Form Field in word forms to be exported to pdf form

Dear all,
Within our company, all templates for documents are existing in word .doc format and will be edited in word as well.
I would like to add a form field within these word templates which will be recognised by Acrobat 8 Pro automatically as a form field for a digital signature.
I would like to do this within the word form, because I don't want to add the numerous (up to 10) signature fields manually with the Acrobat form
each time I export this file to .pdf.
This is necessary in order to certify a document with a visible signature and to allow more colleagues to sign this document as well after my certification.
Does someone know a workaround or even a solution?
Thanks in advance!
Matt

The auto field wizard does not catch all fields or types of fields (signature is one of them), does not keep exclusionary groups, and does not add the optional values. The wizard can have a hard time recognizing check boxes and radio buttons.
So even after you run the wizard there is a lot of manual clean up to perform. I just find it easier to create the form fields as needed. I also use a lot of field naming for automation processing of groups of fields.
Open Office does not do signature, but it keeps the options for combo/drop downs and radio buttons/check boxes.

• Pages 09 Are enterable forms possible? So that I can export to PDF and others can fill in that form and return to me?

I want to create a membership form (PDF format) and put it on my website for potential members to download. Ideally they can enter their details in the PDF and return it to me via e-mail. How would I do this please?

No, this capability does not exist in Pages.
LibreOffice has a forms designer so that you can create in-line, fillable forms. You can then one-button export to PDF. The LibreOffice Writer Guide has an entire chapter assigned to Forms.

• I have created a form but it won't let me 'save as PDF Form'

Hi there,
I have created a form but it won't let me 'save as PDF Form'.
When I click the button a timer appears then disappears without creating the pdf form.
I have created forms previously and not had this problem before.
Thanks

Are you using the FormsCentral desktop application or FormsCentral in a web browser?
I would try the things recommended in this FAQ, the issue is different but the fix is likely similar:
http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-4141
You can also try sharing your form with me to see if I can save PDF, that would tell us if it is a (very rare) issue with the form or on your system. If you'd like, share with [email protected] and please include a reference to this Forum post so I know what we are looking for, instructions for sharing your form: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2462

• How can I export a PDF form and the filled in fields to a text document?

OK, so I have a situation. I need people to be able to open a reader-enabled PDF form, fill out the form fields, and then export the filled-out PDF form to a basic text document. This seems easy since Adobe Reader can save to text. The problem is, the answers in the form fields do not show in the text file! Each radio button shows as yes and no, and there is no indication in the text file which one was selected. In addition, the form fields are not exported next to the questions on the form. I tried flattening the form in Adobe pro, and that did not work either.
How can I create a fillable form for Adobe Reader, and then let the user export their answers AND the questions on the form to plain text?

OK, so I tried this as a starting point, and assigned it to a button on page 3 of the form.
p=0;
console.show();
console.clear();
for (var j = 0; j < this.getPageNumWords(p);j++) {
var word = this.getPageNthWord(p,j,false);
console.println(word);
This gives me all the words on the first page not in fields, and each word goes on a separate line. Now, characters in the document such as "&" or ")" cause the rest of the word to go on the next line down.
Next, I tried this:
console.show();
console.clear();
for (var j = 0; j < this.getPageNthWord(j);j++)
var word = this.getPageNthWord(j,false);
console.println(word);
This only gives me the first word on page 3, the page the button is placed?
What I need to do is run the code and place words on one line until the code hits a keyword "var cKeyWord1 = “Key1” for example?, then insert the value of field one, Start a new line in the console, restart the code where it left off until it hits the next key word "var cKeyWord2 = “Key2”, insert the value of field two, add a new line, and on and on.
Is this possible?

• Control checkbox form field in word with report generation toolkit for Microsoft office

Hi all,
Happy New Year!
I insert in the word template the check box form field. It has a bookmark name "Check1".
Now I'm trying to checked or unchecked this field using the report generation toolkit for Microsoft office and I couldn't. If anyone now how to do it? I'm using LabView 8.0
Thanks in advance,
Boris
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Boris,
The Microsoft Office Toolkit does not have support for checking/unchecking check box forum field. You would have to research the activex functionality that enables this to be checked or unchecked and then do the activex calls yourself. I did hear of one csutomer who used a special font to write a blank box or a checkbox into a word document and changed it that way as well.
Maybe http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53715 gives a hint to an activex reference

• Auto-Detect Form Fields from Word 2007

LiveCycle 8.x fails to detect form fields from form documents I've created in Word 2007. I also notice that Word 2007 documents saved as Word 2003 documents do not convert the text fields either (text fields static).
Is LiveCycle 8.x compatible with Office 2007 or does it depend on the conversion from 2007 (.docx format) to 2003 (.doc format) before creating the PDF then detecting and placing the fields?

I could tell it not to run in Acrobat 9 but can’t figure out how to do that in version 11. When I use the Create Form command, I get a series of windows that guide me through the process of creating the form. Unlike Acrobat 9, none of those windows includes an option for not running auto detect. At the end of the process, the form is created with fields. The only solution seems to be to let Acrobat create the fields, and then delete them all and manually create the fields I want. Thanks for your feedback.

• Export completed PDF Form to New PDF ???

Hello,
I have a USPS PDF that is filled out complete with all the needed information such as names, dates, weight, and so on. This is from July 2009, the USPS just came out the exact same form for 2010 and I want to know if there is a way to export the July 2009 form information to the 2010 sheet. They are the same sheet exactly just the date has changed ? I have acrobat 8 Pro.
Thanks

For the data, you can also try an export to a data file (FDF typically) from the old form and then import the data to the new form.
The success would depend on the same field names being used.
I was going to suggest that too until I looked at the second form. It has no form fields.

• Can I script an email button to put one of the form fields in the subject line and to name the form?

This is a fillable form on a website. We want people to complete the form, then click on the email button to send it to us. Prefer to have the "name" field populate in the "subject line" of the email, and also rename the form that same field name. Is that possible?

In the sample I used the below syntax to send an email..
event.target.submitForm({cURL:"mailto:"+ strToAddress + "?cc=" + strCCAddress + "&subject=" + strSubject + "&body=" + strMessage,cSubmitAs:"PDF"});
The highlighted ones are local variables which will hold the value from the form fields.
If you want to get the Subject from Name field in the form, use some thing like this.
var strSubject = name.rawValue;
//and then pass the value to the code.
event.target.submitForm({cURL:"mailto:"+ strToAddress + "?cc=" + strCCAddress + "&subject=" + strSubject + "&body=" + strMessage,cSubmitAs:"PDF"});
Hope this helps..
Thanks

• Can I create calculated fields using formscentral on a locally created, fillable PDF form? If so, how?

I am using Acrobat XI Pro to build a fillable PDF form that can be used by customer who have Adobe Reader installed. I would like to create calculated fields, including the summation of two or more currency fields and the product of a currency and number field. The procedure for creating these escapes me. Does anyone have any insight?

Hi Gilad,
thankyou! - yes it seems though I was using the text tool when I had this problem: When I had created a few fields in the 'form edit' mode I then may later have added some normal 'comment' fields of text in the normal mode to highlight certain aspects on a form - I used the text tool thinking that was the right way in to add or edit text - I can now see I double click with the hand tool to still be able to access any text field I want to. Yay!
Many thanks for your kind assistance - I shall try this method later on a new form I was trying to create and which was giving me grief.
One last thing then: what is that default text field that can't be deleted actually for - why is it there? After all, a 'blank pdf' should surely be a truly blank pdf? Perhaps this is one for mighty Adobe....?
Kind Regards,
Pete

how do I open a Word file which was exported from a PDF file?

Hi alansandy,
You can find your converted Word file stored in your Acrobat.com account at https://cloud.acrobat.com. You can download your file from your account by selecting it and clicking the Download icon. Then, you can open it right up in Word!

