For a Compaq IJ300 printer I need a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver.

Hello. I think I may have adapted my Compaq IJ300 printer for potential use with my new, presently 64-bit, Windows-8.1-operating-system-loaded notebook computer, which has four Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, but no parallel ports, by purchasing a parallel-to-USB cable to connect between that printer and my new notebook computer.
My short question: How may I obtain just a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer? (not a computer program to scan for needed driver updates, a procedure which has unfortunately failed to lead me to the driver I want in so far at least two instances)

Thanks, Ban Hien, for kindly taking some time to post some information here. I verified that via http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&products=217385 no drivers for the Compaq IJ300 printer newer than for Windows 98 were supplied there. Nevertheless I used that printer in Windows XP Home Edition in an older notebook computer in probably the year 2013 before I no longer could “power up” that computer! Looking at my notes from July 19, 2010, after connecting that printer to my old notebook computer Windows XP reported “Found New Hardware Lexmark Inkjet 4100,” probably for finding the Lexmark 12A1980 color cartridge in the Compaq IJ300 printer at that time, and “Found New Hardware Compaq Inkjet IJ300” for I suppose locating a driver from within Windows XP Home Edition for the Compaq IJ300 printer.
The Web page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293360 indeed shows that the Compaq IJ300 printer is supported by Windows XP. I read that it is on a Windows XP operating system Compact Disc or else can be obtained from http://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=133838&si=bb941f1db37cb35ad6ad9b8e7da36bd8. The resource http://www.driverguide.com/ appears to be a place on the Internet through which one may be able to obtain individual drivers for pieces of hardware. Within that Web site I read that one user found that a Lexmark Z11 driver could used with a Compaq IJ300 printer in probably Windows 2000 with Windows 2000 identifying that Compaq IJ300 printer as a Lexmark Z11 printer. Unfortunately I could not find a 64-bit, Windows-8.1-compatible driver for either the Compaq IJ300 or Lexmark Z11 printers within http://www.driverguide.com/ or http://www.lexmark.com/; the newest Lexmark Z11 probably driver available via the latter Web site was for only Windows 2000 and 32-bit Windows XP. The Web page http://www.hardwaredata.org/index.php?driver=109025 reports a Windows-8 driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer. But using that Web site's computer program DriverDetective.exe to scan my present notebook computer's hardware with the Compaq IJ300 printer connected to the parallel-to-USB cable, which in turn was connected to a USB port of my computer, the Compaq IJ300 printer was not “noticed” by that hardware-scanning program. A pure speculation of mine, not something I know to be a fact, is that because 64-bit, Windows 8.1 did not “notice” the Compaq IJ300 printer, that particular hardware-scanning program might have followed Windows 8.1's lead and also did not “notice” the connected, Compaq IJ300 printer. So if the information at http://www.hardwaredata.org/index.php?driver=109025 is correct, there might actually be a Windows-8 driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer that that scanning program never recommended because it did not “see” the Compaq IJ300 printer.
It seems logical that if one has the source code for a driver in use by one Windows operating system, knows the intimate details of that and a newer version of Windows, and knows how to write computer code in the computer language of the driver, then he might be able to take the source code for the driver that works in Windows XP and modify it to work for 64-bit, Windows 8.1. Then after that I suppose he might have to compile and link that source code to make the driver usable by a Windows-8.1 operating system. In a Linux operating system I have been told that the driver source code for a device can be compiled with I think the kernel source code to make a new version of the Linux kernel which includes the function of that new driver. On this adventurous subject I have here at least sometimes been writing well beyond my experience and/or knowledge. But at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff554644(v=vs.85).aspx there are instructions on how to use the Windows Driver Kit to “build” (probably to compile and link) a new driver using I think a starting version of a driver. More speculation on my part is that because Hewlett Packard has not been supplying a Windows XP driver for the Compaq IJ300 printer, perhaps someone may have used something like the Windows Driver Kit in the making of a driver usable for this printer in Windows XP.

  • Need a Tiger compatible driver for my Compaq A3000 printer!

I have the installation disk for my A3000 printer but the drivers are only compatible with Windows. Do anyone know where I can download a Tiger compatible driver? Thanks!

You might be able to print without installing a driver something like GimpPrint may all ready be on your machine. I beleve on the Intel machines there is an button in the Print Setup Utlity that says something like Other Drivers. I don't have an Intel machine so I cain't check. If your machine sees the printer there is a good chance you can print. If not try a third party driver. Look in:

  • Tip for installing App Dev CD into WLS on 64-bit windows

    Hi All,
After pulling out some hair, I thought I'd share this tip.
    Scenario:
You are installing WebLogic 10.3.x on a 64-bit Windows platform, but are using a 32-bit JDK. You want to install the Application Development CD so that you can extend your WLS domains with the JRF, EM, etc.
    Symptoms:
You run setup.exe, the installer prompts you for a location of a JRE/JDK and you give it the 32-bit JDK location. The installer then quits without so much as a peep.
    Solution:
Instead of running setup.exe, navigate to install\win32 and run that setup.exe instead. The same thing works for installing the SOA suite.
Hope this saves someone else some time too.
    John

Thanks for the help - I edited the C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\test_domain2\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd file as follows:
@REM set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4 (I commented out this line)
set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (I added this line)
set SUN_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (this line was already here)
    After confirming ENV's:
    Path=C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\bin;C:\app\bschamac\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\
    JAVA_HOME=C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_24
I then restarted WLS, but the C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\commEnv.sh still says:
    JAVA_HOME="C:/Oracle/Middleware/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"
SO I think I am still hosed.

