Formate a String into currency

Hi
I have a value in String say
String val="12345678"
and
String val1="12345678.0"
i want to print these value as
1,23,45,678 *[ #,##,### ] ---> val*
1,23,45,678.00 *[#,##,###.00 ]--> val1*
can any one help me.....

Anyway - here's some code that does it manually:
public static String format(String input, int maxFractionaPositions,
               int firstCommaAfterNoOfDigits, int otherCommasAfterNoOfDigits) {
          String parts[] = input.split("\\.");
          int maxFractionalLen = maxFractionaPositions;
          StringBuffer fb = new StringBuffer();
          StringBuffer ib = new StringBuffer();
          if (parts.length > 1) {
               String fractional = parts[1];
               if (fractional.length() > maxFractionalLen) {
                    fb.append(fractional.substring(0, maxFractionalLen));
               } else {
                    int j = 0;
                    for (int i = 0; i < fractional.length() && i < maxFractionalLen; i++) {
                         j = i;
                         fb.append(fractional.charAt(i));
                    j++;
                    for (int i = j; i < maxFractionalLen; i++) {
                         fb.append("0");
          String intPart = parts[0];
          int counter = 0;
          for (int i = intPart.length() - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
               ib.append(intPart.charAt(i));
               counter++;
               if (((counter - firstCommaAfterNoOfDigits) % otherCommasAfterNoOfDigits) == 0
                         && ((counter - firstCommaAfterNoOfDigits) >= 0)) {
                    ib.append(",");
          ib.reverse();
          if (fb.length() > 0) {
               ib.append(".").append(fb);
          return ib.toString();
     }and here are some sample aoutputs for input: 152123123611.123123
System.out.println(FormatterTest.format("152123123611.123123", 5, 3, 2)); gives 1,52,12,31,23,611.12312
System.out.println(FormatterTest.format("152123123611.123123", 2, 5, 3)); gives 1,521,231,23611.12
and finally for your requirements:
System.out.println(FormatterTest.format("152123123611.123123", 2, 3, 2)); gives 1,52,12,31,23,611.12

  • Formatting a String into Readable Text

    Folks,
    I have searched for an FM or code snippet that will help me do this but no luck so far so hopefully you can help.
    I am using the READ_TEXT FM to bring back in a table of 175 entries with a max of 132 length.
    I want to output this table onto a form which has a max length of 255 characters.
    An example is probably best.
    I receive:

    I hope this makes sense? I want to use the maximum amount 255 characters possible to me without splitting words in half. Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Guys,
    Please find below sample code which hopefully somone may find useful, but please note, I had to implement note 1407684 for this to work even though we are on version 701. Many Thanks.

  • Can anyone answer this question? What is used to format a string so that it falls into a certain Row/Column in excel? see text for indepth question.

