Frequent loss of connection to email server

Every few days, although not following any obvious useage pattern, one of my email accounts stops being able to connect to the mail server. To fix this, I have to delete the account, and then recreate it. I've tried every other suggestion or fix described in these pages and elsewhere - nothing but a delete and recreate works, and it's only temporary.
This is a fairly simple fix - however it is intensely irritating that I have to keep doing it. When the error occurs, I can still access the account via webmail, and can still receive and send from my PC to that account. So it's not the Mail Server being offline etc, just can't connect from my iPhone 5.
My other email accounts on the iPhone continue to function normally, so the Mail app is working.
A search of this community shows many different versions of this issue, which has persisted across iOS6 and 7 upgrades on the handset.
In short, I know how to resolve the problem - I really want to know why it occurs, and why I keep having to resolve it every week or so. I want to fix the problem once and for all.
If it helps, it's always the same mail account, which is an IMAP one (as are my other ones).
Any suggestions gratefully received! How do I raise a bug report with Apple, for example?

A quick Google search does not yield anything. I have to assume in general Apple uses industry standard protocols (and they use the sticklers for using the actual protocol). Everytime I have had problems with wifi and Apple equipment (including the iPad) the solution was that the wifi router (or the servers handling the traffic) were found to need replacement (or re-programming). And this was not due to Apple. My latest issue was the hotel in Singapore. Both my PC laptop and iPad could not find the wifi signal even though the router was in the room. At first we went around rebooting and unplugging everything. Once past that silly step they agreed my equipment was fine but their server pay-wall was an issue (the hotel manager's iphone could not see the wifi either).
So probably an issue with the Cruise ship wifi routers, or their pay-wall servers to follow your computer (to be sure you have paid for your service).
Often the users equipment is blamed and Apple products in particular. But I suspect the majority of the time it is the wifi equipment.

  • Trying to email an image from Lightroom 5.7 and I get the error validation failed to establish connection with email server

    Your settings will usually be blocked by Google unless you agree to lower your security settings.
    Enter your details as shown in image 1 below and click the validate button.
    You should see a LR message that the server settings could not be authenticated.
    Launch your web browser and go to your Gmail inbox. Look for a message from Google confirming the authorization attempt was blocked.
    Click on the link (highlighted in red) on image 2 below.
    You will need to Click on the link “Allow less secure apps”
    Choose enable
    Click done
    Now go back to LR and click the validate button and your Gmail account should show as validated.
    You can now select a thumbnail from the LR Library and mail it by pressing the keys Control + Shift + M (Cmd+Shift+M on Mac)
    The alternative is to set up Google two step verification and make the security application specific to Lightroom.

    My BlackBerry has stopped receiving my emails.  Following advice elsewhere on this site, I have tried removing and reinstalling the battery and reregistering,  I have also deleted the email service book, but am unable to reinstall it because, when I go to Email Settings, all I get is a message saying "Your device had a problem connecting to the server".  All other functions seem to be working normally, including internet access.

  • Galaxy S5 Won't Connect to Email Server for POP3 or IMAP

    I use POP3 from a rackspace webmail account. I use it on my PC and a few mobile devices.
    Got a new S5 and all seems good except setting up my rackspace email.
    I know all the setting are good, I can verify them with rackspace and on my other devices.
    I have confirmed I have a good internet connection, both via wifi and the Vz network.
    I tried setting up as IMAP instead, and the S5 also does not authenticate with the email server.
    Rackspace can't help me, their settings are simple and work fine on other devices.
    I've tried using my wifi and with wifi turned off.
    Other mail (yahoo and gmail) both work fine.
    Any good ideas?

    After setting up Incoming Server it returns an error ”Unable to connect to server –ERR Authentication failed)”

    Updated to lollipop yesterday.  Now I cannot access email server (POP3) on wifi, only over 4G.  This is happening on native email app and third party apps such as K9.  Any help appreciated.

  • Ipad cannot connect to email server

    Since I updated my iPad to ios 6.1 last Thursday I have been unable to access my email. It appears that it cannot find the email server. My wi-fi is working fine. I have looked at all my settings and am mystified.  My iPhone update worked fine and I am getting mail on my iPhone. Is it possible my iPad is "locked out"?

