so.1 and libstdc++.so.5 during the initial install... but even before applying the patchs an ldd on webgate.so / webgatessl.so shows they are linked to the 32 bits libs...
    I browse metalink to see if there is a dedicated 64bits patch for BP7 or BP8... but I found nothing
    So I'm still not able to make it works on a RHEL5 64 bits... so I do not see why it is certified in oracle_access_manager_certification_10.1.4_r3_matrix.xls in webgate sheet.
    I will open a call and let you know...
    Best regards,

    You don't say what kind of filesystem /u01 & /u02 are, but if they are EXT file systems, then get their UUUID:
    # blkid /dev/cciss/c0d0p3
    UUID="abcdef..."
    And then mount the file system based on the UUID with an /etc/fstab entry like:
    UUID="abcdef" /u01 ext3 defaults 0 1
    This way, it won't matter that the device names will change as LUNs are added or removed.  The UUID is an attribute of the filesystem on the LUN, so a different LUN name won't matter in the least.

    Have you tried to trace the sqlplus command ?
    In solaris I would do
    $ truss -o /tmp/kk.out sqlplus xxx/yyy@cccc
    and then I would check what files sqlplus is trying to open and the "presumed" location of such files (at least where sqlplus believe they are).
    I linux I think you have to use strace (similar arguments)
    With these programs, you can see all the system calls done by sqlplus (including the "open" call). Very useful stuff to catch up configuration errors.

    If you have installed the Java already then set the JAVA_HOME like below
    export JAVA_HOME = /usr/IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-13.11 and try again.
    or
    1. Go to /etc directory.
    2. Open bashrc file.
    3. Add following parameters at the end of the file:
    a. export JAVA_HOME=/usr/IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-13.11
    b. export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
    c. export CLASSPATH=.:$JAVA_HOME/lib/classes.zip
    4. Save the changes.
    5. Execute command - # bash
    6. Execute # echo $JAVA_HOME to verify JAVA_HOME variable is set properly.
    Note 1172419 - Linux: Supported Java versions on the x86_64 platform
    After setting above variable, try for Java -version or WHICH JAVA

  • Where is IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-10.0.x86_64.rpm?

    Hi,
    New to linux, slowly building first SAP servers on RHEL 5.2.
    As par SAP Note 1048303 the Java version to install on the machine is supposed to be IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-10.0.x86_64.rpm.
    Problem is IBM Web Site now only lists IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-12.0.x86_64.rpm, that is SR12 and not SR10. The page IBM Java for ISV:
    https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/download.do?lang=en_US&source=swg-ibmjavaisv&S_TACT=IBMJavaISV&codePage=UTF-8&cp=UTF-8&S_PKG=sap
    Now only lists SR12
    Link in SAP Note 1172419:
    https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/download.do?source=lxdk& S_PKG=amd64142sr10&S_TACT=105AGX05&S_CMP=JDK&lang=en_US&cp=UTF-8
    is now a dead link.
    I tried to install with SR12 anyway, but I am facing issues with the unrestricted.zip JCE Unlimited Strength file, complaining about the unrestricted policies to be signed by an invalid trusted signer.
    I got my unrestricted.zip file per SAP Note 739043 - How to Check for Full Strength Jurisdiction Policies.
    So, either an unrestricted.zip that goes with SR12, or where can I get Linux AMD_64 SR10 version?
    Thanks,
    JP

    I shall disagree with your comment.
    From note 739043:
    Here the URL of the IBM download site, for SDK 1.4:
    https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=jcesdk
    Please select=> Unrestricted JCE Policy files for SDK 1.4.2 and download file "unrestricted.zip" which contains 2 files:
    local_policy.jar, US_export_policy.jar
    And I finally found my error. The unrestricted.zip file I had was from an 1.4.2-09 Java version we used earlier with a RHEL 4.0 installation.
    Downloading the latest unrestricted.zip file one from IBM site did the trick.
    At last, concerning the missing IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-10.0.x86_64, well I just used the current version from IBM web site (IBMJava2-AMD64-142-SDK-1.4.2-12.0.x86_64) and installation went fine and the system is working properly now.
    Thanks. Solved.
