Microstrategy metadata w Oracle
Hi everybody,
I have a few questions concerning the best practices about storing microstratgy's [bi reporting tool] metadata in Oracle and as our experience w Oracle is limited I kindly ask for you advice / opinion...
We are planning to configure an metadata database with two schema, one for the production environment and one for development.
1) Are there any best practices concerning the back-up procedures(in terms of type of backup, frequency..etc) ?
2) For hardware, any benefit in partitioning the server into drives, if the server will only be used for holding the Oracle metadata? Except for the standard RAM and disk space recommendations are there any other hardware settings that we should take into consideration?
3) Any recommendations for the physical separation of the data contained in the two schema?
Any input is appreciated
Regards,
>1) Are there any best practices concerning the back-up procedures(in terms of type of backup, frequency..etc) ?
application source code (including DDL) should be retained in a source code repository, like SUBVERSION.
>2) For hardware, any benefit in partitioning the server into drives, if the server will only be used for holding the Oracle metadata? Except for the standard RAM and disk space recommendations are there any other hardware settings that we should take into consideration?
none
>3) Any recommendations for the physical separation of the data contained in the two schema?
schema data is isolated from each other by default.
exception are made by issuing GRANT.
With Oracle everything is forbidden; except that which is explicitly GRANTED.

Hi Folks -
I am getting the below error when I try to run the HcmCompWorkbenchWorkarea.jspx in the Fusion COmpensation Module, locally from the JDeveloper Customization Role.
I simply created a FUsion Customization APplication with a Customization,Model and View COntroller Projects without doing any customizations and was just trying to run the above page.
I have never encountered this type of error before. Any help would be helpful.
Thanks

The issue was occurring because generic-site-resources.xml file was not getting packaged with default Autogenerated MAR file.
We had to manually copy siteresources folder insite Portal->adfmsrc->siteresources. siteresources folder contains the generic-site-resources.xml file. Once we placed the file there and created ear, we found an entry of generic-site-resources.xml inside the MAR.
You can query MDS database to see if there is an entry for this file: select * from mds_paths where path_name like '%generic%';
If this table does not have and entry you will see this MDS error. -
Check image metadata in Oracle Forms 6.0
Hello,
I need to check if an image selected by the user in a Form has the EXIF format because, if so, I need to convert it (using an IrfanView command) before persist it in the database.
I am developing using Oracle Forms 6.0 and Oracle 9i. Do you know if there is a way to check an image metada data inside the Forms.
Thanks for answering.
DavidYou can also verify EXIF on client side with java (before you post image into database) (Java plugable component) ;)
some libraries...
http://drewnoakes.com/code/exif/
http://code.google.com/p/metadata-extractor/
http://jheader.sourceforge.net/
Or you can also make Java stored procedure on database side...

Error when import metadata form Oracle Olap (aw) to rpd
Hi all,
When import Oracle OLAP analytic workspace to rpd user bi Admin tool, i get error:

I think that BI server hot support version of analytics workspace.
BI server: BIEE 11.1.1.5

So, can you help me fix it or tell me about suport AW version of BI server.
Thanks so much.user12232768 wrote:
But this document just help me fix problem with connection string, in this case after that, i get problem with version of AW.So you get the same error again? Or is this a new error? Also, how are you importing into the repository? Are you using the OBIEE Plug-in for Analytic Workspace Manager?
I also found a similar query in the forum, see if this helps:

Designer 6i / Database Oracle 10G / Metadata on Oracle 9. Is that possible?
Dear all,
Please give me a suggestion here! We have the Developer tools 6i and will want to bring a new Oracle 10G database into Designer 6i and the metadata to be stored in 9i database. Please let me know if this is possible or should we go for higher versions of Designer.
Cheers
Sarma.Sarma,
I assume you want to install Des6i in a 9i database: that's possible.
Then you want to capture the database(definitions) from a 10g database into that Des6i version: also that's possible.
But I think it is not a supported combination...

MS SQL table metadata to Oracle
Hi Gurus!
Is it possible using ODI create target table on Oracle using metadata from MS SQL?
I can done reverse engineering for MS SQL table and put it as source in interface and than ODI will use this information and create flow table on Oracle.
Can I create target table like a flow table 1:1 only with Oracle data types?
Thank in advance!Hello,
I have a similar issue, about creating a table in oracle from an existing table in MS Server.
I've tried the above solution.
However, there are data type incompatibility issues - like timestamp datatype which is not valid in Oracle since the variable is declared as :
BLOBLASTUPDATED TIMESTAMP(23) NULL
Error: ORA-30088: datetime/interval precision is out of range
which is due to '(23)'
I actually have to replicate a table (which already exist in MS Server) in Oracle automatically using ODI as interface tool.
Any advice would be of great help.
Thanks.
Rgds,
Nishna

Metadata from Oracle BI Repository
Hi everyone,
Anybody knows how to get the metadata from an Oracle repository? Is there any utility that can be run in batch? Or is there any API to do this?
Any help appreciated..

