FTP server permissions "Read Only"

I manage my own website, and would like to use Finder as my FTP medium. I can log into it, and download from it, but I cannot write to it. I have web admin privileges, but I'm unable to UPload to my ftp server.
It runs on the basic port 21, and has run normally in the past, but this is the first time that I've tried to mount it as a volume on a mac.
This way would be so much easier to use than the FTP online protocol that I use.
Thanks in advance,
Superd@ve

Hi, yes,FTP is Read only in the finder in .4. at least.
You can use Terminal commands or a free FTP client such as Cyberduck to get both R&W rights..

  • Permissions "read only" after copying files FROM server

    Hi everyone!
OK, just setup a Leopard server. Clients all at Tiger - level..for now. This is what I want to do:
I want a read only - network library drive so that the clients can grab files from but then modify locally on their machines. No need to put back on that server as I have another system in place for things like that.
*The problem:* If I propagate permissions at "read only" then when the user copies to their local drives, the owner changes but the permissions remain. They have to manually change the permissions back to match their local, then they can work with the file. When we're talking about hundreds of files for 15+ users a day, then it is quite a pain and a show stopper.
I had this setup previously on a panther server with no trouble. I've maintained settings as close as possible but still having trouble.
Any ideas as to what I'm missing?
FYI- I don't want to change permissions to read/write to protect the library from tampering.
    thanks

+If I propagate permissions at "read only" then when the user copies to their local drives, the owner changes but the permissions remain.+
OK, from your description, you'd have to have the POSIX owner's permissions set to just read-only or read and execute. As you've observed, a copy obtains permissions in the following manner:
The POSIX owner changes to match the account performing the copy (the action-bearing account), and the POSIX group is inherited from the copy's destination parent. The POSIX permissions stay the same, though. (Inherited ACL entries on the original are also lost; explicitly-defined ones are preserved, and new inherited entries apply to the copy from its destination parent.)
All of this is proper behavior, and there's an easy way to make it work to suit your needs.
Since the POSIX owner changes to the action-bearing account for the copy, you'll want to ensure that the original POSIX owner's permissions are read and write. This does not require that you make the original's POSIX owner the same as that of the action-bearing account. An example would better illustrate the situation:
Example POSIX Permissions for the Original on the server:
Owner root can read and write
    Group somegroup can only read
    Everyone else can only read
Thus, let's say that tsmith is the action-bearing account. So tsmith copies the file to his desktop, and the POSIX permissions now look like this:
Owner tsmith can read and write
    Group staff can only read
    Everyone else can only read
Thus, tsmith receives the POSIX permissions of the POSIX group or everyone else field on the server - let's say there are no ACLs for the time being - and he becomes the owner of the copy. Since the original owner, root on the server, had read and write permissions, those permissions are preserved and given to tsmith for the copy.
Another way to deal with this situation would be to use ACLs by placing an inheritable ACL granting full control or read and write for tsmith on his home folder. Any new items copied to or created in his home folder would inherit that ACL. Similarly, an inherited ACL deny entry (but not an explicitly-set entry) affecting tsmith and the delete and delete_child controls could be placed on the affected server share point's top-level before the original was copied there. Then, any subsequent copies from the server volume would drop this inherited ACL entry entirely. These would, however, be much more complicated situations, and your scenario is best handled in the POSIX-only fashion. (This doesn't mean that you have to disable ACLs on the server - just don't apply them for the share point!)

  • CRIO startup directory was typed STARTUP and now will not boot. How do I recover from this error or how do I rename the directory when my proxy server is read only due no startup files?

I loaded files on the cRIO but used upper case letters for the startup directory.  Now I cannot access the RIO since it didn't boot. The proxy server comes up read-only so I can't reload the files or change the directory.  I tried the RS232 port but I can't get it to respond to commands even though I can see the processor boot.

There is NO need to put your entire question into the subject line of your post.
cRIO will not boot is a suitable subject line

  • Sql Server 2005 read-only connection!

    Hi all,
I have connected my Sql Server 2005 tables with Sql Developer 1.1.2.25, but all tables results in read-only state (I can't modify data). Connection user is administrator (SA) and no possible an user-grant problem (from Ms Server Client all work fine with same user). Same problem if I use a Windows Authenticated user. JDBC driver is from sourceforge.net .
    Can you help me?

I have just installed Sql Developer v1.2, but haven't solved problem.
    Any ideas?

  • FTP server permissions

I am unable to upload to my FTP server logging in as any user. I am given the error: 550 Security server forbids that action on this file
I am getting this logged in as a regular user in their home directory or as my administrative user logged into their home directory.
I get this error with any action that would be considered writing, such as renaming. I also get this if I try to delete something.
The directories I am in I DO have write access. I do not get this error if I connect using localhost, but if I connect from outside I get this error.
If anyone could tell me why this is happening and how to fix it it would be much appreciated.

