FTP upload on a web App

Hi people, I am creating a web application which on one part need the user to upload an image. Rigth now iam testin the site on a free web host and so it just let me upload files using FTP, the problem is that i cant find the way to upload the image, i already know how to upload files to FTP with flex but that was using the "File" class which you can only use on an AIR application, how could i achieve the same result from a web application?
Thanks

Not too sure about pagination and filtering/sorting.  You might have to hack that together with some javascript and/or ajax.
Here's my advice on the last two...
The owner of their record in the web app needs to be able to edit only their own listing.
This is the default functionality of customer submitted web app items in a secure zone.  They can only edit their own web app items.  Make sure the {tag_edit} tag is included in your web app item list view and if that list view is rendered in the Secure Zone while the user is logged in, the owner of that web app item will see the EDIT link to edit their web app item.
but can only be shown if that user selects the radio button field to allow us to publish their email address.
While I advise against showing an email address in plain text on the web, if you are ONLY including this web app in a secure zone then this could be ok.  Having a plain text email address in publick html markup is a no-no.  Spambots will grab it and start spamming you.
But if you do intend to do this only in the secure zone and the logged in users are trusted you can probably just:
Include a field name in your web app form called "showemail" and use the checkbox data type.
Include a blank field that you hide in your form called "owneremail" and use the string datatypeHide it like so by manually editing the form markup: <input type="hidden" id="owneremail" name="CAT...." />
Use some javascript so that when someone sets the checkbox for "show email address" it fills in this hidden field.  If the form is in a securezone you can just use {module_emailaddress} in your actual javascript code on that page to output the user's email address and fill the #owneremail input with that value.
Someone else might have more information about pagination.  I forget if pagination is built into web app lists.

  • Automatic image compression for photo gallery web apps?

Is it possible to scale and compress images to a maximum size when uploading to a web app? This is for a photo gallery that allows public submissions, and we are anticipating that we will get lots of photos that are very large. This is a task that would be best handled by a server-side image processing lib, but is there another way since we don't have that on BC?
    Thanks!

I understand that you are probably concerned with data storage limits when asking this question. But, you can create thumbnails when displaying images within the photo gallery. This will allow a very large image to display very quickly within the gallery.

  • How to FTP an elaborate template into a BC web app making use of dreamweaver cc?

I need to provide my web app creation in Business catalyst with a better template through 'FTP' which is possible with dreamweaver CS6 as it is integrated with BC, But I have the creative cloud version'DREAMWEAVER CC' Is there a plug-inn? or should I venture to another FTP route to upload more elaborate templates to my BC web app? I'm creating this BC site purely as a database which I would plant into a site.
I have done the cs6 trial period before I opt into the creative cloud, so that option is out of the window. DREAMWEAVER CC as part of the cloud just as BC should really be connected even more so than cs6! What can I do?
    Thank you in advance

  • How to Upload Web App images to different server?

    Hello,
is it possible to configure web app item submission so images are uploaded to a different server (not BC)?
Customers are uploading lots of images with their web app items and I'm really getting short on server storage. Buying extra space in BC servers is a bit expensive, especially when I need loads of it. Smart thing would be to AUTO resize images to take much less space in the server but this is not possible with BC as no back end is allowed (maybe this could good improvement in next releases? "Auto resizing images to the value indicated"). Some customers are uploading images of up to 9 MB size X 20. I could limit upload size (i guess), but thats a big hit to UX, they should then bother resizing their images on some software before uploading.
So far my solution is to simply download images from the server, resize them manually with PS and then upload them back again. Maybe someone knows better solution than photoshop to automate the resizing process? I actually can automate the process with PS but image names changes and this is another problem. So a program to auto resize loads of images and keep their original names?
Another solution could be manually storing images to another server and retyping the links in web app items, but its a bit too crazy
    Thanks

    Hi Ray,
Indeed, this is not possible as an 'out of the box' feature and looks like a long-shot if attempting to use a separate server for storage.

  • How do I add image upload to web app edit template?

How do I add image upload to web app edit template. When creating fields I am selecting image from the field type. But the only way to upload and image is when I create the web app item within the admin. The option to upload an image is not available when the user submit web form opens.
Wont send any of these questions through this email anymore but really needed assistance.