    I was able to fix it by deleting the account and setting it back up again.

    I dont think its a problem with your exchange account as it worked normally before I would try restoring your phone to see if it fixes if not and you are still under warranty take it into a apple store and have a genius look at it

  • Frequent loss of connection with HH5

    I upgraded to infinity and got a HH5 a few weeks ago. Initially it was great, stable and down load up to 26 Mbps. Now, I lose the connection several times each day and this evening it dropped the connection about 4 times in an hour. The speed now is down to 9 Mbps. Any ideas on what is wrong or what I can do?

    Speed is not the problem, now up to 18000 in any case. It is loss of connection. I don't understand computers so not sure what information you requested. Here is most recent event log details if that would help.

  • Cannot connect my email server to Mail.

    Hey... so I'm trying to connect my yahoo mail account on apple mail, but when I try to send something a message always comes up saying:
    "The server “plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk” cannot be contacted on the default ports. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
    So does anyone know how to correctly connect a yahoo account? There's a bunch of funny abbreviations like POP & SMTP, I don't know what those mean... Can anyone help?

    A couple of questions to clarify things:
    1. Your profile shows you are in Vancouver, WA (USA); yet you are saying that the yahoo mail server you are referring to is in England?
    2. You need to check your settings in Mail and tell us if you have a POP or IMAP account with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). My guess - if you are in Vancouver - you have Comcast? Which would mean it's POP, but we need to make sure.
    You can see that information in your Preferences -> Accounts.
    3. If you are in the US, Yahoo does not offer automatic forwarding of emails unless you are willing to upgrade to and pay for the Yahoo Plus (I believe they still offer it free in some parts of Europe, but not in the US).
    SMTP simply means "outgoing mail server" and, if you are on Comcast, it would read "smtp.comcast.net"; that information would also be available in the Accounts pane.
    Without getting more in-depth information, we can only guess at this point. If you'd be able to set up Yahoo, you would have to follow Yahoo's instructions on server name and port numbers. That information is available from Yahoo.

    I was reading some of the other posts here and found on that did the trick !!!!
    All I had to do was "reboot" the iPad by "Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time until it shutsdown, then keep holding it until the Apple logo appear." I didn't even have to delete the mail account
    Hope this helps others with the same problem....

    Update: It connected and downloaded new mail .... but just tried to send an email and got an error that it could not send . I'll try removing the email account,shut down and try to reload the account. Will update what I find out .

    Ok, firstly, as it says in the document you are asking about, do a reset by holding the sleep and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears.
    Next, as you seem to be using iOS 5, follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4098

    Taking these steps may result in deleting unsent items in your outbox, so you may want to copy/paste them in to Notes to save them.

    Plan:
    Messaging server (like JbossMQ /SonicMQ) is hosted on one machine.
    A JMS receiver (MDB/core java program) on another machine receives messages from the messaging server.
    Secnario:
    The JMS receiver is now continuously listening or occasionally reading messages from a certain queue of the server using a JMS connection.
    Now the messaging server has this receiver in its list of receivers for that particular queue.
    For some reason the messaging server is down and then restarted.
    The JMS connection of the receiver is now invalid.
    When the messaging servers comes up again its list of receivers is empty.
    Required Solution:
    Can you please help me on how the JMS receiver can detect the above scenario and re-establish the connetion to the messaging server, the next time the server is up.
    Observations:
    When I create a message consumer or queue receiver in a j2se program, and take messages from JbossMQ I have some additional threads running on my JVM. These threads are not directly created by the program and servers only for receiving messages. One of these threads is catching an exception and printing a stack trace when it detects that the connection is lost. This will also result in the closing of JMS connection. The problem is that the exception is not thrown for the programmer to catch and handle it at some level. I also tried ExceptionListener and waited for ping interval. Is there a concept of receiver listening to the periodic heart beat of the server. Please give me guidance, solutions or corrections.

    do you want to use the JMS API directly? In this case you have to create the connection factory on system X. From system Y, you access the JNDI on system X and look up the connection factory. Since you are accessing the JNDI on system X from outside, you need to set some properties to create the InitialContext:
