Free App Promotion

Is anyone else having problems with the palm.com/appspromo website?
I purchased a new HP Veer to replace my trusty Pre Plus.  In the box came an offer to download 1 free app from a select list of apps.  When I go to the website and choose my app (auctionmate pro) and provide the proper information on the next page, I get the following error:
"There is no matching app ID for this app in the database"  This is a strange error to get.  It would seem to indicate that the app doesn't exist in the app catalog, but after a quick search, it is there and available for purchase.
It will not give me the app I have chosen.
I've already chatted "live" with a "hp/palm" rep through the help function of my phone with no success.  Not only am I convinced that after my "live" chat, that the person I was chatting with didn't understand one word of my issue, but also wasn't really an HP support employee...at least not one directly employee by HP in the united states, but rather a 3rd party support agent, of a foreign background.
I'm not asking much except to be able to download the "free" app I have been offered as part of my phone purchase.  I would really like to hear from some one who can either verify this issue and/or someone from HP who can fix this issue!

Not sure if this is the place to ask about this or not.  I just got the Veer the other day from AT&T.  In the package was an insert telling me that I can get a free app by going to http://palm.com/appspromo.  I've tried a few times to get the free app, but every time I try I get a message that says "Sorry!  There is a problem, please try again."  It never tells me what the problem is, and I haven't been able to get the free app.  Anyone else having this issue, or anyone that knows what's going on?

    I am developing a free app for users and would like to promote the app at various festivals and events at our booth.  Other than the user locating the app through the App Store/iTunes or going to our website to download the app, is there any quicker way of transferring the app onto their iPhone?  Whether it be having a cable tethered from my iPhone/iPad to theirs and transferring it over or having an app that actually transfers our app to a users phone that accepts it... Similar to the app that exchanges contact information just by tapping the two iphones to each other or near each other.

  • Error when I try to enter $20 free app voucher for...

    Hi, I just bought a Nokia Lumia 521 and the current promotion is a $20 gift code no the Windows Store.
    I made my claim with my IMEI code earlier today and was sent my code.
    I am trying to redeem the code the operation fails with the dialog below appearing

    I have tried to enter the code on both my phone and at www.windowsphone.com but have had no luck. Any fixes?

    You normally need to provide some sort of payment method (in part as proof of residence in the country) before you can get even the free apps. It is possible to set up a new iTunes Store account just for free apps, but you have to create a new Apple ID; you cannot use an existing one. If you want to do that, take a look here:

    Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note again that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID. 
    You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free content without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

  • Can I use 1 (company) apple account to install a (free) app to several iphones?

    With our company, we have an app in the app store.
    But suppose we have some company iPhones that we want to use for promotional issues. More concrete: we would like to install the app on those (10) iPhones, so people (journalists, politicians) can learn what this game is all about.
    The question is: can we use our 1 apple account to install this game on these several iphones? Or is the number of apple iphones with the same apple account limited?
    Actually, the game is not free, but we'd install the games with some generated promotion codes.
    "Just try it", you might say, but the problem is we still have to buy these iphones. Buying them to see afterwards that the installation with 1 account doesn't work, would be kinda silly, wouldn't it.

    One possible way of making this work would be with the AppStore VolumePurchase Program.....the issue is that the Apps can't be free.  If your company App is available to the general public, then you could use the VPP to place it on the phones without having to have a corporate iTunes account on each phone. You would basically be buying the App from yourself.  Gifting is another option, but this also won't work with free Apps.  You might be able to make the VPP work, somehow.....hope this helps.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
    The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.

Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
    In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
    Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most users don't.
    5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
    If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
    6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
    The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

    There is no such thing, since the problems you are describing can have various causes. Seeking anything claiming to "clean" your Mac is asking for trouble, since all of those products are scams, whether they are "free" or not.
    If you are having trouble with your Mac, describe what it is. Be as specific as possible. For general recommendations read below.
    There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
    You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
    Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
    Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
    OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
    A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
    Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up", "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
    Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
    Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
    "Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
    If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
    Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
    Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
    Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
    Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
    Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email.     But is Kaspersky any good?  It calls itself anti-malware as well, but I'm nervous about anything -- althought woud it work on my windows partition well?  I have AVG currently, but I donat know much about these things. 
    So if I want to delete all these free apps, how do I do it?  is it simply a matter of dragging them to the trash?  and if so should i do a secure empty trash with them?

    -- now that I look at my invocie, the free apps need to be downloadad separately, so if I got anything than I woud get Kaspersky (AVG's all right, but it also always opens up a window when I start parallels; it didn't do that before; really annyoing).  Can anyone tell my if Kaspersky is better/more efficient, etc?

    Generally speaking, "free" apps bundled with software such as Parallels is anything but, and are likely to cost you dearly in time, money, lost data, or all of the above. Delete all those you mentioned and don't look back.
    1Password may be an exception. I don't use it since iCloud Keychain is free but many people use 1Password and seem to like it. Get it from the Mac App Store. If the version included is "free" its functions may be limited.

  • Integration of Free App and Paid App

    I need help thinking through the design implications of the following:
    I have a project where I want to deploy a free app to get maximum exposure. Then, from within this app, I would like to offer access to various premium content packages for a fee. I have about 20 premium packages available and each is priced the same. How can I best put the free App and paid content together?
    1. I can use the free app as a way of promoting the premium content and then directing people to the App store to buy the premium content as an App. But if people wanted to buy all 20, then would end up with 21 Apps on their IPhone. This seems unwieldy.
    2. Is there some way of using the Free app as a "content shell"? Buyers would be directed to the App store if they wanted to buy premium content, would buy the content, but instead of it showing up as a separate App, the content would download into the "content shell"?

