Footnote Style Not Cooperating

Good day, folks. After reading my background and question, please consult my screenshot (the type's small, but you can see where I've tried to indicate what's going on.
I'm working on a dissertation with lots of footnotes. I'm using a modification of Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. which calls for indenting the first line of footnotes (I'm using quarter-inch indentation rather that half-inch). Even though I've updated my style drawer, every time I insert a new footnote, Pages puts the 11pt foonote reference number flush against the left margin and designates the content of the note as Free Form style. This isn't what I want it to be doing.
Is there a way, WITHOUT digging into Pages' code to train the document to, when I insert a footnote, insert that new foonote with my style specifications?
(If there isn't a way to do this without fiddling with code, I know the workaround -- select all the footnotes and then tweak the style specifications.)

Hi
You must have :
c:\jakarta-tomcat-3.2.3\webapps\exper\WEB-INF\classes in your classpath. This directory is set in to the CLASSPATH variable only at runtime by the Server so that the classes in it are available. However at compile time if your source files are also in the same directory then you have to set this up.
You can verify this in one way, Just remove the package declaration in both and compile, they should then compile.
Keep me posted on your progress.
Good Luck!

  • Text Link Styles not working in Footer Section

    I have a master page with a footer that has three columns of navigation text links inside.
    In order to match my design I have created a customer text link style for these links.
    However when I preview my site (in muse and browsers) the roll over effect (should show an underline) doesn't work.
    I've searched the forums and found that someone else had a similar problem and it was down to them having a paragraph and character style stacked on top of one another. However I have checked this on my links and this is not the case.
    NOTE: I have already successfully managed to create a similar style that resides in a side bar navigation panel in some of the sites internal pages and these link styles are working fine.
    So, I'm not sure if the file has become corrupt or if I'm missing something that I've done wrong?
    One question I have is at which point to you apply the text link style?
    1. By clicking on the line of text to select it?
        OR
    2. By clicking further into the text box; as if you were editing it, then selecting all of the characters in the word you want to make a link. With the word selected, click on the style name in the Character Panel to apply it?
        OR
    3. as with the above example, once you have selected all of the characters in the word you want to make a link. Click on the Hyperlink drop down arrow (from the main toolbar) and choose the style name you wish to apply, from the drop down box 'Text Link Style'
    NOTE:
    I'm running version v2.3, Build 50, CL 771675
    AIR Runtime: 3.5.0.600
    UPDATE:
    I couldn't wait any longer, so I just deleted the text boxes and styles and re-created them both and they seem to work now. Lot of additional work though that I'd rather have not had to do.

    Sorry, I forgot to say, to see how the email link at the
    bottom of the page should look please see www.bethhockley.com

  • New character style not showing up in TOC style

    I created a new character style called Subchapter....
    Then I went to layout>toc styles.. and hit [new]. Under "Style" my new character style "Subchapter" is not there. Also, under the "Styles in Table of Contents....include paragraph styles.." my new character style "Subchapter" is not in the other styles list.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks.
    Also, forgot to mention, I am in book mode at this point. Maybe I need to add that new character style to each .IDD chapter of the book?

    NEvermind, it was because I was making a character style, not a paragraph style. Now it shows up.
    Thanks anyways.

  • List style not visible in printed documentation

    Robohelp 8.0.2
    Is this a bug???  I opted to use a numbered list style rather than a numbered paragraph style to label procedural steps.  The advantage of a list style is that skip numbering would not work properly using the paragraph style. i.e.:
    'Steps' Paragraph style with numbering associated:
    First step.
              Result of first step.
    Second step.            * Bullets and Numbering does not allow me to consistently "Restart numbering at 2" (and HTML this produces is faulty).
    'NumberedStep' List style with numbering:
       1.  First step.
               Result of first step.
       2.  Second step.               * Bullets and Numbering allow me to consistently "Restart numbering at 2."
    Now I see the consequences of my decision:  My 'NumberedStep' style is not included in the styles dropdown.  Inconvenient, but not itself the end of the world.
    The real problem is this:  Printed Documents are not consistent with the style defined in 'NumberedStep'.
    The font is larger than it should be, and indents are all over the place:
    This is the selection I made on Generate Printed Document:
    On first review, all the styles in my source translated easily to Word, but the style for NumberedStep text was not.  That text is now 'Normal'.
    I've hunted high and low to solve this issue, so a direct reply is appreciated.

