Framesets support on Lion Server?

I am hosting a website on my Lion Server Mac Mini - I use a redirection service for the domain I own. The redirection service offers masking to hide the the IP address of my server. It is supported only if the web server supports framesets.
"Our URL masking is done with a frameset so if your webserver isn't configured to handle framesets the masking option will not work."
Does Lion's webserver support framesets and how do I invoke it?

Why do you think AFP is limited to 10 connections?
Because when I connect 11 different macs to the server, the 11th one fails with an error saying that the server isn't allowing any more connections.  That was also the case on Snow Leopard.  There is also this entry in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
MaxConnections Number 10
I tried changing it, but the only difference was a longer pause before the error message, so I think the limit is built deeper into the software.
Lion Server, to my understanding, has no concurrent connection limitations.

I'll feel wonderful if you can say that more definitively.  Do you have Lion Server?  Have you made more than ten connections?
Thank you for your help.

Mac OS X Server v10.7 does not show the ethernet link aggregated interface i created. Does Lion server support ethernet link aggregated interfaces?

    Thanks for responding Cold--

I read the link but it still does not explain why the aggregated dual ethernet interface does not show up in the Network tab of the hardware section Lion Server. I was able to see it on the network and looks to be using a single static IP that I assigned. My concern was that is this supported and will it allow for failover and double performance of the single network interface.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks again!

  • Any known issues with a powerpc 10.5 client being supported by Lion Server running on an Xserve?

I just got a used xServe that I am looking at installing Lion Server on rather than paying the $500 for Snow Leopard Server.  However, I have several older PowerPC based iMacs running 10.5.  The xServe will be used an a basic file server.  Any known/anticipated problems regarding compatability?

Thank you.  That is what I was hoping to hear.  The xServe is a late 2006 Intel with duo core with 3 GHz Xeon.
Your suggested migration is exectly what I had in mind.  I really was not lookging forward to the $500 hit to get Snow Leopard Server, so I was very excited about the new pricing for Lion.
    Thank you again!

  • Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??

I am looking to move from an outdated Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to OS X Lion Server but I am unsure as to how Lion will handle email. I do not want to spend money on a new windows server if I can get a Mac Mini Server to do the job. I am a very small business with a number of email accounts for a couple employees and need access to email and calendar from both the office iMac's and my Macbook Pro when on the road. My IT guy says I need Exchange but he's been off base on a few other items recently and I wanted to check with other sources.
I have 2 new iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad1 and and iPhone4 on the mac side of things and 2 windows computers running XP. I would get rid of the windows computers completely if not for my CAD program which runs best not in a virtual machine mode.
How well will email and calendar entries sync across devices?

I have a very similar setup at my office. Lion Server will push email, calandar, contacts to all of your apple product with out a hitch.
As far the Windows XP machines, you can access email over IMAP with Thunderbird, and calandars via sunbird or the built in web app.
I would ditch the exchange server move to Mac OS X Server, and never look back.
    God Luck!
PS. All of your devices will be in sync all the time.

  • I am running Mountain Lion Server, and the App Store indicates an upgrade to Server.App version 2.2.5. When I try to upgrade it will not install. Is that because OSX8 is no longer supported; and if so, is there an alternate source for this upgrade if

Mountain Lion Server.app no longer supported?

Probably  a long shot, but try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

  • Lion Server does not support Windows 7 clients?

I have several clients who have Windows 7 workstations and Mac OS Lion servers. They cannot connect to their shares using any of the server accounts. I just installed Lion clean, bought Lion server and cannot connect to the shares from Windows 7 (Pro 64bit). I can connect from Windows XP Pro workstation. This is a major problem. I have read of some ways of changing the security settings in the bowels of Windows 7 to allow it connect (it is noted that these also say it will not work on Windows Home) but so far none of these methods have for me or my fellow techs. Not to mention that if to connect a Windows 7 client to a Mac we have to get in a muck with the registry every time - even if this were successful - it is a terrible way to support Windows.

This has been madness. So many alchemist fixes around Google for what seems to be a common problem: edit the registry, alter security settings, configure OpenDirectory, kiss a frog. What happened to the idea of sharing a folder on the LAN and getting back to work?
How do I confirm the string that serves as my Lion Server's FQDN?
On a (perhaps) related matter, I am confused because in my PC's "Network" list I see my Lion server as "MACMINI-0302EC" which seems like a generic machine name plus partial MAC address, but I've given the server a customized name in the server's System Preferences...

  • What OSs does Lion Server Time Machine Support?

Obviously, it supports Lion,, but can I backup to a Lion server running Leopard or Snow Leopard? Anyone know for sure?

It should.  I have no experience with the Server product, but here's the Snow Leopard Help on the subject:

  • MacPro1,1 not supported by Mountain Lion. I want 10.7 Lion server.

