Frequent segfaults caused by gpu

Everything seems stable on start up but as programs run longer they become more likely to segfault. Tabs in chromium begin to segfault constantly and Firefox crashes almost as soon as its opened and all other programs crash but more sporadically. I am not sure how to resolve this or even determine if its hardware failing or a driver problem. I also cant think of any specific update this behavior coincided with.

Looks like a driver / software problem to me, i suggest you follow the advice above and register a bugreport.
Check you pacman log for recent updates for the kernel , mesa and xf86-video-intel .
Either of them could be the cause.

  • Firefox causing high GPU usage and fluctuations

I have an NVIDIA GTX 440 graphics card and I like to monitor its speeds and tempratures.
Ive noticed whenever using firefox even when im just scrolling down a page my gpu clock will shoot up to max (822 mhz) and this will of course cause the fan to speed up and make noise.
Its kind of annoying cause when im not scrolling its on idle and quiet, and then I scroll down and suddenly it shoots up. Basically its making my gpu go from max to low constantly and I dont think thats very good for my gpu.
Is there anyway to fix this? I dont see why firefox needs max speed from the GPU.

There should be an issue in bugzilla for this. It's obvioulsy coding defects. Chrome utilize GPU 3-4 times less than Firefox and works smoother. IE10 utilize GPU 10-13 times less than Firefox and works even more smoother than Chrome.

  • Frequent updates causing other programs not to work correctly

I have a fitness computer called Body Bugg. After one of the frequent updates by Firefox, portions of the program stopped working.
I tried downloading the newest update for Java but the program continues to give me a black screen and displays "done" rather than the normal form that should be displayed.
I have to completely back out of the internet and go back in for the program to work correctly.
It doesn't happen in IE. I prefer not to use IE, can you assist with this?
    Thanks,
    Eve E Greditzer

  • Vista Ultimate WiFi dropping frequently and causing BSODs

Hey guys, I have vista Ultimate SP1 installed on my iMac via bootcamp, when I am not using the network heavily, the network will disconnect every hour, when I try to copy files from time capsule, it drops out every 5-10 minutes, this really isn't helpful when I'm trying to transfer 30+ gigs of data, as I keep having to restart it Also I get the odd BSOD which I think relates to this.
    All help is appreciated, thanks

Not all routers and modems work well with Windows 7/Vista.
See if there is firmware for your network equipment.
Upgrade to Win7, much better WiFi and networking.

  • AE error : GPU Manager sniffer result code 3

    Hello everyone !
I'm French so sorry if my English is bad !
I've just installed after effect CC and media Encoder CC, but while it's starting, I get an error message !
    <5840> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 3
    My Pc configuration is :
    Geforce GTX 970M
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @2.50GHz
    8go RAM
Service Pack 1 - Windows 7 x64 "Familiale Premium" (I don't know the name in English sorry)
    Hard drive - 1 to
All the software are up-to-date ! (as you can see on my Screenshot)
    Thanks for your help !

The most frequent cause for GPU sniffer codes on machines that run Windows 7 is when Service Pack 1 is not installed. Please check again to make sure that Service Pack 1 and all relevant Windows updates have been installed.
After that, update your graphics card driver.

  • Finder crashes with OS 10.6.8. With or without any apps running finder will hang repeatedly causing the iMac to hang also. I upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 recently and finder was OK for 1 week. How do I submit a crash log?

Folllowing an upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8  (Snow Leopard) Finder frequently hangs, causing any open apps and the iMac to hang. This will occur whether or not any 3rd party apps or Safari are open. About 50% of the time trying to empty the trash will cause a finder hang. There are no error messages to let me know what code such a hang may be. Repeated attempts to force quit the iMac always fail, so I have to hard crash using the power button. Multiple attempts are required to successfully restart via the login screen. I do not know whether any other apps, such as Safari or screen saver may be involved. I think a crash log would help, however I am not sure whether I should look in: useres/library/logs/DaiagnosticReports or : users/library/logs/CrashReporter, and whether I should attempt to open the latest in either in Console or Text edit and then post here. Also, is this the appropriate site to post a log in the hope that Apple may look at it? I have read through threads on Apple finder, and am stunned to find that after all these OS-X versions finder is still buggy and inferior to MS Explorer and Apple appears to be in denial. Maybe their efforts are in devices such as iPhones and iPads? Ths issue never occured in OS 10.5.8.

  • Macbook pro mid-2012 GPU-panic

Hi, my Macbook Pro mid-2012 has recently started rebooting sporadically. After some investigation I found out that it is caused by GPU Panic which happens EVERY TIME when discrete GPU (NVidia 650M) is enabled and its temperature goes over 64-65 degrees (Celsius, according to iStat).
It seems it started to happen after one of the OS updates.
Did you faced this issue? Is it software or hardware related?  Are there any workarounds/fixes?
Now I am using gfxCardStatus to use Integrated GPU only, but it makes not possible using any 3D-games on this laptop.
    Thanks,
    Nikolay

Are you running any anti-virus or internet security software? Any cleaning, tune-up, "keeper," or optimization apps that did not come preinstalled?
Are you set up to do torrent downloading?
Are you using backup software other than Time Machine, like that which comes bundled with a external hard drive?
Are you using an online backup serviceother than iCloud (Carbonite; MS OneDrive; Google Drive)?
Those can run up the internal temps.