    Firstly, your better off using liststyles than paragraph list styles, I screwed around a long time before I had to set everything to liststyles rather than paragraph ones. So dont worry about that.
    The first issue, of not seeing the style - it is there, if you open the Styles tab on screen (click in a topic to get the cursor, then Format > Styles), not just the dropdown like youve shown youll see a list of all your styles, almost, it will show paragraph styles, click the drop-down and select All available styles, this will display your list styles as well!
    Im not sure about the style settings, I have the same text setting applied in my list style as I use for my 'normal' text. Though I think you can select the text in a list and apply a paragraph style to it....i just tried and it worked, but to be on the safe side you might want to set the text formatting in the list style css too..
    mine looks like this
    li.NumberList {
        font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 10pt;
        color: #524C45;
        list-style: decimal;
        margin-bottom: 6pt;
        margin-top: 6pt;
    As for printed formats not indenting lists, this is an issue. So far I have found no way around it because you cannot map a  list styles in RH to a list style in Word. This has also created errors for line spacing and indents - and  I found the indents are severly messed up when using list styles in snippets. Everytime I create printed documentation I have to manually fix it, a pain but it doesnt take too long....you could use macros etc to speed it all up for you.
    Submit a Wish Form.
    Hope it helps.

  • Word styles not appearing in Print Document Appearance dialog

    My custom list styles in Style Mapping.dot are not appearing in the Print Document Appearance dialog when I try to map CSS styles to Word styles.
    The styles do appear in the template when I open it in Word. They appear in the styles task pane whether I select "In current document" or "In use" in the Style Pane Options dialog in Word. The styles have the same name (such as "Bullet" or "Number") in Word as the CSS styles in RoboHelp.
    I tried saving Style Mapping.dot as .dotx, thinking that RoboHelp 8 might work better with the current template type, but no help. I tried adding the template to the same folder as the Normal.dotm template is in and opening it there. No improvement.
    Oddly, the built-in Word styles List, List 2, & etc and List Continue and its series appear in the Robo dialog, but the styles List Bullet and others in that series do not appear.
    I suppose I could modify the list styles that do appear in Robo and map them to my CSS list styles, but that feels a bit like a desperate kluge.
    Does anyone know what might be wrong, either with my Word template or with Robo, that might be causing what seem to be perfectly good Word styles to not present themselves for mapping?
    Thanks again,
    John

    Peter,
    I think your discussion of this problem could explain the situation and propose a workaround more simply than it does.
    Based on your article, I assumed that Robo displays only the built in Word list styles such as List and List Continue (since those were the only styles showing up in the style mapping dialog and since your example shows matching a Robo style named List Mapping to a Word built in style named List). I assumed I would have to match my Bullet style to a style named List in Word, and match the indented bullet style to List 2, and so on. The actual situation is that Robo, for some godforsaken reason that only idiots would understand, will not show a Word style if any numbering (bullets or numbers) is applied to it. That is, one does not have to avoid a class of styles called “List styles”, one only has to avoid applying numbering to the styles until later.
    Thus the workaround is to create the word styles (with names that match the Robo styles!) that contain every attribute you need EXCEPT the numbering. That is, I can link Bullet to Bullet and Number to Number and Indented Number to Indented Number, and so on and on, as long as I have all the Word styles in the template with their numbering set to None.
    Then after I generate the document, I can modify the styles to add the appropriate numbering, and voila!
    Currently scrolling the doc & modifying styles. Might be a glimpse of daylight.