    I'm attaching a file that may help. Just remember this is my FIRST attempt at using NI/FeildPoint so things that would be obvious to the normal users more than likely would slide right by me. So I'll try and explain what the text contains as to make my problem more clear. I'm using a FP-1000, FP-AI-100, and a FP-TB-10. i'm creating a application where I'm using the 8 channels from the FP-AI-100 to monitor a control system ,that we manufacture. The control system is in an environmental chamber. I use the FP-TB-10 to monitor the temperature while in the chamber. The control system is ran for 4 hours under varing enviromental conditions while I monitor vital system voltages with the FP-AI-100. Now the application that i'm building starts with the obvious FP CREATE.VI and so forth I have no problem communicating with the FP's, but the information that I'm monitioring needs to be placed into a file with Headers describing the information below it. Now I use a "WHILE LOOP.VI" to monitor the FP-AI-100 & FP-TB-10 for the 4 hour period. but before that I create and open a file where I use a "CONCATENATE STRINGS.VI" to enter the headers I need. I do this by CONSTANTS, CONTROLS, TABs, AND CARRIAGE RETURN being entered into the "CONCATENATE STRINGS.VI" in the order I want them to appear. I use ROW 1 to enter (OPERATOR:with a CONSTANT) an a (CONTROL so the operator may enter his name and be recorded into the file) using a TAB to seperate Columns and a CARRIAGE RETURNto drop down to ROW 2 for the next headers. I use header names and TABs to seperate the columns. This part works great. I end up with ROW 1 having the operator information then ROW 2 having the headers for all the channels I'm using to monitor the control system with in their own column. The trouble happens when I write to this file during the "WHILE LOOP". The information recorded for DATE:, TIME:, and Channel 0 of the FP-AI-100 end up right under their corresponding header on ROW 3, but the rest of the data ends up on ROW 4 in column 3 and goes down many rows with some of the data not being stored at all. It varies on how many rows are used starting at ROW 4 but hey always stay in column 3. I use the "FP READ.VI" outputing to a "ARRAY TO SPREADSHEET STRING.VI" outputing to a "CONCATENATE STRINGS.VI" for each channel within the "WHILE LOOP" then into the "WRITE.VI". I use the "CONCATENATE STRINGS.VI" to place my data OR atleast I thought you could do that some how I'm not quit doing something write either there is a sampling/timing issue or writing to file issue where things are being confused in the "WHILE LOOP" if someone know a better route to perform what I'm tring here I would be interested. Its not like I'm not giving it the old colledge try here but without proper training and the vagness of the manuals it's difficult to understand what every connection actually does.I'm tring though for everyone who happens to fill pity for me

    Oh, to bad. I'm using LV 6,02 and tried to save the application as LV5.1,
    but it didn't work.

    Allmost right. The 8 channels come out as 1D-array, ch0...ch7.
    > #1--How do I change the delimiter (TAB) to a delimiter (comma) in a

    > ...cut
    I don't use this Spreadsheet VI, because files coming out there allways
    start this time consuming EXCEL wizzard. Because of this, I programmed my
    own CSV-conversion vi. Maybe you could just use a common texteditor, like
    wordpad and put the csv-examples from my last reply down to a text file
    and rename it to *.csv. Texteditors terminate lines with "\r\n" by
    default, so this is a very quick way for testing.
    > FP_Analog_Logging example to record all eight channels it uses a Array
    I didn't find the vi you metione above, but there is another good one:
    Look at examples\FieldPoint\DataLogging\FP Logger.vi.
    In a little case structure, at "false", there is a function called "Format
    into string".
    Pop up on the format string and adjust >>'\' Codes Display<<.
    Then you change the format string into: %.;%-f%s
    A Tab string is connected to the lower input of this function. Replace
    this one with a comma.
    That should do.
    >
    > #2--If using just one Create Tag.vi and one Read.vi and I have the
    > Item Name listed as ALL I take it that the information comming out of
    > the Read.vi is data for each channel in a String format starting with
    > channel 0 and ending with channel 7 for the FP-AI-100.
    Yes, just as explained above. If you put a indicator at the output to
    display the values, you can expand the display to show all 8 channels, but
    you can't name induvidual cells. In a array, all cells have identical
    named labels. If you want to name the individually, you have to attach the
    array to cluster function and put the indicator after this one. Enable
    labe display and name the output values individually.
    > #3--Now I use the following to "Format String" in the Array to
    > Spreadsheet string.vi (%.4f)but I don't see anyway of changing the
    > delimiter from (TAB) to (COMA)
    Explained above.
    > #4 you stated text strings need a "as prefix and sufix" and each
    > string is seperated by a coma, a period is used as decimal number
    > separator and lines have to be terminated by my question is
    > WHERE IS THIS ACCOMPLISHED? WHAT VI OR WHAT CONNECTOR PIN?
    Well, modifying strings are done with string functions.
    Above, as I explained how the sample FP Logger.vi can be modified to do
    the job for numbers. The pre- and suffixing with ", you only need for
    strings, which EXCEL should interpret a string and as nothing else as a
    string, even if there's a number inside. You usually need this only for
    headers. So its easyest, if you just write your string into a string
    constant or control and concatenate it to the previous csv-file contents.
    Oh, I just see by looking at the above mentioned example... Inside the
    case structure, but in the "true" case, there are error messages
    concatenated to the logfile. At this point it is importent, to use " for
    integrating the message into the CSV file, because a error message usually
    looks like this: >> ERROR 2345 in vi yxz <<
    Here you have text and number strings mixed in one line. EXCEL does not
    know, if it should interpret the number inside the error line as separate
    number, separating the line into three colums i.e. string before number,
    number and string after number. So tell EXCEL by putting a " before and
    after the line each.
    For this, expand the Format To String function by one input, move down all
    connections, to be able to insert a string constant with a " to the first
    argument connector. Change the contents of the string constant at the
    bottom argument from tab to ", (quotation mark AND comma)
    > #5 You gave me an example of what a 3 column header could look like:
    > "col0","col1","col2"\r\n Now is this something that you enter
    > somewhere cause I know that \r is carriage return and \n is newline so
    > I take it that the above is entered somewhere maybe in the Write.vi to
    > the connector called Header (F)? See this is what confuses me because
    > NI manuals have no examples of certain connectors types being used or
    > any reference as to how they manipluate data with there varing type
    > inputs. Or maybe I'm just missing them.
    The example I mentioned above help here to.
    Look at the Write File function. This function receves data from a
    function named concatenate strings. Expand this function to have one more
    spare input at the bottom. Create a string constant. Switch the constant
    display to "\" mode. Enter "col0","col1","col2"\r\n into the constant.
    Connect the constant to the spare input.
    Doing this, every dataline in the csv file is followed by
    "col0","col1","col2"\r\n .
    I wish you a nice weekend,