  • IMac 27" (Late 2012) Loud Fan and Overheating Issues, causing Hard Drive Failure

    Hi all,
I'm having some serious overheating issues with my new iMac. Any help to help me solve this problem would be gladly appreciated since it's really beginning to bug me. Here's what's has happened:
I noticed in the first few hours of switching the iMac on that there was a short burst of very loud fan noise. This has been happening about once every two days since and every time I haven't been doing any heavy processing with the system. I've noticed that the main fan will spin, on average, at 1200rpm. Is that normal? The iMac is very well ventilated and sits right next to a window...
I have also boot camped the iMac with a copy of Windows 8 so I could run some fairly power-hungry games. I intentionally purchased a high end iMac (27" display, Intel Core i7 3.4GHz, Nvidia GeForce 680MX Graphics, 1TB Fusion drive) and expected the iMac to run games flawlessly. However, after a few days, I noticed that the CPU and GPU had shot up to a worrying 80°C whenever I ran power-hungry games, with a very loud hissing noise from the fan. After running games for about 10 minutes, the fan will stop hissing, causing the GPU and CPU to increase to 100°C. The iMac then fails and switches off unexpectedly without any warning. After analysing the Windows event logs, I received an event ID 41: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
As this occurred about six times whilst I was testing my iMac's performance, I think my hard drive has now begun to fail - sometimes I will hear the hard drive make a click noise, about once every 5 seconds. Sometimes, the clicking noise causes OS X and Windows to run very slowly (even though minimal RAM is being used and nothing too intensive (Safari, Mail etc.) is being processed). Running Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions under OS X's recovery mode as well as a repair in chkdsk in Windows suggests that there were no problems with the hard drive. All I can do is wait a while for the clicking noise to stop, and then performance will increase. I have backed up everything externally.
I have also performed a reset of the SMC as well as the PRAM, which hasn't really helped.
Any help will be appreciated. I will gladly provide any extra logs etc. if they're needed.
    Thanks so much,
    Alex.

That's the default fan speed on iMacs, so there isn't any problem with this.

You must know that Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 and that Apple hasn't released drivers for Windows 8, so it can fail. Install Windows 7 inmediately until Apple launches updated drivers.
As it looks like the hard disk is damaged, I would take the Mac to an Apple Store. It's in warranty, so it should be repaired for free or you should receive a new one

Most people say that the problem is caused by GPU failure. For now, Windows (Vista) will start normally but I can only see the display using external monitor. I found out that the problem will happen again when the temperature gets too hot. The CPU and GPU idle temperature is around 60 degree celcius and around 95 degree celcius when they're busy. The screen will turn black when the temprature exceeds 95 degree celcius.
I already took out the fan, clean it thoroughly until there's no dust at all. Furthermore, I invested $25 for new thermal paste but the problem still happen. Even in power saver mode, the temperature range is 60 to 95 degree celcius and the laptop bottom side feels really hot to the touch.
What else caused my laptop to overheat? Is it worth my money to bring it to computer techncian?

The fan is running at 3250 RPM. CPU temperature is 54 degree celcius at idle, 90 when it;s busy.
When I increase the speed fan to the maximum setting, the tempetarute is just around 3 degrees lower. I think this is still hot isn't it? Besides, these are all done in 'power saver' mode. I know that the computer was not running that hot before.

  • Frequent Oracle*Reports crashes

Frequent crashes causes Oracle*Reports to be almost unusable. I am using Report Builder v6.0.8.25.0, a very recent patch set. The crashes are not repeatable, i.e. they cannot be reproduced with a rehearsed set of mouse clicks. But nearly all have to do with moving back and forth between the data wizard.
Moving to Reports 9i was such a disaster that it was decided to return to 6i. I don't need the features in 9i so this isn't an issue.
What can I do to capture more meaningful data on these crashes?

The following is from a recent crash:

  • GPU acceleration not working when launched via document?

When I open Illustrator alone, then open a file, I get GPU acceleration. (good)
When I open Illustrator by double-clicking a file, I don't get acceleration. (bad)
I'm happy that the latest update made GPU work when I have multiple monitors plugged in but there's still this little bug. One that I can work around but still, not something I imagine makers of the lofty CC should be plagued with.
I'm seeing this behavior in Illustrator 18.1.1 64bit on Windows 8.1.

