[Follow-up] JavaFX ARM Preview on an Iconia Tab A700

Hi all,
I'm going on with my work after a previous discussion:
Re: JavaFX on ARM tablet
Now I have an Iconia Tab A700 with Android 4.0.4, I locally mounted on it an image of Ubuntu ARM that I access via VNC.
First of all, is the Iconia Tab A700 a correct ARM device that I can use for tests?
I've then downloaded the JavaFX preview (http://jdk7.java.net/fxarmpreview/index.html), unpacked it on the Ubuntu ARM and tried to run a JavaFX application.
I receive this kind of exception:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/jdk1.7.0_10/jre/lib/arm/libglass.so: /opt/jdk1.7.0_10/jre/lib/arm/libglass.so: undefined symbol: ZTVN10_cxxabiv120__si_class_type_infoE

How can I solve this?
Thanks.

First of all, is the Iconia Tab A700 a correct ARM device that I can use for tests?I don't think so.
I think you should use the hardware (and follow the instructions) documented in the JavaFX ARM developer preview installation instructions:
http://jdk7.java.net/fxarmpreview/javafx-arm-developer-preview.html
For example use a BeagleBoardXM:
http://beagleboard.org/hardware-xM
Connected to a compatible display:
http://www.chalk-elec.com/?page_id=1280#!/~/product/category=3094846&id=13727568
Really, JavaFX on ARM is a prototyping platform targeted at an extremely limited set of hardware at the moment, not a production platform.
It is in public preview now so that you can test it out and provide feedback via bugs and feature requests at http://javafx-jira.kenai.com.

  • [SOLVED] Help needed with ACPI accelerometer - Acer Iconia Tab W501

    Hi,
I am trying to get the accelerometer working on my Acer Iconia Tab W501
In windows, it reported as a BMA150 device, so I have that driver loading on boot.
After months of googling and making a mess in /sys, I still have not got the device working. I was working under the assumption that the device hangs off the i2c bus, but a "lucky google" today uncovered that it is showing up through acpi - acpid is present in my daemons array of rc.conf and the kernel module acer_wmi is also loaded.
The device is certainly sending signals to the kernel. Upon boot, dmesg ends up as follows:
    [ 11.689709] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready
    [ 12.108374] EXT4-fs (sda2): re-mounted. Opts: commit=0

    [ 22.459133] wlan0: no IPv6 routers present
Now, if I rotate the device, and run dmesg again, I have the following:
    [ 1255.189705] acer_wmi: Unknown function number - 5 - 1
    [ 1257.363688] acer_wmi: Unknown function number - 5 - 1

acpi -V does not show the device:

Yet, running acpi_listen generates the following when the tablet is rotated:
    PNP0C14:00 000000bc 00000000
    PNP0C14:00 000000bc 00000000
    PNP0C14:00 000000bc 00000000
    PNP0C14:00 000000bc 00000000
So, it would seem the device is working and sending data to the kernel/drivers, it appears some config is needed to get it properly recognised and an entry in /dev generated.
Really hoping there is an acpi expert around who may be able to help me get the device properly recognised and configures, ideally, as a /dev/input/js*
    Cheers.

There is no need to patch the kernel anymore as current kernels have the acer wmi accelerometer patch merged.
Ensure you have the kernel module acer_wmi loading and then the events should be propogated. acpi_listen should show the events.
Using the code from here: http://www.jezra.net/blog/Python_Joysti … ng_Gobject i have written a little daemon that monitors the accelerometer and automatically rotates the screen based on it's position.
    Cheers.
[EDIT] Being a laptop, I am guessing the accelerometer is possibly on the hard drive?? used for shock protection?? So if that is the case, I am not sure you will be able to utilise it in the same way as a tablet's accelerometer. There are articles on the web for setting up hard drive accelerometers in linux. The other consideration you need is that the accelerometer may not be on acpi. It could be on the i2c bus (commonly where sensors such as fan speed, core temps etc are located), in which case you will need the i2c driver to get the accelerometer events recognised in the kernel (ensure i2c kernel modules are loaded). So check exactly how the kernel detects the accelerometer, is it on acpi or the i2c bus?[/EDIT]

  • Facebook Messenger VIdeo call in acer iconia tab 840-FHD

Hi everyone!Just wanted to ask, has anyone tried video call using facebook messenger app in Iconia Tab 840-FHD?Thanks!