Japenese Metadata for Oracle E-Biz
Hi
I want to install the E-Business Suite in Japanese so that I can get the Application Names in the Japanese version. My current installation (from oracle edelivery) has Source Language as English so in translation tables I get Application Name in egnlish both JA and EN languages.
Can you tell me how can I get the metadata in Japanese. Do I need another installer instead of NLS pack for my current installers.
Thanks & Regards
Asheesh AroraHi
I have already installed the NLS pack and ran Maintain multi-lingual tables thru adadmin to update all multilingual tables in your system.
Now I see the metadata for both EN and JA languages but the metadata is always in english. e.g the FND_APPLICATION_TL the data is
LANGUAGE | APPLICATION_NAME | SOURCE_LANG
US | System Administration | US
JA | System Administration | US
What I need for JA language the APPLICATION_NAME should be in japanese language basically it should be localized. -
User Modifiable Metadata Files - Oracle Identitty Manager
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie in OIM 11.1.1.5.0 and I want to configure auto-approval for self-registration as it's explained in the User's guide for oim. I just don't understand where I can get the SelfCreateUserDataset.xml default template. I mean in which directory can I find it ?
I thought it was in the Oracle_HOME/server/metadata directory but the only sub-directories I have in this one are /db and /ldapReconJobs.
Thanks,

Thanks for your quick answer ! I've already used the MDS Export Utility but it doesn't change anything ...
This is my weblogic.properties file :
wls_servername=oim_server1

metadata_to_loc=C:\Users\Administrateur\Desktop\metadata (metadata is the directory where I want to have this default template)
metadata_files=/metadata/iam-features-requestactions/model-data/SelfCreateUserDataset.xml
And when I launch weblogicExportMetadata.bat this is what I have in the console :

this is what i have done so far. i really nead some help asap!!!
1. Install Oracle 9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1) Enterprise Edition with the General purpose database configuration (Data warehouse works as well). At the end of the installation I chose the password management button to change passwords for the few necessary accounts: SYS, SYSTEM, OLAPSYS, SH.
2. Download the p3948480_9206_WINNT.zip from metalink, the 9.2.0.6 patchset
3. Shut down any existing Oracle9i database instances with normal or immediate priority. Stop all listener and other services running in the Oracle home directory where you want to install the patch set.
4. unzip the content of thepatch to a temp directory
5. start setup.exe under the temp directory (it will start the Oracle Universal installer 10.1.0.3)
6. install the patchset to your Oracle home, selecting the source in the temp_dir\stage\products.jar file
7. review carefully the post-installation tasks for the patchset:
Review the following sections before upgrading a database (quote from the patchset html readme):
8.2.1.1If JServer is part of the installation ensure that there is at least 10 MB of free space allocated to the SYSTEM tablespace.
8.2.1.2 Check XDB Tablespace Size
For RAC installations, ensure that there is at least 50 MB of free space allocated to the XDB tablespace.
8.2.1.3 Set the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and JAVA_POOL_SIZE Initialization Parameters
Set the value of the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and the JAVA_POOL_SIZE initialization parameters as follows:
Start the database:
SQL> STARTUP
If necessary, enter the following command to determine whether the system uses an initialization parameter file (initsid.ora) or a server parameter file (spfiledbname.ora):
SQL> SHOW PARAMETER PFILE;
This command displays the name and location of the server parameter file or the initialization parameter file.
Determine the current values of these parameters:
SQL> SHOW PARAMETER SHARED_POOL_SIZE
SQL> SHOW PARAMETER JAVA_POOL_SIZE
If the system is using a server parameter file:
If necessary, set the value of the SHARED_POOL_SIZE initialization parameter to at least 150 MB:
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET SHARED_POOL_SIZE='150M' SCOPE=spfile;
If necessary, set the value of the JAVA_POOL_SIZE initialization parameter to at least 150 MB:
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET JAVA_POOL_SIZE='150M' SCOPE=spfile;
If the system uses an initialization parameter file, if necessary, change the values of the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and the JAVA_POOL_SIZE initialization parameters to at least 150 MB in the initialization parameter file (initsid.ora).
Shut down the database:
SQL> SHUTDOWN
8.2.2 Upgrade the Database
After you install the patch set, you must complete the following steps on every database associated with the upgraded Oracle home:
Log on as a member of the Administrators group to the computer where the Oracle components are installed.
Use SQL*Plus to login to the database as the SYS user with SYSDBA privileges:
sqlplus /NOLOG
CONNECT SYS/password AS SYSDBA
Enter the following SQL*Plus commands:
SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE
SQL> SPOOL patch.log
SQL> @ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\catpatch.sql
SQL> SPOOL OFF
Restart the database:
SQL> SHUTDOWN
SQL> STARTUP
Run the utlrp.sql script to recompile all invalid PL/SQL packages now instead of when the packages are accessed for the first time. This step is optional but recommended.
SQL> @ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\utlrp.sql
12. Install JDeveloper 9.0.4 (download it from OTN and just unzip it in a directory ... it doesn't require an oracle home)
13. Install BI Beans 9.0.4 (download it from OTN as well), run the setup.exe that comes with it and in the destination oracle home select the directory where you installed JDeveloper and give an oracle home name to it)
14. Install the BIBDEMO schema:
Create a directory on the computer that is running the Oracle9i database. This install_home directory is the location to which you will upload the data files that are required to build the BIBDEMO schema.
On the computer where BI Beans is installed, locate the bibeans_home\bibdemo_schema folder (where bibeans_home is the root folder of your BI Beans installation). Copy all of the files found in this folder to the install_home folder on your server machine.
Open a DOS prompt and navigate to the install_home folder.
Run bibdemo.bat to install the schema, using the following syntax:
bibdemo.bat <path to Oracle database files >
For example, for an instance named my9iService, enter the following:
bibdemo.bat D:\OraHome1\oradata\my9iService
You are prompted for the password for the sys as sysdba user.
The script takes approximately 15 minutes to run, depending on the machine specifications. It is normal to see some error messages while the script is running. In addition, when materialized views are being created in the database, the script will appear to stop; this is also normal. A clear message will tell you when the script has completed.
The log files (*.log) that are generated by the installation script are stored in the folder from which you ran the script.
Here's what
bi_checkconfig.bat -h ana -po 1521 -sid proiect -u bibdemo -p bibdemo -q

