Forms break WYSIWYG in design view

Hi!
I'm currently working with many forms, and I place those forms with  CSS absolute positioning. The problem is that in the desing view (where  the wysiwyg preview is shown) forms cause little symbols to appear  inside the div and they offset the position of the divs.In other words  the position of the divs appears different in dreamweaver than in the  browsers.
Is there a way to turn those "form symbols" off from the preview so that the div placement is the same in the preview and in the browser?
I have attached and image of the issue!

View > Visual Aids. Deselect Invisible Elements.
You can also control which invisible elements Dreamweaver displays by default by accessing the Preferences panel (Edit menu on Windows, Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and selecting the Invisible Elements category.

  • What is it about this markup that breaks DW CS3 Design View Editing?

    Folks:
I'm attaching very simple --and apparently completely valid-- markup that generates the text shown between the markers below:
    ------------start----------------
yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda badda.
    ------------end----------------
As you can see by examining the file, it contains only an span enclosing text and spaces, and some following breaks.  This file passes DW validation: no errors or warnings.
If I open this file in DW CS3 Design View, select and delete the last word, "badda", the entire text --every "yadda"--  is also deleted.  All that text is really gone -- if I immediately save the file and re-open it, there is no text content at all, just the span pair,  spaces, and the trailing breaks.  This is completely repeatable.
When you edit this file, do you get the same result?
The attached file is a cut-down, simplified version of a production file that exhibits this issue. (That file also passes validation.)   When I delete single  words,  entire content paragraphs disappear.   So this is not just a point of curiosity.  I need to figure out how to fix the production code and avoid this problem in the future.
What is it about the attached markup that causes this issue?  I've fooled around with this code quite a bit and the best I can figure out is that DW is confused when both the start- and end- span tags are followed immediately by a line break.  Inserting a space in either place makes the issue go away.   But the production code doesn't have any occurances of this pattern. And, anyway, line-breaks have no significance to html, just for source-code formatting, right?
Am I missing something incredibly obvious?
    TIA
    hen3ry

    Nancy O:
Thank you for your response, which gave me  valuable clues to understanding the issues.   (Specifically, it led me to re-read and understand better the nitty-gritty of the HTML4 specs,  section 7, "The global structure of an HTML Document", especially 7.5.1 The BODY element.)
I believe you are saying --in sum--  that to be reliably edited in DW, each source file must comprise a syntactically correct and complete HTML Document.
I am attaching a second file, "badcode2.html", modified substantially as you suggest.  It passes the DW validator, the validator.w3.org test, and the www.totalvalidator.com test.    No errors or warnings.
I do this:   Launch DW, open this file, choose Design View if necessary, select the final word of text, "badda", and activate Edit-->Cut (or Delete).   As before, all the other text is deleted as well. This is repeatable.
It seems to me this sample code satisfies your general principle.  Could I be misapplying the three validation tests?  Or that passing these tests does not assure the document  is syntactically correct and complete?   Can you recommend other tests?
I'd like to add the following two points as a matter of background and a bit of niggling:
--I'm aware  that complete HTML pages must contain <html> , <head>,  and <body> tags, although the HTML4 specification seems to say <body> tags are optional.   All my production pages, as served, contain these tags.   My underlying design is a php template with individual content files incorporated by inclusion.   There may be only one set of <html> , <head>,  and <body> in  a  page. The  "outer" template code provides these tags, and individual content files cannot contain a nested set -- so they must be "bare" markup.   Is DW able to support this design, in which "bare markup" files are seemingly unavoidable?    Is there a mechanism analogous to DW Design-Time Style Sheets to provide virtual existence of these tags so "bare markup" files can be successfully edited?  I've looked for such a mechanism but not found one.    Or some completely different method?
--You specify the inclusion of <p> or <h1> tags within the  body.    Is there some special significance of <p> or <h1>  with respect to stable editing in DW?  My reading of the HTML4 spec indicates that a single block element is the minimal requirement for body content. Either of these tags qualify, right?   But so does <div>, and that's what I use in my current example.    Am I misunderstanding something?
Bottom line,  I'm looking for a pragmatic solution for my problem:   Once in a while, among hundreds of  structurally similar "bare markup" pages I edit in DW without any problem,  I lose data.   If inserting an additional tag into all my content include files eliminates these occasional problems, I'm  willing to do that, as long as:  (1) There is an arguable technical basis for the addition,  (2) the added tag does not  produce anything visible on the served page, and (3) the validators don't flag the extra tag.
    Suggestions, please!
    Thanks,
    hen3ry

My form has just disappeared from 'design view' but if i hit 'live view' it re-appears, the code is all there i just cant view it?

Its because your table code is broken. I had a job this morning wading through it so I eventually selected just the from part - <form>    </form> - which I believe is intact and dumped it in another DW file.
If you can't find the broken or missing tag/s can I suggest you do this and rebuild the outer table.