I have not been able to use my micro SD card that I bought for my Acer iconia tab 8 from  day 1 as it is not functional due to whatever changes that were made prior to boxing and shipping out to the public. On the box and in advertising it is listed as a feature which constitutes fraud in my opinion. And if there is some round about way of using it that is not good enough. You should be able to utilize the card slot/function just as you would if it were a camera or a laptop computer. Even though I have not been able to use it I have left it in my tablet and when I turned my tablet on I got a notification that it was damaged and to try to reformat it. It's funny that I can't use it but the tablet somehow damaged it! Double whammy! So what is Acer going to do to fix this situation for all of us who have purchased tablets with useless card slots? No excuses or be either. Consumers, like myself, are tired of being lied to and taken advantage of. Yes laptops and tablets are more affordable then ever but that does not mean quality and customer service should be null and void because we are getting such a good deal.

  • Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-840 FHDSD card mount problem

I bought the Iconia tab 8 (A1-840 FHD) and was disappointed. Due to incorrectly configured firmware - SD card when the device is connected properly mounted within the system (such as an external USB drive), there is no way to transfer files to it (the card is locked for writing applications) can not be set as a cache for Google Music, no connection mode as USB drive when connected to a computer. In fact, it is not working appendage and is not intended for storing information. When can I expect to fix this problem? Why was it decided to change the default for all other tablets on the market functionality?

  • How to unbrick Iconia tab A500

On power up I get just the Acer logo. There is a post from 2013 that describes how to unbrick but the instructions don't work. It suggests going to the site that lets you download Acer drivers and manuals, viz http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers#_ga=1.181574820.267539145.1417479834.  This should give a zip file that contains 'update.zip' but it doesn't; it contains a file with a name that ends 'Driver Setup.exe' and I don't think that is what I want. The site address has 'US' in it so I looked for the corresponding UK source for drivers and manuals which is http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers and I then typed in my SNID and selected the OS Android 3.2 Honeycomb (ice cream is 'not available' and  I can always upgrade later). The zip file that results contains the two files H_A31H_A32H_A500_A501/1.inf    and
USB_Acer_1.00.0524_A30H_A31H_A32H_A500_A501/ICONIA TAB USB Driver Setup.exeand again this doesn't look right (the 1.inf file is all about Windows). I have not tried running this because it is not 'update.zip' and I'm afraid it will install Windows instead. . I need the file update.zip. Can someone please tell me where to find it? Or any other way of unbricking an Iconia A500.

Hello Ironfly. Thank you for your comment. I have tried a factory reset, if you mean that game with the volume button. If I hold down Volume-  and press power on I get the Acer logo for ever and if I hold down Volume+ I get the dead Android. You say that to get the file update.zip I should click on the OS tab  but where is this? Do you mean in the Drivers and Manuals page? I did that and selected Honeycomb 3.2 which was the OS installed on the tablet when new. I should be delighted to hear any other ideas about how to get a file update.zip and not some Windows substitute.

  • Iconia Tab 8 W W1-810 suddenly stopped the auto screen rotation

Hi. I´m havving trouble with my Iconia Tab 8 W W1-810. It suddenly stopped the auto screen rotation and now I can´t find the "enable screen rotation" checkbox. I only get the chance to put it in landscape or portrait but not in auto rotation. How can I enable auto screen rotation again? I will very much appreciate your help.

Thank you, Justin! I tried that but, as I no longer had an automatic rotation checkbox, I couldn´t solve the problem. The solution came through the Acer Chat service. Acer technician Mukesh was very kind and patient, we tried every possible option but the auto rotation option was not available, the only way to get it back was to install the suggested drivers: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Platform%20Drivers/Platform%20Drivers_Intel_10.18.10.3643_W81x86_A.zip?acerid=635664922342452308&Step1=TABLET&Step2=ICONIATAB8W&Step3=W1-810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 After installing these drivers, I recovered the automatic rotation checkbox and could solve the problem. I am very happy that I could solve the problem and very pleased with Acer´s customer service. Thank you for your suggestion. Kind regards, María Inés.

  • Cannot transfer from ADE to Acer Iconia Tab a500

I have used my Adobe ID and password and installed ADE on my pc (XP), but ADE does not recognize my Acer Iconia Tab a500, which is listed as a supported device.  I have registered the Iconia tab and also authorized it with the same Adobe ID and password.  The installation instructions tell me that my e-reader device will appear as a new bookshelf in the library when the device is connected to my pc, but it does not, so I am unable to transfer from my pc to the e-reader. Any ideas?