I have a MacPro1,1 not supported by Mountain Lion. How do I now upgrade my Lion machine to 10.7 Lion server? I can no longer find it in the Mac App Store.

You have to call 1-800-MY-APPLE to order Lion. They will send you a code by email your Apple ID is registered to so you can download it from the MAS. More then likely the same goes for Lion server as that is not showing on the MAS either. But you will have to check on the server product when you call.

  • How do I make Lion Server support more than one Time Machine disk?

Under Snow Leopard Server, I had two disks set up for Time Machine backups. This came about as I'm running a Mac Mini with the 500 GB internal drives which turned out to be insufficient for one of the connected Macs which uses a terabyte drive. I then added an external 6 TB drive and made it a Time Machine destination too. Worked beautifully. When I upgraded to Lion Server the external large drive was no longer available for backups and the interface for configuration within Server only allows for one drive to be in use at a time. Any suggestions (short on reverting to Snow Leopard) as to how to re-enable having both drives available for networked Time Machine access?
    Thanks!

    Hi Adam,
Before I even realised that the Server app had a setting for TM, I just configured TM backups on my (SL) clients as I had done in SL.
I shared the drive(s) on the server I wanted to use.
For each client, I mounted the appropriate shared drive containing its sparseimage file, then set TM on the client to use that drive.
Then I unmounted the shared drive and started TM.
It mounted the remote drive (without displaying it in Finder) and opened the sparseimage, showing the "Time Machine Backups" volume on the desktop.
So you could use any drive attached to the server to backup any client.
    It worked fine for me.
In the end, I changed my clients to use the (single) shared "Backups" volume which Server.app creates because I can fit all my stuff on one drive.

  • Mountain Lion Server bond support?

After migration to new Mountain Lion Server from Snow Leopard Server, the Server App don't recognize the Ethernet aggregation of my Mac Pro! The services that was active in Snow Leopard Server are active, but if I try to stop the service of net install I don't try to restar the services because there isn't no interface!!!!! it's Possible? And probably it's the same for the other services!!!

Yea, I actually run our current SUS on an older Mac Pro. It provides both Apple software updates and Adobe software updates (for our Adobe deployments) and is dedicated to these two services. My primary server (running Mountain Lion—capable of Mavericks, but again, because of the File Sharing issues in Mavericks Server, we're sticking with ML Server for the time being) is a loaded 2009 Xserve—which I don't run "secondary services" (my term <G>), like SUS, on.
Unfortunately, the current SUS box won't do Mavericks Server (though, I have tested running a VM of Mavericks Server, just for SUS and Caching, inside the physical OS, and it worked fine, but seemed like a waste of system resources and just really didn't make much sense—and a bare metal install doesn't work because of RAID, etc.), so I was considering the Caching Service in ML as an alternative (if it did, in fact, feed Mavericks clients). I realize I could just "turn it on" and see what happens, but would rather look into first (as I assumed others would have ML Caching Service on, and probably had Mavericks clients on the network, so would have the info I was looking for).
Anyway, at this point, unless ML Server Caching Service will do the trick, Reposado it is.

  • Lion Server no LAG / BOND Support?

I HOPE I am missing something. I put the dual GE on the Mac Pro into a LAG / BOND Group, to my switch.
OSX Network pannel sees the bonded interfaces, and though static IP, is getting DNS information from Router.
    The Server Application, knows the IP address;
    But does not see the interface. Setting up the network I get;
    Then 2 screens later after warnings about setting the sever up with not network, I See;
Note the correct IP, and Interface 'LAG1'
Does anyone know if this is cosmetic or yet another BUG in this server application?

    Open Terminal and type:
    man serveradmin
This is the command line tool that compliments Server Admin and now Server.app.  It has far more abilitied than Server.app and can allow advanced administration of the server.
I will not be in my lab till Tuesday but I will try a bonded link.  So sad, but when you consider that Lion Server is intended to be run on a mini, I guess bonded interfaces are no loger needed.
By the way, the SSL cert should be based on domain name, not IP address.  So as long as DNS and hostname are working, then the cert should function as expected.

  • How do I best share an iPhoto library to several users on a Lion Server?

I am considering setting up a Lion Server to use for our family of five. The one thing I struggle to understand from searching for information here, and throughout the Internet is: Can I set up a Lion server to have shared libraries for iTunes and iPhoto, and what is the best way to set it up? I would also like to understand if such a shared setup would create any issues with reduced functionality and/or performance?
Today we share libraries across several accounts on one computer, and that works mostly fine, although with some restrictions (only one account can have iPhoto open at a time, which is not much of an issue if on same computer; iTunes can share music but not Apps, ...)

I followed Apple's support team's instruction to create iPhoto on the new external hard drive (My Passport) - and then drag and drop the existing iPhoto library onto it from the Master file.
Don't know who told you that but it would be difficult to be more wrong.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

    Hi Jason
I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.