On the Details tab of the Web App setup, under Web App Item Options; have you ticked "Allow File Upload" and specified a Default Upload Folder?

  • Uploading values for an image field in a web app. Nothing displays in layout.

I've uploaded the values (using the import) for a field defined as an image in a web app. When I try to display the field, nothing shows up. The value correctly shows up when I look at Web App items after the upload / import. I've uploaded the same value in a text field, just to learn what was happening, and the text field displays the image just fine when added to the layout.
I would like to use the image field type, as it's easier to correctly create the link when the web app is updated in the future.
    Here is what works in the layout: <a href="{tag_link to page}"> <img alt="" class="column66_award_thumb" id="thx" src="{tag_image thumb}" /></a>
Note that {tag_image thumb} is a text field with the link stored in it. The value for each Web App Item which populates this field is a link to the image. (i.e. /Awards/139.jpg)
Here is what I want to work: <a href="{tag_link to page}"> <img alt="" class="column66_award_thumb" id="thx" src="{tag_thumbnail image_value}" /></a>  , where {tag_thumbnail image_value} refers to a field defined as an image in the web app. It has the exact same value as {tag_image thumb}. I just copied the field values in the Excel spreadsheet (saved as .csv) when I uploaded it.
It looks like the image field works fine only when I manually create it in the web app. If this is the case, using the upload capability disables any ability to use the image field type.
Is there a workaround for this? Am I missing something?
The page I'm working on is http://www.e-a-a.com/awards  When you view the source, you can see that the small thumbnail images are displaying just fine. (I'm using the text field). Whenever I substitute the image field name {tag_thumbnail image}, {tag_thumbnail image_nolink}, or {tag_thumbnail image_value}, the src value is always null.
    How do I fix?

    Hi there,
To do it properly you need to resize the image. Prefably before you put it into BC. While you can for scale the image in CSS you do not want to do this. Why? Because the images are still very big and likely not optimised as they should be for the web.
This means the page with these images will take a very long time to load for people, and people wont be to happy about that viewing your site.
You need to use software such as photoshop if you have it or iphoto on a mac for example to edit, crop and size images before you upload them. If you do not have anything you can use free web based tools such as this one:
    http://pixlr.com/editor/
You can also do this within BC itself in the file manager. If you click the image you can see options to resize it. The downside of that is that is done by pure math. It does not know what is in the photo and the results can make the image look squished etc.

  • Web App name tag capabilities and Upload response handling

    Hi Guys,
Let me begin by apologising for how long-winded this is going to be.
I have set my products up in the ecommerce module utilising catalogues etc - I have removed the buy now and cart options, so the ecommerce module is operating essentially like a showroom.  What I want to do now is link the individual large products to a web app because my product range requires personalization and the customers need to give me information and assetts to get their finished product back - the key for me is getting reports from the system, the web apps are just a portal to those reports.  So the workflow would see them submit their text and assetts to be used in the final product and pay via the web app.  With the web app that takes payment and allows them to submit their personalization stuff I was going to make one per product, so if product a) requires them to submit one block of text and 2 photos, the web app would have corresponding fields.  Then I got thinking about using content holders, the one web app for all products that need one block of text and 2 photos, if I could get the name tag to populate with the product page that sends to it, or the page name the web app form is inserted on, because this will correspond to the large product.  This way when I do the reporting instead of having to report from heaps of web apps, I could just filter the reports by the product name.  It would mean I would only need a handful of web apps vs needing quite a lot, but if it is beyond me I am happy that I have a solution, even if it is a bloated one.
The other part of this involves me needing to capture the uploaded file name in the web app form fields so I can report from them.  I have been looking around and came across the below code.  My web app will require 1-12 uploaded file names to be captured in 1-12 form fields i.e. img_1 - img_12 - I am not a coder but I wondered whether this had potential for what I need.  It comes from here http://www.openjs.com/articles/ajax/ajax_file_upload/response_data.php
Thanks in advance for taking the time to digest all of this.