  • What's a good LCD display for graphics arts and print production needs?

    Hi all,
It's true that the good ol CRT displays in the past were the best. They have the Trinitron tube and had clearity. I'm looking to purchase an LCD monitor that'll come close to a Sony CRT monitor and can handle my graphics art projects. Any thoughts and direction is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Web dude

CRTs are dead. Please just let them die...
Funny you should say that. I just bought a brand new Philips 22" CRT (for AU$260). I decided to take that path for another few years after looking at the Cinema displays (23" and 30") and noticing severe discolouration at shallow viewing angles (like when you sit closely in front of the monitor to compare three photos side-by-side). Interestingly, the 24" iMac screen doesn't have this problem.
I can't afford or justify the exquisite Eizo LCD screens, so I got the CRT (the best Philips ever made) and couldn't be happier. I've got plenty of space on my corner desk, btw.
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • Needed! 64-bit Windows drivers

    I have a Palm Centro.
Most new cpu's have 64-bit processors.
Win7 to be released for retail this month
Users with new hardware want to migrate to 64-bit OS
    Please release 64-bit drivers.
Don't shoot yourselves in the foot!
Release 64-bit drivers; or risk 'positioning' yourselves right out of the market.
I've owned/followed Palm ever since the first m100.  Now that it is (sadly) no longer the little handheld that 'does it all' on less hardware, what do you have to offer?  What is your differentiation?  What ("Customer") need/problem do you solve?  What are you trying to do better than your competition does? How can you hope to capitalize on brand recognition and loyalty when you've erected a bamboo curtain between yourselves and your customers?  For many years, everyone predicted Apple was dead.  In my opinion, part of what saved them was the construction of a culture of 'inclusion' and 'community'.
Think about it, sure, most electronic devices are just sku's and to a great degree no one cares who made them. If that's the case, what are you doing to motivate people to choose your product over some other, better supported product?
If I, a long time Palm supporter, feel abandoned and dissapointed with Palm and what it is becomming... then what is to attract 'new' customers?
    One man's opinion,
    R.W., Beverly Hills, CA
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    Hello Wyrenut,
I hear what you're saying.  Aside from the topic of moving on to new OS's and hardware capabilities, I still believe there's a point to be made about the boys in the back room isolating themselves from their customers.  Ok, Palm and Synergy are seperate enteties. My comments are directed not at Palm(singular) but at Palm(plural) because there's no other outlet I'm aware of to address this.  Its Synergy who I percieve exists behind the aforementioned 'bamboo curtain'.  They may as well be dieties from another dimension in regards to being able to communicate our needs to them. (Interesting metaphore there.  Does that make you one of the temple priests?)
I do not so much wish for a return to the good old days of PalmOS (he lies) as I wish for a company that is responsive to the needs of their customers.Customers are not a necessary evil which must be endured.  A faceless, deaf organization is not something us Linux users are going to warm up to. Linux people are all about product improvement through community involvement.
Are there 64-bit drivers for the Pre?  I had great hopes for the Pre.  I'm a big fan/supporter/user of Linux. But I've looked at it and couldn't see any reason to toss my Centro.  One of the things I'd like to do most is to use my handheld as an ebook reader.  The second is for watching videos. If they made a WebOS handheld with the screen size of the TX, that I could get excited about.  Add an OLED screen and I'd need smelling salts.  I don't do messaging so I hate little keyboards.  I'd rather use a stylus on a on-screen keyboard.  Perhaps I'm not mainstream.  It sounds like what I need is an iPhone.  Large screen, no keyboard.  Crap, I so wanted to stay in the Palm and Linux family.  Sniff, sniff.
Death of Apple? Oh yeah, all through the 80's and 90's all you heard was how unfortunate it was that Apple wasn't going to make it.  They complained the management was inept, and there was no hope of surviving against Microsofts dominance.  I did find one resource that has some historical data on that.  Here's a link: http://www.macobserver.com/appledeathknell/index.shtml
Saved by the iPhone?  Don't forget the iPod.  It was the iPod that opened America's doors to Apple and paved the way for the iPhone to have been created.
P.S.  On further reflection, given what my desires are, I'm bound to be out of the mainstream.  Palm et. al. are in a tough spot.  Should they try to break new ground?. Stick with making handhelds or perhaps sub-mini wi-fi enabled media players with voip? Chase the iPhone/Blackberry me-too  market?    It would appear (as you've pointed out) the largest audience is in the prolfeed arena - messaging, web-content and social-networking (cb radio for the 21st century).  They gotta do what they gotta do.
Still, I'll keep my eyes open.  Given enough monkeys and enough typewriters, someone, somewhere is bound to accidentally manufacture a device whose design parameters overlaps with my needs.  One can hope, anyway.
    Thanks for listening.

