Forms Runtime Version
Hello to all of you !
Our application runs with Forms 6i in only client/server mode (no web forms) on several ms windows platforms (W95, W2K, WNT).
Is there a way to get to know the runtime version which executes the current form ? I need this information because in our environment there might be forms runtime client installations with a different patchset level than the compiled fmx-files. This sometimes leads to some strange errors.
And please, it does not make sense to read the registry because in some environments the application is started within the Novell Application Launcher (NAL) which creates a runtime environment at the moment you start the application.

Just in case someone else wants to know about this : I read in Metalink that there is an undocumented command.
get_application_property(version) returns a varchar2 containing the runtime version of ifrun60.exe which is executing the current form.

Hi All,
When I try to run the WEBUTIL demo form from the application server and use the OLE to write to a word file, I get the below error in the java console and the form ceases to function after that. Any ideas?

How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
Solution
Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
[OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
[JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
cd [JacobStage]
copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
Open a DOS command prompt.
Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
Sign the files, and check the output for success:
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
you may skip this step. Otherwise,
Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
errors.
Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
@[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
-- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
grant execute on webutil_db to public;
5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
to the CLASSPATH entry.
6) Start the OC4J instance
7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
Note 303682.1
If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
8) Create a new FMB.
Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
NULL;
to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
show_webutil_information (TRUE);
in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
the "Application Server URL" is empty.
Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
10) Run your form.If its Correct/Helpful mark it thanks.

In a document from July 1997 from Oracle called "Developer/2000
and the NCA: An Architectural Overview", authors Mark Doran et
al, the future direction of the Forms Runtime was stated to be:
In a release after 2.0, the Forms Runtime will be implemented
as a cartridge. The Web Application Server will invoke a
Forms cartrige directly to run a Forms application, elim-
inating the ned for a separate Listener process and Runtime
processes. In this configuration, the Forms cartridge will
be able to exploit all of the functionality of the Web
Application Server, including Inter-Cartridge Exchange
(ICX) and dynamic load balancing.
Initially, each instance of the Cartridge will handle a single
connected user, just as the Forms Runtime does today, but
in later versions a single cartridge will be able to serve
multiple simultaneous users for even greater scalability.
I have two questions:
a) is this still the intended direction of the Forms Runtime?
(I couldn't find this repeated in later documents)
b) if so, which release will/does have this feature?
I have scoured all the promotional documentation for OAS 4.0
and Developer 6.0 looking for an answer, but could not find
any.
The reasons I care are that 1) our client will continue to grow,
and the scalability improvement is interesting, and 2) if
you can use Inter-Cartridge Exchange to (I think) access
real CORBA objects which live in a custom-built application
cartridge that lives in OAS 4.0. From Forms, you have to
use Forms-specific syntax to access functions, and you
can't access objects directly.

I've tested my application using Dev2.1 to find out that each
user was going to take up around 10M.
We have a user base of about 300, but usually theres only about
80 users on during our busiest time. 80Users * 10M = 800M.
Thats not even counting the memeory needed for the reports
server.
But to be fair OAS load balancing did cut down on apps which
were inactive.
But this still leaves me with the prospect of at least a 512M
apps server. Which might be incredibly slow during peak times.
So I started looking towards the OAS4.0 release which had this
promised shared cartridge architecture. But it looks as if we
are going to have to upgrade to Dev6.0 to use this cartridge
architecture.
What happened to Dev2.1?
I received the Dev6.0 beta CD, and was imressed by OAS4.0.
Should we just skip the Dev2.1 / OAS3.0 or are there going to be
further releases of Dev2.x supporting OAS4.0?

Report viewer "Go To Next Page" button always load Page2 with Crystal Reports Runtime version 10.0.10. No problem with Crystal Reports Runtime version 10.0.5.
NOTE: I did not check other Crystal Runtime versions.

It is a web application.
It was working fine with Crystal Report version 13.0.5. Only change is uninstall Crystal Report version 13.0.5 and install Crystal Report version 13.0.10
Entering page number works fine to view that page Request.Form parameters sample for that (change page from page 3 to page 5):

if u r using forms 10g pls may be u forgot to set the following form the Form's menu
Pls Select > Edit Menu > Preferences > RunTime Tab > Set the Browser u have to use.

Hi guys..
I have created an application composed by 5/6 forms. I created a .BAT file that launches the main MENU form, that has all the related buttons wich call the other modules of the application. NOw the issue is the seguent, if I install the forms on the local machine I have no problems at all. But instead, if I install them on a server pc, I begin having very strange problems. For example, my main MENU forms gets launched without any issues, I press the first button on the main menu and my application starts, if I exit and then press another button, it literally EXPLODES. The forms runtime crashes and creates a DUMP file. Now the strange thing is that it doens't do it on every PC.
Do you guys know anything about this ?Could it be that you have lot of other programs running in the server so there is not enough memory to run forms.
Just curious, why are you using a combination of version 5 and version 6 forms?
From your main form, are you calling both version 5 and version 6 fmx files? -
I am developing forms on a local network. I don't want to use the web nor develop my reports on the web. Can I upgrade from 6i to 9i and use a forms or reports runtime. Is there any rumtime for 9i?

Free download version does not have forms runtime application file, ifrun90.exe. You will need this file to deploy your 9i form on your local network.

Reports runtime application file (I don't remember the name!!!) is available and 9i reports can be deployed on your local network. When you design a new report using reports design wizard you will get different options to choose from.