    A Sample Application
For example, say you are building a photo gallery. When a user uploads an image(using the above mentioned ajax method), you want to get its name and file size from the server side. First, lets create the Javascript uploading script(for explanation on this part, see the Ajax File Upload article)...
    The Code
    <script type="text/javascript"> function init() { document.getElementById("file_upload_form").onsubmit=function() { document.getElementById("file_upload_form").target = "upload_target"; } } </script>  <form id="file_upload_form" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="upload.php"> <input name="file" id="file" size="27" type="file" /><br /> <input type="submit" name="action" value="Upload Image" /><br /> <iframe id="upload_target" name="upload_target" src="" style="width:100px;height:100px;border:1px solid #ccc;"></iframe> </form> <div id="image_details"></div>
And the server side(PHP in this case) script will look something like this...
    <?php list($name,$result) = upload('file','image_uploads','jpg,jpeg,gif,png'); if($name) { // Upload Successful $details = stat("image_uploads/$name"); $size = $details['size'] / 1024; print json_encode(array( "success"     =>     $result, "failure"     =>     false, "file_name"     =>     $name,     // Name of the file - JS should get this value "size"          =>     $size     // Size of the file - JS should get this as well. )); } else { // Upload failed for some reason. print json_encode(array( "success"     =>     false, "failure"     =>     $result, )); }
Here we are printing the data that should be given to JS directly into the iframe. Javascript can access this data by accessing the iframe's DOM. Lets add that part to the JS code...
    function init() { document.getElementById("file_upload_form").onsubmit=function() { document.getElementById("file_upload_form").target = "upload_target"; document.getElementById("upload_target").onload = uploadDone; //This function should be called when the iframe has compleated loading // That will happen when the file is completely uploaded and the server has returned the data we need. } }  function uploadDone() { //Function will be called when iframe is loaded var ret = frames['upload_target'].document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].innerHTML; var data = eval("("+ret+")"); //Parse JSON // Read the below explanations before passing judgment on me  if(data.success) { //This part happens when the image gets uploaded. document.getElementById("image_details").innerHTML = "<img src='image_uploads/" + data.file_name + "' /><br />Size: " + data.size + " KB"; } else if(data.failure) { //Upload failed - show user the reason. alert("Upload Failed: " + data.failure); } }
    Explanation
Lets see whats happening here - a play by play commentary...
    document.getElementById("upload_target").onload = uploadDone;
Set an event handler that will be called when the iframe has compleated loading. That will happen when the file is completely uploaded and the server has returned the data we need. Now lets see the function uploadDone().
    var ret = frames['upload_target'].document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].innerHTML; var data = eval("("+ret+")");
These two lines are an eyesore. No - it goes beyond 'eyesore' - this is an abomination. If these lines causes you to gouge out your eyes and run for the hills, I can understand completely. I had to wash my hands after writing those lines. Twice.
    var ret = frames['upload_target'].document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].innerHTML;
This will get the data the server side script put in the iframe. This line cannot be avoided as far as I know. You can write it in different ways - but in the end, you will have to take the innerHTML or the nodeValue or something of the body element of the iframe. I used the smallest code in the sample. Even if you specify the Content type of the iframe page as text/plain, the browser will 'domify' it.
One other thing - in frames['upload_target'] the 'upload_target' is the name of the iframe - not the ID. Its a gotcha you need to be aware of.
    var data = eval("("+ret+")");
Thankfully, this line can be avoided - you can use some other format(in this particular case the best format might be plain HTML) so that you don't have to parse a string that comes out of innerHTML. Or you can use CSV. Or plain text. Or JSON as we are doing right now - just parse it without using eval(). Reason I choose it? Smallest code - and easier to understand.
Now we have a working system. The files are uploaded and data reaches the client side. Everything works perfectly. Oh, how I wish I could say that. But nooo - the nightmare of every javascript developer rears its ugly head again...
    Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer, also known as IE, also known as the Beast, again manages to mess things up. They don't support the onload event for iframe. So the code...
    document.getElementById("upload_target").onload = uploadDone;
will not work. WILL. NOT. WORK. Thanks IE, thanks very much.
So, what do we do? We use a small hack. We put a script tag inside the iframe with a onload event that calls the uploadDone() of the top frame. So now the server side script looks like this...
    <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function init() { if(top.uploadDone) top.uploadDone(); //top means parent frame. } window.onload=init; </script> <body> <?php list($name,$result) = upload('file','image_uploads','jpg,jpeg,gif,png'); if($name) { // Upload Successful // Put the PHP content from the last code sample here here } ?> </body> </html>
Okay - now we have a IE-proof working system. Upload an image using the below demo application to see it in action.
If you have a better way of doing this, please, PLEASE let me know. I feel dirty doing it this way.
    See it in Action

You also need to consider when someone removes a product and what happens in terms of the things uploaded.
Not saying your way wont work but I have the structure for this basically very similar on sites already that covers all the basis of real world use and works well.
Mine is future proof anyway. BC will never ( I have it in writing) replace the code because it will break implementations and sites directly. jquery version is on the cards but the way that will be implemented or any change will either be with notice and on new sites not old or like many features an option in the admin to change it.

