Forms deployment from an icon to executing a form

I'd love to have the knowledge of what is necessary to execute a form, starting from a windows icon/shortcut on the desktop. It's easy enough to execute the form from forms builder, but I'd like to setup an end user's route. I'm curious whether you need the application server installed, where/when the login process takes place, and anything else involved. Thanks!

Mike,
if you are talking about Oracle9i Forms and above, then you must have an application server to run the application.
The Forms Developer building environment comes with an integrated HTTP server that is used for testing applications, thus not requiring an Application server. Unfortunately the Oracle Developer Suite is certified for development and testing only and not meant to provide client-server support.
Generally and to answer your question, starting an application from an icon on the desktop only requires you to create a shortcut for the browser (e.g. IE) and then add the Forms application URL to it.
e.g. internetexplorer http://server:port/forms90/f90servlet?config=myapp

  • Can't Execute JAR file deployed from JDev 903

    Hi Everyone:
I took the Oracle beginning Java class, and got a copy of JDeveloper 9, and started in on a project. The task was to create a small module that will allow users with no direct SQL access to change their Oracle passwords. The good news is that it runs great from within JDev; it catches exceptions cleanly, it handles multiple databases with no problems. The bad news is that I cannot get it to run from a batch file or command line (client is Windows). I have run 'setvars', I have copied the CLASSPATH from the run window in JDev, all to no avail.
I am trying to deploy the app as an executable jar file. It's not meant to be an applet, because of the security implications.
I would gladly RTFM, but the FM's that I have gloss over the deployment step in Jdev. I figure it's something obvious, but I just cannot figure it out.
    Any suggestions? Help a newbie...
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
I suggest you take a look at the log window of JDev, when you've successfully run your project.
If the log window is not displayed, go to View | Log.
Cut the command line, invoking javaw.exe, and paste it into your favorite editor.
Change javaw.exe into java.exe, save your file as a bat file, go in a DOS console, and run the bat file.
Let me know if it fixes your problem.
    Thanks,
    - Olivier

It looks like it's not picking up the datasource yet it works fine via the local oc4j. From my understanding the datasource is picked up from the connections in Jdeveloper but i've tried adding a datasource.xml to my "Model" tier within the "META-INF" folder but the error is still being generated.
I've amended the J2SE version to 1.4.2_02 on both the ViewController and Model project properties as recommended within the Jdev 10.1.3.4 documentation. I've also just read the following but i'm not sure how relevant it is as the error seems to be that it can't find a datasource not that the password is not being read.
"Data-Sources Password Handling and Application Server 10.1.2
It is important to note that deploying an application that uses connections defined in data-sources.xml developed using JDeveloper 10.1.3 that is deployed to Application Server 10.1.2 will result in a deployment failure. One example would be an application that uses an EJB to connect to a database. This is due to differences in the way Application Server 10.1.3 and Application Server 10.1.2 interpret password indirection. We are expecting a patch for Application Server 10.1.2 to be made available that will allow deployment of these types of applications to Application Server 10.1.2."
I imported the project datasource files from my old project that were developed in Jdev 10.2.3 rather then creating the connection via Jdev 10.1.3.4 but this still hasn't cleared the error.
I've spent a few days on this so far so any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

"Not really. You can exclude the data-sources.xml from the EAR file and rely on the setup of the Global Datasource, created before deployment.
    --olaf"
Thanks. Yes I did try this but when I setup the datasource via the datasources tab within the console I still received the error. This may have been due to an error on my part but I can't be sure as i've tried all sorts of different approaches over the last few days. I initially didn't have a datasource.xml so there wasn't one to exclude (via the deploy properties in Jdev) I had relied on Jdeveloper to setup the datasource via my connections. I read somewhere that Jdev does this fduring deploy and indeed it works fine for my embedded oc4j and when deplolying from Jdeveloper 10.1.2 so it would seem odd that the same approach doesn't work for Jdeveloper 10.1.3.
Surely the release notes regarding the password issue is the reason why I can't deploy from Jdev 10.1.3.4 to app server 10.1.2?
The release notes say that a patch is due to fix the issue with password indirection, Olaf do you know where I can get this?
Also how do I setup Jdev not to write the datasources during deployment? If I don't have a datasources.xml then there is nothiing to exclude. Is there a setting somewhere in Jdev 10.1.3.4?

  • SDM Error while deploying from IDE

Hi I am getting an error while deploying from IDE.
-- Server XXX did not accept login request as admin on port 50018.Details: ERROR: Could not establish connection to server XXX at port 50018: XXX
This problem has been discussed herein SDN earlier.I also checked in the SDM trouble shooting guide and accordingly have added a entry in the host file under sys32/drivers, but still I continue to get that error.Any pointers will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Muinul

    Hi
Have you ever been able to deploy into SDM. What is the password that you type. Try typing SDM and see. If that doesnt work then you will have to change the password of your SDM. Your password either has been corrupted or changed
    Anyway follow these steps
    1. Start the Config Tool.
               (Execute <SAPj2eeEngine_install_dir> \configtool\configtool.bat.)
    1. Select the secure store node.
The configuration for the secure storage in the file system appears.
    1. Select the admin/password/<SID> entry.
    2. Enter the administrator user's new password in the "Value" field and choose "Add".
    3. Choose "File" --> "Apply" to save the data.
Note: Contrary to the message that appears, you do not need to restart the server or cluster for this change to take effect.
    4. Finally restart SDM server.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you require more information
    regards
    Ravi

  • Remote deploys from Windows to Linux fail with deployment plans on WLS 10.0

    Hi there,
We're using WLS 10.0.1 running in a RHEL environment (actually CentOS release 4.7 for development), and attempting to perform remote deploys from Windows work stations using the weblogic.Deployer ant task.
It works fine when not using deployment plans, or when performing a remote deploy from a unix based work station such as a Mac. However, introducing a deployment plan causes a failure only when run from Windows.