  • Converting a string into mySQL date format

    I have a bit of code that collects data values from a bean and I want it to then insert this into a mySQL database. My string is in the format "23/12/1983", how can i put this into a date field in my database? The bit of code I have got so far looks like this...
    String month = formHandler.month + "/";
    String day = formHandler.day + "/";
    String year = formHandler.year ;
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    sb.append(day);
    sb.append(month);
    sb.append(year);
    String myDate = sb.toString();myDate is the value that I want to go into the database

    Limo2kz,
    The key to inserting a date into a database is to convert the date string into an SQL friendly format. i.e. yyyy-MM-dd.
    One way of doing this is as follows:
    SimpleDateFormat NICE_DATE_FORMAT =
    new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    SimpleDateFormat SQL_DATE_FORMAT =
    new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");
    Date date = new Date();
    try {
    date = NICE_DATE_FORMAT.parse(dateString);
    } catch (ParseException pe) {
    pe.printStackTrace();
    String sqlDate = SQL_DATE_FORMAT.format(date);
    Now it is just a matter of creating the insert statement like normal, and making sure that the date string is in quotes.
    I hope that helps.

    Xerces has a class called OutputFormat
    If you have your XML document in memory, you can format it using the method setIndenting(true) on the OutputFormat class. The following is an example:
    assuming xmlDoc is our document and fileName is the name of the file we wish to write to:
    OutputFormat format = new OutputFormat(xmlDoc);
    // setup output file name
    PrintWriter printwriter = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(fileName, false));
    // construct an XMLSerializer for writing the document
    XMLSerializer serializer = new XMLSerializer( printwriter, format );
    // Ensure output is indented correctly...
    format.setIndenting(true);
    // set serializer as a DOM Serializer
    serializer.asDOMSerializer();
    // serialize the document
    serializer.serialize(xmlDoc);
    hope this helps!