I am still unable to upload, does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Problems with file permissions (read only) from Migration Assistant

So, I just got a new computer (Mac Pro / Leopard) and I used the Migration Assistant to bring in all of my information from my old Powerbook running Tiger. Once that was done I had two accounts: my old admin account (with all of my settings) and my new admin account (the default). I deleted the new admin account because I had no intent to use it any longer, and planned to continue using the old one.
But since then, I have been having some permissions issues. Pretty much all of my files are Read Only, so I have to set the permissions on them one-by-one as I need to write them. This also prevented me from doing the 10.5.2 update in Software Update (I was able to get it manually from apple.com.
I need to know if there's any way to fix this. I tried restoring from the discs, but that didn't affect anything. I've tried repairing permissions, and while that may have helped with some system folders, it doesn't help with the rest of the hundreds of files that I'm sure I'll need to "unlock" in the future.
    Please help!

Repairing permissions won't fix this. Repair permissions can only work on system files and other files which have a bill of materials (BOM) receipt in /Library/Receipts.
You need to change the ownership of the files. This is very easy to do with terminal if you know what you're doing:
    sudo chown -R username:staff
where username is your short username (e.g. mine is blloyd).

  • SQL Server database (read-only mode) in Oracle SQL Developer

    Hello,
I connected SQL server database with Oracle SQL Developer 3.2.10.09, everything looks good except i can only browse data, i cannot change data in tables cannot insert new or delete rows. Query is also disabled (i got message: Query Builder is not supported for this connection type.) I used Third Party JDBC Drivers - jtds-1.2.6.jar as my connection to SQL server. Is there a way to change data in tables?
    Thank you.

AFAIK editing table data in the grid is only possible with an Oracle database. On MS SQL you'll have to use update statements in the worksheet.
    Hope that helps,

Is there any possibility to set linksys E4200 for support anonymous acces to ftp server in read and write mode ?

  • Address Book server -- any way to make an account "read-only"?

So, they'd like to incorporate Address Book Server here to work as a "group" address book.
But they only want to give certain people read-write access to the group book and read-only address to others.
As far as I know, there's no way to do this (like you could with an iCal "delegate" for comparison.)
But I was thinking -- is there some way to just set an AB Server account read-only in general?
If so, I was thinking I could set up two AB Server accounts -- the "read-write" account for some users and then script/sync the values in that account nightly to a "read-only" account.
But I can't figure out if there's a way to marke an AB server account read-only to begin with.
    Any suggestions along these lines?
    Thanks!

I'd imagine this is a question that only Apple can answer, as it would require some "behind the scenes" tinkering with Terminal etc., if it were at all possible.
Its definitely something they should think about including in a future release, as there seem to be quite a few people here who want a shared calendar, plus therefore the ability to pick who can EDIT vs. just read the info on it.
    Cheers!
    Steve

  • DFSR Read-Only - Problems with Disaster Recovery?

    Hi guys,
I have (2) 2008 R2 file servers.  One is production and one is for DR.  First, I have to make sure that the DR server never writes back to production in any situation.  The means that if the (2) servers stop communicating with each other
and data is deleted off the production server, the read-only DR server does not put deleted files back onto the production server when connection is restored, etc.  It sounds like I am covered there.
The question is what happens if production server crashes and I now want to change the DR server to production?  Does the data on the D/R member still have the same NTFS permissions?  It sounds like it does, but would I then just go into dfsmgmt.msc
and mark the replicated folder as read-write, force AD replication, run a dfsrdiag pollad, and then redirect the users to the DR server?  I know the content may not be 100%, but the back-up plan has always been to disablestrictnamechecking, change
the host record for the production server to the IP address of the DR server, and redirect users there for 99% of the data.  I think that files that were open on the production server that crashed would not have had their updates replicated across.
Let me know if that would work from the DFS side of things
    Dan Heim

    Hi Dan,
I think this article provided an answer to your question:
    Read-Only Replication in R2
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2010/03/08/read-only-replication-in-r2.aspx
An RW replicated folder can be converted to an RO replicated folder (and back) “on the fly”.
Converting will cause a non-authoritative sync to occur on the replicated folder for the server being altered.

  • How to ensure read only transaction mode

I am using Oracle73 driver version 2.00.03.01 against Oracle
    7.3.4.5.
    2 Questions:
    1) I am using Microsoft Access 97 to attach to Oracle tables
via the aforementioned ODBC driver. Is there a way to ensure
that queries using these attached tables run on the Oracle
server in read only mode (equivalent to "set transaction read
only")? The solution cannot be using pass-through queries or
    VBA code.
    2) Where can I find a reference for all valid ODBC.INI entries
    for this driver?
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

If you are able to upgrade the clients to use the Oracle 8
    driver, there's a check-box to set a DSN as read-only.
Unfortunately, I have no idea whether this option was available
in the old driver you're using.

  • LSMW project read only keep last content for wildcard

    Hi Gurus,
when I use the wildcard option to run a LSMW project . The result is the system list all the data summaries about each file covered by the wildcards.  I m used to find the data of all the covered files in the read-file  after . When I started the report today only the data of the last file are listed in the file  and the data out of the other files  are deleted.
Anyody a suggestion how to make sure that  all data of all files are listed in the read-file?

    Hi Navin,
You can try setting appropriate permissions(read only) for the particular user under System Administration - > Permissions.
By this , even if the user is allowed to view the content, he shouldnt be able to modify it.
    hope this helps.

    venkat.