  • Help - all data fields in all my forms are locked in design view

Working in LiveCycle Designer ES2 v.9 -  I have 10 forms that I've designed for my client. I opened them this morning to edit the design and all the data fields are locked. In the Hierarchy tab, the names are greyed out. I haven't done anything to the forms since saving last night. Some of the forms are really complex and and no way do I want to recreate them. I tried saving with a different name but that doesn't work either. NB. The forms work OK when opened in Acrobat (for filling). It's just the design edits in LiveCycle that I can't do, now.

Thanks. I figured out that I had inadvertently clicked on (enabled) Lock Fields. It took awhile as when that is turned on, the menu item doesn't show that you've turned it on e.g. no check mark or default to "Unlock Fields". If it changed to "Unlock Fields",  I wouldn't have spent so much time trying to figure out what happened:o).
Something the LiveCycle team may want to change in that menu.

  • In Design View horizontal pages are cut off to portrait dimensions. How to fix this?

I am trying to  edit a form in livecycle designers "Design View" mode. Some pages are horizontal but they are displayed all in portrait mode, cutting off the right side of these horizontal pages so i can not see or edit them. Is there some way to fix it so I can see all of the page on these hoirzontal pages?

  • Design View Fails To Render Some Pages Correctly.

Dreamweaver appears to have problems rendering some CSS in
    Design View. Here
are links to an HTML page and a style sheet, both of which
    appear to be
valid, but the page "breaks" in the Design View of both DW8

Who here has EVER said that? Nobody. This is your spin on our
    comments.
If the page is not rendering correctly, it is a good practice
    to start with
validation. If there are structural errors in the page, that
    will find
them. You can then eliminate such considerations from your
    troubleshooting
    efforts.

  • Command Button colors corrupt after switching back and forth from design view.

I would say my experience level with Access is "getting there."
    I therefore don't thing I'm making a newbish mistake.
Has anyone else noticed this?  As it's bugging me quite badly.
    1.  A command button has had it's color formatted (pressed, hover, etc. nothing fancy)
    2.  It works fine.
    3.  In my navigation form, if I switch to design view, then select a given sub-form... like "customers" - and switch back out of design view, to form view - then without fail, all customized command buttons within that sub forms' color will 'corrupt'
    ie, change.
    4. Closing and reopening the navigation form (ie, my main menu) restores it, but the same thing will happen should I go back to design view for the sub form.
    5.  Finally - this behaviour does not happen when switching back and forth between views on the original form that isn't a sub form in the navigation form.  (Ie,. the main 'customers' form).
Can any clever folk give me a solution? :(
    Thanks,

EDIT - My apologies, I am using Access 2013 for a desktop database.

    1) We will need to understand whether the issue is seen on any sample database.
    2) IS this seen only on your system, we would need to check on other system also
    3) If the issue is seen in all system & issue is not seen in the sample database then this could be database specific issue
    4) As per my understanding the issue is consistent, we would need to find what is the VBA code or which code is used while designing this form.
    5) We would need to see if the issue is seen only on that particular navigation form?
    6) Is the button gets corrupt I mean to say non-usable once it get discolored ?
    7) What is your end goal just in case if you are able to work on your database i.e. when working on the navigation form without going in design view is issue still seen there ?
    8) Since when are you experiencing this issue ?
    9) If possible please provide me the environment details of your system & Access application, whether the issue is seen only in access 2010 can we check in access 2007 or in access 2013.
I would really appreciate if you can answers the above questions this will really help us to isolate the issue further
in terms of technical troubleshooting after answering the above question I might come up with another question so that we can do extensive isolating the issue so the if required we can involve the developer also.

  • Floated element breaks Design view in Dreamweaver CS3

I've tried searching for this issue but haven't found a fix yet and could use some help.
I am redesigning a site and am adding a fluid box to the page. This floated element breaks Design View in Dreamweaver CS3 but appears correctly in the Firefox, Chrome, and IE.  I can get the element to appear correctly in Design View after I make minor changes to the page's HTML or CSS, however it always breaks when I save the file.
I've tried many work-arounds including adding an absoutely defined container div, altering the various div sizes, adding <div class="clear"> before and after the element, to no avail.
Ideally, I would like to have page appear correctly in Design View so that others in my lab can easily update the page (and not come to me with repeated questions!).
I've included screen prints of how it looks in Design View and how it look in Chrome.
    THANKS! J
    Design Time error:
    Web Browser - correct view:

I'll try CS4; however my main reason for finding a fix is so that others updating the page (w/ CS3) will be able to do so w/ the WYSIWYG editor that we purchased. We will not be upgrading to CS4 anytime soon either.
    Thanks

  • Access 2010 on 64 Bit Windows 7 Access "Not Responding" when changing from forms view to design view and back

    I am running
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Access 2010 32 bit
Developing an application with a split FE BE with both files local but continue to have the message "Not Responding" when switching from forms view to design view and back as well as if I try to connect to a subform or object on the sub form.