  • String into date format

    Hi
    I was wondering if anyone knew how to convert a string into different formats,
    to enable it to be stored in a mysql db.
    I was wondering anyone you knew how to convert:
    - String into the date format yyyy-mm--dd
    - String into time format 00:00:00
    - string to double
    Ive tried:
    c_date = java.sql.Date.valueOf(f_date);
    System.out.println("conversion data: " +c_date);
    c_time = java.sql.Time.valueOf(f_time);
    System.out.println(" time converted data: "+c_time);
    // string to double conversion
    c_change = java.lang.Double.valueOf(f_change);
    System.out.println(c_change);
    My class doesnt execute this at all?
    Also,

  • Formatting a timestamp into string with $ specifier

    Formatting a timestamp into string with $ specifier does not work; the formatted string is empty and no error is reported:
    I have forced the width to 10 to show that the format is at least partially scanned but when it is omitted the timestamp field is empty.
    I couldn't find this problem reported/addressed so here it is (LabVIEW 8.6)
    LabVIEW, C'est LabVIEW

    Yes, the simple work around is to put the timestamp first in both the string and the inputs.  But this is a bug.  There is no doubt about that.  A high priority?  Probably not.  Something that should be looked for when doing a revamp of the Format String?  Yep.

  • Convert XML string into an abap format date and time

    Hi,
    Does anyone know of a method or a function module in ABAP which converts XML string into an abap format date and time.
    Here is a part of the xml that I want to convert.
    <ns2:EventDateTime>2009-07-02T10:13:45+10:00</ns2:EventDateTime>
    <ns2:EventMessageTransmissionDateTime>2009-07-02T10:13:45.987+10:00</ns2:EventMessageTransmissionDateTime>
    Currently EventDateTime and EventMessageTransmissionDateTime are type XSDDATETIME_Z and these are converted to proper dates and times. We will be changing these fields to a STRING instead of XSDDATETIME_Z. The reason for this is to make the field more versatile. The customer would be receiving dates with Zulu (2009-09-23T12:00:00Z), with offsets (2009-09-23T12:00:00+10:00/-10:00) and just local timestamp (2009-09-23T12:00:00). With this, we need to make the date fields as string
    to be able to accept the various date formats (esp. the local timestamp).
    I am looking for a standard function module or method that will convert the xml string to a proper date and time abap format.
    Would appreciate anyone's help!
    Thanks.

  • Formatting Variable into Currency Format INSIDE script

    Hello,
    I was wondering if someone could give me insight on why I'm running into some problems.
    So, in my script, I'm trying to display my [decimal]$Variable into currency format ( $x.xx )
    By looking around online, I found two different ways;
    "{0:C2}" -f $Variable will create the appropriate output in my open shell
    $Variable.ToString("c") will also work in my shell.
    Now my only problem is that despite numerous attempts and quadrouple checking that I typed it into the ISE properly, I can't for the life of me get it to display properly in my script.
    I even just tried saving the output into a variable before I put it into my write-host line.
    Does anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks, Phil

    $TaxPayable.ToString("c") | Set-Variable -Name $TaxInCurrency
    $TotalCost.ToString("c") | Set-Variable -Name $TotalCostInCurrency
    ##########################Display the $TaxPayable and $TotalCost to the user###################################
      Write-Host "The Tax for the Book is $TaxInCurrency, making the total cost $TotalCostInCurrency"
    This is my latest attempt to make it work. Sorry about the initial lack of information

  • Passing a string into an SQL query IN statement

    Hello,
    I need to connect to a database to pull some data to dynamically create a form based on the data I pull back. My SQL query works fine when I manually run it through a SQL client tool, but when I try to pass it through my workflow I'm having trouble with passing my string into the IN part of the statement. So if for example my SQL query is:
    SELECT Field1, Field2, Field3 FROM Table1 WHERE Field4 IN (?)
    I have a process variable that has the string I'm trying to pass into the ?, but I don't seem to be able to get the query to run. I have tried setting up my query to run as a Parameterized Query (passing my string process variable into the ?), and by setting the query up through xPath (where I am calling my process variable with an xPath declaration), but am not having any luck.
    The process variable I am trying to pass is formatted such that I'm passing 'Value1','Value2','Value3' but I can reformat this string if need be. Even with using test data I can't get the query to return anything. For test data I have tried: 'Value1','Value2','Value3' ; Value1','Value2','Value3 ; Value1,Value2,Value3 but the query never returns any data. I can't seem to see how to format the string to pass into the query. The Query will work with a single Value in the test data, but as soon as I try to pass multiple values within the string it fails. Any suggestions?