    That is on the right track, but I'm wondering if I can design what I would term a mini App Store within a free App. I'm envisioning a way to offer the premium content with a "buy now" button next to each content package. Then we would serve content to the App based on the what was purchased.

    Every time i try to download a free app, a sign pops up saying "SIGN IN REQUIRED: Tap continue and sign in to view billing information." and when i press continue, it wants me to put in my credit card info.

    Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

    okay so i used a visa gift card i had gotten as a payment method to use to download music on itunes and then finally it ran out of money. then later when i tried to download an app it said "sign in required" so i signed in then it said my payment method isnt working but i have no other meathod and i cant cancel the one i have so i tried again and it keeps saying the same thing.. it wont let me download anything.. what do i do?

    You probably have a past due balance in the iTunes store. If so, you'll have to enter a new payment type, or use an iTunes gift card to resolve the outstanding balance before you can proceed to download free apps, or install app updates.

    You can create a new Apple ID without using a credit card for download free apps by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534.  Follow it exactly as writtien.  Note that you have to download and try to install a free app and then create the ID.

  • Promotion number in the sales order for free goods promotion.

    Hi,
    I have a business scenario in which "Sales Orders are created" for the customers in SAP IS Retail System.(This is for helpdesk ordering). In most of the occasions, free goods promotion would be running. The free goods promotions(exclusive) are maintained using promotion module in IS Retail system(condition type NA00). In this situation, the promotion number is not getting populated in the sales order automatically. Is there any specific configuration required or any BADI needs to be activated?
    Note: Free goods item is getting generated automatically in the sales order with item category TANN.
    Can any one advice pls.

    Apps are permanently tied to the account used to download them. It was behaving exactly as it should have.

    Part of the validation for credit cards is that they need to be registered to exactly the same name and address that you have on your iTunes account, which prepaid cards tend not to be. Do you have a proper credit card that you could use ? Or are iTunes gift cards available in your country so that you could try using them as your payment method ?
    Until you have a valid payment method on your account and what you owe iTunes has been paid off then you won't be able to download any item from the store, including free apps (and updates to apps).

  • Serious fixes needed by RIM for PB/My Review/I'll review your free app

    So it was just yesterday that I received my dev PlayBook. So far, it's going pretty well. I do like BlackBerry's new platform and it looks like it has some great potential.
    Now, I know it's just a new platform, but wow some of these things are already slightly painful. They almost make me want to sell this to go get a Honeycomb tablet! Luckily I will try hold out.
    Bad things:
    - I just received a new update today with Video chat. Already, the update has actually seemed to do good and bad things to the device. Some parts of the device seem more choppy.
    - My browser is just driving me mad. I've done reset after reset and close after close, but pages keep often half-loading, getting stuck 3/4 loading, clicking 'login' on these forums on the device and it stalls on that webpage, and sometimes the app crashes (seems to have only been noticable after the most recent update).
    - Apps: really can't wait for that Android player, there really isn't that much to do on here just yet
    - Feedback button or similar? Unless I've missed it, RIM has released these products to REAL consumers (not just developers like us who generally tend to not worry about bugs as much), and if they release a brand new platform that is bound to have quite a few bugs (and let me tell you, it does), they really should have a feedback or error report button. Especially with this browser thing
    - Those email and calendar apps! I really hope they are coming within the next 60 days It's kind of strange that they managed to add video chat and an official Facebook app before a native email app.
    - File browser: I've got a lot of downloads here that I can't really delete, like PDF's. I don't know whether there's some big button that I'm missing but it's a little annoying Please bring a file manager or something (if it's not developable by developers, haven't looked into that personally) 
    - Autocorrect: the keyboard looks and seems quite nice at first. Until you realise it doesn't have an autocorrect like the iPad does. It's fairly hard to be completely accurate on a tablet keyboard in the first place, let alone a 7" one, so please pretty please do away with the red underline and bring in some live-correction-action
    - That power button. I think mine is raised but it's still a pain in the *@&@#(@#*&#$&@.

    - Apart from the Browser being an absolute sh*t and half-loading and quitting on me all the time, it's quite decent. Nice rendering, Flash is brilliant and it's quite a good experience. But I seriously hate it right now because it just doesn't work.
    - Hardware (except for that power button). The specs are brilliant, design is nice, build quality is great, speakers are good, brightness is good, battery life currently seems fairly decent, and it only got good comments when I showed colleagues. 
    - The case. Sorry, but this is very cool. Why can't all brands do this? That little sleeve is awesome
    - QNX, apart from some of it's bugs and it's somewhat lonely App World, is working quite nicely. Multitasking is very fluid and it is a size of relief.
    - Size (good and bad). I love the size as I can really take it anywhere, and hopefully use it as a personal calendar/notetaker/slate kind of thing (when CALENDAR functionality comes ), but mind you some things, like the browser experience and keyboard, would be nicer on a bigger screen.
    - Most included apps: the included apps are well done and quite nice. Word to Go would do great with Dropbox integration (please? ) and a file manager would be awesome.
    At the moment, there seems to be more negatives about the PB than positives. I couldn't imagine myself buying this until it had matured with stability, apps and Android players etc. But other than that, I like where it's going, just please RIM, change a few things as soon as you can, it's been hard enough avoiding iPad and other tablets since 2010
    DEVELOPER PART: Also, if you have a free app and you'd like me to review it or give you some feedback, feel free to let me know and I'll give it a go.
    PS: let me know if you experience anything of the same calibre, especially interested in the browser bit. It's the most used app that I use on any device and it's absolutely driving me insane with it's instability on my PlayBook.