Hello all,
I just created a form in pro 8 for our salesmen and it is a sales order form. I have sent it out to them to fill out and return it by pressing the email button in the form and some have come back as XML date stream and some came back as the original form with all fields filled in. I want to know how to get all of them to come back filled in instead of the XML Data. All salesmen have Reader 8 installed on the machines. Can anyone help me with this problem?

• How to keep embedded PDF's in an MS Word 2010 document during export to PDF with PDFmaker

Hi,
I am preparing in MS Word 2010 a Software Manual with embedded PDF's
When I double click in MS Word on the inserted PDF, Acrobat opens the embedded PDF (these are A0 CAD Drawings).
I want this functionality also after I have converted the MS Word file to a PDF with the PDFMaker add-in (Acrobat X Pro)
Is this possible?
Greetzzz,
Gerben

No. PDF files cannot be embedded within the pages of other PDF files.
What you could do is attach the other files after the PDF has been created, then manually link to those attachments in Acrobat.

• Font changes in PDF form fields created in InDesign

I wasn't sure where to post this -- InDesign or Acrobat forum -- I created a lot of form fields in InDesign and when I exported to PDF, some of the form fields ended up using Times and some using Helvetica. When creating the fields in InDesign, I copied and pasted most of them to duplicate them and then changed their names, so it seems like they should all be using the same font.
I know how to later change the form field font in Acrobat, but it's not efficient to have to do that.
If anyone knows how to specify which font is used in an InDesign form field and make it stick in the resulting PDF, I hope you'll help me out.

Check if there is everything OK with the <ORACLE_HOME>\tools\Common90\uifont.ali file.
You can alias specific styles of font there. For example
Courier.12... = Courier.14....
changes courier 12 to 14 in the report output.

• Table fields to match pdf form

I found this on my formscentral help file.
Note: Some types of form fields aren’t supported when you import a PDF form. For example, text fields with formatting applied, such as numeric or percentage fields, are converted to plain text fields. And, signature fields aren’t converted, as Adobe FormsCentral doesn’t support this type of field.
For more information, see Issues encountered while importing an existing PDF form.
http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2533
What I have experienced.
Formscentral does not allow you to format the table in their views when you use a pdf as the form, only if you use the online form.
I found that when out when I got 6 decimal points when multiplying tax, which was .04166. On the pdf it defaults to 2 decimals.
Another thing I noticed. My pdf form date field was set to MM/dd/YY. When I just put in 5/06 in that field, on the pdf form it auto corrected it to 05/06/13. When that pdf form was submitted to formscentral, that field showed 5/06. So it is pulling exactly what you input into the pdf form regardless of how the pdf form corrects your mistakes.
My real question is if Formscentral Is working to allow you to set the table format to work with pdf's too?
If not are you working to add calculated fields to the online form?
Not complaining just wanting. The product is awsome as is but this would take it a step further.

Thanks for your well articulated observations on our product. With regard to your questions about new funcitonality I can only suggest that you find the assocciated features on our ideas list and vote for them. http://forums.adobe.com/community/formscentral?view=idea#/?ideaView=5513&numResults=30&sta geFilter=-1&stageID=-1&start=0 We use this list to help guide future development work.

• Convert Word 2007 Form to PDF Form not creating dropdown list fields

I created a new word document with all my text fields with lines and 5 dropdown list fields with all their values. Works great in Word 2007. When I convert it to a pdf form (Acrobat Pro X) none of the dropdown list fields get created. The text fields do, but no drop downs. If I have to create them all manually in Acrobat, what's the point of doing all the work in Word?

The Word conversion to PDF and Forms Wizard do not detect and do not know how to complete a drop down box. I do not even create the form fields in Word as there is no transfer to the PDF. I also find the Wizard lacking in proper naming and grouping. It is just easier and more efficient to add the fields manually or with JavaScript tools.
The only product that can do this is apache OpenOffice when an author creates the from body and form fields in the Writer application and then exports to a PDF.
