Follow a hyperlink in a word document

I am trying to do the following (in Labview 6.1):
1. open a word document
2. navigate to a hyperlink in that document
Basically what I'm trying to do is allow a user to click on a "help" button, that will open up a document that has hyperlinks associated with the various help topics. Depending on a variable in my .vi, I know what topic the user needs to see so I want to be able to jump to that hyperlink.
I can open the document, but can't seem to get the specific page to display. It just stays at the beginning of the document.
Any ideas?

The MS .chm compiled html help file is the standard for windows help. It
might be easier, and a friendlier interface in the end than trying to link
into a word file. You can download the MS HTML help workshop (verison 1.3)
for free at the microsoft website.

  • Hyperlink in MS Word document to Oracle Portal 9.0.4 form does not work

    Hi,
    In a MS Word document a link to a Oracle Portal 9.0.4 form is written this way:
    http://myserver/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=47602092358
    When clicking on the link, and at the same time holding the Ctrl-button, an error is displayed
    Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-01403: no data found (WWV-16016)
    and the URL is changed to
    http://myserver/pls/portal/PORTAL.wwa_app_module.show?p_sessionid=248080&p_header=true
    But if the hyperlink is copy/pasted from the Word document to the addressline of any browser, the form is opened without problems.
    Any proposals how to write hyperlink in MS Word to Portal forms will be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Arne

  • Hyperlinks in linked Word documents don't work

    Hello All,
    I'm having a problem with hyperlinks and I'm hoping you can help me. I have a RoboHelp HTML 8 project built out of Word 2007 linked files. There's a dozen Word files right now, but I'm hoping to scale up the project eventually. Each file is a topic in the CHM.
    I have two problems when I generate the CHM:
    1. Links to anchors within the same Word document generate extra subtopic files. Each extra topic begins at the anchor point. The links work, but I'd like to avoid having extra topics cluttering the TOC.
    2. Links to anchors in other Word documents don't work at all. When I examine the HTML in Robohelp, I can see that RoboHelp has generated an empty link. When I link to a Word document without specifying an anchor point, the link in the CHM is to the document itself and not the topic, which is useless for my purposes.
    For example, the generated HTML for each of these types of links looks like this:
    <p>Link test: <a href="#_Using_Styles">Later in the same topic.</a></p> <== This one works, but generates an extra subtopic
    <p>Link test: <a href="" target="_self">To another topic.</a></p> <== This one doesn't work at all.
    Before you ask, yes, I have checked the "Convert References to Hyperlinks" box in the RoboHelp Word conversion settings. According to Adobe documentation, that's all I need to do... So what am I doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance for any suggestions,
    Susie

    I have an update: Adobe got back to me and confirmed that the  inter-document/inter-topic link issue is an actual RH
    bug. I'll check back in here when I have more news.

  • Losing hyperlinks when linking word documents

    We use RoboHelp version 9.0
    Project description
    We have a Parent project with 7 child projects. Each child project has, on an average, 40 files.
    The files in each child project are linked to word documents. Every time we have updates to content, we update the word file and click Update in RH project.
    All the child projects are merged in the parent project via TOC.
    On completion of updates in the individual projects, we generate the individual projects and then generate the parent project for final output.
    Our project structure is like this, where each circle represents a folder.
    The issue
    The issue we face is about See also links.
    Each word file in almost all projects has “See also” topics without links in the word document. However, we hyperlink them with .htm files (within the child project and between child projects) in RH.
    Because the links are set in RH and the content updates are made in linked word files, whenever we modify the word files and update them in RH, the links are lost. We need to manually go to each file in RH and re-hyperlink them. Although we select the “Preserve modifications to this file” before we save in RH, the links are still lost.
    In addition to losing the hyperlinks, a duplicate file gets created for each file in backend. We have to manually delete each file.
    My questions
    Are we doing something incorrect in this process? Losing links and file duplication - is this because of incorrect folder structure? Is there a way we can prevent it? We tried linking See also topics in word files itself, but since the hyperlinks have an absolute path and not relative path, we lose the links if the project is placed in another computer.
    The total count of files in the complete project is around 500. We tried having a single project rather than merged projects. But we are not sure if we can multi-author a single project. We use SVN as a source control tool and apparently RH does not support it.
       3.  Is linking the word files the best practice? My organization insists on maintaining word documents.