  • CS3: Applying Object styles not always consistent

    Hello,
    I have a number of Object Styles, each of which have different Paragraph Styles called out. In turn, each of these Paragraph Styles calls out different fonts, font styles and sizes.
    Most of the time I can click on a text frame and all the parameters in the Object style are applied--just as it is supposed to be.
    But sometimes the font that the text is supposed to change to does not get applied. This seems to be inconsistent but there is probably an underlying order to it that I do not see.
    So why would an Object style not apply the Paragraph style that is called for in the Object style options?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    I now see the problem, though I do not know the solution.
    If I open up a new document and create a text frame, the font is that old ugly but familiar Times-Roman 12 point.
    But if I open up the template where I have many object, paragraph and character styles, one of each of these is already selected. I can either see this by opening the respective panels or above in the control panel. In fact, any text frame I create always has a top text inset.
    So my Preferences in general are OK and I'd rather not dump them. The problem is that styles are already selected upon opening this one ID file. How do I turn that off?
    In  answer to a question above, I do not simply redo the old Quark file, now in ID. I have a series of styles that are just much easier to apply in a separate ID file, rather than reinventing them in the Quark-to-ID file.
    Thanks for your questions and ideas. They helped me probe this deeper. Now I just need a solution to what I think is a simple problem (still eludes me tho!)

  • Make paragraph style not override character style?

    Hi.
    Is there any way to make a paragraph style NOT override a character style?
    For example, I write a lot of scientific reports in Pages and then I use subscript and superscript often and so I have made a character style for that. But if I want to perhaps change the spacing between paragraphs in my body style. I select a paragraph, change the settings that I want and then I right click on the paragraph style and choose "redefine style from selection". Then I select all of that style and choose "revert to defined style" to get the updated paragraph spacing. But what this does is that it overrides all of the character styles so that everything in sub/superscript, bold, italic etc get back to the style. This is really bugging me out.
    For the character styles you can select what attributes you want them to affect, is there any way to do this with paragraph styles as well? Or maybe some of you have got a good way to make it work.
    Thanks in advance.

    When you redefine the paragraph style, all paragraphs using that style will display the new style properties, unless you've overriden them. Presumably this is why you choose "revert to defined style", so that other paragraphs that you've stylistically modified take on the proper paragraph style properties. If not, why revert at all?
    Instead of using revert, why not re-apply the paragraph style (just click on the selected style in the drawer, or pick the selected item from the pop-up menu). It will discard your unwanted paragraph style overrides, and preserve the character styles.

    I have been trying to move a 1 hour movie from my Mac to my iPad without success. I know I have clicked all the right boxes but iTunes is not cooperating.??

    Possibly.
    You could test that by dropping a largish image into a test Pages document and duplicating it until your document won't send.
    Some eMail clients have ceiling levels for file sizes, as do some receiving servers.
    Also test to see if you can simply export your file to pdf, in which case it will be retained on your iPad. That would be a first step.

  • Created a footnote style with language set to english but upon spell check language goes to German

    my spell check switches to german when I spell check the footnotes. The footnotes have a paragraph style that is set to English USA (under the advanced characters tab)
    Any ideas?

    Well I had another thought this morning, and you CAN use find change.
    The following GREP expression will find all characters: .+
    Set that in the find what field and leave the change to field blank. In the find format otions choose your footnote style under style options, then switch to advanced character options and set German as the language (you are looking for characters assigned the German languag in your footnotes). In the change options go to the advanced character options and change the language to English, then set the scope of the search and change all (preuming there really are no words that should be in German that you don't want to pick up as misspelled).
    The only thing this won't pick up, as far as I can tell, is the end of paragraph marker if that happens also to be set to German. You can search for that explicitly by changing the find expression to \r and rerunning the find/change.

  • Different Footnote Styles within one document

    I work in InDesign 5.5. Currently I'm working on a project that requires different footnote styles within one document (1, 2, 3, . . . and a, b, c, . . .). How can I set them up as different styles? If I make a change in the Document Footnote Style section, all the footnotes are changing, but I need them different for different sections. How do I do that? Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

    I'm working on a book interior. The book interior has two sections, a intro section and a regular text section. For the intro section footnotes should be styled as a., b., c., etc. and for regular text the footnotes should be styled as 1., 2., 3., etc. It seems though that I can only select one style in the Document Footnote Style section, but I need two different styles.