Is this a bug? Is there anything we can do about it? The chances of us upgrading WLS are very remote unfortunately.
    Thanks in advance,

This is something you should definitely file an Oracle support ticket for. It's entirely possible there's a patch for this.

No, oc4j is included in oracle AS. But some older versions of oc4j produce errors when directly deploying from jdev.
Check if your AS contains oc4j version 9.0.2.0.0 if it is so, deployment should work fine. if not reinstall oc4j.
oc4j is not automatically installed during the oracle AS Installlation Process (at least when I tried it).
If theres no j2ee directory in your AS-home-directory, You should install it manually as descripted in the links in my posting.
Also You have to start it with "java -jar oc4j.jar"
    Then it should work fine.

  • BPEL process Deployment from DEV to PRD

    Hi,
I have a question on how to move deployment from one DEV to PRD. I have BPEL subprocess in my process and calling them WSDL. Every subprocess is exposed as webservice. When i move main process to PRD/QA, the main process points DEV WSDL. How to change the main process to point to subprocess.
Could you advise me how to deploy BPEL process form DEV to QA/PRD ?
    Thanks,

    Asuming you are using 10.1.2.0.2
When developing BPEL processes, make sure your partner-links to other BPEL processes are using the same host name. From JDeveloper it will use your workstation name. CHange this to "localhost". Furthermore JDeveloper is using 9700 as port number, whil ethe application server is using 7777. CHange the OC4J configuration of JDev that it will use port 7777 instead of 9700.
Now you can basicly deploy your BPEL processes to other environments. If you are using adapters make sure that the JNDI naming is implemented on all the environments, (oc4-ra.xml file).

  • Application Not Launching from Desktop Icon

With every new release our jars change from say jarA-release1.jar to jarA-release2.jar etc. We don't use any version based JNLP download, hence the new jars are downloaded based on the last modified date. When we move from release 1 to release 2, customers launch the application from Desktop icon and get the new jars downloaded. But when they logout and try to launch the application again from desktop, it fails because the desktop icon still references the old cache. Any suggestions please?

  • Running a java program from an icon

I want to run my program from an icon on my desktop. I have a .bat file that I've built a shortcut to and it works.MY GUI program does display and run when I click on the icon. The problem is that the DOS window also shows up behind my GUI.
Is there anyway to prevent the DOS window from showing? Or is there another way to run a Java program without resorting to a DOS command line or running it through FORTE or another IDD?

Chris's solution worked well, with one small problem. Once my GUI starts, it takes up the whole screen. Normally when I run it, it appears as a small window.
not a big problem, I can reduce it easily after it starts. But does anyone know a way to make it come up in the reduced size it norally comes up in when I run it from my IDE?

  • ASO can't deploy from EPMA after upgrade to 11.1.2.2

We are in the middle of the upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2, we have HFM and Essbase that deploy from EPMA. The following error is occuring on our ASO cubes:
Error : The value for property 'DataStorage' in member 'M_100000', dimension 'M_ACCOUNT' is invalid. The following are valid values for this property: LabelOnly, NeverShare, ShareData, StoreData.
This dimension is tagged as an Accounts dimension and consolidates with + and -. The option to change the data storage type on the parent members does not provide an options in the dropdown to change this type.
Any one else come across this before?

There seems to be a bug that [sometimes] won't turn on the backlight after suspending, doing anything that raises the brightness: unplugging & replugging power cable - depending on settings, using brightness keys - if set up, or setting it directly in /sys/class/backlight/ via a script/ssh/whatever should all work.
I posted a link to this problem because OP wasn't specific.
This is not related to the Broadcom 4313's wireless authentication issues, hence the word "also". Sorry for the confusion.

  • How to move an existing Application/Package Deployment from one collection to another

We'd like to move an Application Deployment from one collection of devices to another. Instead of just creating a new deployment (which would make the app try to reinstall) we'd like to move the existing deployment.
Any way to do this with PowerShell?

Creating a new deployment won't make an app try to reinstall at all. That's the whole point of the Detection method.
For packages, clients keep track of what they've run before so a new deployment won't cause it to run again unless the program is set for it to run again.
Ultimately, you cannot change the collection targeted by a deployment as this violates a f underlying assumptions and messes up compliance/reporting for that deployment. You need to create a new deployment which as pointed out has no down-side.

  • How can I call a LabVIEW executable from within another LabVIEW executable?

I have a customer requirement for two LabVIEW executables. Based on their current setup, they need to run executable "A" or "B", both of which are under independent revision control. I have created a third "selection" executable that allows the operator to choose between one of the two, but I am receiving errors when I attempt to call a LabVIEW executable from within a LabVIEW executable using either the "System exec" VI or the "Run Application" VI. If I call a non-LabVIEW executable (such as Windows Explorer) everything works fine.

As with the other poster, I suspect a path problem. You might try the
path out in a shell window, and if it works, copy the complete absolute
path to LV to see if that works. LV is basically passing the comma
    nd to
the OS and doesn't even know what is in it, so you should be able to get
    it to work.
The other poster commented on subpanels, which is a good suggestion, but
without going to LV7, an EXE can have open more than one VI. You can
use the VI Server and the Run method to fire up another top-level VI.
The decision is whether you want both to be in unique processes.