    According to this, Rh is compatible with SVN.

  • Preserving hyperlink properties from Word documents

    I am using Live Cycle to convert MS Word 2007 created docs that have been pdf'ed into Acrobat forms. Within these Word files are hyperlinks that have the properties of opening a new browser window when clicked. I have set this to be the default for all hyperlinks within the document. When I save the .docx file as a .pdf file, the links behave as desired. When I create fill -in fields (text and date fields) with Live Cycle and launch the resulting modified .pdf with Acrobat, the links behave as I want. HOWEVER, when I create a link to the acrobat file/form itself in a web page, and it launches into a browser window (with IE6 it doesn't invoke the Acrobat application to launch separately, but within the browser), now, the links in the .pdf/LiveCycle file DO NOT pop a new window, but just replace the open browser window.
    This is an issue with IE because if the user has halfway filled in the form, and comes to a link and clicks it, they "leave" the form window and their inputs will disappear when they click the back browser button to return to the form.
    How can I preserve the "open new window in IE" for the hyperlinks as explained above?
    Thanks, Jay

  • Hyperlink on html to a word document does not navigate to the bookmark

    i am trying to navigate to a word document bookmark from an html page
    <p><a href = "file:///D:\temp.docx#my_bookmark">my_bookmark</a></p>
    When we click on the link, we get a pop up from internet explorer asking "What do you want to do with temp.docx?"
    When, we click on "Open", the work document opens up but does not navigate to the bookmark.
    i am able to navigate to the same bookmark when i create a hyperlink inside another word document
    ie. navigation from one word document to another work document bookmark works.
    i am using windows 7  , microsoft office 2010
    Thanks for your Support

    Hi,
    After adding this link into your HTML page, did you check the URL of the link in browser? Did you see the complete URL with the
    #my_bookmark at the end?
    It should be a query about HTML code, there is not so much we can do on Office client side. For your case, I would suggest you post in the MSDN forum of
    Word for developer, where you can get more experienced responses.

  • Appending to a word document hyperlink text

    Hey, Is it possible to change the hyperlink text not the address? I would like to append to it not completely replace it. This is my example. I would like the hyperlink to display "Fig 1" instead of just the number "1". Is this
    possible somehow? thanks.

    Hi Rundownbassman92,
    This script below may be helpful for you to edit the text of hyperlink in a Word Document:
    $word = New-Object -ComObject word.application
    $document = $word.documents.open("word file path")
    $hyperlinks = @($document.Hyperlinks)
    $hyperlinks | ForEach {
    $newtext ="Fig "+ $_.TextToDisplay # add "Fig" before original text
    $_.TextToDisplay=$newtext
    $document.save()
    $word.quit()

  • Hyperlinking across Word documents into RoboHelp

    I hope this is in the right forum ...
    I author documentation in Microsoft Word and then import into RoboHelp HTML (v11 & generating in the Multiscreen HTML5 layout).
    I have multiple word documents and a lot of hyperlink in those word documents.
    Some documents have hyperlinks that reference locations in different documents.
    At the moment, when I import Word documents, the hyperlinks that reference locations in a different document break (dont work) which causes a great deal of work for me to find and fix.
    Is it possible to have a hyperlink in Document A link to a spot in Document B and have it stil work after the documents have been imported?

    In short, no there isn't Kate. When a Word file is imported, the content is built into one or more .HTM files. The link in the word file at the point it is converted may not know what file name will be created, especially if the referenced section comes after the link.

  • Weblinks in my Mail client and in Word documents stopped working

    Hello,
    I am struggling to fix this issue. Out of the blue, hyperlinks in emails, word documents, skype, etc stopped working. Clicking on them usually takes me to Firefox, my default browser, but nothing happens usually. At other times a page opens which is NOT the page that should have opened but another one, that I used in the past. I can copy and paste the links into the browser and open them without problems. Also, the touchpad works perfectly in every other sense. Clicking on things within Firefox itself works without problems .. pages open fine.
    I really have no idea what's going on as the problem started out of the blue ...
    Any ideas?

    Pages is much more for desktop publishing than word processing. I produce flyers and advertisers for my business and have found Pages much easier and more versatile than Illustrator or Word. Never have tried Pagemaker, which I understand to be one of the premier DTP applications from days past.
    Oh... I forgot to say, you can actually have multiple Inspectors for the same document too.
    When ever I am working with multiple Pages documents, being that I am using a MacBook, I make extensive use of Spaces, with different documents occupying different Spaces. Give it a try sometime. You might like it.
    Good luck and have fun discovering what Pages can & can NOT do for you.
    And come back soon.