now: i have created some new stuff:
1). user ana with roles:
-dba
-olap_dba
-connect
-resource
(same roles as bibdemo)
2).schema ana; tablespace ana (permanent), tablespace anatemp (temporary)
3).i have created some relational tables and i have inserted some data in them:
agent, aparat (cofee machines), beneficiar (clients), locatii (city), raport (REPORT), timp (time), tipaparat (types of cofee machines), tipbautura (products : types of cofee made by all the cofee machines), zone (state)
4). one fact table with:
- sold cantity (measure)
- id_bautura (id_product) primary key
- id_timp(id_time) primary key
- id_beneficiar (id_client) primary key
- id_agent primary key
- id_locatie (id_city) primary key
- id_aparat (id_cofee_machine)primary key
i have inserted some data also
5).dimensions:
AGENT_DIM :levels: codag(id_agent), numeag (agent name), telefag (agent phone number)from relational table agent
BENEFICIAR_DIM :levels: codben (id_client), denumire (client name), adresa (adress) ,codl (id_city) etc from relatinal table beneficiar (clients)
TIMP_DIM :levels: id, year, month from relational table timp (time)
TIPBAUTURA_DIM :levels: codbautura (id_product), numebautura (product name)from relational table tipbautura (products)
ZONA_DIM :levels: codzona (id state), numezona (state name), codoras (id city), numeoras (city name) with ierarhy id_state---id_city FROM 2 RELATINAL TABLES CITY AND STATE!!!!!!!! AM I ALOUD TO DO THAT?????
DO I NEED TO CREATE A DIMENSION FROM ONLY ONE TABLE???????
APARAT_DIM :LEVELS: codben (id client), codtip (id machine type), denumireap (machine type name), matricolap ((machine id) (FROM 2 RELATIONAL TABLES ALSO!!!!!!! FROM TYPES OF COFEE MACHINES AND COFEE MACHINES!!!!!
6). I HAVE NOW CREATED THE CUBE FROM THE FACT TABLE AND WITH ALL THE DIMENSIONS
7). summary advisor wizard NOT WORKING! IT NEVER STOPS!
8). I HAVE CREATED ALSO ONE materialized view FOR THE CUBE
IF I COMPILE IT... NO ERRORS
9). CUBE VIEWER NOT WORKING!!!!!!! IT ONLY APEARS A BELL!!!
NOW IF I RUN BI_CHECK CONFIG ON ANA AND ALSO ON BIBDEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT SAYS:
1) An error occurred during olap API metadata retrieval. This is probably caused by inconsistent metadata.