  • Styles not applied [was: Help for DW Dunce]

    Just a little advice on css pls, i have a created a new css style and  named it "list", the colour of the font is set to #807e7e.  When i  upload the saved page to my server, the list is there but the text is  black, ive tried creating a new class, id and tag and applying the  settings, but nothing seems to change the text colour and the font style even though its  set in the rule definitions?
    Im sure its very simple but Im stumped ?
    The page is here
    http://www.craftypixel.co.uk/takeaway.html
    its the bullet list on the right
    Please keep answers simple

    I see this is your first post. Welcome to the forum. When posting questions, please use a meaningful subject line as it helps others identify problems where they might be able to help. It also helps others who might be suffering a similar problem identify threads that have been marked as answered.
    Now, to your particular problem. I have looked at the page you linked to, and the reason for the style not being applied is very simple. There is no style rule called .list in your style sheet. Moreover, you don't have a class applied to the list.
    I also noticed that your naming conventions are rather odd. The main content on the left has been given a class called right, and the sidebar on the right is in a class called left. I presume you must have changed your mind about the relative positions, which is why they're now reversed. But it's always a good idea to avoid class names that describe position or colour. It's better to use something like main and sidebar. Then it doesn't matter which side of the page you put them on. With your current naming, it's going to be a nightmare to maintain.

  • CSS Styles not displayed properly in design view - SOLVED (not 'Display Styles')

    For several weeks, I've been troubleshooting the issue of CSS
    and inline styles not being displayed properly when in Dreamweaver
    CS3 design view, and checking in to the forums occassionally to see
    if there was a solution other than making sure "Display Styles" was
    selected under View -> Style Rendering (it was, and still
    nothing would display properly!).
    After much frustration, I may have found the solution to
    those still experiencing the issue even after "Display Styles" is
    appropriately checked. I went in to my master template for the
    site, and found an erroneous <br> tag after the <link
    href> for the stylesheet, which I must have inadvertantly
    inserted when I added the code for the site's favicon. (You get so
    used to Shift-Enter in layout mode, it's almost automatic,
    regardless of what pane your in.) I can't believe I missed this
    before! Deleting the erroneous tag cleaned up the whole
    site.

    I had the same thing happen to me. After hours of trouble
    shooting I found a bit of inappropriate code left in the HTML.
    Cleaned that up and all is good. Seems like it is often something
    so simple. Guess that is why it is so maddening when i can't figure
    it out!

  • Images and styles not showing in Design view on CS3

    Hi all,
    I am playing around with a CSS website template that I downloaded and
    opened in DW-CS3. I am just using this to learn and play around with. It
    came with the style sheet, jpg images etc.
    I just noticed that when in Design view for the index page, that the images
    and styles, menus are not displaying, only the html text is visible in Design view.
    When I preview the site with a browser like IE or FF, it displays fine along with
    any changes I have made.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Why is my CSS style not applied to my HTMLB page ?

    Hello !
    I'm using a css file to define the layout of my htmlb page... but the layout is not applied.
    When I specify the layout CSS in a common html page the layout is applied but not for an htmlb page.
    Could someone let me know where I'm wrong ?
    EG :
    My htmlb page :
    <%@page language="abap" %>
    <%@extension name="htmlb" prefix="htmlb" %>
    <htmlb:content>
      <htmlb:page title=" " >
          <html>
                <head>
                <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
                </head>
                <body>
                text1
        <htmlb:form>
            text2
        </htmlb:form>
                </body>
          </html>
      </htmlb:page>
    </htmlb:content>
    My css file style.css :
    <%@page language="abap"%>
    body {
        background-color: #990000;
        font-family: Verdana;
        font-size: 32x;
        line-height: 32px;
        color: #666666;
    As a result, I have a blank page (and not red) with the text "text1" and "text2" written.

    This code you have is unfortunately completely bogus. It is just not going to work. Writing HTMLB tags are easy. It takes but minutes to make the magic appear in the browser. But, you have also have to understand a little about what is happening.
    At a very first, I would like to recommend this link: <a href="/people/brian.mckellar/blog/2004/06/11/bsp-trouble-shooting-getting-help">Getting Help</a>. You are specifically interested in the section that shows you how to get help about specific tags.
    As a next step, look at the help for the <htmlb:page> tag. It is the first important one. See how it is a collection of other <htmlb:document*> tags.
    Thereafter, look at SBSPEXT_HTMLB/document.BSP for an example on how to replace the <htmlb:page> sequence in your application.
    Once this is done, place you "<link ...>" sequence directly after the <htmlb:headInclude> tag that you have now on your page.
    Compile, test, assign 10 points.