I am using Oracle Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.3.0
My Forms runtime settings where we specify the default browser, Application Server URL etc are not getting saved.
Meaning when I exit out and open Forms builder again , I am having to specify this again.
Can someone please let me know how to avoid this ?
I am using Edit - Prerefernces - Runtime(tab) to enter the preferences .

sWell, the answer depends on the version of Forms you are running. If version 6 or less, simply click on the "Run Form" button or press Ctrl + R to run the form. This will automatically start the from in the Forms Runtime. If you are using Forms version 9 or greater, the run time is now the Web Browser. You will need to have a compatible Java Runtime Environment installed (preferably the Oracle Jinitiator). If you install Jinitiator, you should be set, but may have to edit the "DEFAULT.env" and/or the "formsweb.cfg". Both files are located in the <ORACLE_HOME>\forms90\server folder.
If my answer is way off the mark, please post a more descriptive question. :-)

Regarding the latter you can do a view source even if you don't see anything:

That way you can see what the server formsweb.cfg is sending out.
Regarding firefox x-java-applet is the important part. Trouble begins if x-java-applet is specifying some particular version and that is not the version installed in firefox. I recommend it should
end up like so: (note this is specifying for download jre 6.24 and 6.26 is the current version. BTW you
need to have https: for all java download links or IE 8 will spew warnings about mixed security models).
The important thing is that x-java-applet is NOT specifying some version of the jre. Firefox does not
do family versioning like IE.

Forms runtime just hangs on startup
When I try to run any form, a blank "Oracle Developer Forms Runtime" window comes up and then nothing else happens. The same thing happens consistently if I try to run from a server with JInitiator 1.3.1.13 (or apparently any server) or with local OC4J instance using JInitiator 1.3.1.9. Other users can run the same forms from the same server(s). The problem started suddenly with no system updates that I know of between working and not working states. OS and browser: XP And Explorer with SP2 (but Forms behaves the same way if I try Netscape 7). Any Ideas...?

Does the test form show?It behaves in exactly the same way: no form shown and Java Console doesn't show anything past that "Forms Applet version". I know that I haven't changed anything in my local Forms Developer/OC4J environment since it was working. I tried removing JInitiator(s) and having them reinstall automatically by trying to run a form and the download and installation worked flawlessly but it didn't help with the problem. I suspect that something in my Windows system is blocking JInitiator but what could it be? -
Windows 7, Forms Runtime 6i and Discoverer 10g don't play nice together

I posted this under the Discoverer Forum, but it was suggested that this might be a better place.
Let's see if I can have this make sense:
We are testing 3 Oracle products on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
1. Forms Runtime 6i
2. Discoverer 10g version 10.1.2.3
3. ODBC from Ora client 11
I can install everything; although I had to install Discoverer in Compatablilty Mode using XP SP2. The ODBC client requires that I change the environment varialbes and add a New Environment variable called TNS_ADMIN.
Forms 6i works and the ODBC work until I install Discoverer. After installing Discoverer, I get a TNS cannont resolve.......on the Forms Runtime.
I'm lost as to how to get the Forms 6i to work. If you need any more information, please ask and I'll try to answer.
Thanks for all your help.OK - so I thought the original post was from May of 2011 and wrote up my entire response accordingly. Only at the very end did I see that the original post was from May of 2010. Hopefully my response will help others who are only now trying to work through this issue.
Although Developer 6i is not officially supported by Oracle on Windows 7, it can run. It is just a bit finnicky to figure out.
There are a few of other things to I'd like to mention.
#1 Because you are running on a 64-bit OS, and depending on the Oracle 6i patch level you are running on the machine (we use Patch 17), you will need to replace two DLL files in the <ORA6i_HOME_DIR>\bin folder with version from 1/2/2001 (Patch 4, I think)
1. NN60.DLL
2. NNB60.DLL
If you do not replce these files, you will get an "FORM ERROR FRM-41211 Integration Error: SSL failure running another product" if you try to run a report from within your forms application, or if you try to open a form in a new window. The newer versions of these files apparently had removed some 64-bit calls when 64-bit Windows XP flopped.

#2 Because you are running on a 64-bit OS, if you want to add the TNS_ADMIN variable to your registry, you should add it in two places. HKLM\Software\Oracle AND HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Oracle
#3 During installation, I have a batch file that performs a lot of the 6i install stuff, so I don't run in compatability mode. But what I do is open a command prompt using "Run As Administrator" then browse to the 6i installers and install from that admin environment. If you are creating packaged forms 6i applications, I would strongly suggest investing the time to figure out how to script the 6i install for you clients. It can be a pain, but it is certainly much better than having to remember a gazillion different steps and make sure that you selec the approrpiate packages every time. The certainly don't need the full 6i environment, only the runtime portions.
#4 When installing multiple versions of oracle client, we've always found it best to start with the oldest version first. Get it running and tested, then move to the next version. Test the new version, then the old, then change the old to work with the new. Rinse and repeat. Of course, this is not required and may be impossible (installing your 6i app on machines that have been running 10g for years where you don't want to have to reimage the machine), but that order is definitely helpful in determine those steps that must be taken to get all versions working at the same time. -

We tried to invoke this table(stock_area_master) using database block wizard in forms 10g,we were expecting to see the columns in this table,but we got the following error

on seeing the forms help for the error FRM-10095,We are getting the following message

We have the following concerns.
1.) is it possible to have datatype "timestamp" in forms 10g,our researches show that we can manipulate using datatime datatype in forms,our requirement is have to precision of 6 digits(millisecond - format - dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss),we are able query and view precision to the tune dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss,but we are unable to insert/update to this precision.
We would appreciate if some one could throw some light on the above.

Hm. Strange.
I have reproduced the problem in my environment.
I have also found, that building the block manually, seems to work, as long as you define the item with datatype Char in Form Builder. Inserts and updates using a value like "22-AUG-06 11:10:11,647354 AM" worked fine for the timestamp item.
You may want to enforce some dateformat. I don't know whether that will work.
