Forms and Binary data

Is there a way to input or output data in binary format using Forms 10g?
Is this possible natively or must I use a bean?

You an upload files directly into the database, would that suffice?

  • Fax / E-mail text and binary data

    Hi all,
    We have an existing Forte application which sends Fax / E-mail delivery
    confirmation to users.
    We have a new requirement to include a binary signature image in the
    delivery confimation.
    The existing code package the data as Textdata.
    A sample of the code is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you and have a great day.

    Is there a reason that you are using BufferedReader? 'cause, if I were you I wouldn't. It's geared toward text data, not binary data. I would look into some flavor of InputStream or possibly a FileChannel with some clever way to use the ByteBuffer.

  • BufferedReader with both text and binary data

    I'm reading ascii data from a socket using the read(char[] cbuf, int off, int len) method for a BufferedReader. This data contains a mixture of text to be parsed and data for an image. The messege is of variable length and the text fields are delimited by markers such as "FOO" or "BAR". I have initialized the BufferedReader in two seperate ways. First is: new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(iplCommSocket.getInputStream()));
    The second is : new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(iplCommSocket.getInputStream(),"8859_1"));
    If I use the first, I don't think I am getting the data correctly, if I use the second, the string ( creating a new String(char[]) )I get back from the read operation has the text after the binary data clobbered. I've tried converting the char[] to a byte[] and then creating a new String with the byte array using the "8859_1" character encoding to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated

  • How to read a file with both text and binary data?

    For text data I use a BufferedReader,
    for binary data I use a DataInputStream.
    Since readLine is deprecated in DataInputStream, how can I read in a proper way a file that contains some lines of text followed by some binary data.
    Is there a way to do this without writing a new 'readLine' for DataInputStream (that has to take into account the different newlines for Unix en other OS's)?

    sorry about that ^
    NEW STRING str
    WHILE there is stuff in the file DO
        getByte()
        IF reading a string THEN
            WHILE byte is not a return character DO
                convert the byte to character/string
                append char to str
            WEND
        ELSE IF reading raw data THEN
            parse raw data
            do stuff with it
        END IF

  • Open system form and update data

    Hi
    any body can help me with the code to do the following?
    open users form with current user, update the default group and save the record and close the form.

    Andrea,
    To Do? Clicking on a Button on Sales Order -> Opens a PO form, and selects the row?
    In the eventhandler of a button click if the PO is not linked to SO by SAP B1 standard functionality
    step 1. call ActivateMenu ("2305") of Sbo_application , this opens the PO form
    step 2. Change the form to Find mode
    step 3. enter po number to the Item UID "8" which is the document number.
    step 4. Send enter key, or Clikc On button UID "1" which finds the PO
    step 5.read the value from SO form, from matrix "38" line where you selected
    step 6. use the code above to locate the line in PO (use # column for position numbers which UID is 0)
    at step 5, i think you should select a line from SO matrix which you would like to open.
    IN sales order, If you used PO chekcbox on logistics tab to create the PO, you can find a direct link between PO and SO (only in docentries are linked not positions) on sales order,  Column UID 158 field name: potrgnum.  If this connection is exists, you have an easy way:
    SO form, when a user clicks on COlumn 158 (po number), you can implement an eventhandler, which
    step 1.read the value from SO form, from matrix "38" line where you selected
    step 2. use the code above to locate the line in PO (use # column for position numbers which UID is 0)
    By processing theses steps, you can build up you solution.

  • Smart forms and global data

    are parameters defined in global data in smart forms unavailable in form routines to be used
    I am working on lbbil_invoice std smart form for invoices and trying to use gs_it_gen type lbbil_it_gen that is been defined in global data. Will I have to define another wa of the same type in my sub routine ?

    I am working on a smart form right now
    I define in global data
    gv_fabrictext type char64
    gv_fabriccode type mara-j3afcc
    then in my form routines i create a sub routine
    FORM fcc_values USING gv_fabrictext.
    and making computations to calculate gv_fabrictext
    then i use a program code and call perform fcc_values using gv_fabrictext with gv_fabrictext as input and output parameters
    Is this correct? Why do I have to define gv_fabriccode type mara-j3afcc  in the form routine even though its been defined in global data

  • SQL*Loader and binary data

    i have a C routine that builds SQL*Loader input files. the input files contain multiple records, with a couple of integer columns and a raw(1400) field. the control file specifies a record separator of '|', which seems weird (having text in the middle of raw data) but also is somewhat co-operative (see below).
    so i basically write each integer to the file, then a short (2-byte) length value for the raw field, then the raw field. then the '|' separator.
    i've noticed that if the size of raw field is 400 bytes or less, everything works fine, i get the correct number of records in the database.
    unfortunately, with a size of 401 or more, SQL*Loader parses the thing into twice as many records as it should. so if i've written 3 records to my input data file, with each record's raw field at 400 bytes or less i get 3 records loaded. but any with a raw field of 401+, i get two records for each.
    any ideas why? and how to correct this? also, any ideas on a better way to do this? all the examples of large data in the online doc and the o'reilly book favor showing examples with large character data, which does me not much good.