  • Photomerge causes Photoshop CS5 to crash

Whenever I click on File - Automate - Photomerge, Photoshop crashes. It happens with both 32 bit and 64bit versions.
Is there any easy solution ?
    Cheers,
    Geoff

    Thanks.
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD6000 - I have loaded the latest driver and also tried going back a couple of versions.
    I have also reloaded Photoshop.
    Processor is Intel i7-3770 3.40Ghz. 16mb RAM.  Windows 7 64bit.
I have 1920MB (59%) of RAM available to Photoshop and 560GB of scratch disk available.
I'm not sure how long I have had the Photomerge problem as I have only recently tried to use it.  But I have also recently started getting what appears to be the quite common error "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements". I have not found a cure for that anywhere.
I have searched for, but can not find sniffer - which seems to cause some GPU issues
I have a suspicion that the problem might be in the registry as I also had problems with network connections, which were solved with some regisrty editting suggested in another forum.  It appears that some registry cleaners can add artifacts that disrupt networks. Once I removed those the unwanted elements the network worked fine. So I think maybe my registry cleaner may have made chnages that affect Photomerge.

  • Any way to avoid frequent panic: "IOGMD: not wired for the IODMACommand..."?

I've had a dual monitor set up on my Mac Pro "Early 2009" since it was delivered new.
The machine has two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120's adapters, each attached to identical Apple LCD Cinema Displays (1920x1200) via Displayport.
I've experienced a number of strange behaviours with this set up.
From new, I had random occasional blanking of one of the screens.  Maybe once every week or two, lasting a few seconds, then the image comes back fine.
From 10.8.2 the machine would occasionally crash (panic), typically while I was using the broswer - and often whan scrolling or something that was clearly causing the GPU to be moving things around.
From 10.8.3 this seems to be *much* worse.  This crash now happens at least once a day in normal operations.
    I've pasted the dump below.
Is anyone else having similar problems?  Is there anything I can do to alleviate this issue?  It's really starting to interfere with my day-to-day use of the machine.

  • Brand new 5k imac GPU heating to ridiculously hot levels under mild use

I'm only browsing the Internet and using Google Hangouts. Presently my GPU die is at 100C and has remained consistent at this temperature throughout the day. The maximum allowed temperature for the GPU die as reported by iStat is 105C.
my rMBP 2014 under a similar load is 117C, however it has an upper limit of (according to iStat) 200C.
I am concerned that the GPU die would come within 5C of overheating under a mild workload. If I were to play a game such as League of Legends I am almost certain that this would cause the GPU die to reach 105C and thus cause the device to power itself off.

GPU proximity is just that. The sensor is near the GPU, not directly in it. Same with any of the other "proximity" sensors. From my Late '09, missing even a GPU proximity sensor. Relatively recent version of iStat Menus, which includes all these "proximity" ones. Don't know what to make of the very high readouts for the GPU Die in your models. Temperature Monitor (free) no longer being supported, but maybe Marcel Bresink, in Hardware Monitor (paid--if it's still being supported for new models) has a note about those. Since those temps are showing high for everyone here, I'd be inclined not to worry about them and use the GPU Proximity as a more reliable guide as to what's going on.
And then from Hardware Monitor, which shows all the same sensors, but with different names. For example, Power Board Proximity is called Power Supply Position 2.
In mine the Northbridge makes a decent proxy for the GPU.

  • GPU abnormally hot ! Thinkpad t41p FireGL T2 @59C on BIOS fan

I wanted to see if underclocking could improve my battery life. I never got around to it seeing that my GPU got really really hot.
In ATI tray tools, I used the 3D renderer for a few minutes, then I noticed that my GPU had climed to 110C! I immediately stopped the renderer and put my fan at full speed to see if it would help.
Nevertheless the  FireGL T2 @57C on BIOS fan, which seems high.
From what I remember there is a rubber pad on the heatsink to evenly press down on the GPU.
Is there anything else that could be causing the GPU to have such high temperatures?
Are the sensor known to be faulty?
    Cheers

No doubt a professional will do a better job, but at 75$, that is more than what i paid for the machine!
Nevertheless, is definitely the Southbridge that needs to be fixed as I was getting the USB 1.1 and the hard drive would only start with pressure on the wrist pad. Even though I am in my mid thirties, I could hear the high pitch from that part of the board...
As for reflow, a heat gun is only as useful you know the temperature. Using an IR thermometer lets you know about how hot is the chip, and you can monitor as you heat is up gradually. A string/piece of solder could be placed on the chip (which has no components on the surface) to literally see that the chip has attained the temperature for reflow.
I saw the videos on Youtube. Foil around plastic parts is a good idea, but something like asbestos tape, ok an insulating material, and then foil would be safer. My sister reflowed her HP notebook GPU, but she had to resolder the fan connector as the solder heated up and slipped off.
I feel better to know that the Southbridge is not my fault, but I am still an expletive idiot of having put so much liquidy thermal paste.