  • SAP OLE - Create Hyperling on a Word Document

    Hi,
    My next step of creating a word document using OLE is to define some hyperlinks on a document. I have ran a macro in word to 'see what it does' when manually creating a hyperlink. Below is the macro: -
        ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=Selection.Range, Address:="", _
            SubAddress:="_Program_Z_OPEN_HRS_UPD_WRF1", ScreenTip:="", TextToDisplay _
            :="This is the program"
    I have tried to implement this using ABAP with no success. Maybe because I still dont fully understand how to interprete these marcos as ABAP.
    Has anybody created a hyperlink on a word document before, if so, seeing the code would be a great help.
    Thanks
    Martin

  • Convert Controlled Word Documents to PDF's over intranet.

    Good morning,
    I have a requirement to take a word document that contains time sensitive information which expires 24 hours after printing (electronically or otherwise).
    I am using VBScript for this and have been successful at doing the following.
    I create the word document [ set wordDoc = createobject("word.application") ]
    I set the Active Printer [wordDoc.ActivePrinter="Adobe PDF"]
    I open the word document  [wordDoc.Documents.open("path&filename.doc")         path can be local or unc
    I print the word document to ps  [wordDoc.ActiveDocument.Printout ,,,"path&filename.ps",,,0
    I close word document without saving and quit word
    I can now create the pdf [set pdfDoc = createobject("pdfdistiller.pdfdistiller")]
    I generate the pdf [pdfDoc.FileToPDF "path&file.ps",path&file.pdf,""
    I now have a pdf document with the date and time reflecting the time the word document was opened for printing (now)
    This works for Excel also with some slight modifications to code.
    This all works exactly how I want it if I am connected to the IIS Server where the intranet is hosted and Adobe X Pro is installed.  (Couple minor Internet Explorer tweaks to do ActiveX and keep security high)
    My problem is, now I try from the client machine, using the UCN paths to the server, and the shared printer "Adobe PDF" and it is not functioning.
    Any Ideas on what I may be doing wrong or what else I can try?

    I assume that you mean that you can not install Acrobat on a Server and use it from a remote machine.
    If this is what you meant do you have any ideas or suggestions?
    I know that there must be some way to do this as you can upload a document to Adobe and then get a PDF version of it.
    This is similar to what I want to do with the exception that the file does not need to be uploaded.  All word documents are in a centeral location.
    I click on a link to a page and send in a document file name.  The function does the rest, creates pdf.  The web page then opens the pdf that was generated.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hyperlink from within a Word Document to a specific page within a PDF document.

    I am not a Word guru, but I don't think you can run a macro from a hyperlink. But you can create an active X label that runs a macro when clicked. You can use the following macro to go to a specific page in a PDF file.
    Sub OpenPDFPageView(DisplayPage As Integer)
    'In order to use the macro you must enable the Acrobat library from VBA editor:
    'Go to Tools -> References -> Adobe Acrobat xx.0 Type Library, where xx depends
    'on your Acrobat Professional version (i.e. 9.0 or 10.0) you have installed to your PC.
    Dim PDFApp As AcroApp
    Dim PDFDoc As AcroAVDoc
    Dim PDFPageView As AcroAvPageView
    Dim PDFPath As String
    Dim DisplayPage As Integer
    PDFPath = "C:\Users\doudou\documents\test1.pdf"
    'Set the page you want to be displayed
    'DisplayPage = 3
    'Initialize Acrobat by creating App object
    Set PDFApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
    'Set AVDoc object
    Set PDFDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
    'Open the PDF
    If PDFDoc.Open(PDFPath, "") = True Then
    PDFDoc.BringToFront
    'Maximize the document
    Call PDFDoc.Maximize(True)
    Set PDFPageView = PDFDoc.GetAVPageView()
    'Go to the desired page
    'The first page is 0
    Call PDFPageView.GoTo(DisplayPage - 1)
    'Set the page view of the pdf
    Call PDFPageView.ZoomTo(2, 50)
    End If
    Set PDFApp = Nothing
    Set PDFDoc = Nothing
    On Error Resume Next