I just got an Acer Iconia A500 for Christmas and was going through the same problems as "cantreadit".  Since I'm not the most technically advanced person in the world (I'm an old fart in his 60's), I was panicking about not being able to use this part of my tablets capabilities, and started looking for a cure on the internet (Acer was almost no help).  I couldn't get past the sign-on to Adobe ADE, and always got an error message.  I saw a comment about a "time-expired" error being caused by the tablet and the computer mot having the same time shown, but my tablet was the exact time as my computer.  When I went a little deeper, I found that my tablet didn't have the "TIME ZONE" marked correctly (mine was set off of GMT, the default).  When I tethered my tablet and computer together and had both open to the time I reset my tablets time (the tablet doesn't set to the second, so I waited until the computers second hand got to the exact minute and clicked on the tablets clock - I don't know if you need to get that exact, but....).  When I went to my tablet and signed in, this time my authorization was accepted.
Note: Adobe ADE still doesn't show my tablet as connected, and I can't download from Adobe directly, but (being an "old fart") I always save my books first to a folder on my computer before opening them to ADE.  When I went to my tethered tablet and copied the folder with (the DRM protected) e-books on my SD card, then went to LumiRead, then settings, then to "manage my book folders" and added that folder to the folders that LumiRead looks at, ALL the books were there and readable.  Saving the books to a folder first (which my Techno-Geek" son and son-in-law said was un-necessary) seems to have worked out good for me.
My last concern is that I don't know if Overdrive will also "see" the ADE authorization and let me download books from my local library on line (which I use a lot for my dedicated e-reader), but I'm going to check that out later today (here's hoping that works too).
This may not be the same problem that the rest of you have been facing (my problem may have been too simple for the rest of you guys to miss), and it may not be the complete cure (I still have the Library & Overdrive to checkout).  Also, the rest of you may have trusted the system to work properly, and not "stupidly" saved the books you bought to a folder on your computer (like a skeptical "old fart" like me would do), but for the other "Old Farts" out there, this may be the cure your looking for (no matter how simple it may be).

  • Iconia Tab 8 W Touch not working after update to Windows 10

So, I have an Iconia Tab 8 W which came with Windows 8.1. I updated to Windows 10 but there seems to be some issue with the default graphic card driver since the touch doesn't work (works during the installation process so it's not a hardware problem). I managed to plug it into a powered USB hub and get a classic mouse-keyboard setup working but the touch is still dead. I found drivers on the ACER website but not only do they not have any sort of "setup" or "install" file, the Graphic Card doesn't show at all on the device manager. So, the "update driver" option is not an option.  I've tried reverting to Windows 8.1 but the place where this option should be doesn't show it. I can only clean up the PC or boot into safe mode. Tried both, none works. As a last resort, I downloaded the Windows 8.1 media creation tool and booted into it to reinstall Windows 8.1 but now it asks me for the Windows key which is no where to be found.  Anybody got any ideas?

IIRC the touch driver and te graphics driver are two quite different things. The touchscreen digitizer looks to the system like a USB device, so a problem would show up in Device Manager either as a USB problem or a HID problem. Try W10 again but this time look into the different secions of DM for the issue.

  • Preview Thumbnails on New Tab page empty only for certain URLs

When I open a new tab, there are three certain preview thumbnails which are always empty, and there is no way I can make them show up again. They did work in the beginning, but at some time the three previews vanished and never came back.
I have already tried to empy the cache and reload the sites as suggested here, but the thumbs are still empty. It's always the same three URLs where this happens. I have also cleared the history, opened the sites again and dragged the items from the history menu into a thumbnail - same result.

The pages may be send by the server with a no-cache or no-store header preventing Firefox to store that pages in the cache.<br />
Firefox will only generate thumbnails if the page is in the cache.
The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't or won't (secure pages) be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.
*Do not use Clear Recent History to clear data like the cache and the history when you close Firefox
If there is no history then you get an about:newtab page with empty boxes (no URLs).

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20FHD-K8KK

The tablet is frozen on the Language selection screen and won't go any further.  The screen is unresponsive.  I've done the reboot to wipe and reinstall to factory settings as well as "reboot system now" by holding the power and volume buttons.  None of it works, it simply returns to the language selection screen with an unresponsive screen.  The tablet is only 3 months old.

Acer wants me to send into their service center in Temple Texas for service.  I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this issue with an Acer Android Iconia Model similar to this.  Looking forward to comments or information relative to this issue.