  • Confusion regarding Binary data and byte arrays

    HI guys,
    I have a question...i am going to send some binary data...the format of that data is that first two bytes is the lenght of the data and then follows that data. Here i have one confusion. e.g. i want to say that the lenght of my data is 1000 bytes. How do i do it.
    coz if i do something like this.
    int k = 1000;//the length of my data
    String binaryString = Integer.toBinaryString(k);
    byte[] binaryData = binaryString.getBytes();
    and then if i say binaryData.lenght, i see a lenght of 10, as the binary string which
    is generated is -> 1111101000. i guess its obivious as this byte array is nothing but perhaps a character array with each character occupying one thread...so what exactly is the difference between byte array and binary data. and in the above said condition how do i send the binary data?
    Also adding to my confusion is the fact that i have a file which contains binary data, but that data is not 10010101 type of data...its just some absurd characters. How do we explain this.
    i would be highly grateful if you could explain me the solution to this problem.
    I am not getting as to how to go about it.
    its urgent..pls help...

    one sec..actually i dont want to 'read' the two bytes. That i know how to do? but The thing is that i want to write a binary stream. right? so in that the first two bytes should be the size of the data, followed by the data itself. So i want to write the first two bytes, which should contain the size of data (as a matter of fact i have that binary data in a byte array). But my question is , that if i say the size of data is 1000 (bytes , since, as i said i am gettting the data as a byte array), how do i write this in my binary stream as 1000 in this case would be an int. right? which is four bytes. So essentially that byte array (which contains binary data) i have to forward to somewhere, say X , but X reads binary data in the following way...it expects the first two bytes to give him info regarding the size of the data to follow and then it starts reading the data from the third byte onwards till the size of the data (which it got by reading first two bytes)...i hope i could communicate my confusion better this time

  • How to extract binary data from a File?

    Hello there!
    Hope I'm right here.
    I have a slight problem with a file containing text- and binary-data. At the beginning of the file is only some text followed by some html-code and at the end is some binary stuff like a pdf oder an image (jpg/gif).
    My problem is now how to split these parts and save them in the suitable format. The text and the html are no problem, but I don't know how to extract the binary data. I tried it out with an Inputstream, but I don't know how to find the exact position where the binary data begins.
    Anyone have an idea how I can solve this?
    Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

    I don't believe a bullet-proof solution exists.
    If you know where the HTML ends, you may skip whitespace and then assume the rest is binary data. Or, if you know the first bytes of the binary data, you may locate those. With either of these solutions, though, you risk coming across a file where it doesn't work as expected, for example if the first byte of the binary data happens to match a whitespace character.

  • Download file problem for binary data?

    Dear All,
    I have wrote a jsp file to do download page. I have used a piece of code from the JDC to this. This code will prompt the download dialog box each time user clicks the download button. The code itself will set the content type for different application. The code is like below:
    try
    java.io.File fileobj = new java.io.File(strFolder + strFile);
    response.setContentType(application.getMimeType(fileobj.getName()));
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=\""
    + strFile + "\"");
    java.io.FileInputStream in = new java.io.FileInputStream(fileobj);
    int ch;
    while ((ch = in.read()) != -1) {
    out.write(ch);
    out.flush();
    in.close();
    } catch(Exception e)
    The code can download and handle text file correctly when it is openned in the text editor or inside the IE. But when a PDF file or Image is downloaded and openned in the PDF viewer or image viewer, it is corrupted and cannot be viewed. What is the problem? Any ideas?
    So, I wonder this code can handle binary data or not. It is seen like there is no different code to handle text and binary data in Java/Jsp.
    Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,
    Rockyu Lee

    Add following lines to .tld file (custom tag definition)
    <tag>
    <name>downloadbinary</name>
    <tagclass>org.rampally.DownloadBinaryTag</tagclass>
    <bodycontent>JSP</bodycontent>
    </tag>
    Add following line to JSP files.
    In JSP, keep one line of source. Make sure that there are no space and additional line feeds at the any where
    in the JSP files except JSP tags.
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/taglibs/mb.tld" prefix="mytags" %>
    <mytags:downloadbinary />
    I am hoping that you have all required parameters such as fileName to download, etc.
    in your session or request object.
    Tag class ....
    public class DownloadBinaryTag extends TagSupport {
         public int doEndTag() throws JspException {
              // TODO: get binary data from filename or
              // binary data buffer from datase.
              // I am making it simple .. assume that it is a request parameter for
              // you test easily.
              String fileName = request.getParameter( "filename" );
              java.io.File file = new java.io.File( fileName);
              java.io.DataInputStream dis;
              try {
                   dis = new java.io.DataInputStream(new FileInputStream(fileName));
              } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                   // do error handling ...
                   return EVAL_PAGE;
              BinaryUtil.sendBinaryFile( dis, (HttpServletResponse) pageContext.getResponse(), contentType );
              return EVAL_PAGE;
    public class BinaryUtil
         static public void sendBinaryFile( DataInputStream dis,
                                  HttpServletResponse response,
                                  String contentType ) {
              try {
                   response.setContentType(contentType);
                   String fileName="test.pdf";
                   response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "inline; filename=" + newFileName );
                   ServletOutputStream sout = response.getOutputStream();
                   int len;
                   byte[] data = new byte[128 * 1024];
                   while ((len = dis.read(data, 0, 128 * 1024)) >= 0)
                        sout.write(data, 0, len);
                   sout.flush();
                   sout.close();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println(e.getMessage());
         static public void sendBinaryFile( byte[] data,
                                  HttpServletResponse response,
                                  String contentType ) {
              try {
                   response.setContentType(contentType);
                   String fileName="test.pdf";
                   response.setHeader("Content-disposition", "inline; filename=" + newFileName );
                   ServletOutputStream sout = response.getOutputStream();
                   sout.write(data);
                   sout.flush();
                   sout.close();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    You may have to change 'inline' to 'attachment' if you do not want IE to inline the document.
    That's all!!.. Hope this helps...!