  • General question about uploading web apps

i have my site completed and it works on the testing server
without a glitch. i've uploaded static sites before without a
hitch, but i'm not so certain about web apps. seems when you upload
the site with dw, it uploads the html and php . . . but then there
are the tables from the db. uploading them and getting them to hook
up all over again . . . how do you do that? can someone review the
    steps please. thanks.

    something like this:
    1. check your remote server has phpMyAdmin installed and the
    URL to
access it (phpMyAdmin is a web app written in PHP and you
    access it
    through a browser)
    2. download and install phpMyAdmin locally
    3. run phpMyAdmin, usually
    http://localhost/phpMyAdmin,
    but the url will
vary depending the installation and your development
    platform.
export your local DB; phpMyAdmin will create a file named by
    default
"localhost.sql". depending your browser configuratioon you
    can change
the file name/choose where to save
    4. run phpMyAdmin in the remote server and import your DB
    just choosing
    the file in step 3
later you can export/import tables instead the full DB. if
    you're
reimporting the DB remember to check the "Add DROP DATABASE"
    checkbox
    when exporting
you can't see any files in the server with phpMyAdmin, it's
    only a
visual interface to the MySQL server. keep using DW to
create/modify/upload html, js and php files

  • Using WEB Output HTML Gallery and uploading using ftp upload the HTML page views correctly but images only display the alt tag?

Using WEB Output HTML Gallery and uploading using ftp upload the HTML page views correctly but images only display the alt tag in the browser window?

After a little investigation, I discovered that PNGs also do not render correctly in IE7 in similar circumstances.
I ended up using Levels in Photoshop to bring the output blacks up to "5", saved the images as PNGs, modified the HTML from .jpg to .png, and that seems to have covered up the problem well enough.
By the way, I did confirm that IE8 beta 2 renders the images correctly.

  • Automatic upload a web app

    Hello
Is there a way to automatically upload web apps to external websites?
My client is a boat broker and needs his staff to upload boats to their system and then they are automatically uploaded on trade boating websites. Similar setup to a real estate website.
I was thinking of his staff listing web app items and having them displayed on the site. I know you can export webapp items however this needs to be done automatically instead of a manual export.
    Thank you in advance
    Val

I can't think of a way that you'd be able to do this.  Because you are relying on an external service there are going to be roadblocks-- typically you need to be logged in to your external website to upload new items to it and since BC is a propietary service and we don't have access to server side scripting then the main way you do things is through javascript and since javascript is run on the client side, not server side you should never pass private data like security credentials or API keys in the clear via javascript which you'd usually need to do to login to an external site or API to list your boats.
Even if your external site/service has an API it will still be hard because BC doesn't have an API to deal with web apps or web app items.  Their API deals with the CRM and eCommerce so even if your 3rd party service has an API and you wanted to setup a PHP or similar solution on a subdomain to connect to their API and send new web app items over you wouldn't be able to do it because BC's API doesn't work for web app items.
Your best bet is to either have them manually add the new boats to both BC and the 3rd party site at the same time or export your web app items to a CSV file on BC and they can use that CSV file to add boats to the 3rd party site without having to go back and forth on their website-- they can use the CSV to get all the data.

  • Web apps and content holders after upload

I purchased the uguru photography template from business catalyst into which I have inserted my own content worked on in dreamweaver and tested on my trail site. I transfered the whole of the new version successfully to my live site at http://www.misskikisalon.co.uk/. Have checked all files and everything is successfully there. The problem is that none of the web apps and content holders are now working and the interface tells me there are no web apps on the site although all the files have uploaded. The html pages say 'No Items Found' where the web apps should be working and the content holders should be - on product pages it says no product found or item out of stock. Please can you help?
Also on the trial site interface under site manager there are 12 items and under web apps all the associated web apps for the template whereas in my live site in site manager there are 2 items listed under site manager - web forms and system emails and no apps - why the difference?