WHAT AM I MISSING? SHOULD I USE AW MANAGER? OR DO I NEED TO CREATE AN AMNALITIC WORKSPACE???
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO CREATE A GOOD METADATA????Hi,
The issue here is if the whole catalog is corrupt or just one schema. So to try and determine the status of the catalog I would try:
1) Using OEM remove all the objects you created
2) I presume you created your database using the Database Configuration Assistant? You should have used the warehouse template
3) Make sure the following accounts are unlocked and also not expired : SH, OLAPSYS
4) Make sure the password for the SH schema is SH
5) Make sure the password for the OLAPSYS account is manager
6) Install the BIBDEMO schema that is shipped with BI Beans. This in the jdev_home/bibeans/bibdemo_schema
The installation process will remove SH schema from the OLAP catalog.
7)Once this is installed use JDeveloper to see if you can create a crosstab or graph.
8) If the BIBDEMO schema works try creating your new schemas one at a time.
9) Make sure the if you define the a dimension as type time it has END_DATE (column type DATE) and TIME_SPAN (column type number) defined. Otherwise don't define the dimension as type time.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I am not able to run a simple and empty UICell in JDeveloper.
Steps:
1.Create a new UICell by including ApplCore jars in JDev on Linux environment.
2.Right click on this cell and run it.
3.I can able to see some exceptions in Log file of JDev too.
like,
weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceDeadException: 0:weblogic.common.ResourceException: Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was: OAUTH marshaling failure
4.But a URL is pop up in Mozilla browser with following exceptions,
Error 500--Internal Server Error

Please let me know what is the solution/work around/suggestion, thanks in advance.I run into this problem today and since there is no solution posted for it, I will post my solution to it for future reference:
This problem appeared all of a sudden - I was able to deploy before - when deploying from JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 onto WLS (standalone version shipped with JDeveloper 11.1.1.4). The solution that worked for me was to copy the needed library - sunjce_provider.jar - from the java jre/lib/ext directory to the domain's lib directory. This will add the needed jar to the server's classpath during startup and allow you to deploy. -
All,
Want some pointers to the error that I am running into. The application supports webcenter and when we bring up the web page we get the error below
oracle.jbo.NoDefException: JBO-25002: Definition oracle.epm.planning.application.ui.DataControls of type null is not found
caused by the nested error Caused by: oracle.mds.core.MetadataNotFoundException: MDS-00013: no metadata found for metadata object "/oracle/epm/planning/application/ui/DataControls.dcx"
at oracle.mds.core.MetadataObject.getBaseMO(MetadataObject.java:1279)
There is no file called DataControls.dcx under the "/oracle/epm/planning/application/ui/ package.
How do we remove the runtime reference that webcenter still seems to hold onto?
Any help is really appreciated. It supports WebCenter Customizable Components tag library in the ViewController project. The DataControls.dcx file which was under the oracle.epm.planning.application.ui package was still present under the classes folder. Since this file was deleted from the JDEV view it seemed that it should not be included. It worked on my environment but not for others who did not have the file stored under classes folder under the ViewController project.
I have the problem resolved now. Thanks for all the pointers. -
Hi experts,
I am trying to deploy a new version of a WC Portal application and when the deployment finishes successfully I cannot see the web page. The error is:
Error 500--Internal Server Error

Caused By: oracle.mds.core.MetadataNotFoundException: MDS-00013: no metadata found for metadata object "/oracle/webcenter/search/model/DataControls.dcx"
I have checked similar errors in the forums and tried the solutions purposed but with no success. I do not understand why the application is looking for the DataControls.dcx file inside a standard WC Search library.
Any help would be much appreciated.Hi Dani,
Eventually I found the problem, it is reported in Oracle Support as Doc ID 1503173.1.
It seems jDeveloper is a bit special when adding Directories to the MAR file. If the whole directory "/oracle" is added, the adf-config.xml introduces the following line:
namespace metadata-store-usage="WebCenterFileMetadataStore" path="/oracle"/
As a result, this diverts all /oracle/... file and class requests to MDS, which causes failures.
So when editing the MAR deployment profile be careful to select the sub-directories under /oracle/webcenter/portalapp/ one by one.
Added to this, I had to perform the cleaning process you suggested to make it work too, otherwise I get a different error...
Final steps are:
1. Undeploy application.
2. Delete MDS partition.
3. Shutdown managed server.
4. Delete /cache and /tmp content for the managed server.
5. Start managed server.
6. Exectute Clean all in jDeveloper.
7. Create a new mar deployment as described in SR 1503173.1.
8. Deploy to EAR file.
9. Deploy new application to managed server using Enterprise Manager.
And it works!
Thanks for your help! -