    The problem looks to be a limit on what I can pass into the SQL query component. My string is coming from data returned from another database. I take the xml output from that database call, pass it through a set variable component to remove my xml tags from the string, and then format the string in a script component (I have to do it this way because of the way the data coming out of my first database call). I've put in loggers, and can see that the string I'm passing into my query that is giving me problems, is formatted the same way as if I were to use the concat function Scott listed above. It looks like there is a limitation on what can be passed in my variable. I have tried creating my entire SQL query statement in a set variable component, and then just calling the process variable that holds that statement, but there is a character limit of 128 character for what can be passed in a variable through xpath in the SQL query component.
    The next thing I tried was changing my SQL where clause. Instead of passing my variable directly into the IN statement I set up a PATINDEX('%:'+countyname+ ':%', ?) > 0 call to check for the values in my database call. As you can see I took out the "," that I was passing as part of my string, thinking that the SQL component was getting confused by them, and placed ":" characters around my values being passed in my string variable. No matter what I try to do though I'm not able to get the query to run. The component looks like it is taking my string, and is seeing the whole thing as a string instead of passing it as individual values within a string.
    I think I'm getting close, but I keep getting a Content not allowed in prolog exception in the server logs.

  • Conversion of string into date????????????

    Can anyone tell how to convert a String into date??
    if the string is in the format "Thu Mar 25 17:11:34 GMT+05:30 2004"
    i have converted it. code is
    SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("EEE MMM d yyyy HH:mm:ss");
         dateFormat.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT+00:00"));
    Date date = null;
    try
              //date = dateFormat.parse(new Date().toString());
              date = dateFormat.parse(dateLine);
         catch(ParseException ex)
    but i am not able to specify the year.
    so when i getYear on the new Date it return 1970.

    @duffymo, I'm pretty sure "d" is good for a two digit date, "dd" gives you zero-padding.
    The problem, presumably, is that the format string "EEE MMM d yyyy HH:mm:ss" does not match the actual format "Thu Mar 25 17:11:34 GMT+05:30 2004".
    The correct format string would be "EEE MMM d HH:mm:ss z yyyy"

  • How to convert the text field into currency field

    Hi,
    I have an requirement to converting the text field into currency.
    If I convert directly it gives dump.
    If I convert this to Numeric means it takes the decimals also as whole value.
    Is there any FM to convert the text field into Currency field.
    Please advice me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I am on an SRM sytem, which unfortunately does not have th FM: PSSV_TEXT_INTO_FIELD_CURRENCY.
    But I also need to transfer a string value like '12,99' to a field with type curr.
    Can i Do that manually, or is there another FM?
    I have already checked code with write to or pack/unpack.
    But without success yet.
    Something like this:
    DATA: g_str(11) type c.
    DATA: g_p type p.
    WRITE '12,99' TO g_str CURRENCY 'EUR'.
    is no use for me. Finally I need to move g_str to my curr-field, which causes st22.
    also: PACK g_str to <curr-field or g_p> dumps.
    Help appreciated.
    regards, matthias

    I was on this site searching for an answer to my problem, and you provided the solution for me with your response to the above.  However, my problem was a bit different.  I needed a way to format a 9-digit number string into a standard Social Security number format.  I used your formula from above, and WOW - it worked!  If I could award you double Forum Points, I would.  But, since I can't do that, I will just say thanks, and ask God to bless you profusely.