  • Audio driver for HP Compaq with Windows 7???

    Hi
    Here's my problem...
I have a HP Compaq dc7100 PC tower, I installed Windows 7 on it, but now impossible to find a working audio driver...
There's only audio drivers for XP and Vista...
    What should I do?
Thank you so much in advance!

    Hi:
    You have two choices:
    1. Launch the Windows Update program and let WU download and install the W7 audio driver for your dc7100 or,
    2. Download and install the Windows Vista Business audio driver for your PC:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...
If you installed the 64 bit version of Windows 7, you will need to click on your audio controller in the device manager, click on the driver tab. Then click on update driver and select the automatic method of finding the driver. Windows Update will download and install the 64 bit driver that way, but it won't if you just launch the Windows Update utility from the programs menu. Go figure!

  • Downloading a driver for an HP R40 printer

The H.P. website is suggesting that I reinstall windows to obtain information about driver installation for a R 40 printer ("It will come with the Windows download").  Is there an easier/more efficient way to go about this?

When adding the R40 printer to your Windows computer if the R40 driver is not listed just run the "Windows Update" from the Install the Print driver screen.

  • Canon Pixma Printing from a Macbook Pro using Windows XP Home machine

Using my windows xp home machine as a print server. I have a Canon MP480 printer
Installed bonjour on the xp machine.
    Installed the printer and drivers.
    Shared the printer on XP.
Installed the driver on the MacbookPro.
Added the printer using Windows print sharing.
Prints to XP machine so that the print job shows up in the queue on the windows machine.
Printer starts to get ready to print.
    It never prints.
This is a common printer because they give it away at the Mac store when you buy a new Macbookpro.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Usually when you select to add a Windows shared printer (Add Printer > Windows) you get prompted to enter the Windows user name and password. After entering this information you will then see the printer share name. If you are not getting prompted for account information after selecting the sharing computer then your Mac may have cached or saved a previous account used on Windows. Since you mention Guest for a previous attempt, maybe this is being used by the Mac and if that is now disabled on Windows then this could be a cause. So check your Windows accounts to see if the Guest account is still enabled.
The other thing that you can do is open Keychain Access on the Mac and look at the 'login' keychains. Your details for the connection to the PC could be saved here so you could delete this entry and then try adding the Windows printer share on the Mac again.
Once you do manage to see the printer share there is another matter that you need to be aware of. For some printers, the vendor created printer driver does not work when connecting to a Windows shared printer. For these types of connections you need to use either the Gutenprint or PrintFab driver suite.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free a version is included with Mac OS X 10.6. The one major issue with Gutenprint is that very new models of printers are often not included with the latest release. In this scenario it is necessary to try to find a compatible model for the respective vendor, but this can use a large amount of ink and paper before achieving a successful result.
So this can force you to use [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] and the creators do a very good job of keeping up with new model releases. There is a cost involved with the software (€49) but there is a 30 day trial so you can at least test that it works.

  • How to install driver on a 64 bit system to access a networked printer connected to a 32 bit pc?

Did a clean install of 64 bit Windows 7 and tried to connect to Deskjet printer connected to a 32 bit Windows 7 system on home network. Said to install from Windows installation DVD but no such animal on DVD. HP error only talked about USB connection and said nothing about network. Hookup worked fine when everything was 32 bit.

Sorry, that wasn't clear at all. I would use the 64 bit machine to go on the internet and download the latest 64 bit driver for the printer. Just run the setup on the 64 bit machine and I believe it will give you the option to search for a shared printer.  You must use the 64 bit version of the printer driver on the 64 bit machine.  The driver is just telling the 64 bit machine how to communicate with the printer no matter where it is.

  • Color Laserjet 4500 on Windows 7 - 64 bit Share with XP - 32 bit Need Additional 32-bit Drivers

    Here's the setup:
Desktop: Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit with Color Laserjet 4500, shared, connected and working fine. The name of the driver is HP Color LaserJet 4500 PCL 5.
Laptop: Windows XP Professional - 32 bit.
No network problems. Laptop sees the printer, but can't connect without the correct additional 32-bit drivers installed on the desktop. The only drivers I've been able to find are listed here. When I try to add under host printer properties/sharing/additional drivers, none of the downloaded .inf files are accepted.
Since Windows 7 installed a perfectly good 64-bit driver, there must be a compatible 32-bit driver that cab be added to allow the XP laptop to connect to this printer- but I have not been able to find it!
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest installing the PCL6 driver on your XP machine, then on the XP machine do the following:  Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes, Add a Printer, Next, Local Printer, Next, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, Have Disk, point to the directory where the driver was installed (default C:\clj4500pcl6win2kxp).