I have seen this behavior when the form's RecordSource is a complex query such as a crosstab or a query with several nested queries. To test if this is your case, remove the RecordSource and see if the form starts acting normal again.
Then again, if the form has several subforms they might be slowing up the loading time.

  • Why cant DW CS5.5 show html5's new elements in the wysiwyg design view?

Why cant DW CS5.5 show html5's new elements in the wysiwyg design view?
I created a <section> and an <aside> in code view, and styled those elements in my CSS, but it doesnt show anything in design view!
    why not?
    Its annoying.
    CS5.5 is Adobe's spring 2011 release.
Why is it not up to speed??
    Isnt html5 very 2009-2010ish?
Is there an add-on i can install?
    thanks.

Well we are all "getting up to speed" with HTML5 because, as it stands, it is still not a standard.
As to styling in CS4 vs CS5.5, Dreamweaver is an engine that assists in making good HTML code. It's agnostic. If you don't close your tags properly in CS 5.5 and then open the same document in CS4, it will notice that you did not close your tags properly.
Adobe makes plugins that will allow CS4 to do code hinting properly with HTML5 selectors and CSS3, assuming the document is peroperly defined as an HTML5 document.
Here is the beginning of one of my most recent HTML5 documents:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Page Title Goes Here</title>
    <link href="css/normal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all">
    <link href="css/navigation.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all">
<!-- include CSS before the Shiv -->
    <!--[if lt IE 9]>
    <script src="//html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
    This works.

I just tried the new forms in Muse.

    Hi ePocket,
It looks like you've found a bug that we missed, I've added it to our database.
It seems to be caused by the use of a System Font in the submit button. To get around this, use a font that is not in the System font category.
    Sorry for the inconvenience

  • CS3 will not show CSS3 and HTML5 in WYSIWYG "design view"?

So, just got a mobile site template that is CSS3 and HTML5. When I open it to work on it in Dreamweaver CS3, the CSS is not displayed in the "design view" but yet, when you preview in browser, all is perfect. In the WYSIWYG design view, I see the content, but styling is missing. Preview in browser, it is all there.
Is this just a limitation in the CS3 WYSIWYG design view function and I am out of luck? Is there a "fix" - other than a costly upgrade - for it in CS3?

Dreamweaver's design view isn't perfect WYSIWYG even for CSS2.1.  Also, I believe you are using a very old DW (CS3) so you are definitely out of luck.  Have you tried using the trial version of CS 5.5?  It is worth a try but I am not recommending you to buy it now because CS6 is expected to  be released in the second half of this year if not before.
Please note DW isn't a WYSIWYG editor so I won't rely on it at all.  Always view your page in the two main browsers - FF and IE8/IE9
    Good luck.

  • Multi page report in design view and page breaks

    Hey,
I have designed a report that spans more then a single 8X11 page in design view. The report has one parent frame and 2 child frames. The parent data prints first and then there is a page break before each child's data. The trouble I am having is that where the report is designed over 2 pages in design view the first child's data prints on the 3rd page because of the page break, and then if there is another child it will start to print on the 5th page, etc. Another problem is with the actual page numbering and that page 1 according to the print out actually is 2 pages because of the 2 page design view. I am looking for a way to design a report on 2 pages in design view but have it to print on only 1 page per parent and child depending on how much data there is. If I could fit all of the data elements on a single page in design view it would be easy, but using 2 pages is making it difficult.
Does this make sense? Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Try doing the page break by setting the Page Protect property to Yes, not by Page Break before/after.

  • Problem getting to second page of an existing form within Design View

Hello, I am having a problem adjusting data within a preeixsting form.  I can see all the pages of the form in the hierarchy section and within XML.  However, I do not know how to appropriately adjust the coding in XML and want to adjust in the design view.  I just don't know how to get past the first page of the data.
I figure this is a simple issue; however, I could not find assistance in the help documents.  Additionally, I have called the customer service number and spoken with technical support and have not had any assistance.  When I called on Monday I waited on hold for 8 hours and finally hung up.  I called on Tuesday and got an operator who told me that I would receive a call back within 4 hours.  Again, I waited at my desk for 4 hours and no call back.  At 4 hours and 50 minutes I got a call back, but had to arrange for another time to speak due to meetings.  I was told I would receive a call back during a 4 hour window yesterday and did not receive a call back.
I called this morning and spoke with an operator who promised me a call back within a 2 hour time slot and again, no call back.
Very poor customer service!  I also spoke with the technical "help" online and they were not helpful either!

it could be to do with masterpages and the way the pagination is set up. Have a look at your pages in the heirarchy and if they are masterpages you need to have set the pagination for those pages at minimum 1 page each so they will show up.