I purchased the template which places it in the trial site worked on it locally using dreamweaver and then sftp site from dreamweaver to live site.
How can I then use the template from the trial site and the version I have developed in dreamweaver and make this live on my live site. I want my currently live site to use this template and all the development I work since purchasing the template.

  • Possible to show file upload progress for web form submission?

I just made a simple form as a test. There are 3 files being submitted here via a "web form".
Files being uploaded in this case are of these sizes:
    110MB
    9MB
    24MB
I'm testing functionality that will let a print shop's clients upload their files. For larger files they'll use FTP but this "order form" does a lot of business for them so we're trying to replicate in BC.
My problem is that I am wondering if there is a way to show the "upload progress" as a total %. Such as a visual status bar, etc.
As of now the only way it's showing is in the default browser status bar (chrome in this case):
    http://cl.ly/image/1d3U0S1h2521
I read somewhere that the limit is 150MB for an upload. Wondering if that means 150MB TOTAL as in 3 files combined in my case. Or If I chose to allow 3 files to be attached would it allow for 450MB?
Also, if you do a user submitted web app instead and allow people to attach files that way, does the same file limit apply?
My second issue is that the upload speed seems to be SLOW. I know it's not my connection because on my non BC site as well as another with the same form, the files upload fairly fast. But on BC it just crawls and on a few tests I get this:
    http://cl.ly/image/2T2q160M1R1n
Any help or suggestions with the file upload progress as well as file upload speed would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

So if i have 3 files to be uploaded, the max allowed is 750MB correct? (just wondering if when uploading its 250mb total or per file).
Guess i'll do something fake to make it appear its working with a loading graphic or something.
My web browser (chrome in this case) shows the % uploaded. I wonder if all web browsers do the same. I havent tested yet.
If only there were a way to have javascript or something grab that same #% from the web browser itself and just format it to appear where I want on the form along with the % uploading.
    Anyone know if that's possible?
Here's where Chrome for mac shows it:
    http://cl.ly/image/1c3i3x25262j
If I could grab that (uploading 19%) from the browser and format it into css/html i'd be gold.
Then find if similar browsers do the same and write some js for each browser specifically to grab it.
In a perfect world at least....

  • Fired up my first Azure Website to host some virtual tours... ftp uploading and page loads super slow.

I upgraded my plan to BASIC... any idea why FTP upload are so slow?  When I go to my pages, they are loading slowly too.

    Hi,
First, please have a look at this article to see how to use FTP in azure:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaushal/archive/2014/08/02/microsoft-azure-web-site-connect-to-your-site-via-ftp-and-upload-download-files.aspx, based on your description, the pages loading slowly, this issue only occur in your first time to loading? If yes, I
think it is normal, If you mean the initial request takes long and then any subsequent requests are fast, then that would be because you are hitting .NET apps cold start. Many .NET apps are slow to JIT and load all their .NET requirements, but once everything
is loaded, they are fast. If I misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

  • UPLOADING FILES ONTO WEB SPACE

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO UPLOAD THE JAVA APPLICATIONS ONTO WEB SPACE CAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND .......DO YOU FTP OR ANOTHER WAY OF DOING IT..................

    Hi,
Firstly you should know what kind of WebServer you're trying to upload. If it can support Java the preferable way would be packging your App into an WebApp(a .war) archive and upload the archive. Most of the commercial server recoginize Web Apps. First try putting your app on a Tomcat or the J2EE server(that comes with J2EE SDK).
The Process of uploading is simple as the Web Space provide will give a FTP access to the Space.
    Hope this helps.
    Note:
I think you've cross posted your topic !

  • How do I use the alternate list template when rendering web app items to a page?

I need to have the ability to use the main list template on particular pages, but then use different markup for other pages - is there a way that I can specify the alternate list template within the module tag?

Hi Matt, You should read about web apps here:

    And module reference here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/kb/modules-quick-reference.html
If you insert through the admin and click customise you will see the option to use listbackup. You will also see that layout availible via FTP and in the admin or DW.
Here you can see where in the module paramaters the option to choose listbackup occurs:
